I saw quite a few one-star reviews on this company and felt that I had to respond. I believe that…read morethere is both a cultural and language barrier at play here that is causing many of the reported issues. I called the co-owner, Ricardo, on a Monday, and he stopped by in the early evening to look at my seven 50-year old Yew Bushes that had become so overgrown that there was no saving them. I also had a small tree stump in the middle of my yard that I also wanted to be ground out. Ricardo quoted me a flat fee of $800 to cut down the yews, grind out the stumps, and also grind out the stump in the middle of my yard. He spoke English fairly well, but he did have a little trouble understanding me a couple of times. I was very specific in requesting that he grind out the stumps to a depth of at least 8 inches. His crew showed up the very next morning while I was at work and completed the job in only about 45 minutes. When I got home, I found that all the yew wood and branches had been removed, the stumps were ground out, the soil was leveled, and the yard was clear of debris. It appeared to be an excellent job. I was told that he would be by later to collect the check. When I began to dig on the side that was to become a garden, I was dismayed to see that he had only ground out two of the stumps to a depth of two inches, and two more to only about 5 inches. When he showed up that evening, I treated him with the respect that one would show a neighbor or a family member who has done you a favor... and not as a common laborer. I praised him for how quickly the job was scheduled and completed and how clean and neat they had left it. However, I then asked him to help me out and explained how I could not plant shrubs if the stumps were not ground out very deeply. I didn't threaten, yell, or get angry. I asked if he would please grind them deeper for me. Ricardo said that he would be happy to grind them deeper for me and said he was sorry for the misunderstanding. The very next day, his brother Juan showed up with the stump grinder and did an excellent job in taking the blade all the way down to the knuckle, which was even a bit over what I had asked for. There was no extra charge, and Juan completed the work quickly. Maybe I'm getting a little preachy, but people respond to how you treat them. I think we have lost a little bit of civility as a society over the last decade. I treated them with respect and was given excellent service. I was very happy with the prompt response, the results, and the price. I would use them again. Side note: They seem to be extraordinarily busy. They show up when they show up. If you need a company to be there exactly when you expect them, this company might not be for you. But if you want a quality job done for a reasonable price, R&J will give you what you need.

However, as a result…read moreof that job, multiple deep and large ruts/holes were left behind in the backyard, making it difficult and a safety hazard every time I mow or walk around back there. I specifically hired this company due to the reviews posted online, saying how their cleanup was immaculate and aside from the missing trees, the homeowners would never have known they were there. Unfortunately, I can't say the same. I also chose this company because the website said they treat every property as though it were their own. I doubt they would find the state of my backyard acceptable if it was their own property. I've gotten two estimates to fix the back yard and I've attached them to this email. One is from Reinhard's 4 Seasons, who after looking at the backyard, state that the holes/ruts are too large/deep to fix and the whole back yard needs to be replaced. That estimate is $4,521.73. The other estimate is from Reed Property Maintenance, who state that they are able to fix the holes/ruts without having to replace the entire back yard but it's still going to cost a large amount of money. That estimate is $1250.00 and they said the ruts/holes were due to the crane, skid steer and dropping large logs from a great height instead of lowering them to the ground via ropes. On the day of the tree removal, I heard several loud booms coming from the backyard and the house shook. I understand that the two large silver maples in the backyard were difficult to remove due to their size and location, but at no time during the estimate was I informed that I would need to budget an additional $1,200.00 - $4,500.00 to repair my lawn once the job was done. If I had known that, I never would have hired this company in the first place. I emailed a copy of the estimates to Mike, the owner, but never heard back. I have more trees that need to come down next year but obviously, I will choose a different company. What a shame.
