I've done the 45 minute ride class and the Three15 classes They both kick my butt every time, but i think i like the Three15 more because it gives you more of a work out than just an intense 45 minute ride. The great thing about the workout though, is that the instructors do a great job of keeping you energized, pumped up and motivated! I've had different instructors every time and I have enjoyed them all! If you're new, you'll want to ask someone about the hand positions you'll need to know, because the instructors do tend to jump right in as if you're supposed to know what's next! Also, you'll want to arrive and book early because bikes and classes fill up super fast!

Pure Barre in Homewood is my go to spot and I like how it's very cutesy, very mindful, very demure :) The instructors make sure to learn your name before class and do a great job at helping you adjust your form to get the intended impact of each move. They're also good and shouting people out throughout class to help keep us motivated. I've tired both the classic class and define classes. The classics kick my butt the most but define isn't far behind. I like how each class is different and helps you get stronger in different ways. I honestly hate the idea of sweating and intentionally being in pain, so I motivate myself with cute outfits and post workout treats, like a smoothie from Farm Bowl. I feel like I get my money's worth every single workout and I can feel myself getting stronger each time. I can now hold a 30 second plank and use the weights much more easily, but it took awhile and I still have plenty of room to grow. Bonus points for the friendly, girl power environment!

The owners and instructors are wonderful people and they always greet you by name. They also have a variety of classes including Barre Fusion (which is a combo of barre and yoga), yoga, circuit barre (more cardio) and ballet class (only classical ballet moves). They often have groupon specials which is great! I really like browsing in the boutique which serves as the entryway for the studio. They have workout clothes and also locally made jewelry and hair ties. Water and snacks are also available for purchase. I highly recommend taking a class (first class is free) at Grand Jete and I am sure that you will get hooked like I did!

The instructor was upbeat and encouraging without being too in your face. The studio itself is adorable. They have a mini boutique in the front with workout clothes and sticky socks. I would recommend getting the sticky socks if you are going to be a regular. I was slipping all over the carpet during planks. They have cubbies in the actual studio to hold all your belongings. At $20 per class I do feel the price is tad high in comparison to other group exercise classes. They do seem to offer Groupons occasionally though! If you're into Barre this is a great option!

I originally joined to get in shape for my wedding but ended up staying for the long haul because THIS WORKS YALL. Downtown OTF is, in my opinion, the superior one in the Birmingham area. Coach Avana and Nigel have what it takes to keep me engaged in class and always pushing to be better. I go 3 times a week, sometimes more and I saw results quickly. I'm no longer embarrassed to show my arms in sleeveless dresses and tops, and my muscles are more defined. I will caution you though, you get what you put into it. If you only come once a week you probably won't see results. This is something you have to work for (as is any workout facility). Going as much as I do has yielded a long term loss in body fat, toned legs and arms, and endurance IVE NEVER HAD, even when I played college soccer. I can run 5ks without even thinking about it now AND I AM NOT SOMEONE WHO LOVES TO RUN. Favorite things about OTF DOWNTOWN- there are so many classes to choose from that you don't get at other OTF or any other studio of any sort. The coaches and staff are top notch. It is always clean and in the showers they even provide hair dryers, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. They have complimentary hygiene products in all bathrooms for that day you forget your pony tail holder, deodorant, or tampon. First class is free so why not try it out?

I tried OT while I was traveling through Birmingham, and I've been wanting to try an OT studio in my hometown of Miami. I signed up for a class and was told to come in 45 minute prior to class, which going to other studios I knew that was way too much time. When I questioned it, they said 30 minutes prior was ok. I showed up before class and they completed paperwork, got me setup for a heart rate monitor, did a studio tour, and then introduced me to the coach (Avana) who showed me how the equipment worked and gave a brief overview of today's workout. Avana was an amazing coach, checked on you throughout the workout and kept you motivated along the way. So why not a complete 5 star experience? The heart rate system didn't work throughout the entire workout. The coach and the front desk team checked their system to see why it wasn't working and they couldn't remedy the problem. It really defeated the purpose of the OT system and workout because of the technical problem. It's hard to figure out how you need to modify how you are performing in your workout if their systems aren't working as they should be. Would I come back to OT? Probably, but it is for the staff alone. I don't fault them for faulty equipment.. but I do fault management for not keeping their systems up to date and maintained.

I like that even for a small studio they still have a variety of classes as well as available times throughout the day. I really enjoy going to the Monday evening, power yoga and there are some days where they have a 35 minute class which is great if I'm in a time crunch. I kind of assumed going in that the instructors might be partial to 1 of the exercises more then others but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised! When you are on the spin section of class you really will feel like you are in a spin class, same for Barre. The one part that I think could use some more improvement is weights. I feel like you never truly transition from barre type movements even though you do have the option to incorporate small hand weights. The main limiting factor of this is the small space they have to work with. I think if they one day move to a larger studio that they could incorporate a wider variety of weighted exercise that transition away from typical Barre movements. Overall I think its a great workout and competitively priced to the other studios around town. I'd recommend any woman try it just to shake up your normal routine a bit!

The grand opening for the highly anticipated True40 in Homewood has finally arrived! I came in…read moreyesterday morning at 9:30am to take a class with Kaitlyn Bentley, the owner of this True40 Studio as well as the one in the downtown Birmingham location! I have been to the downtown location a couple of times so I really wanted to see how this new location would compare. I was quite impressed! First off, I was expecting parking to be a lot easier in Homewood, and it was! Thank goodness for large parking lots! Then the actual studio and the other rooms seemed much more spacious as well! They now have both small lockers and cubby holes here for you to put your stuff in. When you walk in the studio, the TRX straps were already set up at each station. I proceeded to grab a yoga mat, light and heavier weights, a ball, a towel, and the little True40 round foot rests. The class was fun, but quite intense! I am still sore from it in the best way! So it is really good for those more experienced to get in a great workout while beginners can still keep up for the most part and make modifications where needed. I just love the atmosphere True40 creates! I always feel so great leaving a True40 workout. All of the ladies that work here are so kind and encouraging too!

I recently tried a beginner aerial yoga class at Aero Joe and overall had a good experience. This…read morewas my first time trying anything like this, so I was a little nervous. The instructions said to arrive early to sign waivers and get settled, so we arrived about 25 minutes before class to change, but no one was there yet and we had to wait about 10 minutes before someone arrived. There is a parking lot on both sides of the building which made parking easy. I would also recommend wearing long sleeves so the silks don't rub under your arms, and avoiding loose fitted clothing and jewelry so nothing snags while you're in the silks. One class was $35, but they also have a deal for 3 classes for $49 which seems like a great option if you plan to go back. Once class started, I really enjoyed it. Rachel was super nice, patient, and helpful, especially for beginners. She did a great job walking us through how to use the silks and made sure everyone felt comfortable. The class was fun, different, and a great introduction to aerial yoga. I would definitely take another class again!
