We have several members of our family with very specific health needs and Dr. Carl and his staff keep us up to date so we don't have to remember all of the details! They take care of it for you. Making appointments is as easy as can be. Prescription refills are always checked and evaluated and dispensed appropriately. Cathy is the lead nurse and she is always super organized and extremely helpful and communicative! Colleen is such a sweet and welcoming member of WellcomeMD. I always love seeing her face!:) Heidi is fabulous on the phone and great with communications. She gets the job done! But when it comes to your health, your relationship with your doctor, it's an intimate dynamic because it requires clarity and trust on the part of the doctor and patient. Dr. Carl is so relaxed that he puts his patients at ease immediately. He is thorough and goes through all of your blood panels with you one-on-one and makes excellent suggestions and also is complimentary if he feels that you are doing well. He will prescribe supplementation only if it is reflected as needed in your bloodwork. Personally, my blood pressure zooms up every time I go to the doctor. But with Dr. Carl, he brings it back to normal and puts me at ease. Obviously, my entire family and I are fans of WellcomeMD. I recommend Dr. Carl and Dr. Colfer to everyone I know! As an aside, we drive 1.5 hours each way, just to be a part of their practice. They are THAT good.

Speaking of countless, my story is only one of countless others. My story: Recently, my oldest sister (previously a nurse) and last sibling of four, suffered a massive stroke in the right hemisphere of her brain. Flown in a Life Star from a remote location eighty miles away as the Star flies to VCU. Immediately emitted to the Critical Care Center ICU. She eventually, gained from movement on her right side and very limited communication in about a week. Thou her prognosis wasn't positive, the medical care team kept hope and provided time for loved ones to visit and make peace. My daughter (also a nurse) and I were able to visit. The medical staff made sure every visitor were comfortable, informed, and able to spend as much time as needed to be with her. After about two weeks in the facility, my sister's final wish was to be home with loved ones; all with the mutual agreement with her husband and the immediate family. The Palliative Care Team assisted everyone discussing options and planning the next steps together. The Team was available as needed to answer and questions or concerns. Transferred home and under the watchful eye of family, Hospice professionals, and the Palliative Team, Barb was able to be home for a few more days. Rest In Peace dear sister (and aunt, wife, daughter, mother, grand mother, even a great-grand mother!). VCU we are all, including Nurse Barbara, forever grateful.

When I went in for an outpatient procedure they handed me a $365 bill prior to the procedure, and asked if I could make a payment. Called my insurance and they said my copay was $284. Came here for my first physical in years, figured I was overdue for one. Dr. Kent took care of me…read morefairly well, and he was very straightforward in his approach which I greatly appreciated. Dr. Kent was one of my options as a member of the Anthem Healthkeepers section of Bluecross, and he had quite a lengthy service record as a physician, so I opted for him. His office was very quaint, didn't look like a doctor's office from the outside at all. Parking was easy, and the front desk employee was pleasant enough. They asked me to call my insurance company later to have Dr. Kent listed as my PCP, though when I did so later I was told that that was unnecessary and that Dr. Kent would definitely be properly compensated regardless; I get the feeling that many of Kent's patients have been a little problematic in terms of payment based on the way the employee approached the situation. I didn't have to wait very long at all before Dr. Kent came to get me. We went through the process of taking my history and basic measurements, though he did seem a bit rushed in doing so; his explanation was that one of his nurses wasn't there that day, so it's understandable I suppose. After that I was whisked down the hall to do the usual fluid tests and that process was about what you'd expect from a place of this nature, though they did it very expediently. Returned to Kent post-tests a few minutes later and he saw nothing of note on my lab results. Need to lose a little weight, though I was well-aware of that before I came in (if you see all my restaurant reviews on here, it shouldn't be any surprise that I have gained a few pounds!). A few days later, he called me back with the additional lab results and told me that everything checked out and that he wished me much luck in the future as I would likely not have to return for a year or two. Overall, he seemed quite nice and well-informed and I would likely return to him for another yearly checkup or if I was experiencing general problems. I'd take him over PatientFirst anyday! Overall: 4.0 stars ----------- Pros: - He has lots of experience, he's straightforward, and he's attentive. - Easy parking. - Very short wait, and your visit probably won't take too long. Cons: - Admittedly, I did feel rushed through the history-taking process. If there had been something wrong with me, I would have been a bit worried that he might have missed something. - The practice has a very informal feel to it, though it doesn't really detract from the quality of care you're receiving.

I always felt like the support staff would rather be playing on their phone than assisting me, and I would have a very long wait while I was in the office to see him. It would also take a significantly amount of work to get refills called it. I felt like I was bothering the staff to do their jobs. Then, two years ago I had an injury and made a 'first available' appointment, and was seen by Dr. Miller. Well, she was FANTASTIC! She took the time to listen to me and really was far superior to Dr. Veech, so I called to have my annual switched over to Dr. Miller. I had to wait 6 months to get an appointment, but it was worth it. I have been going to her for the last year and a half, and then I get a letter in the mail that she is leaving the practice. So now I'm leaving the practice too.

They were both extremely rude and showed no compassion. I have also had issues in the past with them twice failing to return urgent phone calls for 3-5 days and forgetting to order blood tests prior to when I showed up for an appointment. I have had friends express similar horror stories going to this practice.... They are extremely disorganized. I am looking for a new primary care doctor. The experience with the staff was unacceptable.

Doctors Lorena and Kevin Harvey opened Physicians of Family Medicine over twenty years ago, at their Oxbridge office. I do not know the exact year, but I have been a very satisfied patient for over twenty years. I have been extremely happy with her husband (Dr. Kevin) as my primary care provider for most of those years. When he retired, I was worried about getting another primary care physician and tried his replacement, Dr. Marshall. I was not happy with him and was told I might like Dr. Lorena better. The office staff was correct and I have been very happy with Dr. Lorena Harvey. She has seen me through many rough times and I have a great respect for her. I have a hard time scheduling appointments around my work schedule and they are always willing to work around my schedule to be sure I get the great service I desire and need. She works out of their Cloverhill office located at 13861 Hull Street Road, Midlothian VA. 23112. It is not exactly on Hull Street Road so I do not know how they got this exact address, but it is across from Food Lion and Burger King just off of Hull street next to Outback Steakhouse. Also, a quick note that if she does not have an appointment available when you need one, there are a number of other doctors in the office that may be able to fir you in their schedules, and their Oxbridge office is open on Saturdays for walk-ins, no appointment necessary. Again, I am extremely fortunate to have her as my Primary Care Physician. Steven "Randy" Brooks
