On a trip to Alexandria LA yesterday, we stopped in here for dinner! I had the Alligator Parmesan...It's their special fried alligator topped with a rich creole sauce, Parmesan and cheddar cheese, and a side of fries with fried bread. Talk about amazing!! Neat little spot. Old school vibe in the sense that they still keep crackers on the table and serve dishes with parsley like my working class, cigarette smoking grandpa would have expected. Food was fresh service was kind and you can tell they take pride in their work. The salad bar was sparse but quite good with inventive creations. Some sort of cold soup with tomato base and veggies was a hit at our table. I liked it well enough overall. Dug the vibe of the exterior. Appetizers Crab Claws - Excellent Catfish nuggets - average Fried Pickles - Excellent Shrimp Cocktail - good Fried Alligator - Excellent I've had a lot of different Entree's but always seem to go back to my personal favorites of Boiled Shrimp/Crawfish, Fried Shrimp, Snapper Sandy, Dungenouss Crabs, Alaskan King Crab Legs. Had dinner here with the family last night. Since my hubby is from Pineville LA he's been here before but it was my first time here since we PCS to fort polk. We ate downstairs at the oyster bar they had some live music playing and this restaurant is on the lake so it was nice. For appetizer we had the blackened alligator and my husbands cousins had the fried alligator they were both good. Of course we came here for the crawfish! And it was really good! I've had crawfish before but this was by far the best crawfish I've ate since we moved here. Everyone enjoyed themselves and my son which is 5 had a great time dancing :) I would recommend this place to friends and we for sure will be coming back to this place again! read more

Got into Alexandria late in the afternoon in early-October, with the goal of getting to Leesville. Suggested by a co-worker who hadn't been here in years, the three of us decided to stop-in at Tunk's! WOW!! What an AWESOME view of the lake!! Tons of seating, too -- bar, indoors, and outdoors! Since it's early-October, the temps were cool! Perfect for a slow, southern sunset! While sitting outdoors at lake-level, we fed the turtles and fish with the crackers the restaurant supplies. Waitress even told us the turtles preferred the Saltines. I love southern food, but ESPECIALLY Cajun food! In 2008, our church had gone to Buras, LA, to help a local Pastor rebuild his church and home. His family fed us TONS of food!! Mainly seafood and crawdads -- two items that ALWAYS top my list of favorite foods! Well, the only bummer part of that trip was that I didn't get a chance to eat any alligator. I'll give you three chances to guess what I had at Tunk's, but your first two guesses won't count! Fried alligator was suggested by my mid-west buds, so fried alligator's what I ordered! I was NOT disappointed either! As advertised -- the gator was T-E-N-D-E-R!!!!!! They served it with tartar sauce and cocktail sauce. But honestly -- you won't need 'em...the Cajun spices they used on the gator was PERFECT!! Batter wasn't overdone either. Salad bar is sparse, but I don't go to a southern restaurant to sample / critique their salad bar. I come for the main course! Since we got here on Tuesday, the special was AYCE shrimp. Both of my buds ordered 'em, but only one ate three orders worth. If quantity consumed is a gauge of whether or not someone likes a particular dish, I'd say he enjoyed the shrimp ...hahaha... My side dish was the sweet potato, which came served up with pecans! TONS of pecans! Deeeeee-licious!!!!!! The sweet potato served as my dessert : ) If after reading this you're wondering why I rated Tunk's 5-stars, I think you need to re-read this review! Bottomline -- Tunk's has abundant parking, abundant seating, abundant views, and abundant food! Oh, and the southern hospitality is ALSO abundant ... from the servers to the other fellow-diners!! This place is perfectly located right next to Kincaid lake. Scenery is beautiful! Nice rustic lodge feel, friendly staff. If you loved blackened food the fried alligator with the butter sauce is incredibly and so tender! The fried green tomatoes with the remoulade is just spicy enough to get your fix, but not over bearing. Nice wine selection to go along with an amazing menu! Found our new date spot! read more

Gosh, how to rate this place... I am going with 3 stars, but read 3.5. We were in the oyster bar so upstairs may be better. I would come back here again, no questions asked, but it is because it is a pretty austere, no frills bar, with life music and pretty cheap food. I had the all-you-can-eat bowl'd shrimp and I had 80 of the tasty buggers. The waitress didn't have any problem with me letting my companions try a few, and we didn't take advantage of this. She (our waitress) kept them coming, even before I had finished my current order. That NEVER happens! So why the less than perfect rating? Two reasons really. First, all they had for local (read Louisiana) beer was Abita amber. Ok, so the state isn't exactly Oregon, but there are many good local beers - so carry them! Second, the alligator was not very good. The fried tasted like chicken nuggets while the blackened was saucy and way over-cooked. This place is a staple, even if it is pretty far out of town, so to make the trip worthwhile, I would love a bit more food preparation consistency and local beverages. Tunks has an amazing location. Right on the lake...it's set up like a little cabin style restaurant. There is a deck on the lake with chairs so you can eat and drink outside of the downstairs bar. A Dance floor and great live music..also a jukebox. I am not huge on crawfish or most seafood, but what I have eaten is good. I got a burger one night and it was subpar. A little cold and not that great, but what do you expect from a place that specializes in all you can eat crawfish, shrimp, and seafood. read more

I come to Louisiana one time each year and always make sure I eat at Tunks Cypress Inn. We had the fried alligator and crawfish, both very tasty. I had the bread pudding with bourbon sauce (where's the bourbon?), my husband had the pecan pie (too small of a slice for the money) - next time we will pass on the dessert. All in all, it was good food, friendly people and a great view of the lake. So much food to eat, any leftovers, I feed it to the begging turtles by the oyster bar. read more

While in Alexandria for work we heard about this place and decide to make the drive out on a Tuesday evening. Since it was dark the place can be a little hidden(thanks for gps). We started off with some oysters and followed up with some fried alligator(a first for my coworker and I, delicious!). The gumbo intrigued my tastebuds and ordered a cup and it was the best I have tasted in any place so far, definitely recommend trying it out. My entree was the snapper sandy, it comes in a brown paper bag in a delicious creamy sauce. Great place to have dinner and trying out some southern food. As a visitor to Alexandria, I appreciated Tunk's for it's beautiful atmosphere and good seafood. Located on a beautiful lake, we were able to watch the sky change colors as the sun went down while we were eating. The salad bar was OK, as was the bread I got with my meal (I guess I don't love fried bread anyhow). However, the red snapper I got was delicious, and there was plenty of it. I'm not entirely sure how this place is so popular. I've not been to this place in years and my return visit was really blah. The location is nice but I don't think it's been updated in years. The food was as I remembered it - bland. There are hole in the wall places around the state that are half the price that beat Tunks soundly in a number of ways. The over priced fading atmosphere is eventually going to be the downfall of this place. read more

I was told the Snapper Florentine was delicious and it was!!!! It's not on the menu, you have to ask for it. I cleaned my plate and I never do that! My husband had the fish sampler and we shared. I usually get the Snapper Sandy, which is also delicious....it's a toss up on which is better!!! read more

I've only eaten here once. The food was alright. It was mostly fried stuff served with more fried stuff. My favorite part about this place was that I was out boating with friends and we were able to call in our order, pull up to the dock connected to the restaurant, and we were served our food on the boat. So... This was one of the first places we went to on our 2 week trip here. The location was super cool like everyone said, the bar area was neat as well. The dining room/food was simply mediocre. Funny enough though, we all thought it was good. That was until one of the locals with us decided to do a boil for us a few days later. The seafood at Tunks compared to other places is simply mediocre, you can and will find better if you try. Move along. read more

This place was amazing! A mixture of casual and nice dressed. No one was judging what you were wearing. The staff was amazing. Ambiance was incredible - it's right on Kincaid Lake with outdoor seating available if you want. They gave us crackers to feed the ducks. A little walkway was open with lights leading to the lake. The food was INCREDIBLE. We couldn't have gone wrong with anything we ordered. 10/10 recommend stopping here to eat. read more

Soft shell crabs were great, came with lightly battered fries that were great and we split crawfish that were seasoned excellently. Service and wait time were typical of my experience of smaller towns in this part of the country. View along the lake was sweet. I was here 2 days in a row. This was a return visit and the food I got on day 1 was great. Waiter (Harold) was attentive and quick with all our food and requests. We sat in the bottom level so Harold had to get all our food from upstairs, but everything came out quickly without a hitch. I guess we should've left well enough alone. On day 2, everything was a disaster. I ordered the shimp All-U-can-eat and waited close to 20+ min before it came out despite requesting it expedited and asking the waitress to not wait for the rest of the table to finish their apps. Finally when my first 2 orders of shrimp came out, all of them were mushy. They seemed to have been boiled so long that the meat disintegrated as soon as I picked them up in my fingers. So after another 10 min or so, I got a new order of shrimp. The texture was better but then now I can taste that that the shrimp if far from the fresh shrimp that I envisioned. It's bland and lacks any natural taste that good shrimps should have. I wish I knew the restaurant uses cheap shrimp for All-U-ca-eat night because I'd have just ordered a regular entree. Well, since that night, I 've found much better local places for good seafood. Robby G's is now my go-to place and the price is like half of what Tunks charges. Good bye Tunks... Another very nice restaurant out near Kincaid Lake, we used to go out here and have a business luncheon, Jimbo is awesome. They are also on for lunch now and that's really good because we go see them sometimes after church. If you're looking for a very quiet place on the water to go have some seafood, Tunk's is the place for you. read more

So we found the patio at Tunks it is a good thing that the view was so good cuz it took us a little under an hour to get actual drinks and our order taken. However after relocating to the oyster bar downstairs Lisa was amazing. The view was great and the food was great.
