Just a few miles from my house, I've been coming here since the 80's It hasn't changed one bit, when all the resorts , stores and watering holes all disappeared and went out of business not Turtle Rock a great little bar! Dollar bills pinned to the ceiling and walls old days Berryessa vibe! The family works behind the bar locals and visitors love it here! Love the eggrolls read more

See all

People here are so freakin sweet. They helped us take a bunch of bags of ice to the car because we had a lot to bring back to the others we were camping with at Berryessa. Their egg rolls are delicious and we always order 15-20 when we come camping 5 stars on quality, service, and environment! read more

It's basically a bar, but a very cool local pub/spot. I wasn't impressed with the food as it is pretty much all fried. I tried the egg rolls, thinking they were vegetable, and I forgot to ask, if they had meat. I think they did. I'm still not sure LOL The hot mustard is amazing tho! The service was great. We sat outside on the patio & I like to people watch. I couldn't tell if they were a bunch of tourists or locals LOL I had a cocktail or two. It's a full bar. I would come again the future, but only 4 drinks & maybe a basket of fries. read more

Lots of hype around the "world famous" egg rolls. Although edible..not worth the trip. Glad to have checked it off my list. Interesting place but if you aren't passing by don't worry about skipping the trip. Upside was service was great and the layout of bar/kitchen/country store/camping supply/bait shop had me looking around quite a bit. read more

My Friend Pete and family, and Pete's dad always treated me with respect, Pete Sr, would fish me out minnows from the back deck back in the late 70's, Always cordial and polite. The best egg rolls and other food/ drinks. A Lake Berryessa landmark/ icon!!! read more

Great place out by Lake Berryessa to grab a cold beer, and a quick bite to eat. I ride motorcycles, and its a great stopping place. You must try the egg rolls.... yes, egg rolls !! read more

Turtle Rock - Great place to get a cold beer - Beer, Wine & Spirits Near Me - Napa, California

When you're out there and all alone (or with a skunk), lost, have already seen a dead hawk and an abandoned boat (the boat in FRONT of the trailer, on the wrong side of the road), are completely confused by the numbering of Highway 128, and are unsure about whether or not you wil be walking into uncertain death. You stop here for water, a cigarette, and directions. The water and the cigarette turn out fine, but the directions do not. I'm sure they get tired of us "city people" (if they only knew we were from Nevada and Wisconsin) asking for directions, but there's really no need to be surly about it. YES, I KNOW Napa encompasses that entire area. I have to deal with maps on a regular basis. I just don't know where this particular address is, and I'd like to get there. If you don't know, be nice about it. Other than that, this seems like a good place to grab a drink before heading to the lake- they have liquor AND eggrolls! It's just like any old honky-tonk bar/convenience store/diner and I'd go back...provided I knew where I was going this time. Although after yesterday and the tour de the entirety of Napa County, I doubt it will be soon. read more

Strange. Friendly, but strange. We were taking the scenic route out of Napa, back around the "back side" closer to Berryessa when we came upon this spot. Our dog was super irritated at having been in the car so long, so we decided to hop out and let her stretch her legs. Turtle Rock appears to serve a few purposes - biker stop, convenience store for folks heading to the lake, and maybe also for the folks staying at the odd little motel/boat storage place across the street. I decided to duck in for a drink and a snack before we hit the road again, and almost froze in my tracks. Even though I had just had a second to scratch my head at the "egg rolls" neon sign in the window (egg rolls? what a strange item to have posted, in neon, at a spot like this), I was totally unprepared for what I saw upon entrance. First: the interior is completely papered in dollar bills. I thought the Iron Gate had the market on dollar bills on the ceiling - I was wrong. Second: it's a bar. Not just a convenience store with egg rolls, which is what I was expecting, but a bar. With an actual bar, and locals, and booze, and well, all the things that go with your idea of what a bar should be. Service was friendly, as I paid for my convenience store items at the bar. . . . aside from the unexpected, there are lots of strange dark corners that feel like you shouldn't go into (are those shelves full of merchandise for purchase, or is that a storage area? Are the lights out, or is it always this dark over here because it's a bar?). I think it would've taken a longer stay, or perhaps a few more visits before I have it figured out, but I think that's kind of the point - the causal passer through isn't really SUPPOSED to figure it out. Just buy your snack mix, and your Kirkland water with the 300% mark up, and be on your way. Or sit down and have a drink - the choice is yours. read more

LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!! Friendly Staff! BEST egg Rolls! My kids absolutely love the magic they put into the Pizza! Refreshing Stop and The Ceiling of $$$ has been awesome to watch grow over the years. read more

I went in one weekend for a cold drink and some chips and had to use their restroom. I went to the restroom in the back of the store. I used the restroom, flushed the toilet, washed my hands and when I walked out one of the employees informed me the rest room was inoperable and said it didn't have running water and then she pointed to the sign by the door. She said there was a Porta Potty outside. I didn't give much thought at the moment but after thinking about it I remember the bathroom worked perfectly and had all of the running water needed. On top of that, since they serve cooked food they have to have running water for cleaning. I personally think they just don't want to maintain the restrooms for their so-called valued customers. I will not be stopping at this place again. read more

"World Famous Egg Rolls" ??? Nothing world famous here. Maybe it's time to change the fryer oil.

Took a motorcycle ride up here. No tap, only cans and bottles. Nonetheless, this place charges $4.00 for an 8oz beer can.

Great egg rolls & pizza, super friendly staff!! Pete is the best around, we love going here and anytime we have guest up we always bring them by. Make sure to sign a dollar bill and tape it to the ceiling while your there :) read more

A Lake Berryessa staple...Turtle Rock! Ice cold beer...amazing eggrolls...great atmosphere...Friendly staff...! Can't go to the lake without stopping here! read more

My first visit to this place. Very disappointed with service. We wanted to get a beer on tap. Nothing available. We spotted a fridge in the back, selling bottled beer. Purchased a six pack, paid at the bar and went outside, sat and the table to drink it. Few minutes later, some guy, presumably owner or employee, came out and asked us to leave. He did not want us to drink the beer we bought from him at his table!!?! This was most inconsiderable approach to a customer I have ever witnessed. read more

Love the ride here and the service and beer once you get inside. There's a reason they're world famous.... good people and good times. Egg rolls and beer and all the scenery you can take in. We appreciate your business and love stopping every chance we get! read more

I'm guessing this place is so popular because it's a singular outpost right off of a lake in a bit of a wilderness. So the views are great and everyone around rubs elbows. And when you walk in the dollar bills tacked to the ceiling and walls is a great visual. So that's all very cool. But they're overcharging for cheap beer. It's more fun to hang out in a campground and drink with your friends and neighbors. They say their eggrolls are world famous, but I don't know what for. Just the one I had was so greasy it could have lubed up a 20 foot slip n slide. If you eat one you won't have to worry about constipation for a while. read more

The new look is great! We hit up the egg rolls two weeks ago and they had different ingredients and were off! Today we returned just couldn't resist! Back to the original goodness. So yummy!! read more

Some of the most nicest and helping people in a small business such as itself, the food and drinks/alcohol was good, and all the dollar bills they have on the ceiling is a must to see! But the service was the best, my car tire popped from a pot hole just a few hundred yards away, and they were so kind enough to help us with bringing it back to the restaurant and letting us leave the car over night knowing it'd be safe and there for us to pick up when we could. read more

Ive heard dozens of people tell me "you have to try their egg rolls". Meh, its an egg roll. Its good, but not story worthy. Their kitchen looks a little sketchy and less than sanitary. But overall my lunch was good. Kind of expensive for what I got, but when you're in BF Napa county, you pay what they say. I probably won't be back. read more

I truly hate giving one star to anyone but I'm also not afraid to. One star is VERY generous for this place. The supposedly great egg roll had been cooked way before we got there and sat in its own grease forever. Totally nasty! I watched as the bar tender poured a Guinness for a gal, realized the glass was dirty but instead of giving her a fresh glass and beer he simply poured the beer into another glass and handed it to her. The "kitchen" is a complete joke. The food is better and with a bigger selection at 7/11. Beer was mildly cool, food was NASTY and the place was filthy. To make things better they had a port a potty as a bathroom. Top to bottom this place was a pit. read more

What can I say about Turtle Rock other than the best damn egg rolls you'll ever eat. The staff is cool with a bunch of ole timers and original bartenders. They have beer and liquor for sale along with a decent kitchen menu. I have been here about ten times on a motorcycle ride around the lake. If youre looking for a good spot to stop and are in need of some refreshment then roll on in. Dont forget to stick a dollar up to the wall for good luck. read more

Awesome little place. Really cool bar and BEST egg rolls ever. Only bar I know that has egg rolls and they are amazing.

I enjoy the ride up this way on the back of the bike. It is very refreshing to say the least. We have always stoped in for a bite and no complaints here. Everyone we have meet employees to guest great conversations. Glad the weather is better :) planning a ride tomorrow. read more

HA HA I love that they have this catergorized under night life because it is SO NOT! It's a corner store in the middle of no where with a bar. It does have a lot character, dollar bills on the ceiling, the guy next to you may be named Scary Larry (I kid you not), etc. It's a great place to cool off off with a cold drink before heading down to the lake. The owner/bartender Pete is a great guy and always has a smile. You will never leave thirsty =) read more

Best eggrolls anywhere. Dip in the sriracha hot sauce and homemade hot mustard... Awesome. I drive the 25 miles of trijust for the eggrolls. You can buy a bag of frozen ones to fry at home. Good motorcycle destination. read more

We stopped here for some drinks and a bite to eat on our way to Berryessa. There's no phone service in the area so we also needed a little local wisdom on how to get there as there was a wildfire nearby and some roads were closed. We received terribly disrespectful and ungracious treatment from the people at this bar. They were not willing to provide directions, allow us to use their phone for a local call, or share their wifi password so we could figure out an alternate route ourselves. Surely a business in a phone deadzone, with no other businesses for miles around should make a feature out of being helpful to paying customers. Instead, we left wishing we hadn't given them a dime. We visit the area regularly and will be making a point of avoiding this place in future/ advising others to do the same. read more

After driving by this place over a dozen times this summer the fiancé and I finally decided to stop and see what all the fuss was about these eggrolls and I have to say OMG I don't know why we waited so long to try this place!! After a long day at the lake the greasy delicious fried eggrolls are to die for!! We ordered 6 and let me tell ya we should have ordered 6 more. These things are simply amazing!! Well worth the drive just for these delicious eggrolls! I am totally hooked, we will never drive to the lake again without stopping here. And the dollar bills covering the ceiling just add to the awesomeness of this place!! read more

LOVE THIS PLACE! Saw it while driving through on a road trip to Napa & stopped to stretch our legs & wet our whistles. The bartenders were friendly & knew the names of all the locals. Good beer selection & they make their bloody Mary's completely from scratch. I didnt try it, but it looked excellent & I will order it next time for sure. You can't leave without trying their "world famous" homemade egg rolls & homemade wasabi mustard!!!! Best egg roll I have ever had & I wanted to drink the wasabi mustard cus it was so tasty. Can't wait to come by again sometime. Thanks Max! read more

There is no better (or other) place in the area and there is nothing like sitting down at the bar and ordering a cold beer to go along with your egg roll. The owner and staff always do their best to make you feel welcomed. Worth checking out! read more

I'm not an egg roll person, so I can't really rate one of their best attributes. Friendly staff enough. They also serve as a very little mini mart, which is nice if you need hooks, or etc. I wish they had some better bathrooms. The price is a little high, but do to its relatively remote location seem reasonable. Be warned, the first place time I visited this place I opened the beer cooler to look at the beer when deciding, and they went a little crazy. I now act like a ninja when getting beer out, but overall the staff is chill. They would get 5 stars if they had some decent restrooms. read more

Awesome place to grab a bite to eat and a great drink! The owner Pete is super cool and the staff are very friendly. Check it out!!

Took a motorcycle ride from Rio Vista to lake Berryessa yesterday and got caught in the un-forecast rain just short of my goal. I decided to stop at the Turtle Rock for a bite to eat and get out of the rain. A nice lady greeted me with a little sarcasm, which I took in stride and answered in kind. I wish I could remember her name, as she is the only reason for the one star. I asked her if I could park my bike under the porch because of the rain and she said it would be fine. After finishing my chicken sandwich, that may have spent some time on the ice with the NHL, and paying at the bar, I made my way to the restroom. Naturally, the door displayed a seemingly aged and yellow sign reading "OuT oF orDer". Perfect. I made my way back to my table to collect my gear and move on when I was accosted by a man who appeared to be the proprietor. With a snarky attitude he queried as to whether that was my bike parked under the porch. I answered in the affirmative. "You need to move it now" was his next remark as he turned to his duties in the grill area. I informed him that I was given permission by one of his employees to park it there to which he repeated his earlier grunt. I couldn't help but chuckle to myself "what? Is it in the way of the nonexistent line of patrons dying to get their hands on one of your doorstop sandwiches?". I retrieved my bike after helping myself to the Port-o-Potty outside and made my way back to civilization by way of wine country reflecting on how I would never give the Turtle Rock another dime, or nickel for that matter. Next time I'll stop elsewhere, even if it means eating a year old protein bar out of my panniers. Don't waste your time or money in this ..... establishment. If you're not one of the local bubbas, you're not welcome. read more

Where to begin...Let's start with how rude the staff was. We stopped by here on our way to Berryessa to grab a drink and get some direction. Not only would they not offer us directions but when I offered to pay to use their phone since their was no cell signal they told me to drive down the road and find signal somewhere else. Bar was completely empty, it stuck like a bad fish fry, and on top of it their rude...never again! read more
