WOW. This was one of the best meals I've had in a long, long time. The space is gorgeous, the staff…read moreis very competent and friendly, and best of all, the food is terrific. We only tried their breakfast, but the prepared goods looked delicious as well. They don't have English menus, but much of the staff speaks English so there are no problems there. I had the Landstrasser and the boyfriend had the Prince Harry's Favorite. Landstrasser: this came with a variety of things: different breads, one of them was a lavender rye bread really delicious apricot jam honey butter soft boiled egg rye "soldiers" to dip in the egg cottage cheese with the most delicious olive oil and pesto carrot/radish/cucumbers to dip in the cottage cheese homemade potato chips Prince Harry: A mini pastrami sandwich on a kaiser roll steak tartare a savory french toast with green beans marinated tomatoes EVERYTHING WAS GREAT. My favorite was the apricot jam spread on anything, but truly all the ingredients were spectacular and prepared with great care. The boyfriend kept raving about the pastrami for hours after our meal. And it was incredible. I've never tasted anything quite like it in a really good way. The meat was nicely spiced and had a very smoky taste. We're only in Vienna for a few days, but I think we'll stop for another visit! EDIT: We definitely did stop in for another visit and it was equally delicious as the first. I tried a green smoothie this time, which was fantastic. Also, the croque madame sandwich. The croissant was perfection and it was really filling, but not overly heavy. A perfect meal in Vienna!

Mostly a take-away operation across 70+ stores, the promise of fresh bakes and a lack of leavening agents part of the business since day one, it is upon entry that one will notice an abundance of options including several organic choices displayed across racks and cases. Low-priced compared to more artisan competitors, many Pastries available under €2, Ströck's Baguette is predicably less intricate than what one might find at Josef or Öfferl, the addition of Pork and Cheese making up some ground while an Almond Croissant was unfortunately build on Frangipane and immediately flaccid. Much improved in the Marmelcroissant with Apricot Jam, though Pastry layers are still poorly separated, look to the Birnen Tarte Bourdaloue for something classic and delicious as cooked Apples settle into a delicate base with Sugar and Nuts.

Also the women working at this location could have been nicer. Strock is huge chain yet they were scolding a tourist for taking pictures of the display case even though she had ordered already. This place is not an award winning independent bakery by any means.

All were very good especially the poppyseed and salt covered cheese sandwich. The waitress was very accommodating. We took photos of the food from the takeout section of the glass display which were not on the menu and she obtained them for us. Things were a little confusing for us Americans. We ordered from near the glass display at the front of the store and before we paid, we mentioned that we wanted to take the food to the tables in the back room but were told we needed to order from table service if we wanted a table there. We apologized and left and went to the back and waited quite Ll a while for a table to open up. While waiting, we noticed that there were tables outside that were for people ordering take out. We recommend doing the latter. Both the take out area and inside seating areas were well lit and had large picture windows.

I bought a loaf and immediately started tearing into it...without even cutting it. (To ensure you that I am not a savage, I was traveling and did not have a bread knife.) I like the bread's thick crust and soft interior. It is good with butter, jam, or even just plain. I have tried a few pastries here (poppyseed pastry, cheese Danish) and they are good, but I still prefer their breads over their pastries. Pastries are easier to eat without a bread knife though!
