Apparently my little Mazda has invisible paint because in the last two months, it's been hit twice in my parking lot! The only good thing about these accidents is that it's validated my belief in the basic honesty of people, especially in NC. Thankfully both parking lot offenders offered to cover damages to my car and my second visit brought me to Tunstall-Williams for the body work. Now I know how hard it is to find good auto repair people, it stinks to be taken for a ride but Tunstall-Williams has been in business for over 60 years! They also do a large amount of paint and body work for Raleigh's police and fire departments so I'm guessing they're honest and good. My work with them was pretty straight-forward: a quick review of my insurance adjuster's estimate, 4 days in the shop and payment by check or credit card. Pretty painless and my Mazda 3 looks mostly as good as new. They're definitely an old-school auto shop which is fine by me. And I'm seriously hoping that three times is not a charm! Tunstall-Williams - Body Shops Near Me - Spring Hope, North Carolina

I took my 2003 Lexus GX470 to a body shop I've used in the past with my rear bumper dent and a scrape in my front bumper. They said they would need to replace the rear bumper and sand and repaint the front bumper. Not happy with that answer, I took the car to Tunstall William on Highway 98. Tim looked at the car and said no problem, we can fix and paint the existing bumper and buff out the front bumper for 1/3 the cost of the other body shop. The difference is Tim and his people are all craftsmen not parts replacers. When I picked up the Lexus it looked like it just rolled off the dealer showroom. Unbelievably Amazing!! 15 mos ago the window mechanism on my VW Cabrio broke and was repaired here. It broke again a couple weeks ago. The warranty on the part was for 12 mos. Tim Mixon, the owner, is the kind of person that is getting harder and harder to find nowadays, the kind that actually cares about his customers and providing them the best possible service, and not just making a profit. (Plus, his folksy charm would fit right in in fictional Mayberry!) After going to two other bodyshops to get estimates on repairing self-inflicted damage to the liftgate on my '17 Toyota Highlander, I took it to Tim based on his wonderful online reviews. Now those other body shops also had great reviews, and both treated me honestly, but simply estimated the work on the assumption that my insurance would cover it. They gave me nearly identical prices of about $2,600 to repair the damage, including replacing the actual liftgate. Only Tim explained why it was NOT in my best interest to make an insurance claim, due to (1) my $1,000 deductible, (2) the 45% increase that would result in my auto insurance premiums for the next THREE years and (3) the lowered resale value of my car that would happen when the insurance company reported the (very minor) damage to Carfax. Instead, he proposed that he could restore the original liftgate and make the car look like new for about $1,250 total. When he explained it that way, it was a no-brainer! So I brought him the car and true to his word, it looks like new! However, there were a couple of very minor problems that appeared after I had driven the car for a few weeks. Tim had told me that if anything like that came up or I wasn't 100% satisfied, I should just bring the car back to him and he would make it right, and that's exactly what I did and exactly what he did - while I waited! Bottom line - I recommend Tim wholeheartedly! You can't do better! Also I want to say a word about Tim's lovely wife Caroline, who handles the front office - she is also a pleasure to deal with! read more

Tunstall-Williams is not somewhere I want to visit but if I have another fender bender or even something more serious I know where I will go to have it repaired. A momentary mental lapse resulted in a scrape along a concrete pillar and a visit to Tunstall-Williams. When I inspected the car before picking it up, the repair was so perfect that I had a momentary doubt whether I was looking at the correct side. Stopped by to see about getting an estimate after someone backed into my driver's side tire well. Once Tim saw me struggle to open the jammed door, he asked if I needed help with it. I said, yes, I was wondering if you could give me an estimate to fix it. He said he'd be right back. I thought he was going to get a form, clipboard that sort of thing. Instead, he comes out with a tool, inserted it between the two panels of my car and popped out the dent enough so that my door was now functional and he didn't charge me a dime! I was ready to sign whatever he was going to give me for a permanent fix. Sadly, he said they were in the middle of a move to outside the city limits because developers were buying up all the property AND the city increased his property taxes to such an excessive amount, it didn't make business sense to stay. I hate that Raleigh is jettisoning out all the good services in the name of more "luxury apartments"!! read more
