As an acupuncture newbie, I was a little bit nervous about my first appointment. After being sick for an entire month and a recent car accident, I was willing to set aside the trepidation to get better by any means necessary.
The initial consultation is very laid-back. Jennifer asks a few questions, finds out the top issues, and explains about what to expect from the procedure.
My session started with cupping, which was so relaxing and a great way to ease me into needles. I'd never heard of it, but it is essentially some oil, a cup where the air is vacuumed out via fire and placed on the area being treated. The cup gets moved around. It felt kind of like a massage. There is soothing music, the room is dim, and I was already putty.
Next come needles! Eeek! I really had nothing to worry about. I barely felt them, aside from a good feeling. It is really hard to explain, but it is almost like you can feel the energy in the areas that are being treated.
Then there is a waiting period-- about 20-30 minutes of dark relaxation with the needles still in. I know I fell asleep.
When Jennifer came back in, the removal was quick and I felt so good. Energized and my back and neck felt wonderful. I haven't had a headache since, which is a big deal for me right now.
I most certainly will be back. read more
