This review is about the space and the instructor Aras. I haven't had classes with anyone else but I can say that Aras is the instructor for you if you are looking for more than a workout. But first, about the location - working a block away, this place is a god-send. The studio is no smaller than the spaces at Equinox, and serenely decorated. I am looking forward to doing some stretches with the built-in straps they have on the walls! They have a small boutique and also offer massages (have not tried yet). For those who have to drive, I believe they offer free parking validations. Now, for Aras' class: you will get no thumping music, and though a workout, you may not walk out dripping with sweat. His approach is more holistic so you should call and find out about each class/ instructor. Namaste, holmes! Here's the deal. I not a "that" guy, with his jazz dot, short hair, worried/concerned look, stretching every 15 minutes and extoling the virtues of soy and the latest Vegan place where they make food that tastes like meat but is actually some plant who smells vaguely of patchouli. No. I like cheeseburgers, tequila, beer, comics and burritos. But I am finding I am really liking the yoga. I gotta say, it can be a great workout, it helps me relax and it's actually fun. I learned this because they opened up this yoga studio -- TruYoga--downstairs, literally downstairs from where I work, so I thought I would check it out and I gotta say...it's really awesomely dope. I have done a bit of yoga from my stressed out actor days in New York, but that was a few years ago. I go to the gym (TriFit, which I will also write a gushing review for) downstairs, so when they opened this yoga studio, I was all, "right on, let's check it out!" The good: - the staff is really nice and the teachers are fantastic. they do all kinds of different styles of yoga, from Peter's "Hatha" yoga, which is pretty crazy and all about releasing and opening up and all that, to Liz's Vinyasa flow, which is superb, she's awesome, and it's quite a workout. The other teachers are great, too--there's this guy Ben who does this "Forrest yoga" which is pretty intense. So, the people are great. - the space - it's apparently all eco friendly, from recycled ceiling panels to very nice sustainable hardwood floors. It's a very relaxing place and I have often snuck down there just to talk a bit, have some tea, and look at the stuff they have for sale in their retail area. - other stuff - they have massages there, which I have not done, but probably should try. The retail area is nice, not a TON of stuff, but it's all quite good and perfect for gifts. They have some cool mats, sure, but they also sell cool lotions and candles and other stuff. - I work there so I don't need it, but they have free valet parking, which can be useful if you are running late. The center is on Colorado and Cloverfield, in the Yahoo! Center. - you can shower and change in the studio, or you can use the TriFit facilities, which is nice Anyway, I know everyone and their llama is doing yoga these days -- my friend quips that yoga mats are the new puppies for meeting girls-- but seriously, this place is really, really nice. It's not too big and not to small, and everyone there is just cool. The classes are small (I haven't had more than 8 people) and I am just addicted. I go to Peter's at 5:45 on Monday and Liz's at 5:45 on Fridays and I feel like a champ. So, try downwarding your dog out here and see whatcha think. read more

I have been to many many yoga studios and really did not like my experience here. First off, it is in the Yahoo! Center and doesn't really have that quaint yoga studio feel I am usually going for. If you want to get a day pass you have to go to the main office which is near the gym, and then around the corner to the yoga studio, then back to the gym to get parking validated, etc. It's just a pain. It was my first time coming here so clearly I missed the memo that you need to arrive 20 minutes early to be on time. *Sorry* My schedule does not permit me to arrive that early so when I got there at 5:50PM for my 6:00PM and the class was already in the full swing of things....something was up. Clearly this was a class full of regulars. I get it. This is your studio. You do things differently here, but hey, get this. We are in Santa Monica. People want to try out your studio. Don't be a bunch of babies. The teacher talked way too much about her practice, constantly spitting out random facts about yoga. She was not very relaxing, motivating, calming, or reassuring. She only attended to a select 5 of us and pretty much ignored the rest. The studio itself was nice...hence the 2 stars. Would not go back. read more

Matt is amazing for massage therapy! I've been to him a few times now and will obviously return. He has great intuition, is very professional and has a fantastic understanding of the inner workings of the body. He's always willing and able to answer any questions I may have. I always leave feeling like new- exponentially less knotted-up and very relaxed. Best massages ever! The whole vibe is chill and welcoming from start to finish, the facilities are clean and everyone is friendly. Oh, and the tea is yummy too! Great place! read more

Truyoga is awesome! As the other reviewers stated, it's like a hidden gem. I've never been in a class with more than 15 people and I've been coming here for almost a year. It's in my office building complex and is super convenient. The prices are reasonable and the teachers are great. I usually take Ashley Albrand's level 2 flow or Sean Gray's all levels flow class. The classes during lunch time are an hour and the teachers aren't annoyed if you have to leave a few minutes early for a meeting. The staff is friendly and the space is gorgeous. Love love love the yoga classes! Lauren and Steve's classes are awesome power yoga classes and these are just some of the great options here. Overall great yoga facility! There's really a great group of people at Truyoga. Which brings me to the real reason I'm writing this review, I just got my first massage at Truyoga. My massage therapist was Deirdre and she was so amazing! I've heard great things from others but now I'm a believer! For the last 3 days I've had the worst knot in my shoulder and Deirdre worked it all out. She's patient and not to intense unless you ask. She's easy to talk to and understands the body! I came out of my massage feeling amazing like 50lbs had been lifted off my shoulders. I will definitely be going back again. TruYoga has nailed it yet again read more

I've been a member at TriFit for over a year now, and I love the facility... But TruYoga is the real reason I've been coming. I'm a big fan of Steve's vinyasa classes on Tuesday and Thursday, because he tempers the class to fit most people's abilities AND manages to provide a great workout structure at the same time. Don't come... I want to make sure I can continue to get a space in the floor ;-) That being said, I have no excuse for waiting until recently to get a massage from Deirdre. I'll be going back, and soon. She was professional, personable, funny, and her skills are magic. My fiancé turned me onto her after being relieved of immense stress... I have been really impressed with Truyoga thus far! The teachers are very knowledgeable, hands-on and helpful. The classes are never too cramped, and the times are convenient for my schedule. There are not a lot of classes, no weekend classes, and there is only one studio, so be sure to check all that out before considering classes here. I have been attending the 5:45 and 6pm classes, and they always start right on time or a few minutes after. I have had a particularly excellent time refining my practice in Emilie's class on Mondays and Wednesday. I have learned a great bunch about headstands, splits, and various versions of flows that I had not previous learned. Her method is encouraging, and easy to follow, and has allowed me to try poses I didn't even know I could do! She's really great. Parking is validated in the gym, where there are also lockers, showers etc. read more

I've tried a few different places on the Westside (Yogahop, Naam Yoga, Corepower, Spectrum etc.) and I have to say that Truyoga is my all time favorite. Truyoga is part of Trifit and if you sign up for their gym you also get access to the yoga studio. The studio/classes is what sets it apart from other gyms and justifies the ridiculously high prices. I've probably been to almost all the instructors classes at least once. My favorite would have to be Lauren (6pm MW) and Steve's (5:45 TTH) classes. The classes are challenging, but at the same time has a nice meditative aspect to it. When I first started yoga, I only cared about getting an intense physical workout. However, now I can't enjoy a class unless the instructor can find a balance between physical and mental. Lauren goes around with lavender at the end of class which I think is a great finishing touch. All the instructors (staff included) are very friendly and especially helpful during class. The studio is clean and well maintained. There is always water (usually with oranges or cucumbers in it) and this really delicious Tulsi organic tea. Yoga really helps clear your mind and constantly has you in the moment. Breathe! So... among other places, I just started working at Truyoga on the massage side! I really love working here--everyone, from the front desk to the regular yoga peeps are just SO friendly! Oh yeah--just wanted to let everyone know: when you get a massage at truyoga it automatically includes a daypass, so you can swim, get a yoga class, have a massage, use their massage-clients-only shower room, and then sauna! I mean, of course the day pass includes other things too, those are just the things that excite ME!! One of my job benefits is free yoga, so one by one I'm trying each of the teachers out! So far I've tried hip hop yoga and relaxation, polar opposites, but both were amazing! Speaking of polar opposites, my clients so far have been office/desk people with crazy shoulders and hardcore atheletes with calves like whoa, pretty different from your average "just spoil me" day spa client like Burke Williams! Had great expectations based on the website and press.It is a 100% eco in construction and focus- Located at the end of the Yahoo Complex in SaMo, it has a corporate /office complex vibe. I've been a member of TriFit for about a year now and decided to give their massage therapy a try because I've been suffering with a sore shoulder and neck, and what a great experience. Matt at Truyoga made my stressed body feel like an oasis after, no exaggeration, this is the real thing, it's for serious treatment, and if you have a neck ache, stiff muscles, whatever, this is the place to be! Matt is dedicated, highly knowledgable, and makes it all good. Going back next week and I can't wait! I had a massage last month from Deirdre at TruYoga and she does amazing work! I had a lot of upper back pain and she was able to work out my knots and loosen up my muscles within an hour. When I walked out I felt like my shoulders were 5 inches lower and totally relaxed. The massage rooms are well kept and clean. They also have a shower within the facility for massage guests to use afterwards. Another bonus is that with any massage you also get a free day pass to use at their gym a couple doors down, which also includes a sauna or you can attend a yoga class beforehand for free. Bottom line...if you are looking for a great massage you definately feel like you get your money's worth here! read more

In all honesty, I'm reluctant to give such a great review for fear the studio will get so crowded. Truyoga is an amazing studio! There is a class for all levels and all different kinds of yoga practice. I'm an Alyson Khan regular - from the bellow of our opening om, her Indian music soundtrack, her sing song jokes, and open-heartedness; she really is our favorite! And kirtan artists visit the class occasionally for an added bonus! All the teachers have great resumes - you'll find one that fits whatever your practice needs. read more

I love Truyoga! All of the teachers I have worked with are wonderful and inspiring. The studio is rarely crowded, and is a beautiful yoga space. Truyoga is in the yahoo center, and offers free parking in the garage, providing both safety and convenience for evening classes. Equipment and mats are available for loan, and the Trifit health club offers showers and changing rooms. There are morning, noontime and evening classes at various skill levels on weekdays, workshops and training on weekends. The price is about $80/month for unlimited classes, or classes can be purchased in bulk or as single sessions. read more

I would consider myself an massage aficionado, (since I have been dealing with back pain and muscle spasms ever since a spinal injury in 2008) and have had my share of all kinds of massage over the years. I take yoga classes here on my lunch break, and the new masseur, Matt, was giving out 10 min free-massages. In those 10 min, he was able to pinpoint most of my problem areas without me having to give him any direction. After one 90 min massage with Matt, the old spinal injury that 4 weeks of physical therapy did absolutely nothing for felt about 50% better. He was also able to get into other areas of my body that I had no idea were causing so much seemingly unrelated discomfort. Matt is a very talented and knowledgeable massage therapist, and I recommend him highly. read more

Truyoga is a great studio. It's small and friendly -- rarely more than 4-5 people in the classes I attend. There's a wide variety of teachers, but all of them are great in their own ways (I especially love Chani). The studio itself is eco-friendly and has a peaceful feeling with its wall of frosted windows at the back and ample props for all. There are usually candles lit, incense burning, and all the special touches that make this a haven for the local yogis who come here to de-stress and stretch away tension. The small boutique sells yoga clothes and supplies, and there's also a thriving massage business. The studio is tucked away and hard to find, but very worth it. read more

Matt is very helpful when I had the lower back pain. I broke my back from intensive lifting and frequent yoga practices. It was so serious that I wasn't able to stand still after sitting for 20 min. So I made an appointment with Matt in Truyoga. After this one hour session, my pain has been greatly eased. And within two days, I am fully recovered. To me it feels like magic! The environment is good, quite and everyone is friendly there. I strongly recommend this place! read more

They charged me 2-months fees and a U$35 annual fee AFTER I had cancelled the membership in January and refused to refund me (contrary to what I was told when I talked to the MANAGER on the phone! My first time at this studio was in 2007, but after moving out-of-state I'm thrilled to still see it around since my return move back. This place is awesome. Tea is offered after every yoga class. And I had some body-work done and I must admit that I had myself a nice little releasing cry afterward, something that for sure will have me coming back for more. I tried out Truyoga through a 2 week promotion they were advertising. Overall, I enjoyed my experience there. The facility is beautiful. The woman at the front desk was helpful and friendly. The classes were not overly crowded, which is a plus. I really liked Chani's classes because she's really attentive to each student's needs and seems to know the technical "mechanics" of body positioning, etc. which I think is really important to not injuring yourself and setting a good foundation for your practice. She's super friendly and warm as well. Ashley Albrand says some crazy sh*t but I can't deny that she is an awesome yoga teacher. I've taken classes from her at Liberation Yoga and enjoyed them as well. The woman knows what she's doing and I love that she always mixes it up. Get ready for a rigorous vinyasa flow class w/Ashley! I tried Nianna's class and didn't really like it. She wasn't hands-on enough and was just kinda teaching from afar, if that makes any sense. It was also slow and not energizing. Take this class if you want to stretch a lot. read more

I recommend Matt! Friendly and professional. He is extremely helpful when it comes to easing muscle soreness and lower back pain. With the one hour session, my lower back pain got so much better and within two days, it completely went away. I've been going to Truyoga (and Trifit) for the past month through a living social promo. I signed up for the yoga originally since I work in the building but I've really been impressed by the entirety of the gym membership so I think I'm going to sign up permanently. Anyway- back to yoga. I've been taking the lunchtime classes (Chani, Kyra, and Sean) and I've really enjoyed all of them- they all make a point to interact with everyone in the class which I personally like because I'm sure that I'd otherwise be doing all sorts of lazy/wrong positions. The yoga space is really clean, relaxing, and zen. They have complimentary hot tea and fruit infused water. The whole experience makes me feel like I'm farrr away from work even though it's only about 100 feet from my office. It's proven to be a great workout and a great break from work! read more

Not only is this my daily go-to yoga sanctuary (it's such a beautiful well-kept space), it is also my retreat when I am having the worst shoulder knots. Deirdre really knows how to work through the most uncompromising muscles! I was really impressed how she disabled the knot and subsequently the pain I was experiencing w/ them. In fact, I'm about to schedule an appointment today. The only other resolve for me aside from acupuncture is an appointment w/ Diedre!
