First time here at the Tula Market. For our Labor Day family gathering I wanted to do a taco bar so I was on the hunt for some tasty marinated meats. I picked up some carne asada and Al Pastor and both were tasty. My group liked the carne asada the best. Their carne asada is pricey here compared to our local market, at our our local grocery store the carne asada was priced at $8.99 lb and here for flap meat ranchero carne asada it was $15.97 lb (wow!). Their price tags were not aligned correctly at the meat counter so it was a bit confusing on how much you were actually paying for the meat. I also picked up a pack of freshly made corn tortillas which was still warm since it is made daily. Keep in mind the employees do not speak English here so if you have questions it can be a little difficult to communicate. I would like to come back to try their hot food based on some of the reviews I've read. My overall rating is a 3.5. read more

This has become our favorite place to go to get Mexican food. It is small market that has a small kitchen that sells really good Mexican food. The market has butcher/deli counter and a small amount of produce. We got the potato tacos, chicken quesadilla, and borrego tacos. They are all so good. Meat is always juicy and potatoes are cooked to perfection. Salsa is not that spicy. This is a small little market with real Mexican food in south county! My coworkers love coming here when we are in the mood for good tasting authentic Mexican food. I've tried their asada tacos and they are delicious and they come with an enormous portion of meat. This last time I decided to try a torta with asada and it was so good!! My coworkers both said they liked their carnitas! Honestly it's worth checking out because they truly serve good food and make their tortillas in house! Tula has 'Market' in its name but a good number of people, myself included, comes here to buy ready-to-eat authentic Mexican food. Be sure to take a number if you are here to buy food then wait for your number being called. There is no place to eat inside the market but there are several tables and chairs just outside the doors. From my experience, it's a 50-50 chance whether the person behind the counter can speak English or not, so today I had to use the point method to order. Truth be told, I suspect her English is better than my Spanish, just saying. My favorite item here is chicharron salsa ranchers. But they have pozole and other guisados (soups) and menudo on weekends, plus tacos, burritos, tortas, quesadillas, and combo plates too. It does have specials of the day Mondays through Fridays so look them over. Today I discovered there is another Tula (#1) at the corner of El Toro & Muirlands, which is closer to me. This market has gone down hill over the years!!!! People STOP spending your hard earned money here!!! The prices are a rip off price gouging at its finest. BEWARE **** The place is very unsanitary!! They literally have flies hovering over the food, some of the cooked meals are uncovered, they use plastic chopping boards that look so worn out most likely releasing plastic particles into food with every use, they reuse the same chopping board for pork, chicken, or whatever they are prepping which is cross contamination, which may cause multiple health issues. All this is happening literally in the front. Imagine how dirty the back is. When I expressed my concern with cashier she was very indifferent, dry, and did not care she asked me to step aside and wait to speak to a manager, the manager never came out to talk to me I wasted time waiting. This market is located in Lake Forest and there's plenty of parking in this plaza. I like to come here and get their freshly made tacos. The recent ones that I purchased was their beef, carne asada, chicken, and chicharron taco. All were quite delicious and large portions. However, each taco is now around $4. They also have freshly squeezed pineapple or watermelon juice for purchase and costs around $5. This is a very small market with a lot of things happening at the same time. There is fresh deli section, produce section, and of course fresh tortilla making section. Staff is friendly but doesn't speak as much English.
