Honestly, it's a cute little spot. And the food was great! The service was top notch. We went on a taco Tuesday, but definitely one of the better taco Tuesday spots I've been too. The Birria consume was sooooooooo flavorful and perfect consistency. Seriously would love to come back easily. The service was so top notch. They were seriously on point. Loved it.

Made a reservation with Google assist and table was ready for us when arrived. Service was good and the server made good recommendations. We tried 2 new things - the sweet plantain empanada and the avocado cheesecake - Interesting flavors. Chicken enchiladas and margaritas were good.

Food is outrageously good, the service is friendly and knowledgeable and the ambiance is unpretentious. This eatery has been in this location for over 20 years. And in those years the food has remained remarkably good. Not your typical TexMex restaraunt, this is a truly authentic Mexican restaurant with traditional dishes. Always worth the drive for their food. Worth the try, and yes think outside the your comfort zone and try something new. You will be surprised how god it is!

Sope (Chorizo)

\When it comes to critiquing something authentic, I often struggle. I want to give an unbiased perspective and not talk unnecessary smack about another culture's cuisine. Perhaps the best way to describe the food here is it seems to be more what you'd eat in a Mexican home than a Mexican restaurant (but what do I know?) It was a close one between three and four stars, but I granted the fourth due to the desserts, value for money, and benefit-of-the-doubt pursuant the above. I ordered a Sope with Chorizo, Tacos de Birria, and an Impossible and Cafe de Olla for dessert. Sope was very pleasant, but nothing to write home about. The ingredients were in balance and fresh. The chorizo was alright, though I would have liked just a little more flavor-fireworks. To their credit, they provide two house-made hot sauces on the side, and at least one of these things is FIRE! The Tacos echoed the impression I got from the Sope. These were tortillas with cheese and protein, which you could add veggies to or dip into the consommé at your discretion. Customizing is fun and all, but again, it lacks those fireworks amazingly seasoned food has. The impossible cake was delicious, as was the Cafe de Olla. If you've never had the latter, absolutely get it! Try not to burn your tastebuds off too much with the hot sauces, or hot coffee will be a little painful to consume.

This soup is amazing! Order it!

We don't often eat grasshoppers, but when we do, they are from Tú y Yo in Powder House Square. Also, my first time trying cuitlacoche (Mexican truffle also known as corn smut, an edible fungus, considered a delicacy) which was stuffed inside the mini cheese quesadilla. It was quite tasty! Great food, décor and service!

2 Carne Asada Tacos and 2 Pescado Tacos w/ Horchata drink

Service was pretty slow especially for how empty the place was when we got there. The decorations and overall ambiance was nice , but I there were warmer lights to have a bit of a cozier vibe. The employees were really nice and also helped us decide! The tacos were great and the green and red sauce that we asked to put on them were also very flavorful with a good level of spice! I loved the fish tacos and the chipotle sauce and other toppings on it. Made for a really flavorful bite. The Horchata drink was really good! Could have had a bit more cinnamon, but I still enjoyed it a lot. The Carmel filled Churros were really nice too, although there definitely should have been more for the price. 4 small little things. Overall the place was good, but the price was expensive. $3 to $5 dollars per taco is on the really steep side for tacos for me especially when I've had comparable for a bit more affordable prices. If you're going for tacos alone, 4 wasn't enough for me and I had to order 4 more and was still hungry again not too long after so it really adds up quickly.

Full trays of TACOS CARNITAS and TACOS POLLO

What a great catering order!! I ordered this via ezCater for a team event for work. I was super worried about meeting all the diet accommodations and left quite a few special instructions. But, everything came as requested! I ordered 2 full trays of tacos (chicken and carnitas), half tray of beans, half tray of rice, and a small order of chips and guacamole. The tacos arrived pre-filled with meat in corn tortillas nicely lined up. They also provided a red and green salsa in bottles (much better than spooning from a container!), limes, onion, and cilantro. The ingredients were fresh! The team really enjoyed the food. They also went an extra step and packaged 2 tacos separately that I required for a vegetarian option. Plus, they were super nice on the phone when I asked about food allergies and specifics on how things would arrive. Tip: 24 tacos in a full tray and 12 tacos in a half tray. Beans and rice go far, half trays are great!

Come here for lunch. Dinner is a bit blasé. The food is very good though and in the direction of authentic Mexican food. We came here for dinner. The restaurant had dark, mood lighting. The restaurant decor was minimal and older but still festive with orange painted walls, red colored tablecloth and framed pictures. There was no music being played so if the restaurant had only a few guests, you could be eating in silence. We were greeted by a young server who seemed less engaged. I ordered: 1.) Sangria (3 stars) - Margaritas are not offered here for some reason. I think this restaurant only has a beer and wine license. 2.) Guacamole and chips (5 stars) 3.) Indio Vestido (5 stars) The guacamole here was very, very good. It was the perfect color, fresh and so creamy. This is probably one of the best guacamole I have had. The Indio Vestido was very good as well and more of an authentic dish that was intriguing and satisfying to try as well as eye pleasing to look at! All in all, even though the food was very good, the service and atmosphere was lacking. If I do come back here it will be for lunch to experience more of a lively restaurant atmosphere. But, I probably won't be back because I like margaritas with my Mexican food.

EMPANADAS DE PLATANO MACHO Y QUESO to-go

Finally tried Tu Y Yo after a few years of living in the Davis Square/Powder House area and I'm so glad I did! I haven't eaten at the restaurant yet, but have ordered takeout a couple times now. They seem to be very fast at making orders, and so far all the food my roommates and I have ordered has been very good! The tacos de birria are excellent! Very cheesy, the consommé dipping sauce is delicious too. It wasn't as oily as some birria tacos come with, which I preferred. The Empanadas de Platano Macho y Queso are pretty good, they are plantain turnovers with cheese in the middle. Mine were a little bland overall, but I still enjoyed them. I don't think I'd order them again though. The Carnitas are very good! Super flavorful, very moist and tender. The entree comes with rice and black beans, plus three tortillas (they forgot to include salsa once, which the menu said it comes with) it's very filling, I was able to have half for leftovers. You can also order the carnitas regular or spicy, I highly suggest you stick with the regular! I got the spicy once and it was a little too citrus forward in flavor for my taste. The regular is the go-to it seems from some other reviews. Overall, this is a great Mexican restaurant from what I've had so far and I can't wait to try more, and dine-in soon.

Adolfo is an amazing waiter. Try the Habiscus margarita, very refreshing. I would put this place under "traditional mexican." Very happy its right near our house we had an amazing meal.

The meat was cooked so well. Everything was so tender and juicy, and there was just so much food. I went back again this week for Mexican Independence Day, this time with my cute date. We shared the Queso con Chorizo and the Guacamole con Chicharrón. Honestly, those two things could have been dinner because the portions are so generous. Don't be fooled by the size of the queso plate. That thing is deep. Seriously, there is a LOT of queso in there. They also give you a generous amount of chicharrón with the guacamole. The chicharrón tasted warm, almost like it had just been fried, and added a really nice crunch to the guac. For a main, I had the octopus tacos, which had a lot of octopus in them. The watermelon and radish, along with the aioli, added such a nice contrast of sweet, savory, warm and cool. They were delicious. Honestly, my only problem with this place is that the food is so good and the portions are so fair that I had a hard time eating all of it. Oh well. We got to take some of it home, so I guess that's a good kind of problem. We also shared a flight of margaritas: the classic, mango, passionfruit, and watermelon. I think a flight is actually great for two people, unless you want to get crunk! The restaurant is very "instagramable" and the service was excellent. Overall, I think this is a great place for a date night with good eats and drinks!

We ordered the following: - fish tacos (3) - flavor wise this fell flat for me. No punch of seasoning to the fish personally. - Birria tacos combo - fire combo. I just love birria style tacos. Highlight for me hot and well cooked beef, tender. - Birria chimichanga (2) this is hefty, i thought this was a good chimichanga, i would probably ask for extra sauce next go around, it got a bit dry without it. - carne asada enchiladas, the lady enjoyed this, carne was moist and tender. - pork belly & yuca loved the pork belly originally thought it was more like a chicharron dish but enjoyed this style , the yuca wasn't my jam. - tajin elote (2) love tajin elotes so no complaints! - churro espresso Great spot, great service.

Although they are saucy wings, the crunchy flour batter held up well underneath. Would order again. I got the pork belly taco and the fish taco. We can't believe how perfect the Paint Burro was as the venue for our wedding reception. We rented…read moreout the whole restaurant, expecting a simple do-most-of-it-ourselves type of reception given that we weren't using a wedding planner, nor were we going crazy with big ticket wedding items like DJ, Photographer etc. We wanted the day to be special, but were willing to be creative to control the insane cost of the modern wedding. So when we approached Bridget Tivnan and her team about having our reception here, our expectations were modest to say the least. We had no idea the generosity, thoughtfulness, open mindedness, and hard work that this place was going to offer to make our day beyond special for us and our guests. A special shout out especially to Bridget and Sam who went above and beyond both leading up-to and on the day to make the event perfect. From the beginning, Bridget helped us to envision a set up that went beyond our our own plans, without going beyond our budget--allowing us to reserve the entire restaurant for our event at a reasonable price. She was incredibly accommodating and excited to make our day special, working within our parameters to ensuring we had enough space for our guests, a dance floor custom bar, and a buffet table. She and Sam, the restaurant manager, also supported a surprise musical performance I had planned for my wife, allowing us to store instruments and practice the night before. When the rehearsal ran VERY late night before the big day, Sam stayed very late with me, without complaint or pressure to wrap up and even making me a nice night cap without me asking for it, when I'm sure he was eager to get home. All this ensured we were all set for the big day. On the day of the event, the team set up speakers so we could broadcast our own Spotify playlist throughout the venue and the outdoor courtyard, which doubled as our dance floor. Sam was on hand to help trouble shoot technical issues and even offered to let us use his phone for the night at one point in case we couldn't resolve to a connectivity issue. They transformed the other rooms into a dining space and a bar area, and even created a makeshift outdoor bar. The food was phenomenal. They not only met all our menu requests but also crafted an alternative menu to accommodate numerous allergies and dietary restrictions. They even provided a special kids' menu at no extra charge, which was a huge hit with the little ones. All of our friends and relatives still talk about how much they loved all the food that day and we know many of them have been back since! Bridget, Sam and the great service people made sure we, the newlyweds, got to taste all the appetizers by bringing us a special tasting plate while we mingled with guests. They ensured we got to enjoy our meal and coordinated the cake cutting seamlessly. The attention to detail and personal touches were extraordinary. They also brought my wife and I fresh plates of dinner when they realized we had been chatting with guests throughout most of the dinner portion of the evening. The highlight of the evening was the surprise band performance, which brought the house down and filled the room with joy. None of this would have been possible without their support and flexibility and willingness to accommodate our outside the box ideas. They accommodated every request, from custom drinks at the outdoor bar to delicious mocktails for our pregnant guests. They even helped with the décor, setting up flowers and family photos, transforming the restaurant into a beautiful, intimate space. Despite being a Mexican restaurant, the atmosphere felt swanky and luxurious. We can't thank Bridget, Sam, the cooks, service folks, bartenders and the entire staff enough. They turned our wedding into an amazing event and created memories we will be able to enjoy and talk about for a long long time. If you're looking for a place that offers exceptional service, delicious food, and a team that truly cares, look no further.

But given that work was covering the tab, I was more than happy to indulge. To start off, the food was de-light-ful. For appetizers, we ordered the elotes, chips with guac and salsa, and some roasted potatoes. These were all fine--nothing particularly fancy--but I did really like the potatoes. We then ordered some drinks, which I admittedly don't remember very well... we may have partied a little too hard. Despite the hungover amnesia, though, the clear winner was the Coconut Passionfruit. If I remember correctly, it tasted almost like an alcoholic cream soda, and it was by far the table's favorite. One of my coworkers ordered it first and let us all try it, and suffice it to say, we were hooked. The whole table eventually ended up ordering a round. Now, since the tab was covered, I decided to go all out and order three fish tacos AND the Fajitas Clásicas. Was this excessive? Yes.... Did that stop me? Absolutely not. The Fajitas Clásicas were massive (easily enough food for two people!) That said, looking back, I was a little underwhelmed by the actual variety of meats. Between the steak, chicken, and shrimp, nothing really stood out. The steak was okay, the chicken was a little dry, and the shrimp... well, I gave the two pieces they gave me to my friend. I eventually turned my attention back to the fish tacos, which were thankfully very yummy and probably the better choice. Now onto dessert! If you come here for nothing else, come for either the churros or the tres leches. Some of my coworkers found the tres leches a little too sweet, but I absolutely loved how creamy and indulgent it was. The churros were also delicious. I didn't love the chocolate sauce quite as much, so I ended up dipping them into the ice cream instead, which I personally thought was much better. Suffice it to say, you really can't go wrong with either. Overall, Painted Burro pleasantly surprised me. Not everything was a standout, and I'd probably skip the fajitas next time, but the drinks, fish tacos, and especially the desserts made for a very fun meal. Would I abandon Felipe's? Lol no. But if work is paying again, you'll probably find me back here with another Coconut Passionfruit in hand.

I really need to remember to look online before choosing my order in the future (or so I thought). While the tacos still look incredible (especially the birria ones), the torta was surprisingly great as well. The sandwich is jam packed with ingredients and really well balanced. The beef was juicy and tender, and the veggies added a really nice balance of spice (jalapenos), freshness (onions, lettuce, and tomatoes), and richness (cheese and avocadoes). The refried beans were a pleasant surprise as well, adding really good moisture and flavor to the overall bite. And including avocado on the torta for no extra cost really is what put this above and beyond to a 5/5 - the avocado was ripe and had just the right amount of it to add that rich and fatty element without being too slippery and making it hard to eat. The fries, on the other hand, were a bit soggy and thick for my liking. I had seen another photo on Yelp where they looked a lot crispier and were shaped differently, so not sure if I just got unlucky, but the sandwich more than made up for the fries in this case. I really can't say enough positive things about the torta. And even though the torta was fantastic and I gave it a 5/5, I definitely want to come back for those tacos. Three tacos plus rice for $18 is a pretty great deal, and the tacos really look incredible. My partner ordered a tongue, al pastor, and fish taco and while I didn't try them, they looked and smelled incredible. We will definitely be back!
