Cupcakes are probably one of the prettiest desserts out there. They're a nice pop of color, cute, and look absolutely delicious. I've already established that Sift makes the best cupcakes in HK, but I passed by Twelve Cupcakes at Windsor House the other day and the pretty displays of the cupcakes arranged in their delicate rows were just too cute to pass up.
I ended up dragging my mother, who generally despises all things sweet, into the store to pick out a cupcake. They had all the typical cupcake flavors - red velvet, Oreo, peanut butter chocolate etc. After some heavy consideration, I decided to go with the classic cupcake flavor - red velvet.
For some reason, I find the cupcakes here not as... attractive as others I've seen. I think it's the way the frosting is piled up in the middle of the cupcake rather than being more spread out and filling the entire top if the cupcake. I don't know, but as they say, don't judge a book by its cover! And I'm glad I didn't - because the cupcake was pretty good. The frosting was smooth and creamy, and the cupcake itself was very light and not too dense. However, I found the frosting a little too sweet.
With mid-autumn festival coming up, Twelve Cupcakes is joining in on the celebrations by having special moon cake cupcakes. I actually just saw them online, but I'm going to make it a point to try one before the festival ends! read more
