WOW. This was one of the best meals I've had in a long, long time. The space is gorgeous, the staff is very competent and friendly, and best of all, the food is terrific. We only tried their breakfast, but the prepared goods looked delicious as well. They don't have English menus, but much of the staff speaks English so there are no problems there. I had the Landstrasser and the boyfriend had the Prince Harry's Favorite. Landstrasser: this came with a variety of things: different breads, one of them was a lavender rye bread really delicious apricot jam honey butter soft boiled egg rye "soldiers" to dip in the egg cottage cheese with the most delicious olive oil and pesto carrot/radish/cucumbers to dip in the cottage cheese homemade potato chips Prince Harry: A mini pastrami sandwich on a kaiser roll steak tartare a savory french toast with green beans marinated tomatoes EVERYTHING WAS GREAT. My favorite was the apricot jam spread on anything, but truly all the ingredients were spectacular and prepared with great care. The boyfriend kept raving about the pastrami for hours after our meal. And it was incredible. I've never tasted anything quite like it in a really good way. The meat was nicely spiced and had a very smoky taste. We're only in Vienna for a few days, but I think we'll stop for another visit! EDIT: We definitely did stop in for another visit and it was equally delicious as the first. I tried a green smoothie this time, which was fantastic. Also, the croque madame sandwich. The croissant was perfection and it was really filling, but not overly heavy. The best bakery (for bread) in Vienna. Super-high quality and insane flavor and texture. Even if you don't make this place your daily bread shop, at least stop in for a freshly baked breadstick if you're nearby. The staff are always friendly and any queue of customers that may have formed will rapidly dissolve as each person leaves with some amazing bread and a big smile on their face! Their breads are a little more expensive than other bakeries (hence not your daily bread spot), but the quality you get for that more than makes up for it! read more

Excellent little bakery right in the middle of Vienna's 1st district. I am a big fan of their pastries, which are top notch. I would especially recommend Mohn and Nusskipferl (pastry stuffed with poppy seeds or walnut) are sweet, soft and melt in your mouth. Overall, likely the best pastries in the city and beyond. As far as their bread is concerned, if you like rye breads, it is top quality. I prefer the buns over their breads - rolls, crescents, etc. The only breads that I wouldn't recommend are the ones with non-Austrian names - particularly baguettes and ciabattas. I am on a mission to find a half-way decent baguette in Vienna and I still am unsuccessful. Joseph Brot is no exception, baguettes and ciabattas are that in name only and same goes for croissants. The point is - stick to what Austrians do well - Austrian pastries, rolls and rye breads. read more

I think of this place just to get a the faint ghost of a taste of the multigrain bread in their glorious spinach and egg toast. Full disclosure - I usually don't even order spinach toast. I'm an unhealthy carnivorous breakfast kind of person. But we still went to this organic cafe twice in our three day trip to Vienna. Wallet to Taste Ratio: Breakfast dishes range from 6,70 to ~15,00 EUR. And every one of them are so worth it. Ambiance: Bright and minimalist. Everything in the cafe is white and clean - the windows open to sidewalk seating in good weather. Be sure to make a round into the cafe/store. Everything looks sumptuous! Food: Organic, simple, masterful. For my first breakfast, I ordered the second classic Viennese breakfast on the menu consisting of bread (3 rolls and 3 slices), honey and marmalade to dip, vegetable sticks, and pesto(?) cottage cheese. I don't normally even like cottage cheese but still found this combination to be highly enjoyable. For my the second breakfast, I ordered spinach and egg toast. Completely uncharacteristic for my carnivorous self and completely mindblowing and memorable. Flavorful multigrain bread topped with slightly steamed greens and an expertly poached egg with a soft and bright orange yolk. New York needs a place like Joseph Brot. I've never seen simple and organic done perfectly. read more

My son and I have been eating a lot on our vacation so we felt like a light lunch and were interested in bread so I did a look up for bread and this place came up with great reviews. My son got an apple strudel a poppy seed roll and a beet juice and I got two sesame seed rolls. All were amazing and the wait staff were so nice. We hope to be back for breakfast. read more

The quality of the breads and all baked goods is excellent, as is the coffee. The problem: terrible understaffing leading to long waits and hopelessly overtaxed servers. Waiting over half an hour for your morning coffee greatly detracts from the breakfast experience. Accompanying jams are superb, less satisfying the heap of raw vegetables served with one breakfast choice. The bright and very loud space looks inviting, actual comfort is less so. The quality is high in all of their bread and the assorted products offered for sale here. A fantastic bakery in a land of great baked products. I got many more bakery items than I normally would in a week. All were special. The butter bun with cinnamon was still warm... and qualifies as one of the best things I've ever tasted. Not too sweet. Perfect texture and flavor led to a combination of euphoria and disbelief.
