I took a date to Truva last week, on a quiet Wednesday night, and I was disappointed in the quality of my meal. The service was good, the place is pretty, but I was unimpressed by our meal. I want to say I called and spoke with the manager and he was very nice. He listened to my concerns and did what he could to make this right. He said he will talk to the staff involved and look at how they can do a better job. He asked me to please come again so they can do a better job. I will try Truva again. read more

The ambiance is wonderful, the service was excellent... but the food lacked seasoning. The dishes were beautifully presented - but everything needed a generous amount of salt for the flavors to come out. All the tables around us you heard the grind of the salt and pepper mills. We started with the bread they served and dip- it was good. We ordered the cheese borek ($13) it was flat- just tasted mildly of the cheese- flakey exterior. We ordered the Ribeye steak ($43) - it was presented on a cutting board and while that is aesthetic- the steak was luke warm. Ordered medium rare- it came out just past that and was very tough and chewy. The mash had no seasoning and was cold. The vegetables were cold as well. The Moussaka ($26) was ok- after a decent helping of salt on each layer. I did add a generous amount of pepper as well- that is subjective- but sadly it needed it because it just was all one note. I love moussaka, I've never had it taste just of cheese. There was so much cheese. The béchamel as listed on the menu wasn't present- just a lot of the kashkaval cheese. We ordered classic walnut baklava and what he called a Turkish dessert which was like a flan with a burned top- listed as Caramalized Pudding (Custard)- which both were delicious. Brought a large group (18 people) for lunch and was very disappointed. Truva used to be one of my favorite places (and our team's yearly place to go) but since it was sold to a private equity group, it's not as good. Even the dipping oil has changed. It used to be flavorful but now it's not. The chicken kabobs were very dry and no flavor. The meat dishes used to be so fresh and tender. Things unfortunately have changed. My best friend invited me here for dinner. She had previously eaten here before and highly recommended it. We ordered the appetizer sampler and the mixed grill for two. It was a great opportunity to try a lot of the foods that they offered first, I wanna shout out the stuffed grape leaves. I usually do not care for these, but I really loved the ones they served. I had always passed by Truva and finally stopped in with some friends. After dining in, I would say it's one of the best spots to have a fancy sit down Mediterranean meal. Its a very nice atmosphere, warm and cozy with brand new decore. The waiters are also dressed nice and provide great service. The menu is pretty big but our server made it easy to narrow down the options. The food is authentic Turkish cuisine. The food is pricey, however that is a part of the experience they are aiming for. You can tell a lot of love and fresh ingredients go into making it, so the cost is justified for fine dining. Each meal also comes with complimentary bread with oil. I love trying new kinds of foods so this was a wonderful experience! I had the Sultan's Delight which was amazingly creamy eggplant mixture with tender stewed goat on top. My Mr and I came here for a Yelp event. Loved it so much that I had to bring my best friend. This restaurant don't play. They definitely go all out for their customers. You know the saying, you get what you pay for. For this place you get that and more. You will leave happy and full. We started off with drinks. I had the Turkish red wine and my best friend got the white. It was so hard to choose so we decided to get these platters so that she can try everything. I have been to Truva a handful of times now-- both locations. Upon my first and second visits (lunch and dinner), I was blown away by the food. The bread and dipping oil is especially memorable as the oil has the most vibrant tomato flavor. My other favoriteeee item on the menu is the cheese roll borek. It's a super flaky cheese roll filled with gooey cheese and dill. Like a mozzarella stick but WAY better. Their meats are phenomenal, as are their dips!! Oh, and don't skip dessert. They make an incredible rice pudding. I recently visited for brunch and was sadly underwhelmed with the food. However, the service, parking, ease of reservation, cleanliness, etc were all great. We ordered Turkish coffee, Turkish tea, and aryan to drink. My husband didn't like his coffee very much and my tea was pretty plain, but both were a fun experience to drink as they came in gorgeous vessels and with sugar cubes. The aryan was like an unsweetened Greek yogurt drink. It was great once we added some honey. For food we got: -The everything omelet with breakfast potatoes (both had good flavor and a big portion size) -The Simit Ottoman: "Thin Turkish sesame bagel topped with sucuk, mozzarella cheese mixed greens and tomatoes." Mixed reviews from the table and myself on this one. I LOVED the sucuk (sort of like pepperoni in a skillet with oil?). I wished I could bring every dripping home to dip bread in it later. My husband, however, didn't like it. (More for me!) He was also confused that the menu said the bagel would be topped with the other ingredients, but it was just a sesame bagel (so yummy) topped with some chopped plain veggies, more plain veggies on the side, black olives on the side, and the sucuk in a skillet on the side. We wouldn't order the dish again, but I'd take ten orders of the sucuk. -The Truva breakfast plate: "Premium quality feta cheese, cecil cheese, kashkaval cheese, black and green olives, beef sausage, cheese roll borek, fresh mixed greens, sliced tomato-cucumber, honey, butter, nutella, jam, walnuts, and sun-dried apricots served with simit and homemade bread". Sounds amazing, right? I thought so too, but sadly it didn't hit the mark for me. One of the cheese was 100% plain American cheese... The olives were overly bitter and there were no green olives. The board was messy. The ratio of breads to toppings was off. The butter was just two little prepacked pads of butter. Several of the items were super tasty though and it was fun to graze for brunch! I LOVED the non-American cheeses, the salad (while looking very plain was actually delish), and the sausage. I wouldn't order it again for $30. I ordered a dill pastry, but they were out, so they brought us cheese borek instead. I wasn't mad since I love cheese borek so much. Was kind enough to ask kitchen if we could replace the bulgar with salad, as we both don't eat wheat, even though at first the waiter said I don't think so. Also, the evening ends with complimentary Turkish tea - it was such a nice surprise! Chicken Kebab - tender, juicy, flavorful, and a healthy amount was plated. My husband had the Kofta, and it was equally as delicious. To him, it was better than my dish, but he's big on red meat. Cons: Prices - Everything is $3-$5 too expensive. Cocktail prices were what I expect being at a swankier restaurant, or somewhere downtown. Though the French Martini was well done, It will not be worth that price no matter how good it is. Main dishes were also quite pricy, I'd like to see more veggies on the plate. Dessert prices were crazy! They bring out a charming dessert cart, I selected 3 *tiny* pistachio baklava puffs....it was $15!?! Needed more pistachio flavor, IMO. If you want to dine smartly at Truva, skip drinks, appetizers, and dessert, and enjoy the kebabs. They provide bread & oil, plus the aperitif of tea. Will still be a lovely meal! read more

I've been to the location at Kenwood, but wanted to try out the one in Mason. One thing that really appeals to me is that as long as you don't go on a week-end, you can have lunch with someone who might be wearing hearing aids. Even if you don't wear hearing aids, it has a quieter relaxed atmosphere. One that I prefer. I had delicious and comforting chicken soup, falafel, hummus, babaganoush and tabbouleh. All of it great! The real star for me though was dessert - baklava and rice pudding. They were both excellent and mouth-watering. One thing that really set them apart was that I had asked the waitress about the rice pudding and she looked up a Turkish version which I will try to replicate at home. It's Christmas Day and we are out of town and don't celebrate the holiday. Found Truva, read the reviews and decided to go. It was a great decision. As for the reviews that criticize the service, it was spot on tonight. My partner has a yeast allergy (I let the restaurant know when I booked)and the manager came over and explained what had yeast and what did not. The server was wonderful and explained the menu. We started with grape leaves, hummus and spinach borek. The grape leaves were amazing. The hummus was nice (we got veggies to dip) and borek was good. My doner kebab (served with rice and veggies) was exceptional. My partner's Adena kebab was nicely spiced and excellent. The dessert custard was also great. The restaurant was beautiful. My friends and I decided to go to the Truva Turkish Kitchen this evening for dinner. We knew it was a newer restaurant that we have not tried before and thought we should check it out. The hostess seated us and brought us water. We saw several servers and we waited for someone to greet us and take our drink order. We waited 10 minutes to 15 minutes. A waiter passed us by. I said "hello" and he just kept walking. We soon realized that the waiter or waiters were avoiding us. They were walking around us but no one ever came by to take our order. I thought that we were going to try the restaurant to give them some business and if we liked the food, we would have given them future business. Apparently they didnt want our business. We decided to leave and I will never go back. If anyone wants my opinion about our experience there, I will let them know. The staff is super attentive and friendly. The space is very clean and a nicer elevated vibe. I have had multiple of their lunch special items and their salads. Their food is always super tender and full of flavor. Overall, the lunch menu items are very fairly priced as well. This is a poor man's Phoenician Taverna (approx. 1 mile up the road from Truva), but at least I can say I've given it an honest shot with 4 of us having a January dinner there. Wife liked the falafels while I felt they were burned to a dark brown crisp; is that really a thing with frying falafel now? Anyway, I found the charred exterior off-putting. Menu is extremely lamb-heavy BTW. Neither of us eat lamb so also a strike against Truva. One of our friends ordered a big plate of it, thin shaved gyro style, which appeared semi-grayish and with uninspired plating. His wife got a filet steak and it arrived in 5-6 random cut chunks with a mound of white rice and grilled veggies served up on a wood platter. Again it was an unattractive presentation. The space is beautiful, it's the old Maplewood Kitchen and left relatively untouched by Truva management. Service was excellent, so I give an extra star to account for stellar waiter and fast kitchen service. It could easily be 2 stars, as I'm convinced I'll likely never stop back in for a second try. However, the very nice dining space and great service ups the rating to stars. However, I won't be back there, unless it's to try a lunch. read more
