My fiance (now husband) and I were interested in dance lessons for our wedding - we went in for our first complimentary lesson, and to be honest, I wouldn't really call it a lesson. It's more of a get-to-know-you session. Regardless, we signed up for a 10 class package - not cheap, but nothing is these days. And it was really important for both of us to feel comfortable dancing together before our wedding. Melissandra was our instructor, and we both really liked her energy. She and Joey, the manager, both seemed to genuinely care if we were happy with our lessons and the routine that we were working on. By the time we had completed our lessons, we knew most of the staff, and it was like seeing friends each time we went in. Anyway, fast forward to wedding day, and our first dance was a huge hit with our guests! We both felt nervous, even though we had practiced it countless times. We did a quick run through during cocktail hour while our guests were still outside, and as soon as it was over, we high fived and danced the night away with our guests...exactly as it should have been! My only complaint would be that we often felt a little pressured by the front desk - if we couldn't schedule our next lesson right away, we got asked on multiple occasions "why not?" and "well, can you move that?"...honestly that was the biggest turn off. My husband's work schedule is super unpredictable, and he just felt very defensive when that happened - I think I was sensitive to it because he was already doing something that I know he wasn't a huge fan of. We've been offered the opportunity to return, and I think we would both like to at some point in the future. But right now, we are on the post-wedding budget, which will not allow for expensive dance lessons. I think that Arthur Murray is a great place to try something new and have a lot of fun doing it!

Thank you Christian for making our first dance special

We showed up here to take couple of classes for our wedding and we ended up having so much fun. Our instructor Christian was amazing. This is was our very first time going to a dance classes together and they put together a complete dance routine for us in a short time and it came out great. Thank You Christian.

I have had a fantastic experience learning to dance at Arthur Murray. I have gained poise, confidence, and skill in all the basic dances and then some. The teachers are so easy to learn from, and make each lesson a fun experience. I have really enjoyed the social atmosphere as well, the other students are low-key, encouraging, and enthusiastic. I have attended group lessons, parties, many private lessons, district showcase events and participated in a group formation routine. Each of these elements play a different part in my developing skill as a dancer, and each has been fun, challenging, and fulfilling to me. I am so glad I found this studio and that this is all available to me here in Livermore. Bravo!

My husband and myself took several lessons from Brigette at the Livermore Arthur Murray for a choreographed first dance at our wedding. The lessons were a little pricey but Brigette was very patient with us and made sure we had a beautiful dance and we had it down. I would recommend this place! I loved how our dance turned out.

In May of this year, I called to sign my fiance (now husband) Mike and myself up for our free first lesson. My husband was not happy that I signed us up and grunted "like we have time for this", but with lessons until 9:15 PM, we were able to fit it into our schedule even with our ridiculous Bay Area commutes. We showed up to our first free lesson with Ron and were doing multiple types of dances by the end of those 45 min. With our wedding a little over a month, we signed up for the 5 lesson wedding package. The package is not cheap, but Arthur Murray is a really solid dance studio so we decided to give it a chance. On our first lesson, we gave Ron our wedding song and by our second lesson, he had fully choreographed a first dance rumba routine for us. When we completed our wedding dance package, we signed on to monthly 10-class packages to continue our lessons before and after our wedding. We were living in Dublin, CA at the time, but got married outside my hometown of Portland, OR so we did not have a chance to practice in our wedding shoes until 2 nights before our wedding. We ran through our routine in my parents' front yard where I used to play as a kid, and that is a wonderful memory I have no pictures of, but that which I hope never to forget. On our wedding day, we were excited to show off our moves! Only a handful of friends and my mom knew we had taken lessons. Mike's parents had no clue and his mom was blown away. I was so excited that our first dance was a huge hit and was more than just swaying. I have been dancing my whole life and I really did not want a middle school dance first dance. Mike thoroughly enjoyed our wedding dance lessons and we continued dance lessons until we moved to Connecticut in early October of this year. Over the course of our 5 months at Arthur Murray, we received lessons with Ron and Melisandra. Both are outstanding. Ron and Melisandra choreographed a second demo dance for us and Melisandra choreographed a wonderful Merengue/Salsa/Bachata demo that we were able to perform on our final day at Arthur Murray. In addition to ballroom and latin style dancing, the instructors of Arthur Murray sometimes put together different formations that you can sign up for as well. These can be different styles of dancing. I was part of a hip hop formation lead by Cimone September-October and it was also a lot of fun. Since we have moved to Connecticut, we have not gotten back into dancing and we both miss it very much. We are hoping to see if we can fit it back in once our lives have settled down and we have settled into some sort of routine. A hesitation prospective students may have about Arthur Murray is the cost. It is certainly a very expensive dance studio, but it is worth every penny. As mentioned above, I have been dancing most of my life, but this was the first professional dance studio I had attended. You do not learn one or even two styles of dance. They have a very extensive repertoire of ballroom and latin dance styles and you will learn them all. When building your program, you can indicate which styles you are most interested in learning as well as how proficient you would like to be (for Mike, he wanted to learn to be able to identify the dance style for every song and for me, I wanted to look like a pro on Dancing with the Stars... one was more reasonable than the other). When we walked into Arthur Murray in May, Mike had never really danced before and I knew some waltz, swing, and some hip hop as well as having grown up doing loads Scandinavian folk dancing. When we left on October 13, 2017, we had learned at least the basics for waltz, rumba, tango, foxtrot, east coast swing, salsa, hustle, some argentine tango, bachata, some samba, and merengue. At our last lesson, we tested out of rumba, foxtrot, and east coast swing (graduated from Bronze I to Bronze II for those!). The studio quickly makes you feel like family. Everyone learns your name, welcomes you when you arrive and leave, and are happy to show you the basics or play around with more complicated moves during the group parties. Leaving the Livermore Arthur Murray was as hard as leaving all of our friends because even though we'd only been going there for 5 months, all of the instructors felt like really good friends. I docked Arthur Murray one star because as wonderful as everyone at the studio is, they can be very pushy about getting you to use (and thus need to buy) lots of lessons. I received many phone calls from different members of the Livermore Arthur Murray team to tell me that a slot had opened in so-and-sos schedule on such-and-such day and they wanted to give Mike and me the opportunity to snag that spot before someone else did. We already had a lesson scheduled, so this would either be trying to get us to double up on lessons that day or do private lessons multiple days a week. Over time, these requests weaned, so they do learn what you can manage.

This is the 'price list' I was given. Handwritten and questionable math.

My daughter performed with the company from 2018-2021 at the Fremont and Livermore studios. The issues and problems that we ran into are still spilling over to my daughter's dancing. The teacher turnover is RIDICULOUS. Teachers come and go so often there, and it throws the dancers off. During the 2020-2021 competition season, in one month, we went through 3, yes THREE teachers. There is absolutely no consistency. There is absolutely no technique taught there. TDA spits our choreography and does not teach terminology, proper turnout, etc, etc, ETC!!!!! It's all recycled routines year, after year, after year. There is no originality whatsoever. My daughter went to dance competitions and conventions and she was lost when it came to basic terminology, and basic steps. We spent thousands of dollars with them, and looking back; what a waste! Miss Tiffany does not care at all. We mostly danced at Fremont, and I never, ever once saw her visit the studio. We danced at one competition and when Fremont studio was up, she walked out. Yes, she walked out and didn't watch our girls dance. We danced with her for years, and she wouldn't be able to pick my kid out of a lineup. Ms. Robbie who is the TDA Company director is great. I actually really, really like her and think she is fabulous. She was always really kind, fair, and accommodating for me and my daughter. Looking back, on our experiences there, we are blessed that we met such amazing girls. My daughter calls most of them her bff's and I'm so grateful for that. Even better, they still dance together at another studio. If you are looking for a recreational dance only place for your kids to have fun, go for it. If you are looking for a studio that will teach your kid PROPERLY, I suggest going somewhere else.

In order to perform at the recital we had to pay for the costume ( no complaints) and then pay $100 for the dancer and her family to watch the performance. The recital was outdoors in Livermore in June at 3p with no seats set up. They would not let her perform in the recital unless the $100 tickets were bought. Her performance was less than 2 min. Also, the classes are in Fremont but we had to drive ALL THE WAY to Livermore for the performance. Inconsiderate, cheap and I wouldn't recommend to parents looking for a fun dance class. Look elsewhere! I'm sure your city leisure services has great classes for a fraction of the price and headache.

The program is overall okay but my daughters got super bored after doing same dance for 3 sessions. Something could be done to make it more interesting for the kids. Instructors are not so kid friendly I guess. 2. During performance the positioning of the kids were in a manner that many of them were hidden at the back including mine. What is the point of performance when we can't see the kids on stage? A lot of money, efforts and time is invested here but if we need to search for our kids on stage then I would say it definitely needs some improvement in positioning. It would have been better if the entire big stage was used fully. A lot of space was left on the stage. 3. I most of the time felt rushed when asked about anything but observed instructor to be super nice and paying extra attention to other parents. I don't know why this bias. 4. After the performance, organizer asked the parents if they wish to take pictures with their teachers/family pictures. I went on stage to take pics with the instructor as per the my kid's wish, where I was again rushed by the instructor stating OTHER KIDS ARE WAITING FOR PIC DO IT FAST. She asked us to be in line when there was no line at all. If she rushes with everyone then it is sort of acceptable (giving it a benefit of doubt that this behavior is with everyone) but here also I saw her again rushed with me and my kids only. I initially didn't want to put this review but later felt that if the business takes it as a constructive feedback that it would be awesome. Only suggestion: If this place tries not to be biased against some parents (kids) based on the prejudices if any then this is definitely a good ballet learning place to look forward for. Also they need to work on the kids performance more than showcasing their own talent on stage. They should be using some other platform for that matter and totally focus on kids whose parents are putting lot of efforts, time and money in their performance. Although, Instructors are talented and hardworking.

CAUTION PARENTS!!! READ BEFORE YOU SIGN UP FOR THIS STUDIO…read more I'm taking time to write this review because we have experienced discrimination at this dance studio that no family should have to experience. We were amazed by the incredible dancing and excited to join. Unfortunately, however, this studio has too many problems to count including poor customer service, studio does not respond to my emails (they sort of pick and choose which emails to respond to and which parents), no one is present to greet parents/students at the front desk on a daily basis or to help with parent/student questions/concerns or watch for safety. It is also very disorganized. Dance competitive dance attire frequently goes missing in the studio and parents are left to track down paid for pieces yet made to feel like its their fault by the studio. My daughters were also not generally welcomed by most dancers. We believe this is racially related. Students just stay in their clicks which seem to be tied in part to race. Also, to note, team bonding events, parents are not welcome. So, if you have a young daughter that may feel more comfortable with you there as a parent at a swim party for example, the studio has the mentality that you can take it or leave it. If you don't like the no parent rule, then your dancer shouldn't come. I requested to set up a meeting during Ashley or Brooke's office hours and did not receive a response back to my request to discuss concerns (some concerns include Ashley speaking to my daughter disrespectfully by saying she looks like a "dog" while dancing, insistence on "straight" hair for competitions (mainly taking a toll timewise/greater expense on Black families), lack of response to emails, etc.). I tried to request again via email to meet during office hours or even a phone call back, but still no response back from anyone at the studio. Even in person, it seems Ashley will attempt to avoid me at all costs so that I do not have the opportunity to talk to her. On another occasion, the studio owner got upset at us for my daughter interrupting a teacher during a class because she couldn't find a missing item of hers and there was no other adult around to help her. We were later emailed requesting that we do not interrupt instructors during class. We apologized but also reminded the studio owner that part of these communication problems could be easily eliminated if the studio had appropriate coverage at the front desk for students/parents to ask questions. There is generally no one stationed at the front desk to help with general needs. Parents just sort of have to figure it out. It's no wonder that as soon as I attempt to address these issues via email, the studio owner writes back forcing us to leave saying that this studio is just "not a good fit for us". We believe part of the problem is that the studio just runs a poor business customer service-wise and also fosters an anti-black culture that is not inclusive racially. Parents are drawn to the incredible dancing, but many have shared with me that the business side has much to be desired for. They admitted that they don't speak up for fear of retaliation against their child. I have seen the owner talk to other parents in the back where there is a sign that says, "No parents beyond this point" and she will no talk to me. Our family has also overheard dancers talking about how they love the fact that this studio is so "White". For context, our girls train alongside approximately 98 competitive dancers at different levels. Out of this number of dancers, there are only 6 Black dancers. Two of these dancers are our daughters. The studio is now eliminating 2 of their Black dancers leaving only 4 competitive Black dancers out of 98. This statistic is sad and shows the glaring disproportionality impacting Black dancers. Mostly, I feel sad for our daughters who are now being asked to leave the studio and disregarded so easily after all the hard work that they have put in. We hope that our experience will make a difference for families to come and that people will heed our warning. You do not have to be Black to support fair practices in business and stand against anti-blackness. The dance world sees too much discrimination as it is.
