The Gateway is to me just as the name implies - a gateway between Downtown Newark and Newark Penn…read moreStation. Beyond traversing between the two is a large business building. Most of my visits here have actually been for that - business for one of my clients family attorney. Several floors up after getting clearance is a fancy suite where I'm sure high profile law meetings take place as it is extremely high end looking and assume the other floors look the same. In the main area is an extension of what Newark Penn Station is like, New York Penn as well with various shops to consider before you travel. From what I can tell it serves it's purpose. An upscale office building complete with security, an art gallery on the lower level but shops that offer passage to Downtown Newark and Newark Penn. There is a parking garage just outside of the building that I find handy in my visits here.

If you are traveling into Newark Penn Station, you can get to Mulberry Street (one block from Broad Street) through Gateway's skyway. On your way, you can get a coffee or a quick grab-and-go snack at one of the shops inside. There are two Dunkin' Donuts, two Subways, and a few non-big-chain eateries (Nagoyaka, City Beans, COTIDIANO, Metro Café, etc.). There are also a few convenience stores, a New York Sports Club, and the Gateway Project Spaces. You can also enter the Hilton Gateway from inside Gateway Center. Gateway is comprised of four corporate buildings (1, 2, 3, and 4 Gateway). Midday, office workers will flood the skyway getting lunch or heading outside during their break. On a Devils night, many fans use the Gateway to get to Prudential Center, which is on Mulberry Street. Again, the best thing about Gateway is its convenience. My only forewarning is - during off-peak times of the day - be alert. While there is security during the work week, security presence isn't as visible during the weekend. I had a bad experience where a homeless man grabbed my arm when I wouldn't give him money, and no one was around to help me. This isn't a common occurrence, but just be careful.

I used to love coming to CVS because I genuinely find it fun to shop for toiletries. However, later…read morein life I discovered that CVS prices are super steep compared to Target and Walmart. They use a high/low pricing model so you should really only shop here if the specific items you want are on sale or if you are using coupons. We are all familiar with the running jokes about how ridiculously long CVS receipts are but seriously, don't sleep on the coupons! Yes, it's annoying to keep track of them and to have to use them for very specific brands or categories of items, but a deal is a deal! I have no shame checking out, getting a receipt with coupons, and turning right back around to buy the items with the coupons I just earned. I came to this particular location because, you guessed it, my boyfriend had Extra Care Bucks coupons. It's a pretty large store so I believe they have a good selection of products, however, I spent most of my time in the snack and food aisles so I can't say for certain. They have a decent sized parking lot so you won't have an issue finding a spot. I noted a sign outside that said they offer flu and COVID-19 vaccines. Initially some of our coupons didn't work because we used the wrong CVS card number. The cashier was a bit uncertain at first but he eventually sorted everything out. He ended up having to re-scan all of our items which I'm sure he found annoying but he was still pretty patient and friendly. Can't expect much more from your neighborhood convenience store.
