We had our wedding in June 2015 and we hired TL Wedding to do our photography as well as a 'Cinematic' Wedding video. In a nutshell, if you want a truly awesome, affordable and moving cinematic wedding highlight film around 10 minutes, great photos and good service, all at a one-stop shop...read on!
So I did quite a lot of research online (I'm actually in the industry as a documentary film producer/host) to see who would be able to best capture the memories and emotions as well as tell the story of one of the most important events in our lives. It's funny how we spend so much time, money (what's the average here in New York - $40k?!) and effort on our wedding and poof - it's over in a day essentially. Sure, photos are great...but there's nothing like a 'cinematic - multi camera - 10 minute highlight reel' which celebrates you and your partner's life, love and family in a unique way that only film can. I think it's something that you can share with your children and generations to come even. So we simply watched a ton of wedding videos online until we finally found the artistry, pace and story telling style which really resonated with us. And that's when we came across TL Wedding!
THE 'PROS'
So meeting up with them was a lot of fun - to some extent we were already sold before we met them (we loved their client wedding videos on their website and just the name of their company hit a sweet spot lol.) When we got there, the first person we spoke to was a guy called Chao - one of the most humble and nice guys you'll ever meet. Turns out he's the owner with 30+ years experience in wedding photography/video in the industry! So that was a good start. Then we met with Joanne - who was the main consultant who dealt with us regarding all the options. She was a pleasure dealing with and we found a package that could work (we didn't decide on the spot. Checked out a few other places before going with them.)
Even though initially we were going to go with an existing photographer we knew, we decided to go with one of their in-house photographers - Tony, who's just amazing (he speaks Cantonese/Mandarin/Shanghainese and fluent English also...so that was great for our guests!) And as they really work as a team (video guys + Tony), it just made sense to go with them completely. Plus they threw in for free the renting of the bridesmaids gowns, all the makeup/hair for the bridal team etc and even free use of various dresses/gowns for the pre-wedding shoot. They were really a 'one-stop shop' which meant a lot less headaches!
As for their cinematic team - I didn't get a chance to meet them before hand, but I trusted Chao, when he said Marvin/Robert etc would do a great job (we were specific about certain shots we wanted, the type of wedding video we wanted etc)....and boy, did they more than deliver! The first time we saw our highlight video, my wife shed more than a few tears and we were just blown away. Our wedding video started and ended with parts of my best friend's speech and they weaved in parts of the vow which we wrote - so it ended up being the perfect narrative which was really special. Plus their choice of music, pacing was just beautiful.
And as for our photos, we couldn't have been more thrilled - they were just stunning! (Composition, lighting, color etc) In hindsight, we wished we had more time for photos as our day was too packed and too rushed. So factor in more time!
THE 'CONS'
Price wise - they're certainly not 'cheap' or super expensive...a bit over mid range perhaps? But I guess it's all relative. In the end, we probably spent a little more than we would have liked (who's ever spent under budget for their wedding lol.) But once again, consider how much you're spending on your entire wedding and what you're left with after it all - just your memories, photos...and potentially your very own Hollywood/Korean Drama 'fairytale' wedding movie! I'm a bit biased but we REALLY love our 10 minute cinematic highlight video lol
On second thoughts, I think overall - they're super competitive considering the service, all the add-ons they throw in for free...and ultimately the product they produce - you'd easily pay double or more for Manhattan based professionals of the same level. I've seen a lot of one-camera wedding videos, and sure they're a lot less expensive...but honestly, they're ugly as heck, and having 2 camera guys with glidecams, plus a few extra cameras for the wide shots etc truly gives it the 'cinematic' effect. Flat out I think it's really worth paying extra for. If you've always wanted to be a movie producer - here's your chance!
So it's once in a life-time you have a 'True Love Wedding' right? Finally of course, a big big thank you to Chao, Joanne, Tony, Marvin, Robert, Tina (hair), Cindy, Yvonne and the rest of the fantastic team at True Love Wedding!! We love you guys!!! read more
