My home away from home. The most wonderful, supportive, welcoming exercise spot I have ever been to in my entire life. This place is much more than a workout studio--it's a place of mindfulness, empathy, moral support. And yes Lisa will make you love the pain, crack jokes and shape your body into something that you never thought was possible. No other Pilates studio comes anywhere near what this place has to offer. I am super happy with my current studio, but unfortunately, my private instructor ended up injuring her elbow and a fall outside the studio. I have EDS so it's super important that I'm doing the exercises correctly which is why I use a private instructor since I'm only three months into Pilates I looked at several and was super nervous. I wanted to make sure that I went to a studio that even in groups were willing to correct you in a positive way. Heather is amazing. I will definitely be back. She was so welcoming even when I was super nervous about my physicality and that I might be slowing down the class in someway. She was so inviting and understanding she gave me some very good tips. Been on our cute girl wellness journey so my friend and I have been trying different classes to see which one we love so we can commit to one. We tried this one and we were not disappointed amazing class, really feel like we were working out, this is not a class for someone who thinks Pilates is easy. We definitely will be coming back we were recommended by a waitress at Ritual coffee and she was right. Plus there was a cute little well behaved dog who helped supervised our class that day. I've come to over 10 classes now and I absolutely love it. The classes challenge you in ways you didn't know were possible but you leave feeling so accomplished and strong. The studio itself is really nice and they take cleanliness seriously. Each instructor has different music playlists so there is a vibe for everyone. I've taken classes with Lisa, Heather, Katie, and Kat - they have all been wonderful. Hands down Heather is my favorite teacher though. Her energy always pumps everyone up along with her great music choice. I love her sequences. I've just purchased a 40 pack so that should be an indication of how much I enjoy it and plan to keep coming. read more

I've been going to CORE MVMT since it opened in 2020. The quality of classes is always very high. I always try to go to Kat's saturday morning classes because they are ridiculously good (always the right mix, she generally hits the full body, technical, difficulty, etc, etc). Today's class (which i just walked out of) was a tad different in the sense it was perfect. 10 out of 10, wow, she's hit a new level (bottle that class). Keep it up Kat & see ya next week. read more

Awful experience dealing with the owner Lisa. She is hostile, distrusting, rude and isn't here to build a community out of respect and kindness. There are much better studios in the city that cultivates building a community with better classes and results. 1. I joined as a new customer in May and bought a 20 class pack that was offered after my initial visit. Class was taken out of the 20 pack so I reached out to see what was going on. I was told it was because I was added to a 7am class I was waitlisted for at 11pm the night before. I was not informed via text or email. After many back and forth with Lisa about me not receiving any emails on being added to the class, she credited the class back. I informed her that my intention isn't to cheat her or her business. 2. I slept through my alarm one morning and missed the 7am class for which I rushed to the studio to go to the 8am. I not only lost out on a class, I was charged an additional $30 no show fee even though her policy says it is $25. 3. On a 8am Monday class the instructor does not show up. No communication to anyone that signed up for the class whatsoever. I went home and emailed that I would like to make sure the class is credited back to me and I asked if I can get the $30 no show fee refunded since this time around it's her instructor that didn't show up. Lisa once again responds with animosity and anger over email saying "I'm not going back and forth with you over a policy that you signed and agreed to. I'm not refunding the charge from 7/29 nor am I going to change my policy because you don't like it." She ended up refunding the remainder of the 10 classes left on my 20 pack. I took my first Pilates class here and I'm so glad I did! The studio has a welcoming and friendly vibe, and is a great place for those starting their Pilates journey. I've taken classes with Lisa and Heather and they are both great. Lisa is encouraging, upbeat, attentive and has helped to correct my movements during class. I appreciate how she breaks down the moves so it's easier to follow. I also took my little sister to Heather's class and Heather was super welcoming and made her feel at ease immediately (I was also loving her playlist). Just upped my membership, looking forward to taking more classes and learning from some of the other instructors as well. 10/10 highly recommend Core MVMT. read more

From a beginner pov: I really liked the classes I've taken with Lisa and Daniel! For a beginner, I would definitely recommend taking a class with Lisa first. She's high energy, awesome in motivating the class to try their hardest (and skip them intentional waterbreaks), great at instructing, and does a great job of correcting form (and will give you more attention if you are new). Daniel is also very nice and provides great tips for leveling up certain poses. I have noticed for his class, he will call out specific pose names which makes me lean towards Lisa for a first timer. The studio also is very nice and clean and the machines are kept in great condition - no tearing or anything. After trying a couple studios so far, this is definitely my favorite! read more

I tried my first ever CORE MVMT Pilates class this morning with the instructor named Dana and I LOVED it! Such an incredible workout, unlike anything I've ever tried. It was harder than it looked and I can already feel instant results from how the workout targeted and fine tuned muscles. Dana's instruction was very clear, her music was fun and she brought great energy and enthusiasm to the whole class - we all left smiling! I can't wait for my next class at this studio! Nearly 2 years on and my injuries are so well supported by the workouts and instructors here, so much so that I recommend the studio to my patients. What also keeps me coming back to Core Mvmt is the community. You can tell that this is a locally owned business and that Lisa works hard to cultivate a supportive space that celebrates folks of all abilities and backgrounds. Overall, I can't recommend the studio highly enough, both as a physician and as person who has historically been turned off by the fitness scene. Lisa is a phenomenal instructor, and I don't mean to embellish! As a fitness instructor of this type of workout, I can confidently say that I received the time, attention, and care requisite with a five star review. Lisa offers great metaphors to position your body, and respects all Covid-19 precautions to ensure safety during a pandemic. Machines at Core MVMT are the Mercedes of reformers, tip top of the line. I was able to follow Lisa's directions smoothly with the a**kicking shakes I need to get me to muscle fatigue and failure. If you aren't vibrating during this workout, ask Lisa for direction. However, I am CONFIDENT that you will get the huff and puff, moving and shaking, booty burning, high intensity workout on your arms, legs, obliques, and core. Would recommend beginner for the first few classes and then throw yourself at the full body. You won't regret it! Ambiance is so gorgeous and manicured. Love, love, love the green marble walls paired with the black. Every detail is nailed. Private restrooms, fitting rooms, cubbies, and you definitely should bring socks or buy them at the studio. I've been doing studio fitness on and off for years, and this is the worst experience I've ever had. I signed up for a 10:00 am class, got there at 10:00 on the dot, and the instructor tried to tell me I needed to be there at 9:55 and she wouldn't let me in, because I missed the "machine demo." I pleaded with her to be admitted; I'd just spent $15 on an Uber to get there, and I was on time! She asked me if I've worked with pilates machines before, I told her (truthfully!!) that I have. She said "Fine, don't make me regret this" in a snotty tone. The first few minutes of the class were hard and I was struggling to keep up a bit; not because I'm unfamiliar with Pilates machines, but because I'm out of shape after recuperating from an accident. Then she had everyone move from planks to crunches and I took a moment to consider whether I wanted to ask for a modification; my physical therapist has specifically told me to avoid crunches, but I wasn't sure if I wanted more of this woman's attention on me. She saw me hesitating, got in my face about how I was obviously not experienced or fit enough, and kicked me out. Mind you, this is all unfolding in front of a full class, which is pretty embarrassing. The room is large and she could barely see me, so she definitely wasn't paying careful attention to why I was struggling. This class was literally called "beginners", so it's not like I blundered into an advanced class. I told her I would leave as long as she promised not to mark me as a no-show, since ClassPass charges a pretty punitive fee for missing a class. She said she wouldn't charge me a no-show fee, but when I got home, I saw she had indeed marked me as missing the class. I had to reach out to ClassPass customer service to make sure I wouldn't be charged. Three things: 1) You need to be clear about the actual start time for your class! It is INSANE to mark your start time as 10:00 and then refuse entrance to people who arrive at 10:00. If you specifically want ClassPass students to arrive at 9:55, mark the start time on Classpass as 9:55, not 10:00! This is so obvious I can't believe I even have to say it. 2) Even though it's described as being beginner-friendly, it's not. The instructor/owner is rude and doesn't want to actually instruct anyone. She specifically told me she doesn't want to give anyone individual attention and that's why I was being kicked out. Isn't that the job of a fitness instructor?? 3) Don't kick me out of your class, assure me I won't be charged, then mark me as a no-show! That's so unprofessional. I'm not a person who gets hung up on "customer service", but this was an unbelievably shitty experience and I'll never go back. Bad vibes!!! read more

Great pilates studio! The owner, Lisa is fantastic at instructing and very welcoming. I'd take a class with Lisa if possible! It's also in a great location on market. Each time I come here, I get such a great workout in and I leave feeling really good. The equipment is nice and the studio is clean and elevated. They don't have lockers, but they do have cubbies to put your stuff in. I only wish they posted more of their classes on Classpass so I could attend more! Hands down, this is the best Pilates studio in SF. CORE MVMT is in an accessible location with an amazing owner/instructor. And you get a kick ass workout. Lisa is what really makes this place shine - from your first class, she'll remember your name and keep track of your trajectory. She also provides several workout modifications depending on your level/needs, so there's always something new. For someone who isn't a workout fanatic (read: uses any excuse to not exercise) her class turned into something I was actively excited for. She's literally a miracle worker. I'm a long time Core40 goer and wasn't sure what to expect with this studio so I opted for the beginner class. Whether you've been doing pilates for years or brand new I highly recommend it. Lisa was encouraging, fun and recommended easier or harder adjustments based on skill level. Just because it's beginner doesn't mean it's easy! The studio itself is very nice, clean and I really liked all the plants and the marble walls in the changing rooms. There are cubbies for your belongings and a bathroom but no shower. There are no mirrors which at first seemed strange but I kind of liked it in the end. I was more concerned about my form than how I looked in the mirror. There is a studio space in the back that will be used for meditations and/or yoga in the future. I'm really looking forward to coming back for those! They may have had them but I didn't see any so one suggestion would be to provide hair ties, dry shampoo and deodorant. Looking forward to checking out another class soon! read more

CORE MVMT is my favorite pilates studio in SF right now! I've been a casual class attendee at local pilates studios over the years. CORE MVMT is similar in style to CORE40, BODYROK, and Pilates ProWorks. After two classes into CORE MVMT, I knew it was different and better. During my first class, Lisa suggested an adjustment that made me realize why my hip flexors often felt uncomfortable while doing reformer lunges. No other instructor had ever pointed this out to me. Lisa teaches all of the classes herself right now, so unlike studios with a rotating cast of instructors, CORE MVMT does not have an instructor consistency problem. She changes things up enough from class to class and often surprises us with new moves. I recently left class with my butt cheeks quivering after a particularly long squat sequence. That's not a feeling I get much. The studio is trendy and bright. The machines are comfortable, clean, and in great condition. Reformer pilates lends itself to distancing very well compared to other types of workouts. The current COVID procedures mean that you will be at least 2 or 3 machines away from anyone else in class, everyone keeps their masks on, and the studio door stays open for ventilation. read more

I initially thought this may become my go-to Pilates studio until one of the instructors would not allow me to even enter the studio 30 seconds post class time, with zero care of the money spent on class or transportation to get there. So if you arrive even a second late, they will leave you outside with zero consideration. I personally have no interest in attending a studio that has no grace period. read more

I'm sure this is great if you are at the level of the instructor who is extremely fit (kudos!) but I found it disappointing that the instructor didn't read the room and tailor to class - 80% of the class couldn't do what was being asked properly and there's quite high risk of injury and no feedback given. I am used to intermediate Pilates so I'm not a beginner and this was not approachable to say the least. Lots of things were over-engineered - can simplify with less risk of strain/injury. Just make sure you're super ripped and know proper form :) read more

Core MVMT is my new favorite pilates in SF. Here's why: Lisa is a BADASS! She's super fun and energetic so workouts fly by. She'll take suggestions if you want to incorporate a move or focus on a specific muscle group. She's also the reigning queen of good form. I've been to hundreds of classes at other studios, but she's the only one who took the time and knew the right thing to say to adjust me. The instructor makes or breaks a workout, so I've always been picky about who's class I attend. Lisa is always my first pick. The class is a true judgment free zone. Lisa sets this tone intentionally and does so successfully. I was hesitant at first without mirrors since I thought I'd need to check out my form. In reality, I can look down at my own body to check out my form. No mirrors means I focus on how I feel, not how I look. RESULTS! This class kicks my ass in the best way possible. You're in and out in 40 minutes yet it's the only workout that has actually changed my body. I leave every class with a smile on my face and feeling a little stronger than before I came in. read more

Ashamed by my pandemic pounds, I reached out to Lisa to restart my reformer pilates practice when we were allowed socially-distanced workouts indoors wearing masks. Lisa complied with all of the requirements to open her business and I felt safe, comfortable, and secure passing CORE MVMT and seeing her air out and clean all of the machines in between classes. I love and respect Lisa (studio owner) as a teacher because: 1. She doesn't rush you through movements, and offers modifications for every move (like my nemesis: the plank to pike.) 2. She meets you where you're at, and lures you into doing more through encouragement and cheering (Fine. I'll do that extra lunge!) 3. She gets to know all of her students, builds community by introducing us to one another, and invites us to request moves we'd like to practice (I curse all of you who ask for more crunches. Why? WHY? WHYYY?) 4. Her music rocks. She constantly updates her playlist with upbeat and danceable tunes. 5. She doesn't push products on you and doesn't take advantage of you. I respect that she's building a business by doing what she says, and not having ulterior motives other than strengthening your muscles (and having fun.) COREMVMT has helped me lose 20 of my pandemic pounds and gain 2% more lean muscle mass within two months (I've been going 3x a week). I've walked straighter, slouched less at my couch-to-livingroom-workspace, and my mental health as improved tremendously (perhaps the blood rushing in plank to pike helps). More than that, classes with Lisa provide respite, a little more light, and a lot of laughter in these trying times. After my first class at Core MVMT I am totally hooked! I have been taking Pilates reformer classes for years but this studio is beyond. The equipment is absolutely top of the line, the community aspect is so real and so special and the aesthetic is clean and bright. The studio's owner, Lisa, knows how to structure a class to fit an amazing full body work out into a fun 45 min class that keeps you moving and challenged. The most AMAZING WORKOUT!!! I had only done pilates once before I tried Lisa's class and I was hooked after trying it for a few sessions - now I go on a weekly basis! Her pilates class targets muscles I didn't even know I had and I leave every class feeling so invigorated and strong. She has such a fun, positive energy that makes everyone feel welcome, and every class is different, with motivating music to match! I go back for the awesome atmosphere and also that fact that I've been seeing results that I wasn't able to achieve on my own before this class. Additionally, this studio is extremely clean, with sanitized reformers for each class and air purifiers at every outlet. I never participated in a group work out class before and now I go to Core MVMT as much as I can! Really strong thoughtful work out with out feeling like I'm going to hurt myself, I've noticed good changes since I've started and still feel challenged. The teachers all have a little bit different approach so there's a variety even if you're there a lot, a nice space with friendly teachers and participants, I recommend Core MVMT to everyone! read more
