My husband and I visited during a recent trip to the city, and without question, it was the best meal we had -- and honestly, one of the most memorable dining experiences of our lives. From the moment you walk through the door, the space wraps you in warmth. The atmosphere is inviting, the decor puts you instantly at ease, and the staff greet you with the kind of genuine kindness that's increasingly rare. But it's Abhi and Renata (apologies if I've misspelled either name!) who truly make this place something extraordinary. These two are the heart and soul of Tula, and their passion for what they do radiates through every single aspect of the experience. We spent a few wonderful hours there, and I mean that -- the time just melted away. Renata sang for the entire restaurant, and her voice was absolutely stunning, a spontaneous and beautiful gift to everyone in the room. Abhi, in the most generous gesture, sat down and hand-wrote a list of vegan restaurant recommendations from around the globe for us to take home. These are people who love what they do and love the people they do it for. And then there's the food. Oh, the food. We started with an Indian taco special that set the tone perfectly, then moved on to the Tofu Achari Masala curry with chapati and the Dal Sambar with steamed rice -- both absolutely spectacular. I had the fortune to get there early (and discovered it fills up quickly), and my server explained in detail many of the dishes. I started with a fusion appetizer of a spring roll packed with shredded mushrooms and kale, accompanied by a luscious peanut ginger sauce. Absolutely delicious. I followed up with "Grandma's coconut curry," the texture was silky smooth with the warm spices that hit a soul spot within me. For a night of pure culinary delight, Tula is worth your time. This has got to be the best service we have had in canada and some phenomenal food as well. Abhi is extremely friendly, good with recommendations, and is super easy to talk to. He also was able to juggle holding a conversation with us while helping people when they needed it. Most people's recomendations at other restraunts usually seem half hearted but his seemed strong and genuine. We got the fried rice and grandma's curry. Im.not usually a curry person but this was great. It had a mix of strong flavors that worked well together like the sweetness of the palmigranite seeds or the slow cooked chickpeas. For the fried rice it was super savory and worked really well with the sauce and vegan chicken. We were full from the first meal so we had to store the rest for later. He said it was wven better the next day and I actually might think he was right. The next day we came back for the sampler platter. Each one was pretty good on its own and our favorite was the tofu butter Masala. Even though the sampler platter was good the first two meals were our favorite. Tula is a vegetarian/vegan/gluten free paradise for Indian food lovers. The owner is very lovely and personable, and if it's your first time, he will explain the menu in detail. I ordered the mango lassi, butter chicken, chapati and shared the panna cotta dessert. The mango lassi was divine! The butter chicken did indeed taste like real chicken, and is very mild. The panna cotta is beautifully decorated with edible flowers. I want to come back to try their famous thali dish, which is only offered at lunch, and comes with an assortment of various dishes in beautiful presenting bowls. Amazing food, everything I have tried has been AMAZING! As a non-vegan who enjoys eating more plant-based but does eat meat sometimes, I can say that Tula toes the line perfectly between highlighting the vegetables while also providing options that really do mimic the meat versions (the vegan chicken tastes identical to real chicken, it is amazing in their delicious biryani). The desserts are also delicious and never too sweet, and their rotating specials menu is always new and exciting when I come in. This is a newish vegan Indian spot that opened up just 8 months ago (Feb 2023). You're greeted with the fragrance of burning incense when stepping in. You can tell that a lot of heart and intention was put into the decor which is welcoming and visually appealing. My friend was recommended the thali plate by the server and it's a generous portion for lunch. I went with the butter chicken which is one of the non spicy options on the menu. For a vegan butter chicken, I think it did quite well! I liked the chewy texture of the chicken substitute and the sauce was sweet and not spicy. It was enough sauce to go with all the rice and the chapati. The salad had a tiny bit of spiciness but just right for me. The thali plate offered an assortment of Dahl, tofu curry, potatoes, a mango dessert, salad, chapati, and cabbage with rice and a crispy papadum. An extra special touch was that the owner came out to greet each of the tables and he asked about our experience and graciously welcomed us to come again. read more

Tula is a rare gem! I wish we had a plant base Indian restaurant like Tula in Salt Lake City, Utah. We were in Montreal 6 days and I ate here 3 lunches. It is absolutely delicious and healthy. Finding a restaurant where the owner cares about his patrons is rare. Abhi (I hope i got the owners name right) is so kind and goes out of his way to explain the dishes and makes you feel very welcome. The first day I ordered Lentil Idis with Samba and Chutney. My husband had the Brunch Platter. Everything was amazing and different than any Indian restaurant we had been before. I went back a few days later and had Grandma's Special Coconut Curry with Veggies and the GF Chapati. The curry was loaded with yummy veggies. My husband and I had such a great time at Tala. The masala was delicious, full of flavor yet somehow felt so light. The real star was the mango lassi with rum. I love Indian cuisine (at least what passes for it in North American restaurants it turns out) and my first experience dining at Tula last night shows me just how much I've been missing. I was blown away by the combination of flavours in every dish I tried, from the salad to the General Tso and everything in-between. How do they get so many flavours to be at once subtle /and/ pronounced in such harmony without becoming overpowering?! The server (whose name I forget but I think is an/the owner?) was friendly, helpful, patient, and genuinely proud of his menu (for good reason). My trio simply ordered what he recommended and we were very happy with everything. My one disappointment was the limit to my own capacity as there were other dishes at the table that looked delicious but I was beyond stuffed. My next Indian meal will be at Tula. read more

Having tried their food before as delivery, I wanted to get a feel of the restaurant too. It was a small place but it had a welcoming feeling to it, from the faux plant decorations and dim light ambience, soft music... There's still some maturing to be done. The owner was sort of running around trying a bit too much to sell the concept to people, enumerating every item in the menu and being sort of all over the place. That's really my only complaint. The food was delicious although next time I will go with the non-faux meats and opt for simple proteins like tofu, and jackfruit which would work best with Indian dishes. read more

Tula is a lovely new vegan Indian place in Mile End. The food is delicious, and the menu features some home-style curries that aren't typically featured at other places around. I have the impression they do a lot of take-out business, but the restaurant is a very calm place. The owner is very enthusiastic and friendly. I highly recommend their biriyani, the black chickpea ghassi, and the elaneer payasam. I'm sure we will be back there soon! read more

We walked 4.4 miles round trip to eat here and our high expectations were met. The restaurant itself is very cozy and nicely decorated. Do yourself a favor and order the mango lassi. We love Indian food and eat it often, but it's challenging to find vegan versions of classics like mango lassi. Here we enjoyed lassis and butter "chicken", chickpeas, and chapati but the star of the meal was rose pana cotta. It was extraordinary. I also had a hot ginger drink that was amazing. Very cozy restaurant. The mango lassi was superb, way better than any other vegan lassi I have tried before. We had the butter chicken, which was soft and yummy. We shared the mains on our respective lunch platters (" Curry Bento ") and it'll be hard to not to order the same choices when we return. Scrumptious and beautfully presented mains -- Lasooni Dhaniya Tofu + Grandma's Special Coconut Curry (we opted for it with the mixed vegetables), and the bento included wholewheat chapati, rice and a spendid and original salad, replete with edible flowers and tiny white mung beans.
