When I was little I always felt intimidated by dance schools because of the lights, large studio, and lack of colorful decor or designs! When I first stepped into Tutu School Pleasanton I instantly knew my daughter would feel comfortable, safe, and excited! The color scheme of the studio is a warm yet bright pastel, the pretty tutu dresses on the walls make my daughter feel pretty in her own tutu dress, the size of the studio isn't overly open to where my daughter would feel nervous or scared to dance, everything about the design of the studio and shop is so inviting! My daughter will be dancing with tutu school for almost a year now, and not once did any of the teachers disappoint! They are friendly, beautifully unique, and talented! When I did become a mom to a little girl, we started tutu toddler classes together at age 2 and it was everything I hoped it would be. She loved it and it was fun to dance together mother and daughter. She is now 3 and continues to love her weekly class with Miss Michelle. She enjoys dressing up in her tutus and playing the little dancing games in class. Her teacher is so sweet and patient, even when my daughter gets distracted. They have performances you can choose to attend which is so funny and cute. Communication with the school is good. The school itself is very clean and organized; The lobby has fun merchandise to buy your littles; The teachers are super friendly yet keep the class structured. While I've enjoyed all the teachers my child's favorite by far is Miss Lindsey. She always greets the kids with great big smiles and is full of enthusiasm. This is a great school. Low pressure, age appropriate instruction, and very patient and kind teachers. My kid was not a good fit. She got bored, didn't listen, was generally obnoxious and the teachers never lost patience with her. I felt she was disruptive, and it was torture to sit there and watch her act nutty, so we stopped going. Had she been able to behave herself we would have stayed. Swimming and soccer are just better fits for her. The only cons are parking can be tight so leave some time for it, and I wish there wasn't all the cute stuff for kids to beg us to buy as soon as you walk in. It's the equivalent of the candy at eye level in the check out line at the grocery store. Great teachers, nice studio, Shelly was easy to communicate with. I recommend it for kids who like music, dance and have better attention than my daughter. read more

We've been going to the Tutu school for close to two years now, and my 3.5 year old daughter loves it, as do I. She looks forward to the classes every week and loves practicing her moves at home. As a parent, I appreciate the patience and attentiveness of the teachers (special shout out to Miss Mackenzie in Livermore and Miss Dani in Willow Glen), as well as the age-appropriate way that rules are taught (using our watching eyes on the teacher and respecting our friends' ballet bubbles). I also appreciate their super flexible make-up policy and the fact that every studio I have visited has been immaculately clean (bathrooms included) and nicely decorated. The reason I wasn't a fan of this place was Bc of some slight racism I felt coming from a few parents and the new teacher that took Ms.Sarah's place. It has really opened her up to learning not just dance but also colors, animals and emotions. All the teachers their have so much patience and love for teaching the kids. Shelly the owner has thought of everything to make this space inviting and set the mood for children to DANCE! Miss Tiffany is a wonderful, patient instructor... taking time with each child to instruct in a positive, encouraging, FUN way. The Tutu School curriculum is something more dance schools for younger children should look to - every element is designed to instill a lifelong love of ballet. Not every student is destined to become a prima ballerina, but a love and knowledge of ballet can provide a lifetime of enrichment. Tutu School makes it fun to learn! Each lesson they have a short story time based around one of the classic ballets and then incorporate an exercise based on the story to get kids involved. There is creative movement with props like scarves and magic wands, and all the while they are learning key French terms and intro ballet moves. Our daughter is in heaven when she's in class and talks about it all week. My husband and I agree that it was one of the best things we've ever done with our daughter. When it came time to celebrate our daughter's 2nd birthday, we were delighted to find Tutu School for both her party and weekly ballet lessons. Our daughter loves her Tutu Toddler's class with Teacher Tiffany, and her self confidence and knowledge of ballet basics have grown each class. The other little students enjoy learning with one another and they open each class with the ballet secret, "I love ballet!" Teacher Tiffany uses references that the children can understand to teach them positioning of their feet, stretching, bending of knees, walking on tip-toe, etc. and even a little French! The studio is beautifully appointed in white, pink & lavender. It is clean and inviting with little cubbies for shoes and personal items. The dance area is separated from the sitting room for family & friends by a whimsical white picket fence gate. Forms of ballerina tutus and feathered costumes are painted by hand and line the walls with joy. For the party, Teacher Jessica led our little friends through a crown-making activity, a ballet class, story time, and distributed gorgeous cupcakes and pink lemonade. She was sweet and treated the birthday girl and her friends as guests. From the first email exchange with the studio's owner, Shelly, to meeting and seeing her at the studio, Shelly has been supportive and friendly.
