But I was shocked when 1-1/2 hours after drop off they emailed me that I had to sign a lengthy "matted dog" disclaimer and charged me an extra $15 fee to cut her close which is the cut I always ask for! (She was not a neglected, matted dog--or she sure must have developed a lot of mats from when I brushed her in the morning till when they started grooming her.) When I was finally able to pick her up, the groomer said "the poor old lady had a really hard time because she wasn't able to stand up." I asked what she was talking about because she stands just fine! She said she kept sitting down while she was grooming her. Is my dog really the first dog they've come across that tries to sit down when you touch their butt? They charged me a $10 "senior dog fee" for that--for my SEVEN-year-old dog. Then they informed me that their policy is to REQUIRE their clients to bring their dog in for grooming every 6-8 weeks. And they also require clients to bring the dog in for a $22 nail trim every 4 weeks. I was floored. My dog has Cushing's disease and she has very fine sparse hair that grows slowly and me or my vet cut her nails. I was told I could just bring documentation that I had the vet cut her nails. Say WHAT?? It is really rare for me to ever write negative reviews, but in spite of the nice haircut, I simply cannot tolerate this type of business model that focuses on nickel and diming customers and dictates how we must use their services and when. If I'm going to have to pay over $100 to groom a small dog, then I'll want one a feel more confident in. Back on the hunt for a quality groomer.

My senior dog is very vocal when getting his nails done, and they are always very kind and patient with him, and I know he's in good hands. She always brings attention to possible concerns for me watch ie redness around penis, ear problems etc. She listens to me about health concerns ie hearing/vision, temperament ie possible biting or skittishness, how short or long to cut. I'm currently on 4 dogs needing grooming. Deb suggested I try bringing in two at a time. She followed up a few sessions later to see how it was working & whether or not I wanted to go back to bringing all 4 at once again. A few yrs ago, I had an emergency foster needing grooming. I took to Petsmart East. Worse grooming experience! I now watch through their window and watch the groomers.Not the most patient groomers-watch how they tug the leash or push down on the dogs. I found Deb based on a co-worker's recommendation after a horrible experience with now defunct groomer at Noah's Ark. The groomer shaved so close on muzzle he had razor burns! Hopefully Deb will have recommendation when she retires (which I hope is not in the near future)!!

They called and said that there was some matting under the belly and in the rear end. Gave them the "go ahead" to trim up those two areas a little more. Two hours later they called and said that he was ready for pickup. Asked us to take care of payment while they go get him and bring him out to us. When he was brought out he had been completely cut off of all his coat, except for the tip of his tail, front of his head, and paws. He was trimmed up to look like a poodle! And the bill was $40 higher then what was quoted because of a "matting fee" added to the bill. The young gal who did the job apparently had absolutely no experience in double coat dogs Would not recommend them to anyone I know.

A few nits on his belly that a good brush should have worked out. I arrived back to a fully shaven dog. It is going to be single digits next week and he has a summer cut. He's also seemed unusually stressed and anxious since we left. Still many hours later as I'm posting this. Also: - The drop-off felt a little chaotic. - Cut came to $217 (without tip), which is high. - It took close to five hours. When I arrived confused, the groomer seemed to explain that I should have expected this because she said she "might" have to cut him shorter. Any good/experienced groomer would have understood the assignment. All in all, a pretty terrible experience.
