After searching and calling around my husband and I decided to go with Turf Grass Hawaii because Derek was very helpful in answering all our questions prior to us purchasing and sod. Free advice is hard to come around now-a-days. We had to redo our backyard after my dogs tore up and delivery to Mililani was on time. She was very conservative with what I needed for topsoil quotes, included a cash discount and military discount, I bought 1600sq ft and 7 yards of the Mini. Magic!! They delivered the topsoil first so we could spread it out, then the turf El Toro came afterwards and we laid it all out in a few hours! **CASH ONLY, CLOSED FOR LUNCH** Best believe this is definitely the best and cheapest place on the island for turf grass but why the 2 stars? Customer service is so bad over the phone and email. No one picked up the phone during normal business hours so I thought I got the wrong number. I went ahead and emailed them and they actually responded fast which included the number I was dialing was correct. I asked about prices and hours of operation and asked if they were going to be open on Monday, Memorial Day. They responded with a "YES" drove all the way into the Lualualei Homestead Valley deep in Waianae to find them closed. Again no one picked up the phone which I resorted to email and a response of "Sorry! We're closed" I was very disappointed because I was told otherwise and I was planning my day to do some yard work over the holiday weekend. Yes, I still made my purchase through them and was told CASH ONLY. Ran down the valley to the nearest ATM to run back up the valley. I also measured wrong and needed to go back up into the valley to make another purchase for more and they were closed for lunch. read more

Contacted Turfgrass Hawaii for a quote. Ian called us back and came out for the estimate, he was in a Turfgrass shirt and driving a turfgrass truck. He did a great presentation, sold us and we were happy to pay the $1500 for a tiny corner of lawn, even though it sounded very expensive. This included soil brought in to create an optimal slope (he said he was VERY serious about the slope being perfect so that all the water would run off correctly and not pool), and a weed-free guarantee for 6 months (he or his guys would come back and weed it if anything did pop up). He said the weed follow up was especially needed for nutgrass. Installation day came and it seemed good until I asked when the extra soil was coming to create the promised slope. They started scrambling and rushed off to grab soil. We were then charged extra for this soil. They didn't bring enough and now it pools and runs in the wrong direction. Last thing Ian said was, "Just water the grass and do not cut it. I will be back to weed and tell you when to start cutting it." Months came and went and no follow up. We called, texted, begging for a follow up but nothing ever came. He just kept saying he come by in a few days. Never did. Now we had long grass, weeds and a ton of nutgrass poking through. Called the Turfgrass Hawaii owner Derek. Derek claims that Turfgrass does not do installations. This is in direct contrast to what his website and employees say (we drove by and asked a couple Turfgrass employees). He says our complaint is with the installation contractor, not with Turfgrass. We had initially left a msg with Turfgrass, got a call back from Ian. At no point were we informed that we had now been pushed off to a contractor and were no longer dealing with Turfgrass Hawaii. In trying to have a calm conversation with Derek he was very aggressive in his manner and kept cutting me off when I was trying to speak. I finally gave up. I had my boyfriend call a week later, he started calm and ran into the same dismissal of our problem from Derek. Despite the "outside contractors" wearing his shirts and driving his trucks, he had some lame explaination as to why our check was made out to and deposited by Turfgrass Hawaii, but now he claimed no responsibility. My boyfriend was forced to raise his voice to get any of his point across. Derek finally said to appease the situation he would come out and spray the nutgrass. He did this, said he would follow up again. Nothing. Now we have a ton of nutgrass and no idea what to do about it. Total time past has been 6 months from installation. Apparently workers wearing Turfgrass Hawaii t-shirts, and driving Turfgrass Hawaii trucks are outside contractors. You are on your own if they screw you over. I have a large backyard as well as a smaller front yard so I needed to purchase a total of around 5,000 sq ft of sod to complete my lawn project. I had two options: I could purchase sod scraps (which turf grass Hawaii advertises on Craigslist for $1.50 sq ft) or I could pay double the price and get nice and fresh sod. The only way I'd be able to afford this is to go with the sod scraps. Derek (owner) was very accommodating in making sure the order is delivered. There were some pieces that couldn't be used and he graciously sent his workers and truck to pick them up and replace with more usable pieces of sod. If you're willing to water extra plenty and willing to wait for a nicer lawn keep your eyes out on Craigslist for their posts of scrap sod. If you're wanting an instant beautiful lawn you'll pay a little more and the grass you'll get is in top shape. So if you're looking to remodel your lawn choose turf grass Hawaii! read more

When my wife read my review before posting she said I sounded like I worked for the company. Well I don't work for Turfgrass Hawaii. I am a budget conscious, wanna get the most out of my money, hard-working, smart shopper like you. Before I settled on Turfgrass Hawaii I call every landscaping company listed in Yelp. Of the 8 that actually came down to do a Free estimate, I chose Turfgrass because excellent customer service and unbeatable price. Brad was punctual, didn't come off as a salesman, and answered every one of my questions with respect. Before installation I did my homework. I learned what the difference between sod, plugs, and seed was and also what kind of soil I had and what plants would grow best. I made my top 5 list of companies which I asked bids of based on the same list of services to see how their prices stood compared to each other. Turfgrass came out less than half of what the other guys quoted me for the same services. Not that the choice was already clear, but the customer service we got from Brad sealed the deal. What I ended up with was exactly what Brad said he would deliver. A Kahala yard at an Ewa Beach price. Whether you know what you want, need some other company's mistake redone, or have no clue but just want a nice yard don't waste your time calling anybody else.
