Double scoop with lavender flavor ice cream and matcha pandan ice cream (on the bottom)
    Justina T.

Everything I wrote in my previous review is still true! This ice cream shop has mastered the art of consistency, from their fun takes (and anime-inspired puns) on the frozen dessert to their wonderful customer service and generous scoops. My favorite flavor is pandan (on rotation occasionally), but I also still love the sea salt flavor (and I only recently realized this might be a reference to the Kingdom Hearts franchise?! Which makes me love tsun even more). Ambiance is cozy and inviting (with colorful wall art and window stickers), but there aren't any tables or chairs, so your only option is to take your ice cream to go. Still, this is one of my favorite places for a sweet treat!

Non-dairy chocolate (uses oat milk) = interesting and tasty

This anime-themed dessert shop is located in a small, U-shaped plaza. After various samples, I ended up with a dairy-free chocolate that was interesting (icy yet not super creamy) but still tasty. The fruit-based sorbets probably would've been better to get during the heatwave, so I'd try one next time. They sadly ran out of the limited-time earl grey ice cream I was so excited to try. Pros: refreshing, smooth sorbets and fun-flavored ice creams; friendly service offering free samples; merch is available for anime fans Cons: small parking lot that fills up pretty quickly, so you either gotta wait until someone backs up, or go early or during non-peak times; flavors can run out, so emphasis on getting there early; tiny shop was a bit stuffy

If you've been searching for an anime themed ice cream shop serving up both ice cream and sorbets, then look no further! Service was friendly and allowed us to sample different flavors before making a final decision. I ultimately went with a single scoop of Black Butterscotch. I appreciated the large portion size and the ice cream was creamy deliciousness! FYI - an unpeeled anime sticker is attached to the end of every spoon so you might want to keep yours as a reminder of your visit.

    NEOPETS COLLAB

Stopped by for the Neopets collab and was so excited! It was like my childhood and nostalgia in one shop... mixed with ice cream! The staff member was super nice explaining all the different options that were dairy free vs with dairy, and even talked about all the different collaborations they've done before. This spot is tucked in a super random shopping center, but it's really obvious when you are turning in from the road on where it is! I ordered a dairy free lavender rose water freeze and it was so light and refreshing! Since I already followed Tsun Scoops and Neopets, I also got a free blind sticker pack. The merch is super cute too, so definitely will stop by here if I'm ever back in the Garden Grove area!

Left(Cotton candy marshmellow) Right(Sea Super Seagoi Salt Ice Cream (Sea Salt)

Love their collabs and loved the music they were playing today especially. Support Small businesses! They have two sides of flavors. Left side is Non dairy and right side is Dairy more creamy and the non dairy is more Sorbet less creamy more icy. Love the totally spies flavors. Workers are always nice and always letting me sample every flavor so I know which one I will be Satisfied walking out with. Sea Salt ice cream is to die for I almost want like a pint. Not just savory and sweet but its own delicious flavor.

    Miku's Magical Matcha

Did I drive 3+ hours just for ice cream? Yes, I did. tsun scoops is having a collaboration with Hatsune Miku so of course I had to make a visit!!! tsun scoops is tucked away in the corner of a little plaza on Brookhurst, but you can't miss its cute sign that helps it stand out. They had some special flavors for the collaboration such as Tiramiku (tiramisu), Hatsune Mintku (mint w/ blueberries), and Miku's Magical Matcha (matcha and rosewater). I ordered a chibi scoop of Miku's Magical Matcha. The ice cream was smooth and delicious! It was so nice to be among other Miku fans. The service was super sweet too! I love how this ice cream shop embraces anime and vocaloid.

I came here for the Shugo Chara x Tsun Scoops Collab and before even stepping foot into the store, I can tell how much love the staff dedicated to their store! The outside was adorned with Shugo Chara official art, along with signage inside as well. I briefly talked to the manager who served my friend and I and he was very passionate about the quality of his ice cream and how he was able to make this nostalgic Collab come alive (I grew up with this anime!). I also loved how I was able to sample every ice cream flavor from the Collab and how patient they were! The merchandise was super cute as well and I of course had to grab some merch along with the ice cream. Thank you so much Tsun Scoops for your dedication to hosting amazing collabs! I will come here again soon for the Miku Collab hehe

Somehow, it has already been a little over four years since I first stepped foot into this anime-themed ice cream shop called Tsun Scoops. As a guy who has worked in jobs that involve number-crunching for over a decade, I think there's something poetic about me writing this review four years in. To modify a catchphrase from the the popular '90s pro wrestling faction, the New World Order (nWo), "When you're Tsun Scoops, you're Tsun Scoops 4Life." In order to attain this level of commitment from a customer, I'd say a business needs to have 4 qualities: 1) Excellent Leadership 2) An Aesthetically-Pleasing Presentation 3) Elite Products 4) Staff who are All In on the mission Tsun Scoops has all these qualities in spades! At the top, you've got the owner, Huy, who is the architect of this shop! There's a saying, "Measure TWICE, cut once." Huy started this venture with a dream. He diligently envisioned all the components needed to create a successful business. Then he put that plan into action! The moment you walk into Tsun Scoops, it is as if you are entering a Utopia of anime bliss. You have original characters like the green-haired, ice cream-with-a-cherry-on-top-beanie-wearing Cream-chan, along with popular characters from various collaborations like Hatsune Miku. I apologize that I can't name all of them, but trust me, you get a good variety of characters that make you look forward to seeing how they will be presented in each new collaboration. Huy makes his ice cream from scratch, creating unique names to go along with them. As a Filipino-American, one of my favorites has always been the uwube (Ube flavor). With that flavor, I get to experience a taste that is familiar to my palette while getting back in touch with the more innocent and cutesy side of my personality. Yup, I'm not ashamed to say that, because at Tsun Scoops, "Your inner otaku is not just welcomed, it's allowed!" (Modified quote from retired Greek-Filipino pro wrestler and current actor Dave Bautista.). Other reviews would have already covered this, but the idea behind the name "Tsun" is from the anime term "tsundere" which is a compound word. "Tsun" represents the dark side of a character, while "dere" represents the affectionate side of a character. Tsun Scoops separates their ice creams with Tsun (non-dairy) flavors on the left side and Dere (dairy - it's a pun, which, as a Filipino-American, I can appreciate since we make puns all the time) flavors on the right side. My favorite thing is to get the best of both worlds by ordering a double scoop with one flavor from each side. If you really want to have the tsundere experience, select your first scoop from the Dere side and your second scoop from the Tsun side. So you'll start eating from the Tsun side and gradually unlock the Dere portion of your personality. But you know, you can do it however you want! Huy also adds limited-time unique flavors for each collaboration event. So even if you're a regular who has tried all of the usual flavors, the collabs will keep you coming back for something new! Finally, I have to give a shout out to the staff. Often times, with food service jobs, you can recognize when people are just there for a paycheck. They could care less about the business, which may detract from a customer's enjoyment of the business. But that's not the case at Tsun Scoops. The staff are All In with their commitment to their role. They serve as an extension of the owner Huy's warm and enthusiastic demeanor. Having said that, each staff member maintains their own level of individuality. So just like a good anime, you get a good mix of personalities who add to the story and enhance your enjoyment of the Tsun Scoops experience. To quote a song by the K-Pop group TWICE, Tsun Scoops is truly "One in a Million." If you love ice cream, you'll love Tsun Scoops. If you love anime, you'll love Tsun Scoops. If you love ice cream and anime, you'll be in for TWICE the fun. And if you also love TWICE, Tsun Scoops will give you the chance to find your moment to be "Like Ohh-Ahh" in a way that's genuine. And don't forget, "When you're Tsun Scoops, you're Tsun Scoops 4Life!" Enjoy the experience!

PARKING: It's a relatively medium lot but it didn't seem busy enough that it would fill up even on a good day. SEATING: No seating, but lots of standing room outside to enjoy! SERVICE: Both staff members were extremely friendly and helped talk through the flavors of the ice cream with us. They even exchanged a hoodie for me that I bought there for a collaboration with Neopets when I found a factory defect, no questions asked. FOOD: I got the mini scoop of Kougra's Orange Smash which was a flavor profile of both orange and strawberry. It kinda tasted like a Flintstones push pop! But this ice cream had just the right amount of sweetness. It was absolutely perfect. I already want to go back ASAP! OVERALL: 10/10, shop local!! Definitely was so happy to see this shop collab with Neopets, a childhood favorite. Amazing ice cream along with a great team behind them!

Came here because my friend highly recommended it, and because apparently it was anime-themed and had unique flavors. This place definitely didn't disappoint! The guy at the front was the owner of the store and was very friendly and helpful. He let us try as many flavors as we wanted, and was very passionate about all the unique ice cream flavors they had. To be honest, I tried almost half of them and they were all really good! Flavors you wouldn't find in 99% of other ice cream shops. The decor inside was also top notch. I'm an avid anime watcher myself, and I love how much attention to detail they put into designing the look of the store. I'm definitely coming back here to try more of the flavors. Would highly recommend for anyone who likes either anime or really unique ice cream shops.

Absolutely love this place! The ice cream flavors are all soo delicious and fun. I love that you can sample the flavors and love that there's non-dairy options too. This is perfect as a sweet treat! The service is also amazing as every time I come the staff makes it an easy and enjoyable experience. There isn't any seating inside or outside but I love this little shops designs and decals! They just did a collab with Paul Frank and it was so cute and fun! I'll definitely be coming back often.

Such a cute little ice cream shop! The ice cream itself is a delicious sweet treat, and even the spoons are adorable. They also feature fun ice cream flavor names, anime collabs, and merch for sale (not sure how often, though). The MC size comes with two scoops, which is perfect for sharing between two people. When I visited in the late afternoon, some of the popular flavors had almost run out. And I do wish there was some seating available, whether inside or outside. Other than that, this place is so cute, and the service was good. If you get the chance, definitely stop by! 4.5/5

Shugo Chara collab flavors: Blueberry lavender (bottom) & honey pistachio (top)
    Melinda P.

My fiancé and I came here on a Monday night. The parking was easy to find as it's in a plaza. I figured it wouldn't be too busy (cause who goes out on a Monday night lol), but we actually came in right after a big group! However, we were able to order in like 10-15 minutes. You're allowed to try samples which is really nice and the worker helping out was very sweet and fast, too. I wanted to get the limited flavors since I came for the Shugo Chara collab so I ended up getting honey pistachio & lavender blueberry. Next time, I'll probably get the sea salt ice cream!

We ordered three things; mint chocolate chip, rose, and milk and cereal. All with a bubble waffle cone. The service was disappointing, the guy who worked there seemed like he didn't care and it was just another job. No life to him and was just rude about asking the code for the bathroom. The mint and chip is basic. Nothing too much about it. My kids like it, so I got it. Average 3/5. The rose ice cream tasted like a rose, it was pretty good and very floral. The disappointing part is I was hoping the ice cream would be shaped like a rose as depicted on the picture. Nope, just a scoop and left it as is. 5/5 for taste and 0/5 for presentation. The milk and cereal one was actually pretty good. Especially with Frosted Flakes in it. It literally taste like cereal. 5/5. I would give it a higher star if the service complimented it and th presentation of the rose ice cream did.
