He has navigated multiple injuries with me without ever letting me lose momentum, always adapting, always finding a way to keep me moving forward safely. What I didn't expect was how much he'd also build up my confidence along the way. I'm not just stronger physically; I genuinely feel better about myself. Richard is rare in that he doesn't just show up as a trainer, he shows up as someone who actually cares. He's become a confidante and, at this point, a friend. If you're looking for someone who will meet you exactly where you are and push you further than you thought possible, Richard is it.

I'd been wanting to start strength training for months but struggled to find options in the area. After passing RHAX on West Portal by chance and seeing how nice the space looked, I decided to take the leap. Before starting, we had a quick phone consultation to go over my goals and experience level. I'm new to strength training and was nervous about signing up, but Richard has made the overall experience very approachable and I look forward to our sessions because of the results I'm seeing. Richard is knowledgeable and thoughtful in the workouts he designs. He's conscious of any injuries or weakness I might have going into each session, and will tailor the workout accordingly. The sessions go by quickly (I don't find myself checking the time and wishing the hour was over like I do during some group fitness classes..) and they're challenging and effective. I feel myself getting stronger and more confident every session. As a gym owner, you can tell Richard has put a lot of thought into the space he's built and the overall client experience. If you're new to strength training like me and looking for an approachable and knowledgeable trainer, I highly recommend working with Richard!

I came in knowing basically nothing about proper lifting technique, and he built everything up from the ground floor, never making me feel rushed or embarrassed for being a beginner. What stands out most is how patient he is; he'll take the time to break down a movement until it actually clicks, not just move on when you sort of get it. That focus on doing things right has made a huge difference. If you're serious about strength training and want a trainer who actually pays attention to the details, Nate Hagen at RHAX is your guy.

I've already surpassed many of my initial goals and I am hitting new PRs regularly. I'm genuinely the strongest I've ever been in my life! Nate is really motivating and fun to work with, he is incredibly knowledgeable too. He's very passionate about what he does, and if you have any weaknesses, imbalances, or injuries, he's great at working around them while also figuring out the root cause and helping you strengthen those areas. He truly tailors each workout to your specific goals. I look forward to my sessions every week! The gym itself is also great. It's small but has everything you need, is very clean and there are usually never more than 3 people working out at the same time which was the biggest selling point for me. I hate overcrowded gyms. I also really appreciate that you can work with a trainer without having to purchase a gym membership, which is what I'm currently doing. Everyone is super friendly and welcoming, and it's just a really comfortable environment to train in. Couldn't recommend Nate and Rhax more!

Justine's evidence-based approach, coupled with her ability to highly personalize our workouts to fit our specific needs has been a game changer. I ended up with intense low back pain in my early 30s that the doctors seemed stumped about. They offered physical therapy, I tried a chiropractor, acupuncture, even went back to my doctor and tried steroid pills, steroid shots and ended up at a back specialist. He told me that I could periodically get steroid shots, but probably I'd always have the pain. I couldn't believe that was my only option, so I searched for something else and thank god I found Justine! Working with her not only provided immediate relief from the first session but for the first time since my injury I started noticing improvements in my overall fitness. She innately understands what works and doesn't for your specific injury, even if doctors could barely grasp it! She knows when to push you, when to let you catch your breath, and when to focus on mobility, an aspect of fitness I didn't even know to prioritize. Over time I went from being in pain 24/7 to only occasionally pushing myself too hard and having pain. I KNOW Justine is a huge part of this. She recently started seeing clients again and I was SO excited and happy to get to keep working with her! If you need someone to push you, someone who understands your body, your injuries, how to incorporate mobility, flexibility and strength, and really will listen to your goals and concerns, Justine is the one for you! If you've ever been stopped by an injury, Justine can help get you unstuck and keep you moving and active.

I've been coming to Pilates Story for years now and it's honestly one of the best decisions I've made for my fitness. Hye-Yeon, the owner, has done an incredible job creating a welcoming space in West Portal. As a guy, I wasn't sure what to expect from Pilates at first, but she and her team made me feel completely comfortable from day one. The instructors are knowledgeable, encouraging, and know how to challenge you while still respecting your limits. What I really appreciate is how Hye-Yeon is building a sense of community here. It's not just about getting a great workout (which you definitely will), but also about connecting with people and feeling like you're part of something bigger. The studio is clean, modern, and has all the equipment you need for a solid session. Whether you're new to Pilates or have some experience, this is the place to be. If you're a guy thinking about trying Pilates, I highly recommend giving this studio a shot. It's an awesome way to build strength, improve flexibility, and stay balanced--plus, you'll feel right at home with the friendly atmosphere Hye-Yeon has created in the neighborhood!

It's more than a place to exercise; it's a space to connect with others and be inspired by the positive energy all around. If you're on the fence about trying Pilates, especially if you're a guy who's unsure of what to expect, don't hesitate--this studio is an ideal spot to gain strength, flexibility, and confidence. I tried out the Newbie unlimited pass, and was going about 3-4 times a week. What I love about this studio is that they seem to have instructors that are more invested with each of its clients. For instance, the instructors call out participants by name saying how great they are doing in a move. I also like how some instructors incorporate arm weights into the class, which look tiny, but are quite strenuous. My favorite instructors are Corri, Ina, Ariel, and Mara. After being here for a few months, I'd say 90% of the instructors are good, and you will get a good workout in. Some things I don't like about the studio are the booking options for the classes. By first glance, it looks impossible to book a class, as the options are almost always "waitlist only." I am pulled off the waitlist about 80% of the time, but not always. I always feel like in general, it's annoying to be put on a waitlist, instead of being confirmed right away. In addition, if I could change the membership options, what I would change is the options for classes per month. It skips from 8 classes/month to 12 classes/month, which is a big jump. Wish there was an option in between to choose from. Another bummer is the mirrors in the class. 80% of the reformer machines have mirrors on all sides, but there are a few spots that don't have many options, so it's hard to see yourself in the mirror to correct yourself. The parking is really easy in this area, which is amazing. Even in broad daylight, the residential parking a block down and over are free for 2-4 hours! Love that! In general, I really love this studio and would recommend if you want to try Reformer pilates.

I did 2 morning classes which worked out perfectly for my schedule and the parking outside (street cleaning so be aware of the days, also no meter paying until 9AM). The studio is very well setup, spacious and clean with good ventilation/ac. Reformers are staggered with lots of mirror around and motivational words up top (love that!). I appreciate the little baskets each reformer has for our personal items, such as smart way to keep out things in one place, next to us! Very high 4 stars rating, only things that brings it down is its soo pricey for a membership or per session... but that's a Pilates reformer class anywhere you go. Nevertheless, definitely worth the try and I just may be back every once in a while!
