Bailey's teaching style is beginner-friendly for anyone who is looking to explore yoga in a beautiful setting with great music. She guides the movement first, then names the pose in English. It allows the body to learn easily, which is a great for new students. The class unfolded as one long, continuous flow that gradually built. Near the end, we were offered an optional peak pose of Birds of Paradise. The practice calls for more adherence to whatever it takes for you to unwind than the usual, but the sleeping mask, bolster, mat and two blankets really help. The beauty of the studio is extended throughout with very thoughtful and practical design, though I wish there was more of a waiting area before class starts. Attended my second class at open last night and it was not great; way over full capacity. I counted 38 people in the room. We were packed in like sardines. The person next to me's mat was less than a foot away and they constantly sweat onto my mat. Gross. Their feet were also on my mat several times. Hair on the floor, did not feel clean whatsoever. Beautiful, unique yoga studio just steps away from Venice beach. It's a small intimate studio which I love, I feel claustrophobic in a class with too many people and this studio has the perfect set up. There's typically about 16 mats in the space. They provide very high quality props, including cork yoga blocks, blankets, bolsters etc. The instructors are very kind. There are a variety of classes depending on your skill level and what kind of practice you are looking for. I do find this studio is rooted in healing and the cultural practice of yoga - not just using it as a workout class, which is something I look for. When you enter you're greeted with tea. The bathrooms have lockers and are stocked with Aesop (very luxurious touch.) I've never used the amenities like the sauna but curious to try one day. Open IS A VIBE! I've come here numerous times now over the last couple of years for breath and sound classes with various different teachers. My personal favorite is the breathwork class on the beach (you essentially walk straight out to the ocean from the studio) and you'll see the class gathering. Give yourself an additional 10 mins (on top of parking time in Venice) to check in at the studio and get out there. It's such a transformative experience to be connected with nature/the sand/the ocean during that class and then letting out a scream/release or two at the end (I always chuckle thinking all the tourists are probably walking by thinking - "she's giving cult" ). All of the teachers I've had have all been awesome in their own unique ways (stellar music mixes across the board). The breathwork class can bring up A LOT and has occasionally left me feeling gassed or a bit light headed so definitely give yourself some time to come down after the class depending on how you do. I also recommend getting there a bit early to get a good mat/get settled in. Overall my favorite breathwork class in LA and I highly recommend checking out a class or two here. read more

I came with a friend to try the breathwork / soundbath with manoj and stayed for the restorative class with rebecca. The breathwork was supported with an eye mask and blanket. We were lying down most of the class. The music was so good and the sounds of everyone breathing together is hard to put into words! Class finished with a soundbath. Really felt like a whole upper body reset! During the restorative class we used all the props and held some of the poses for 2 mins for deeper stretching. Music was really calming and chill. We left feeling very relaxed. This felt like a lower body reset! There are showers, lockers and a sauna room (that I didn't get to try this time.) Highly recommend this combo of classes. They were passive aggressive and made us feel unwelcome :( we took a breath + sound class and what disconnected me from the class was how close everyone's mat's were from each other. They pack so many spots in the one room that me and my neighbors kept tapping each other from the smallest movement which pulled us in and out of our practice. The music felt techno and clubby and not very ceremonial at times. We unfortunately didn't have a great experience but I hope others have a better experience! read more

Open is a new yoga studio in Venice that just opened in 2023. I've been here less than 5 times but it's quickly become my favorite yoga studio. The front desk staff and instructors are all kind and welcoming. The studio has an ultra-lux feel, with a beautiful aesthetic and skylight in the studio, superb sound and a cold plunge and sauna. I also really love that they provide mats, so all you need to do is show up. The workout isn't strictly yoga, which is great for me because I sometimes get bored during yoga flows. The workout at Open is a mash-up of yoga, Pilates, barre and cardio. The room is mildly heated so I'm always sweating during class. I'd recommend trying Open if you're looking for a fun workout on the west side. read more

Took an align class yesterday and the class was the perfect balance of challenging but reasonable. Definitely on the easier slide but it's lightly heated. They offer towels and mats which is nice. In addition, the sky light in the room makes it for a great ambience. They have a heated sauna and cold plunge but you are only able to use with reservations, which I wish I knew before hand because would have been interested in trying. The class does get very full and you are right next to your neighbor, so something to be aware of if you don't like that. Overall would recommend and am interested in coming back! I've only been to two classes (with Lihi and Manoj) but am already hooked. I've done breath work before but the studio, from the instructors to the playlist to actual studio and the community - all top notch. When I signed up for my recent class with Manoj, I didnt realize it was holotropic until I was already in class and I started to get a little bit of anxiety based on prior experience. But just a few minutes into the session, I realized this was different and I felt a lot more at ease. In spite of it being softer than what I knew holotropic to usually be, the experience was no less emotional and impactful. I love it so much I cant wait to try the other sessions and bring my kid and friends with me. read more

Open is absolutely incredible and I would give the studio seventeen stars if that were an option. I took part in a Move class and a Meditate class, both with founder Manoj Dias. Manoj leads from what feels like a place of deep personal experience, a vast knowledge of mindfulness, meditation and yoga traditions and practices, and one of his greatest gifts is mixing these threads, imbuing them with his own, self-aware and very warm sense of humor. Each class had it's own soundtrack, and as a person deeply involved in electronic, world, and ambient musics, I can honestly say that Manoj's musical taste is both of the highest level and absolutely perfect for the classes. The practices are fun, inclusive, and a true forum and safe space for self-exploration and mental and physical health. And about the space: it is beautiful. A huge ovular skylight lets light into the practice room, and the rest of the space is incredibly tasteful. Donald Judd-style plywood shelving, Heath tile, and warm brutalist touches. That's less brutal than it sounds. A steam sauna and cold soak are being installed as well. I left my few hours at Open feeling alive, inspired, and ready to hit Gjusta. Also, it is noteworthy that I managed to leave the Eastside at 6:15 and made it to Open for a 7am class. If you've been curious about mindfulness and yoga, or if you've been practicing on your own and wondering what it might feel like to do so with an in-person teacher and group of fellow humans, Open is without equal. read more

Beautiful, well-meaning, and yet misaligned. And mostly about appearances. I attended a few flow classes. Let me put it in context: I come from the Yogaworks community and was lucky to have attended classes with remarkable teachers. These teachers spent at least 20+ years studying movement, many from masters like Iyengar. They know how to link poses, how to bring in counterposes, and why the pose exists at all. It's choreographed. There's a thousand years of history in each movement. And we move together in at least 75% of the class. Open Studio, at least in these Flow classes I've attended, seem to be about appearances more than substance. The studio itself is built by a local architect and is absolutely gorgeous. Thank you for natural light from above. That said, there's a bottleneck at the lockers. The entry to the locker room is very narrow so attendees are forced to wait for people to grab their belonging before they can enter / exit because the locker doors make it impractical to exit. Big oversight. The class itself is a bigger issue for me. The Flow movements are anything but. It's a mixture of jumping, plyometrics, balancing movements, and some hint of Yoga. The movements don't really flow together at all and this is evidence by how much the students have to look around to see "where we are all at." It also prevents the class from ever feeling that sense of unity that arises from everyone being in sync. That is when the feeling of community truly arises. No hint of it here, as the new generation is encouraged to freelance and do their own thing... so while you may be going through your vinyasa, the person next to you may be either totally confused or totally inverted and doing a strength pose as part of their own practice. This is all fine, but it creates a feeling of hyperindividualism at the cost of "moving in unison," something that is profound like praying in unison. Why call it flow then? It's like calling Agave Syrup healthy when it's basically the same as high fructose corn syrup, just with a new name. The teacher seems confident in her mastery of these things because 20-year-olds don't call out 20-year-olds and may never have been exposed to the masters. Similar to how someone may hear Gwen Stefani sing "It's my life" and have no clue that it's a cover of a song written by an absolute genius named Mark Hollis, a perfectionist and uncompromising artist. Kind of like Iyengar. read more

Came here for a class with Sweet Life Sundays and left class wanting to take more immediately. I have always been the person to take a yoga class last on my list for exercise because of how slow it is and I like to be more up beat and burn calories. This class combined with hot yoga and some cardio gave me life. The design on the location is also beautiful with the natural light above in the classroom. If you want to go on a cooldown walk afterwards the beach is literally within steps. You do have to pay for parking which is $5 when validated by the studio. It can get a little crowded in the area since it's right by the beach. I will definitely be going more often. I found that they are in ClassPass also which I have. read more

The class has aspects of yoga but it also includes cardio, Pilates, and breath work, so it's like a hybrid of all my favorite things all paired up with an amazing playlist! I have been practicing with her through many studios and modalities over the years and she just brings such an amazing sense of community and playfulness everywhere she goes. I'll preface this by saying I was gifted credits for classes, but live in San Diego and covered my own travel expenses for the trip. I've practiced virtually with Open for a few years and attended classes at their pop up studio and have been eagerly awaiting this studio. I'm so happy to see the fruition of their goals with this gorgeous space. I attended four classes over two days. Breathe and Sound (x2) with Manoj & Lihi, Flow with Rebecca and Restore with Olivia. They spared no expense on the design of the studio and it's unlike what you'll find at chain yoga studios. In the breathwork classes where you're lying down, the speakers reverberated and enhanced the experience. Rebecca's flow class was challenging yet fun, with a dynamic dance break and Eestore with Olivia was soothing and I was surprised to see a 50/50 gender balance in the class. I can't wait to visit again and wish we had this in San Diego. Congrats to the founders and the friendly team. read more

Recently went to my first in person class with my partner and had an absolutely amazing time! The atmosphere at the studio is incredibly calming, the scents and energy you walk into beautifully set the tone for the overall experience! The unique studio style was a breath of fresh air in the health and wellness space. We did a Move class with Daphne D. who has to be one of the most energizing and amazing instructors ever! As someone who tends to do more meditation and breath work and less active flow her class was great for a first time experience! It was easy to follow along, the flow felt perfect paired with the amazing speaker system, and overall incredibly fun! (You will work up a sweat!) My experience attending Lihi Benistys breathe work class at Open has been profound and tenfold. before witnessing her teachings i can honestly say i never did breathe work properly nor got the full experience. due to her graceful guidance i am able to fully get the life changing effects of this practice. pushed to my limits i acquaintance with all of my senses -- sound, tears and self reflection in and out of body. i feel safest in her presence to release and be vulnerable.
