I started training with Melanie November of 2016. After one of previous personal trainers left…read moreBakar Fitness I tried a few people before finding Melanie. Melanie's profile caught my eye on the website of Bakar fitness. I have always been on the petite side naturally and one of my goals was to be able to gain muscle and be strong. I never thought it was possible for me to be very strong being a 5'3 and naturally skinny person. Melanie definitely proved me wrong! My proudest moment was when I was able to deadlift 185lbs (I was myself 107lbs). While the number of pounds gained/lost definitely shows progress and reflects great milestones in one's personal health journey, training with Melanie has helped me look at health beyond numbers. Training with Melanie has had cascading positive effects in my life. I have become more disciplined when it comes to my health which in turn has improved my diet, reduced my anxiety, helped with my insomnia. Melanie is definitely unique in her approach. I have had several trainers where training means 1 hour of working out with them every week. Melanie is not your average trainer. She cares deeply about her clients and goes above and beyond for them. Outside of our 1 hour of training, to give an example of how Melanie came through as a coach for me - She gave me a nutritional program and kept me accountable. I broke my wrist from a bike ride; Mel helped me train my lower body in isolation for multiple months which helped me stay healthy physically and emotionally. I also had a shoulder surgery from a sports injury. I experienced a lot of atrophy and stiffness after the surgery. Melanie has supported me over the last 2 years to build back my strength and range of motion. I can do pull ups again! I have gained a lot of strength and muscle with her programs. Melanie is not a trainer that just cares about the number of pounds dropped/gained or to just get you high numbers for squats or deadlifts. She is very cognizant of injuries, she puts a lot of focus on conditioning and stretching and taking care of your body like it is a temple. She is extremely educated about anatomy. These qualities differentiates Melanie's programs from just another personal training experience. People often think having a personal trainer is not worth the money. Why pay someone when you can google exercises/programs. Having done my share of googling programs and investing in a personal trainer like Melanie, I can definitely say I am better off with Melanie. I look at health differently now and investing in having an expert like Melanie has definitely been the right choice and the returns have been more than worth it.

She is knowledgeable, non judgmental, kind and tailors the training for me! She always takes into account my aches , pains, post surgical condition, schedule, events, nutrition - you name it - Coach Melanie has always made adjustments that help me in my journey. I am so impressed by her! I met Coach Melanie at the UCSF Bakar Fitness Center when I barely exercised after a cervical spine surgery years ago. I was having back and nerve pain and I hadn't done a triathlon or run in eons, couldn't do a push-up and didn't exercise regularly. After working with Coach Melanie I strength train consistently ( super important for us all!), completed the sprint distance Honolulu triathlon, a couple of 10k's and few metric century rides and am on my way to more! My goal is to one day complete the iron- person distance tri and if anyone can help me get there it's Coach Melanie. We talk over nutrition I even meal prep now - not something I did before. I've had a few trainers over the years but Coach Melanie is the absolute best! I also really respect her values and am impressed by her own health, wellness and fitness journey. She's a fantastic person! Start training with Coach Melanie now to progress in your journey - no matter your level. You'll not regret it

I got a personal trainer. With two little ones, I decided it's time I get healthier. But, what do I know about fitness?! From day 1 - I was put at ease by Nick. He met with me, talked to me about my goals and discussed what sort of options were available to me. He never once made me feel like it was a hard sell - more, he was here to answer my questions and encourage me. Most importantly, he assured me that this wasn't going to be something that was going to drive me away. The team was going to work with me at my pace. I decided I'd go three mornings a week - totally crazy, right?! Now, I work with Vince three early mornings a week. Vince is awesome! He's fun to work with, super knowledgeable - always taking the time to explain things to me. And, most importantly, he's encouraging. I'm nowhere NEAR as advanced as some of the people I see, but Vince makes me feel like I have a place there. Just a few months ago, I would have NEVER thought you'd EVER find me in a gym. Now, I look forward to going!

I hadn't been to a gym in more than 10 years, but have always been physically active. Jaime immediately located the source of my issues and set me on a stretching and strengthening program that has helped me relieve my pain and get me to the strongest level I've ever felt. One of the many things that I appreciate about Jaime is the way he spends the time to teach you to do your exercises the correct way. I didn't realize that all the years that I had been working out that I was doing most of the excercises wrong. Jaime does a good job of coaching you through the exercise and then correcting you when you are slipping. Once you speak to Jamie you'll realize that he has a lot of really valuable experience in training professional athletes to the 40 year old's who need to get some exercise back in their lives. No matter your condition, he'll make you a plan to get you where you want to be. Lastly, the gym is a very comfortable environment with a lot of really wonderful people focuses on bettering their condition as well and all at different stages of fitness. He usually only has 1-3 other people working out at the same time and, even with the others there, he still provides the 1-on-1 attention you need. HIGHLY recommend paying Jaime a visit @ Above the Barr.

Staff are friendly and very nice work out environments. check in is super easy and you also can shower over there after work out Cost: since I have one year base contract, it should be cost me $9.99 but I pay with credit card so I got $2 extra charge. Pay attention for incoming members: If you interested contact with them, better ask in person because website has less information and make me confused. For example, when I registered online, webpage show maintenance fee is $0 but actually that means you won't get charge now but 2 month later after you start contact. I was confused at the beginning. Also for new members, they will provide one time free personal training class All in all, good experience with Aloha Branch

The general manager Raul, I'm assuming, during my visit tried to get me to sign up with my bank account(DO NOT DO THIS. You can refute a charge from them with a credit card but you are SOL if they get your bank account info) I declined and he pushed, I declined again. After the tour, he asked me if I was interested in an appointment with a personal trainer to get a body scan/talk about my fitness goals; I was not so I declined, he pushed, I declined again, he pushed further so I agreed to the 10$ appointment. I later called to cancel this appointment because I felt badgered into saying yes. The charge is, of course, not refundable. This was odd to me because I assumed I was talking to the manger, he certainly can make an exception? Right? I had the appointment scheduled for less than 24 hours...also...it's 10$... The facilities, 3:30 on a Friday, were "okay". All but one of the stalls in the ladies bathroom were unflushed and toilet paper strewn about the floor... yuck :/ not to mention the treadmills had ground-in dirt/crumbs. Unfortunately, based on other reviews, it seems like my experience is not too far off from many others. I feel a bit "trapped" by my membership now, knowing that cancellations and refunds are probably out of the question for them. I will most likely continue to go, but if they are trying to build a community here, they are severely missing the mark. I would like to be treated like more than a checkbook to this gym. Hopefully they take these reviews seriously.

Eric is incredibly intuitive; he knows exactly how to support and advise newcomers who feel hesitant or lost. What truly touched me was his attentive and flexible approach, he treats everyone with the same level of respect and care, without any bias or discrimination. To be honest, my initial experience with other staff members like Nathan and Joel was quite disappointing. They often appeared arrogant, exhausted, and lacked the patience to listen to customer concerns. However, I believe they are just "the bad apples in the bunch." An outstanding employee like Eric is a reflection of a great leader. I have full confidence that Mr Scott, the owner, is a fair and exemplary leader who knows how to train and select top-tier talent. My family and friends all support 24 Fitness. Beyond the diverse and convenient services suitable for all ages, their commitment to customer care, turning visitors into long-term members, is impressive. Scott's center has truly mastered this. If you're still looking for a place to support your health and your loved ones, please visit 24 Fitness and ask for Eric. I'm certain you'll leave feeling as satisfied and valued as I did!
