Twelve weeks prior to walking into Superior Physique, I had changed my eating habits, started a reputable workout program at home, 5-6 days a week, with absolutely no progress to show for it. I take that back, my pants had actually began to fit me tighter than before I had started the program. Confused, frustrated and determined, I needed a change. I found Turk through Thumbtack.com. Like you, I read the reviews and took a chance. What will a consultation hurt, right? It's just a chat. Turk was professional, knowledgeable and very articulate. He took time to get to know my history, my goals and areas of opportunity. He takes something that can be scientifically complex (down right confusing), and breaks it down in easy to understand ways. I quickly learned why I wasn't seeing results and what I needed to do in order to change. My nutrition was out of balance, I was under eating and I needed to add in strength training. The first week, I thought, "Oh my goodness, I have no idea what I am doing- this is a whole new world for me. I am not in Kansas anymore." I went to two sessions that week, a nervous wreck, a little nauseated, and had no idea what to expect. I cannot remember if I walked in with a terrified look or not but Turk quickly made me feel at ease. First, we went over nutrition in detail and then onto the floor. Turk explained and demonstrated the exercises, showing what muscle groups were being triggered and what the proper form of each exercise looked and felt like (He is fantastic at educating you). The hour flew by and I didn't die! I found myself wanting more. Seventeen weeks into my journey, Turk has far exceeded my expectations. I can honestly say working out with Turk has become my favorite part of the week. I look back in amazement of how much I have progressed over the weeks. I am thrilled with my results and love watching how my body transforms from week to week. I have gone from 27% body fat down to 21%, and gained 4lbs of muscle. With Turk as my partner in crime, there is no doubt that we will achieve my goals. Not only is Turk extremely knowledgeable and efficient, he is a positive and motivating guy that pushes you to your limits. The limits you had no idea were even there. He has opened my eyes to a world I have never considered before and I love every minute of my new journey. If you are anything like me cardio is easy and comfortable. Easy and comfortable doesn't always get you the results that you want or need. If it terrifies you, it transforms you. To me this was strength training and personal trainers. I took the leap of faith and taking a chance with Turk has been the absolute, best thing I have done for myself and for my health. Thanks to Turk, I am no longer terrified, I am transforming! I cannot say enough positive things about Turk Fickling - A truly phenomenal guy that knows fitness! I have the upmost respect for Turk and highly recommend him to anyone who wants to make a positive change in his or her life! read more

Bottom Line: I highly recommend Turk. He knows fitness, and if you listen to him, follow his lead and give him everything you have on training days, you will see results. His workouts have kicked my ass, but the results are worth it. Details: My family and I are spending the summer in Portland, Oregon to escape the heat of our Dallas, TX residence. One thing we love about OR is all the outdoor activities and that it is the perfect place to stay in shape, or in our instance get in better shape. Over the last five years I put on more weight than I would like. My polo shirts moved from size L to XL and my pants grew from a comfortable 34 to a very snug 38. One of my main goals this summer was to get in better shape using a trainer. We have used trainers in the past at our more "country club" type gyms in Frisco, TX, but the results were moderate and they always seemed more focused on keeping me "comfortable" so I would be happy rather than truly pushing me to be the best version of myself I could be. I signed my wife and myself up to train with Turk three times per week while we are here over the summer. This has been one of the best decisions we have made. I am currently 3.5 weeks in. I lost 13 pounds of fat and put on 6 pounds of muscle. Turk knows his stuff. He eats, breathes and sleeps fitness as does his team. He watches our diet (even stopped by our house here in PDX to help us dial things in), holds us accountable and truly pushes us to our limit. My main goal was just to get leaner, but he has found that my flexibility sucks (it does) and he has pushed me to work on my flexibility as well. I picked Turk because he has a no nonsense, no sugar coating, you get out what you put in approach to fitness. I don't want to be pandered to, I want a knowledgeable trainer that will push me, day in and day out to be better. If this is what you want, Turk and his team is your answer. I highly recommend Turk. He knows fitness, and if you listen to him, follow his lead and give him everything you have on training days, you will see results. His workouts have kicked my ass, but the results are worth it. I feel better, stronger and more focused. I also feel more confidant knowing I can go further beyond what my perceived breaking points are. Again under the coaching of Turk, in 3.5 weeks, I have lost 13 pounds of fat and put on 6 pounds of muscle. I had to buy new pants and polo shirts as I now wear a 36 again instead of 38 and a L polo instead of a XL. I am also probably 25% better in my flexibility. I feel so much better! When you are ready to get a real coach that will truly push you to be a better version of yourself and you are ready to dig in deep to make a change in your life, Turk is your man! I am truly thankful for the results he delivered and am looking forward to what lies ahead! read more

"I first met Turk Fickling while I was doing some weighted movements to help my right shoulder recover from an injury. Without prompt, he approached and wanted to understand what my goals were. I explained the issue that I was trying to resolve. Turk spent the next 15 minutes helping me build a plan for fastest recovery and an appropriate shoulder warm-up routine. He asked me to check in with him after a couple of weeks as he wanted to verify the recovery was going the right direction. Sold After one week following the recovery and warm-up plans I knew that I had found my new trainer. Having worked with Turk nearly four months I can say that there is not one aspect of my gym work/diet program that he hasn't dramatically improved. I had extremely high expectations and he absolutely demolished them. His program and personal interaction have provided: - Reduction from 19% to 12% bodyfat (continuing to go down) - Significant increases in power associated with all lifts - Refinement in form allowing far better stimulation of target muscles - Understanding how to work muscles more intuitively (listening to the feedback) - Finding "the next gear" on intensity I have to say a bit more on intensity to provide appropriate credit. Turk took what I considered to be an excellent gym work ethic and drove it as hard as I could tolerate. In some circumstances, he went farther than I thought I could tolerate. This is the mark of an exceptional trainer, destroying the student's self-imposed limitations. Further, I trained legs with Turk. By this I mean he trained legs as well. I thought I knew intensity before I met him. I thought I learned real meaning of intensity when I was trained by him. I learned there is far more when I trained WITH him. Words don't adequately describe the session but I will try one, otherworldly. If the chance is afforded, I cannot emphasize the value of seeing the man kill it. Turk Fickling has earned the highest recommendation I can provide. He is an inspiration to be around and will discover strength and intensity where his customers believe nothing greater exists. The only downside, and it is definitely a downside, is that I had to move out of the area. He is not available where I now live. If you have read this far you needed Turk long ago. If you are sitting on the fence do not wait any longer. This guy will teach you what it feels like to really destroy it in the gym." That was almost four years ago. Guess who has moved back to Portland? Let's do this. read more

My entire life, I've been used to sashaying into any room with mega-confidence. I looked and felt at home in my body and I rocked the crap out of my whatever-I-was-feeling-that-day style; life was one big display of jazz hands. When I found out I was having a baby, naturally, I was thrilled; until the gates of Hades opened below my unsuspecting feet and all body-hell broke loose. I went from Victoria Secret to Violet Beauregarde (the blueberry version) and my self-confidence came crashing down around me. Suddenly supporting 196 lbs on my usual 130 lb frame, I barricaded myself in the house apocalypse-style, hissed and swatted at cameras and seriously considered training my dog to run errands for me. I didn't think I would ever achieve the dream body I had once had...ever...again. Then, I met Turk. Turk has not only taken me from 196 lb to 140 lb in four months, he's given me the tools to create a body that looks and feels better than my pre-preggo physique with effortless, 30-minute sessions just three times a week. And that's just the beginning of this guy's superpowers (I'll give you time to pick your jaw up off the floor). You're looking at no rookie here, I've worked with several other trainers, including master body builders, and NO ONE has ever given me the full-picture support Turk provides. He works with me on nutrition tips and strategies; he instills post-baby body confidence that actually has me excited rather than terrified at the thought of a second kid; he pumps me up to invincible, ass-kicking, name-taking, Wonder-Woman-aint-got-shit-on-me levels that keep me motivated and feeling AMAZING about myself long after the session has ended (can someone teach this stuff to my husband?). I'm greeting each day with a break-your-face smile and currently shopping for the bikini I'll be wearing to my daughter's first birthday party (that's socially acceptable, right?). I could spend the next 24 hours gushing about this service but when it comes right down to it, if you're ready to love what you see in the mirror, to feel like a smokeshow hottie in your own skin (and clothes) and to be forced into leaving your urban lifestyle and joining a nudist colony because you just look THAT damn good, Turk is your guy. read more

TLDR- TTP Training is actually legit. Turk excels in his training that is tailored for you and he breaks things down so you understand what is going on and why things work. Ryan was also an excellent trainer who pushes you and gets you to understand why each thing he has you do in your circuit helps, so you don't feel like you are just blindly trusting someone and looking like a potential fool at the gym. Both of these guys actually care, too. They don't just tell you what to do, show you, and then give you fake praise like some trainer at a major gym who just wants your money and treats you like a number that they supposedly care about, but instead Turk and Ryan actually explained things thoroughly, checked to make sure I understood everything along the way, and then created preference-based diet (something I could enjoy) with specific macros that are actually tailored to me (and he does all the math right in front of me) and then busted out a workout plan to my specific needs. I'm a guy who weighed 280 (and I have always been a big guy who thought he was doomed to forever be one), never found any solid advice anywhere that seemed to work--online is just a bunch of conflicting information because it is targeting the average person, whatever the heck that is--, and was sitting at an unbreakable plateau with the Keto diet. After my FIRST MONTH, I lost 16 pounds. The compliments I was getting... And one of the coolest parts was, after checking in with them on the 2nd month, they tracked my BMI, etc, and broke down how much of what I lost was fat and how much was muscle, and then tailored my diet needs and workout plan to fit my needs. QUARANTINE SUCKS. I was just in a groove and then this happens, gyms shut down, stuck inside, etc. So what does Turk do? He changes my macros to help me ensure I can still lose weight by making them work with a cardio based workout plan because I don't have any exercise equipment at home. Talk about getting my money worth. About time I found a trainer who is actually legit-and you bet they deserve all 5 stars for real. You will have to put the work in, no doubt, but Turk and Ryan will show you the right path that works for you to get to where you want to go. read more

I first saw Turk one day after I arrived in the United States while training with my first personal trainer. I remember him with his client taking a moment to walk up to someone on a deadlift machine and telling him "your strongest when your knees are above your feet". That was the end of our encounter till 2 months ago when I decided that I wanted to do something this year that I have never done before, my first Physique Competition. I wrote to Turk and we met for consultation. He took the time to sit me down and explain macros, kinds of foods, timings of macros, body's hormonal states and supplementation. The next day we started training and I must say I have never met a trainer who would not only train you but also explain the reason behind everything. He pushes my limits every day with every rep and every set and encourages me to give more. He knows the psyche of his clients and knows how to push their buttons to get the most output from them. Progress: In less than 1 month he successfully dropped my body fat from 15% to 12%. During this month I lost 5lbs of fat and gained 2lbs of muscle. I did my second body fat test yesterday after another month and I currently stand at 9% body fat which is incredible progress. In 60 days I lost 6% body fat (10lbs of fat) and I have grown stronger and look better than I have ever looked in my life. In a nutshell, Turk is a very knowledgeable person and is an inspiration to me. He truly cares and makes your goals his goals. He has attention to detail like I have never seen before. He can look at me and know in seconds that I have cheated a day before. He owns your progress and makes tweaks along the way to ensure you meet your fitness goals. I will continue to train with him till such time that I need to head back to India. I also strongly recommend that you reach out to him and let him help you become a better version of yourself today. Thanks Turk. read more

Finding the right trainer is always a challenge. Last August I walked into TTP based on recommendations from a few friends, met with Nick to have an intake conversation, and decided to give TTP a few months of my commitment to see what happened. I race bicycles and lift primarily to increase power in service of pedaling. I've lifted on my own and trained with personal trainers on and off for a few decades. But these days I'm mid-40's with a full-throttle type of corporate job, 8-10 hours of cycling workouts per week, and family obligations - so I need efficiency in the execution. TTP's approach is simple, straightforward, and effective. Master Trainer and Owner Turk Fickling is a no-BS, cut-to-the-chase type who will also make you laugh out loud even as you're heart rate skyrockets. He pulls no punches, but he also listens intently to his clients, integrates feedback, has a deep mastery of anatomy, makes adjustments based on dynamic circumstances, keeps the energy high, and strives to fully understand all of the facets of your fitness/wellness/performance situation. I've also spent time working with Trainer Liam and the kid is incredible. Always greets me with a smile and great energy, keeps workout plans fresh and challenging, pushes me to go a little harder than I think I can, and integrates lots of fun movements, including boxing (he didn't even mind when I accidentally tagged his jaw :) ) Liam is dogged about correcting form and getting the most out of every single contraction. The gym in general falls into the "everything you need and nothing you don't" category. Simple, well-designed, good vibes, friendly staff, friendly members, a good variety of music. You can also order pre-made meals from TTP and they're great for weeks when life is just getting bananas and you want to take "meal prep" off your long to-do list. Can't recommend this place enough. Train with Liam, you won't regret it! read more

Turk Fickling landed in my lap when I went onto "Thumbtack" looking for a quality trainer. I had multiple offers reaching out to me. All of them offered to meet me at my residence with their equipment. The only challenge was, they were not exactly what I was looking for. I was already eating clean and running maybe 3-4days a week. I don't think I had even bothered with any other equipment except for weights. But I knew I wasn't using them correctly. I knew Turk was different because he asked me, "How serious are you about training on a scale of 1-10?" I told him I was at an 8. I was looking for grounding in my workouts and had hit a wall. I wasn't losing weight. I wanted to be healthy. In really good shape. He took a while to respond and I am guessing (knowing him now) it's because he wanted to be sure I was really serious and ready for what he was offering. So I researched him online. Which I also encourage you to do as well. Turk knows training as he used to body build as well. He is honest and gentle at the same time. In the first month I lost 15lbs!! Which is just how my body handles a good nutritional guideline and exercise. I also did everything he told me to, which is why I hired him as my trainer. I am now down 25lbs after 4 months and now getting ready to train for my first competition. I have learned an incredible amount of information from Turk. He is honestly the one thing I look forward to every week! My time with him, is my time to love myself. He is supportive and encouraging and answers all my questions without hesitation. If there is something he is unsure of, he always gets back to me. I trust this man with my health goals and I get results. If that's what you're looking for, you will definitely get that here. read more

Over the past 5 years, I've been though lots of stressful life events. A cancer diagnosis. A divorce. I started a new business and built it into a thriving business while working a full-time corporate job and co-parenting two young daughters. I bought a new house. I took the leap and left corporate America to work for myself. And recently, I launched another new business. It's been amazing and hard, to say the least. My health and fitness took a major back seat, for a long time. I used to believe you can have it all. I still believe that, but I have released the pressure I put on myself to have it all, all the time. My priorities over those 5 years were to accomplish what I did. But as I moved into a space of healing, self-acceptance and love through personal growth and my priorities have shifted again, I noticed I wasn't feeling as good about myself as I could. I wasn't feeling as healthy as I could. I wasn't feeling as secure in myself as I could. I couldn't answer, with a yes, the question, "are you taking care of YOURSELF the best that YOU can?" I made the decision to change my answer to a YES and make my health and fitness a priority. For the past five months, I've been working (my butt off) with Turk at TTP Personal Training, including personal training and a nutrition plan. I've lost almost 30lbs of fat and gained 12 lbs of lean mass! The transformation has been amazing! The 1:1 coaching of a personal trainer has been a huge blessing and an incredible experience. It's an investment, but it's been worth every penny. Turk has been awesome to work with! He's helped me at every stage along the way and given me the coaching and tips to navigate this journey. I wouldn't have been successful as I have been without this guidance and support! read more

Last month, I reached out to Turk (aka TPP Personal Training) for a diet plan. My goal was to drop body fat without losing muscle. We set up an appointment to discuss my goals and I decided to purchase a nutrition plan and begin personal training once per week to help guide/monitor my progress and update the nutrition plan over time. In addition to the one personal training session per week, I committed to training 4 additional days per week. In the following 4 weeks I followed the diet and exercise plan and my body composition has changed tremendously. * Starting weigh was 239.5lbs at 16.2% body fat * After 1 month (which included a week of less than great eating while on vacation), my weight dropped to 233 at 12.7% body fat Most would be excited with a 6.5 lb weight loss; however, the more exciting part has been the change in my body composition. The change represented a loss of 9lbs of body fat and a gain of more than 3 lbs of lean body mass. It is commonly said that it is not possible to gain lean body mass while cutting fat, but that is simply not true for most people that do not already have very low bodyfat. I expected this change to take twice as long as it has. I am excited to continue working with Turk and achieve my ultimate fitness goals. For anyone looking for THE BEST personal trainer in the area who is also a lot of fun, I strongly recommend contacting Turk! read more

I cannot express enough how grateful I am for the outstanding guidance and support I received from Susy at TTP Fitness. Working with her has been a transformative experience that has truly changed my life for the better. From the very first session, it was clear that Susy was not just a personal trainer, but a dedicated mentor who genuinely cared about my progress and well-being. Over the course of six months, she helped me shed over 10 pounds, and I have never felt stronger and more confident in myself. What sets Susy apart from other trainers is her unwavering motivation and encouragement. There were days when I felt like giving up, but Susy was always there to push me forward and remind me of the progress I had already made. Her positive attitude and belief in my abilities gave me the strength to keep going, even when things got tough. Not only did Susy help me transform my physique, but she also helped me develop a healthier mindset towards fitness and self-care. She instilled in me a sense of discipline and consistency, teaching me that progress is not just about quick fixes but about building lifelong habits. Training with Susy at TTP Fitness has been nothing short of life-changing. I now feel more energetic, confident, and happier than ever before. I cannot recommend her enough to anyone looking for a personal trainer who goes above and beyond to help you achieve your goals. read more

My wife googled, "best bodybuilding trainer in Portland" and the first name that popped up was Turk Fickling. She started training with him with the goal of doing a Women's Physique Show, which she accomplished and looked awesome! At the time I was training with another trainer at a different gym. My goal was specifically weight loss. I have kidney disease and needed to lose weight to qualify for a kidney transplant. I saw the amazing results my wife was getting and so I started seeing Turk just to talk nutrition. He dialed in my diet specifically for my special needs! He is very knowledgeable about diets and reassessed my diet every few weeks so that I was eating the most food and still getting results! After working with him on my diet I switched and started training with him. His workout style is efficient with minimal wear and tear on your joints. I often had joint pain due to gout and he always worked around it - giving me a hard workout despite my limitations. I am happy to report that I lost the weight I needed and had my kidney transplant on April 4th. I worked with Turk right up until the day of surgery. My recovery was so smooth and easy and I attribute that to my strength and proper nutrition leading up to surgery! So whatever your goals are, whatever your limitations may be, Turk can get you where you want to be!! read more

Turk is an outstanding trainer because he is not only personable he is also extremely motivating. My first meeting with Turk involved discussing my goals, assessing my current fitness level, and designing a plan of attack that fit into my busy lifestyle. After my initial meeting we had monthly check in's and investigated what was working best for my body and tracked my progress. I dropped a total of 10% body fat in a little over five months and feel as if I am in the best shape of my life. Turk was extremely motivating and honest with me as far as my responsibility to work hard in the gym as well as outside maintaining a healthy diet. In the gym Turk keeps the atmosphere warm and positive while pushing you as far as he can in a safe environment. I have never been injured while on Turks watch. He is by far the most cautious and aware trainer I have had the pleasure of working with. Turk will ensure you use correct form or he makes you quit the exercise immediately. He is also extremely efficient at utilizing the time you have with him in the gym. If you are a hard working individual who is looking for an honest and comprehensive plan of attack to reach your goals, look no further then Turk. I can promise you it will be one of the best decisions you ever make. Sincerely, Tiffany MacDonald read more

I got in touch with Turk and was referred to Jaylen and could not be happier with the experience. Jaylen is a fountain of information and has helped me tremendously towards reaching my goals of gaining lean muscle weight. Not only is he knowledgeable in terms of strength training, he's able to break down the nutritional components and anatomy while challenging the way that I think about exercising and moving weight around. Jaylen really is a one stop shop in terms of learning everything you need to know about meeting your fitness goals. And if that wasn't enough, he has an abundance of resources to dig into outside of the gym including books, websites, and podcasts to help you better understand the strength training process. With all of that in mind, his price is more than reasonable as you'd have to work with a strength training coach, nutritionist, anatomy instructor, and motivational coach to get the services and information he provides. I would recommend anyone who is serious about meeting their fitness goals to get in touch with Jaylen. With his thorough, holistic approach, I truly believe he will make a big impact in this industry and now is the time to get in at the ground level before he takes off. read more

I have been training with Turk for about three months now and have had great results after trying to no avail on my own. I am sitting here typing in jeans I had not been able to pull on for a year. I never hired a personal trainer before, so this has been a new experience for me. I was a little nervous about going to a muscle gym, but I saw on the reviews that Turk works with plenty of women (I am mid-40's) so I took a chance. I could not be happier and feel like I really lucked out. Turk is very responsive and listens to what it is that you want to accomplish. He created a very doable plan for me which included explaining how to eat appropriately. I always thought that fruit and lettuce would be how to lose weight and I could not have been more wrong. I have been eating plenty of food while losing weight and fat and building lean muscle. The few times I have texted Turk with the various temptations out in the world, he has responded almost immediately with support and encouragement. If you are planning to work with a personal trainer and are serious about putting in the effort, I would give Turk 6 out of 5 stars...go for it. He is the real deal. You will not be disappointed. read more
