I have never had a bad experience at Trunkey Dental. I couldn't say that about any other Dental service that I have used, and there have been many in my 67 years. They were friendly the fist day and accommodating. We don't have Dental Insurance but that didn't matter to them and they took my wife and I right in. WOW!!! Gotta say how impressed I am with the office & new dentist, Dr. Logan. I had a toothache so called & was fitted in first thing in the a.m. /Needed root canal. UGH! Dr. Logan performed it right then & there with very little discomfort & explained the procedure. I had enough Novocain to get me through 1/2 the day til I could take pain meds & antibiotics. If I could give a no stars, I would. If you care about yourself at all, find somewhere else to go. I wish I had read reviews before booking my appointment with them. I went in as a new patient after one of my teeth broke off. They said I needed a root canal and crown. I asked for some type of med to lower anxiety. I was fully put out and didn't wake up until 10pm that night. No memory of the procedure. My face was very very swollen, two black eyes, and nose appeared to be broken. The site was very painful. It took me a couple weeks just to go back in to be fitted for the permanent crown. I told them what happened and they showed me the root went into the sinus cavity and attributed it to that. It never ever stopped hurting. Two more times and the last time they started blaming me. It was so traumatizing I couldn't get myself to go back. Then they email.me to say they exhausted my insurance and now I have to pay out of pocket. We'll, Im sure they did!!! But my mouth was in horrible pain and eventually it spread to my ear, cheekbones, lower jaw, neck. I couldn't smile, my head hurt. I finally went to another dentist for a 2nd opinion. I had a huge infection because the root canal wasn't sealed properly. Now, I have to go through cleaning that out and healing that severe infection. Not to mention the cost of the 2nd opinion and the endodontist that had to fix it. Trunkey was not there, in all fairness, but the guy who was should have referred me out anyway, once he saw the root formation on that tooth. So now I suffer. Improve by doing your ethical duty towards your patient. My God!!! I have really suffered and then to be blamed for it? By the way, none of the reasons you gave at your office were the reason. My first experience with Trunkey Dental was amazing. The staff made me feel right at home. My dentist of 30 years retired and I was reluctant to go anywhere else. After searching all of the Dental profiles in Bakersfield, I was compelled to choose Trunkey. Must have been Devine intervention. The process from the first call to schedule my appointment was highly professional. I observed the entire team during my visit and they all appear to be very professional and happy! I saw Dr. Trunkey's associate and I felt that she was honest and also extremely professional. The office is clean and organized and has a comfortable feel. I'm sure with the great energy in the office, it's no wonder a patient would feel comfortable and at ease. Excellent Staff! read more

Went to Turnkey dental last month to have a cracked molar checked out. They tried multiple times to push their 12 month inhouse insurance plan for people without insurance. Care plan they came up with was for a crown that "might fix" the cracked tooth. And "maybe" a root canal if required. Said I just wanted to have it extracted since I'm in my 40s and it's in a non visible location even while smiling. After some time thinking I called 3 days ago to schedule the extraction. Was told I would need to put down a deposit of half to schedule the extraction. This time they said the care plan that the dentist felt I "really needed" was to have the extraction and then a graft done so that way they could put some sort of insert in the socket after the broken tooth was removed. Once again I said no thanks I'm not interested and never going to want to have an implant installed. Said i would call back in two hours to pay the half down payment over the phone and get it on the books for removal. Less than an hour later I get a call from Trunkey dental stating the the dentist "really feels I should have the graft done because you never know one day I might change my mind and want to have an implant installed". Once again I said no I just need the tooth removed. After saying that the person immediately said "oh in that case the dentist feels that you need to be referred to an oral surgeon and she cannot remove the tooth". I felt this whole time that they were trying to get me to sign on for work I didn't want just for them to be able to charge for more than just a simple extraction. Oh and I inquired about oral sedation which is a couple of pills that you pay Trunky around $250 for. I asked if they then give me the pills at the office and was told that they write me a prescription and I pick up the pills at the pharmacy of my choice. So basically pay Trunky $250 for a couple pills that i then pay the pharmacy for. Mind you I don't have dental insurance and have never needed it and have no problem paying for the services I need. But if I say I don't want all the Xtra BS done then let it go and do the simple extraction for the price you charge. Seems to me like the dentist decided it wasn't worth the time for a simple procedure and I wasn't giving in to them trying to upsell me extra work. Funny the dentist could do the extraction and afterwards a grafting which was going to cost a few hundred extra and hours of my time, but when I declined the graft all of a sudden the dentist couldn't perform the extraction by itself and referred me to two different oral surgeons whom couldn't get me in for weeks and charge more than triple. After that call from Trunkey I chose to call another local dentist. Was able to make an appointment for today which was two days after the Trunkey phone call. Had my extraction done with the new dentist. Paid the three hundred and fifty dollars. Appointment was for 11am. Was in back getting an X-ray done at 1115am. Met with dentist at 1120am. Dentist said it would be a heroic attempt to save my tooth and wanted to know what would like to do. I explained I just wanted it removed. Couple minutes later they gave me a few injections and literally took less than 2 minutes to yank it out. Didn't feel a thing and didn't even know it had been removed. Going to Trunky is like going to a used car lot. I'm glad I didn't purchase their annual in house cleaning and X-ray package. read more

Whole experience here from making an appointment to getting my cavities filled has been all so pleasant. I'm a nervous wreck going to the dentist, as I'm sure many people are, and they made sure I was comfortable. And they took their time with the filling of my cavities and weren't rushed. My hygienist fell sick and there was no one available to take me at my appointed time or anytime soon for that matter. Today I had my very first appointment, it was PHENOMENAL. My inquiry began with a simple Google search for "teeth cleaning." Upon calling in I was greeted in a super friendly manner and was able to be kindly walked through the simple steps of setting up my first visit. I love this place! After moving from Seattle, I was very very hesitant about finding a new dentist. My plan was actually to fly back to Seattle as needed for my dental work as I was so nervous to have a new dentist due to previous experiences. I fell into a blessing-one I trust fully and actually love going to! Everyone there is so helpful, fun and comfortable! I have been going to Dr. Trunkey for a few years. I have had terrible anxiety about dental work ever since I was a child. I moved to Bakersfield a few years ago which forced me to find a new dentist. I tried waiting as long as possible but eventually my dental problems caught up with me and I had to find a doctor. I found an advertisement for Dr. Trunkey. His office was able to get me in quickly and deal with my emergency. Then they worked out a personalized treatment plan for the remaining cavities and root canals that I needed to take care of. Dr. Trunkey's office staff go out of their way to make me feel welcome and at ease. After an appointment you are given the doctor's personal cell phone number in case any problems arise. Dr. Trunkey calls the day after a treatment to make sure I am doing well. His office has been understanding regarding my financial situation and allow me to make payments. The office takes many different insurance plans. They also have started offering their own preventative care plan to those without dental insurance. This has really helped in my case. Dr. Trunkey has done all of my major work. He is very talented, patient and resourceful when it come to tricky teeth and dental problems that have gone too long. His motto is "no guilt", meaning - here are the facts of where we are, it doesn't matter how we got there and no need feeling guilty for being there. He wants each patient to have the healthiest mouth and smile possible. He truly cares about you. Dr. Karen is a new addition to the office. She has been working on my fillings for the past few months. She is very kind and bubbly. I appreciate the way she explains how and what she is going to do. She and her assistant are very good about checking in with me to make sure I am doing alright and checking to see if I need a break. Although my anxiety has not gone away, having the continued support from Dr. Trunkey, Dr. Karen and all the staff, going to the dentist isn't so bad. I continue to work on my treatment plan. I recommend Dr. Trunkey's office to anyone needing work done or just a check up. My mom even has an appointment scheduled later this week. read more

This dental office is in the business of IGNORING patients concerns, DISREGARDING healthy tooth substance and selling INVASIVE crown treatments. What a horrific experience. First time visit. During the exam I was told by Melanie that the office's mission is to have the patient feel cared for during the visit and happily ever after. Dr. Trunkey came in, as soon as he realized that I do not share his opinion of invasive crown treatment versus less invasive inlay treatment he was offended and refused to examine my mouth any further. He literally told me he sees enough on the images taken and does not need to look into my mouth. Uhm, seriously? When he finally did take a look at one of my teeth he suddenly started to forcefully bang the end of his metal mirror against it without warning me in advance even though I had clearly expressed that I am always nervous at the dentist. Since I was concerned that he would damage my enamel I told him to stop. He then said that he doesn't think he can please me, stood up and left the room. Also to mention, I could feel his right hand was trembling, so I doubt he would be able to do any precise dental work at all. I talked to the office manager Kathy (turns out she is Trunkey's wife, I didn't know this at the time) about this careless and unprofessional behavior of this "dentist". She offered for me to see another one, Dr. Karimi. Given what I had just experienced from Trunkey I was concerned about further carelessness. I asked Karimi about his opinion on this one tooth just by looking at it without using any tool for now. He literally refused to talk. He refused to be gentle and he refused to respect my concerns. The initial statement of this office's mission to have the patient feel cared for during the visit and happily ever after is absolutely LAUGHABLE. While I was waiting later on in the waiting area I shared my experience with someone else who was there. Trunkey's wife Kathy came out to me and tried to shush me. She literally tried me to keep quiet about my negative experience. This is an absolutely disrespectful dental office who seems to be looking for gullible people who do not do their homework and own research. They do not care about the patient. They do not care about saving healthy tooth substance and I have never experienced such a childish and unprofessional behavior of a dentist like Trunkey. read more

I received the best Dental experience ever! I've been searching for a "home" here in Bakersfield for around 8 years. I'd had the same dentist in VA since childhood and was trying to find that true, comforting care. I'd previously gone to Gosford to receive their advertised "new patient" price. Needless to say, I had a bit of a chip on my shoulder going into Trunkey; Surely they too would attempt to upsell me. I felt completely comfortable right from the first phone call. I was very clear about my needs and felt like I was heard. My husband also needs serious dental repairs so I was shopping for a place we could trust. I didn't wait at all before Griselda gave me a consultation that included answering questions and offering solutions. Key to the "offering solutions" part was that I didn't feel pressure. I felt as though they were truly concerned, not just selling a service. When I met Dr. Trunkey, he was cheerful, helpful and direct when addressing my concerns. Imagine how delighted I was to discover (later that night, after my appointment) that I had missed a call from Dr. Trunkey the night before my appointment. The message greeted me as a new patient and asked about my concerns as a new patient. Who does that? When was the last time anyone got a personal call from a doctor (of any specialty). Let me start off by thanking the staff at Trunkey Dental. The receptionists make you feel comfortable as soon as you walk in. Everything is very clean and professional, they even have a refrigerator so you can have a drink. There is a cozy family feel to the place. I can't remember all of their names but my X-Ray tech Kelsey was very warm and welcoming and talked me through the process. Then I met Dr Jeff, who was very confident and assuring. They found my problems immediately and were very thorough when asked any questions. I had a procedure that required 4 teeth be pulled, and they were so gentle and careful I did not feel a thing. Whenever I go to the dentist I'm always nervous and uncomfortable but when I walked in I was immediately welcomed. The staff are really respectful and helpful. I told them I get really nervous and they told me not to worry they'll make sure I'm not and honestly they kept their word which is a plus.
