Extremely disappointed went for lunch yesterday waiter was very nice . I ordered Friend Almond Chicken with Fried Rice, Egg roll and Egg drop Soup. The chicken must have been Shredded for stir fry then fried because it was most definitely finely shredded chicken, the Fried Rice was nothing more than brown rice no vegetables no scrambled egg, no meat Zero in it very dry I've had better at Panda Buffet the soup was fair not tasty bland the Egg roll was more like Spring roll again No Meat at all. This is the third time recently that I've gone it just keeps going down!!! Maybe they should go back to Cooking School. My son got Sushi he said as many times as he has gone here he too was Disappointed he said they had some kind of mayo blend drizzled on top!! He tried scraping it off. Mandarin is really special because the owners/family also previously owned another fav, The Wok. Feeling nostalgic typing this, we frequented The Wok during high school and sadly they closed their doors this year. While I know this is a review for Mandarin, that background information is relevant. So Mandarin- my absolute favorite go-to order in high school was the Tiny Spicy Chicken, an eggroll, and fried rice. Welp, surprise!! Lifestyle change: Now my go-to order is Tiny Spicy Shrimp, a spring roll, and fried rice. Still delicious AF! One of my favorite places to eat in Alexandria. I was in there yesterday and ordered the Sweet & Sour Chicken, usually great dish. This was not the same as last time i had it. It was packaged and not prepared in the kitchen. Service, as always was great, but I was disappointed in the dish. Hope to return on a future visit to Alexandria and give it another try. read more

Just ordered as takeout and as usual was very good. The best tiny spicy chicken. We got 2 entrees ( tiny spicy chicken and Mongolian beef) white rice came with it. We got egg rolls also. The service is on point every time. I rarely ever eat in the dining area but from the looks it is clean and comfortable. I have never met anyone there that wasn't gracious even when they are crazy busy. If you get a chance check it out! Would eat something from here at least once a week if it was closer but after getting off from work I don't want to drive across town to get something. I stopped by Mandarin while working in Alexandria and the reviews were spot on. I had the shrimp with broccoli and it was great. The first thing to note was the portion was huge, really could have split it between two people. Secondly was the freshness and abundance of shrimp. We are traveling through Louisiana on our way to Virginia. Stopped in Alexandria to spend the night. Chose Mandariin for dinner based in the selection on the menu. Ordered Hawaiian roll, maki roll and sunami roll. All were great. The Sunami roll had an outer layer of apple and a sweet sauce on it. Our waitress was very attentive. Last few visits have not been good. Loyal Wok/Mandarin customers of over 27 years. Past six months each order has problems. Asked for hot mustard and chop sticks. Didn't get. Another time, almond chicken which usually has very little spice was very spicy. Charged (and in fairness, received) dinner portion meals but ordered lunch specials. Cashier today said she couldn't hear me when I called in order. Probably because she had phone on speaker and getting feedback from the other cashier. ( I could hear that whole conversation!). Egg rolls tasted "off" today. Management just needs to hang out, watch and give feedback to keep these little issues from becoming bigger problems. read more

I'm used to big city Chinatown Asian where everyone who works there and everything they serve is authentic. The establishment was beautiful upon entering. I ordered. They gave a good amount of food for the price but the chicken chow mein was like soup and had absolutely no taste. The Mongolian beef was supposed to be spicy, yet it was sweet without heat. From the way the spring roll and the fried shrimp looked, it looked like the oil was a month old. I also, ordered a sushi roll which was described to have black mushrooms, crab stick, cucumber, gobo radish...it had raw green beans and what looked like mango. No wasabi was given with the roll. Service was cool. Food came out quickly and was hot, but for the amount/ pricing the food could taste better and could actually be as described. Took one bite and threw up, then tried to choke down the rest but couldn't do it. I think the amount t of msg used may be the reason the Mongolian beef looked the way it did. First time eating here. Was it good? I would say average. Will this be a place I am so excited to come eat at when I come back home. The answer is no. They don't do a lot of items on certain days. Really wanted fresh spring rolls but, they do not do these on Saturday. They did have a lunch menu on Saturday. If I remember it is 11-3. I had the Sautéed chicken and string beans. I've been giving this restaurant my business for many years from when they were oriental wok to now, Mandarin. For years I've ordered the combination plate that on the menu clearly states it come with a drink. Everytime I've ordered this to go I get the drink to go. Last night when I went in to order the owner( older man) refused to include the drink, he said it was dine in only. I have never had this problem before, it was sad because our children go to school together. He was willing to lose a 40$ order over tea. The level of bad customer service and greed... I will not return and give them my business. I truly hope going forward they will honor the menu, I didn't ask for a freebie, I asked for what the meal included per menu. read more

Equivalent to mall Chinese food: came at 2, ordered the tiny spicy chicken from the lunch menu. The food had a weird mix of hot and cold: Hot/warm chicken, cold rice, hot egg roll, cold soup. It was interesting. The flavor was just meh. The rice tasted like nothing at all. I wouldn't really call it fried rice. Waitress was great, restaurant lovely but table was dirty and obviously had not been wiped down. But for $20 meal and tea and tip it is was just ok. read more
