I enjoyed going to Truckeroo. There was a lot of food options for vegetarians and meat lovers. The lines to the food trucks were long at night. If you go in a group seperate and spread out into different lines. Food and desserts are overpriced. I noticed some food trucks accept credit cards which is a plus. If you are looking to have a good time eating, drinking and listening to music this is the place to go. I would definitely go again because I did not get to try the korean tacos. read more

Delicious food, but long lines that are made longer by slow service.

I love truckroo! It is a deliciously wonderful food experience. The only downside is that there is barely any parking in close proximity to this event. I don't live by a metro so it was kind of a hassle. Other than that the food was delicious, but don't expect to get a korean taco unless you plan to wait on a 1 1/2 line. It was the longest food truck line by far. read more

A food truck paradise for those who are foodies about the truck. Occurs every 2nd Friday of the month at the Fairgrounds near nationals park, this event is an all day festival of eats out of those mobile vendors. Some of my favorite trucks such as DC Slices are here. There is also some live music and vendors selling clothing, cigars and of course alcohol. Check this place out, you will find something you're looking for in terms of food. Just make sure you come on an empty stomach so you can try as much as you can. I left with a smile and a full belly 4 hours later. read more

Pretty much the same as ever. Basically its the Bullpen plus food trucks, minus cornhole. The trucks were your standard array of DC foodtrucks, except that they can't sell drinks. Kinda sucks if you're looking forward to the Lobster Truck fancy sodas. Funny, why the Bullpen drinks are cheap compared to Nats Park, they're still triple the price of the dollar sodas you can find on most trucks. There is live music but for the most part its background music. I work next door, so its fine to wander over, but I wouldn't metro across town expecting much. read more

Having tried to go to Truckeroo once before at dinner time and running into huge lines, I was very excited that I got off work early enough on Friday to go before it got crazy. I met a friend at about 4PM on Friday to head over to Truckeroo and was shocked that there was no one there! I figured I wasn't the only government employee with an early release before a 3-day weekend, but apparently most people waited until dinner to go. We walked right in after showing our IDs to get bracelets. The guys at the door were very friendly. Once we were in, we had our pick of food trucks with no lines (so rare!) so we took our time walking around and looking at all the options. I love the space that Truckeroo takes place in across from the Navy Yard metro station and down the street from Nationals Park (the Bullpen...the Fairgrounds...I'm not really sure what it's called). There's plenty of open space with picnic tables, tents (if it's sunny), a stage, and most importantly, tons of space for food trucks and drink vendors. My friend suggested TaKorean, so we decided to give it a try. For more of what I thought about TaKorean, see my review: http://www.yelp.com/biz/takorean-washington#hrid:g6IwHcPzJMVO1943M61vGw. Mostly I was just so excited to have access to all the different food trucks in one location. Had I not been more focused on catching up with my friend, I definitely would've gotten some dessert at one of the trucks too (I was hoping Sinplicity http://www.yelp.com/biz/sinplicity-ice-cream-falls-church would be there, but I didn't see it.) As it was, my friend and I grabbed a margarita from one of the stands and took a seat at a picnic table to catch up. I was a little disappointed that you couldn't get drinks at any of the food trucks, but it makes sense that the vendor is the only one that can provide drinks (so they make some money from the event too). The margaritas were expensive at $8 each, but they were surprisingly good and pretty strong. We ended up having two each! The live band wasn't amazing, but it was nice background music (covers of popular songs) and helped create a fun atmosphere on a beautiful fall day. I'm glad we went early because it was still laid back and relaxed, not crowded and loud. Overall, I had a great time and I can't wait to go again next year! read more

I like local businesses & food trucks, but I don't think the quality of food and selection was anything special at Truckeroo. There were about 20+ food trucks on this Monday afternoon. I'm sure you can find better quality & more delicious foods at similar prices at a sit down restaurant. The concept is great, but I don't think the food delivers. I prefer the food trucks in NYC more because at least for such an affordable price, the food delivers, especially if it's ethnic foods. Would not go out of my way to eat at a food truck. Would only go for lunch if I worked in the area, and there was nothing else to eat. Also, it was a really hot day, and the only cold/dessert truck they had was RITA's. Nothing special. There's plenty of picnic tables, and I would see the appeal if you had a group of people with diverse food preferences and wanted to try out the concept of "food truck." read more

I consider this event one of summers highlights. Free admission, free music and all the grub to choose from. The beer selection was decent; offering some local favorites like Blue Moon and Summer Shandys. My top food truck selections this year are: 1) Takorean 2) Banh Mi 3) Georgetown Cupcakes 4) Main Lobster If you haven't been to an event yet; don't fret there is still time. Check out the schedule online and prepare to chow down & and get down on some corn hole! read more

This is such so much fun for a Friday night in DC. You definitely get a different side of DC with the location in Navy Yard so it's pretty casual/ chill. I went when it was a little windier so it probably wasn't as crowded around 8 PM so we found seating. The lines moved quickly and there was room to walk around and explore. I had one of the surfside trucks (I think the chicken tacos)- it was a little bland but a good amount of food. I had one of the empanada trucks (which was amazing) and a cupcake from the cupcake truck (also delectable). We also tried a sample for the custard from the icecream truck, which has revealed my love for custard. I could have probably just hung out there with a few friends till the end of the night! I can't wait to go back, definitely a unique scene in The District. read more

Food trucks are pretty easy to find nowadays, as long as you're in a major commercial center, so this whole experience was less novel than it would have been a few years back. I also didn't think much of the offerings at today's event, with the exception of The Randy Radish (really innovative stuff, separate review coming soon). The vibe is carnival/county fair. I was entertained by the sight of strollers. I sighted mostly children between the ages of 12 months to five years. I guess parents are less inclined to bring children once they can start demanding lobster rolls... i appreciated the live music and the opportunity to run into so many familiar faces. If for nothing else, go to Truckeroo to see and be seen, and to be where the cool people hang out. Also, it's a great jeans and flip flops kinda spot. The less frou frou folk will like that. For me, it was worth experience, but once is plenty enough. I'll hit up my fave haunt, the State Department area, for some of the areas most exciting restaurants on wheels. If you're nowhere near the city, use Food Truck Fiesta to scout out a good truck in your neck of the woods. read more

I came to Truckeroo for the second time on September 30th. I also went a month ago. The first time was at night around 7 pm, and last Friday it was around 3 pm. If you went during the evening, this place is really packed. There is almost a line for every food truck. If you went during lunch time, it's less packed, and you could definitely get whatever you want with no waiting. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed both outings at truckeroo. The atmosphere is very lively, and the crowd was great. Here is the highlights/summary of some of the food trucks I tried: TaKorean: By far one of the most popular food trucks. It's a unique concept of taco's with Korean BBQ touch to it. They had bulgogi, tangy chicken and Tofu. They were somewhat small, but 3 or $9, it was a good deal, and they were delicious with all the toppings. Red Hook Lobster: This was probably the second most popular; they served up Lobster rolls for $15. While they were good, it was somewhat small, and nothing compared to lobster rolls I had earlier from my trip to Boston. But if you love lobster, check this food truck out. They also had shrimp rolls for $8. Big Cheese: served up grilled cheese that was really delicious. They had a variety of grilled cheeses with different toppings, but my favorite was the thrilled cheese which came with jalapeno, spicy chipotle cheese, and avocado. Fojol Bros: This truck served up Ethiopian food. A medium plate went for $7 that came with a chicken/meat topping and a side of veggies. It also came with a unique type of bread which was really heavy. This food would definitely fill you up. Hulagirl: The taste of Hawaiian food comes to DC in a food truck. They served up sandwiches and salads. The two sandwiches grilled chicken and steak with assortment of toppings. This truck was also awesome, and definitely unique in what it delivers. Curbside cupcakes: Went for a taste of the red velvet cupcake; delicious! Simplicity Ice cream: Amazing ice cream flavors here; I got a blackberry & Cabernet with a hint of lime ice cream bowl with biscotti; absolutely amazing. Overall, truckeroo was a great event. I feel like the area could have used more seats and benches, especially in the evening, but still it was a great event; good food, good music, good people, and drinks. read more

Went to Truckeroo with some friends last night. We were starving, but it took forever to get food (around 7:30 PM). It was a nice night, and the crowds were giant, There were about 20-25 trucks, and each had a HUGE line, without exception. (Basically, the whole lot was a maze of different lines). Once we got food and drinks and the crowds cleared, we had a good time, the band was good, and it was a nice evening activity However, "The Bullpen" is really a fun time before Nats games. If I am going to go to Navy Yard and pay stadium beer prices, I'd rather just go before a game, when it's a little less crowded, and there is still music and food too. read more

This is a fun event to attend and to try out different DC food truck venders! My only disappointment was that they didn't sell smaller sized/reduced cost items. I wanted to sample all the different vendors, but all of them were severing full meals and I don't like to waste food or money. My Favorites: Main Lobster: The lobster roll was TOTALLY worth the price. I feel like I got a whole lobster. Not just a mash of "maybe lobster" I had whole claws of meat in my roll. Takorean: Bulgohi Tacos? Um, YES. It was delish! That Cheescake Truck: Cheescake on a stick. Brilliant! And the drink lid drip cover is also brilliant. read more

This is a staple of our summer experience in DC -- it's a fun Friday night out with great food and live music, and the entrance is less than twenty feet from the metro. Yes, food trucks are easy to find on a regular day, but the difference here is that you have 25-30 to choose from in one location, rather than feeling compelled to get kebabs because that's the best of the four trucks parked near you. The trucks have you covered regardless of which cuisine or diet you're trying. No matter who you bring along, it's impossible to leave unsatisfied. Seating is almost nonexistent, so I highly recommend bringing your own in the form of camp or lawn chairs. Eating is a lot more civilized (and a lot less messy) when you can sit in an actual chair. read more

A great concept if you never get a chance to check out the food trucks in DC, which I never do. However, you have to be strategic here because the lines are massive. I met one group of people who managed to try three food trucks because they were eating food from one truck while waiting in line for the other, but you have to ask yourself: is that the Truckeroo experience that you want? I tried the curry truck, which was fine. It's more about going for the experience of it all. Plus, you can bring your dog and there's live music. I want to go back so I can try the lobster roll truck and am just going to have to suck up the lines. In terms of getting there, it's right next to a metro stop and there's street parking around the corner so you don't need to worry about that. read more

Go here. It's awesome. I love food truck events, and I hate having to pay an entrance fee. While some of the food can be pricier, and there are definitely huge crowds, this is a must attend event. I love the proximity to the metro and the wide range of choices. I wish the weather here cooperated for this to be a year-round event. read more

Having had some bad experiences at food truck festivals in LA, I was a little skeptical when my sister in law suggested this for lunch. Thankfully we still took her suggestion and had a really pleasant time. There were quite a few people during the lunch rush and a few of the lines got really long, but if you're with friends who can reserve tables and buy drinks while you wait in line, it will make the experience that much better. The Red Hook Lobster Truck was awesome, and probably not coincidentally the longest line. Big Cheese had a killer sandwich with some kind of Jalapeno cheese that I totally inhaled. I could go on but honestly all of the trucks there looked like they had something delicious to serve and they all had some kind of line formed, so you can't really go wrong. Only downsides were the aforementioned long lines, which were made worse because of the sweltering heat, so if you can try to avoid the typical meal rush hours. Also, none of the trucks were selling beverages so you had to purchase drinks at the Bullpen. Otherwise, it was a great experience! read more

Great way to try food trucks if you aren't able to during the work week. Free admission and great location. This is a great idea for an event. I wasn't all that impressed by the food, but I guess if you need to grab a quick bite at lunchtime the food truck will do. I'd go again. read more

I recently went to Truckeroo III in DC and have loved the whole idea since I first heard about it. Some of the food being sold on trucks in DC is delicious and innovative. The variety and creativity of the food can be a blessed relief from the humdrum, wannabe gourmet stuff being served in bricks and mortar restos. Some favorites included El Floridano, TaKorean, Sinplicity, Sol, and Big Cheese. We should all support food trucks because these people are changing our restaurant scene in positive ways and giving restaurant patrons more choices. What's great about Truckeroo is it gives foodies, party people, and music lovers a chance to attend a fun, outdoor event in the city. We don't often get a chance to go to this kind of event unless it's out in the burbs. The band selection each time has been fab, and Jackass Flats' Honky Tonk was really swingin'. What a cool idea it was to make the Navy Yard a destination spot. Using an empty construction zone, at a Metro stop, in a part of town not known for nightlife (other than Nats games), will hopefully spread the entertainment map further afield. The only thing that needs improving is more umbrellas for sun protection, more tables and chairs, and lots more trash cans to avoid mountains of trash. Other than that, you should definitely keep on Truckin'. read more

Almost gave this 2 stars. Many vendors fell short because they simply were unprepared. For a food truck to close down by 2 pm and not reopen for business until 430-5pm is a bit absurd. Honestly, if you aren't open for business after a 30 minute break, I think the truck should be asked to give up their spot. I will give this event another shot but if I miss the next one, I don't think I will go too crazy. But many thanks to Surfside for some awesome fish tacos (and you must use the green sauce they give you b/c it makes the tacos) and pleasant pops for a refreshing peach iced tea and mint heaven. read more

The lobster roll done Connecticut style was buttery and delicious. Recommend bringing a small hand sanitizer for the porter potty use. Towards end of the night the sanitizer ran out. Also tried the Korean tacos spicy pork and it was very spicy and food. We got there about 8pm and some of the food trucks ran out of some of their food but overall it was an enjoyable outdoor fun. The lines were longer so don't come starving. read more

LONG LINES - GREAT FOOD TRUCK FOOD - TOO MANY PEOPLE - EXPENSIVE BEER - AND UMM... BRING A COAT So Truckeroo is an annual event in DC (several events each summer) down by NATs park.. I arrived around 12:30p. The lines were very long and not moving quickly, but no one seemed to really mind. I think more tables were needed and not being allowed to bring drinks or buy from the place you get your meal is pretty crappy. I also think there could have been a few more trucks. With all the trucks that use Twitter to tell you their locations daily, I won't bother attending this event again. You may as well just show up at the one you prefer. read more

For me, Truckeroo was more about the experience than the food (which isn't necessarily a great thing at a food "festival). At Truckeroo VIII (July 2012), I liked that there were so many food trucks from which to choose and in one place. I also liked that there were live bands, even though I didn't listen to them for most of the evening. Downsides: Long lines (helped if you have a lot of friends waiting with you), not necessarily cheap, only the Bullpen can sell drinks (which means there's a mark-up), not enough seating or trash receptacles (although those I did see were being emptied constantly). I sampled: Pleasant Pops, Red Hook Lobster Pound, CapMac, and The Orange Cow (separate reviews for each). All in all, a friendly atmosphere of people out to have a good time and sample some of DC's food trucks. read more

The food was good, not great. The best thing I ate was a taco from Takorean. It was delicious. The desserts from Goodies were a hit. It was a cool venue and the band was great. We arrived at 5:00 and beat the dinner rush. A few trucks were closed but no lines or crowds. As we were leaving the lines were insane. Probably 75 people in Takorean line. We drove in from MD and got meter parking on the same block (because it was early and the Nats were away). Fun night. read more

I was so excited when I heard about Truckeroo and was waiting on pins and needles, counting down the days until the event. You see folks, I have a secret obsession with food trucks but can never seem to catch them during the lunch hour work week. Enter Truckeroo, the answer to my frustration; I mean, what better way to get a taste of all your food truck fantasies? But alas, the event was a huge let down. While I expected huge crowds and insanely long lines, I didn't expect the truckers to run out of food and stop serving. I was really eager to try out the Cap'n Mac truck but they closed up shop before we arrived and left the premises about 20 minutes later. Several other trucks also had to close up early but remained parked there all night. The beverage racket was also a disappointment. I really hated that I forked out that much money for drinks, but there was no other option and it was super hot and the lines were long, and that, my friends, is why it's a racket. Those Das Bullpen folks were raking it in that night. Not cool at all. Especially when the food trucks typically have fun drinks that compliment their food. Hopefully the organizers will learn from this event and tweak a few things before the July event. read more

I went to the first Truckeroo in 2013, and here's the rundown: What I tried -- and btw I didn't order something for myself at each of these! Some of them are just bites that I tried from friends: - Carmen's Italian Ice - vanilla mango-pineapple gelati 10/10, amazing! See review: http://www.yelp.com/biz/carmens-italian-ice-and-cafe-rockville#hrid:jX36wEZv8oGjnoAS9DOabA - DC Empanadas - divine swine empanada 9/10, pulled pork filling was really good - Big Cheese - caprese grilled cheese sandwich 7/10, solid grilled cheese sandwich - Feelin Crabby - crab sliders 7/10, crab filling was delicious - El Floridano - taster Pan con Lechon sandwich 6/10, pork filling was well cooked plus I really liked the spicy guava dressing (I wish they put more on mine) - Red Hook Lobster Rocklands - lobster roll 5/10, meh Luke's Lobster is much better at the same price - Orange Cow - chocolate oreo ice cream 4/10, I did not like the chocolate ice cream and thought that it could be richer, also wish that it was fresher versus a solid block from the freezer for who knows how long - That Cheesecake Truck - cookies and cream cheesecake 4/10, this impression may be biased because I ate something very sweet before this so this tasted too tart in comparison. I did like the smooth texture. Impressions: fun event, crowd is very young/hipster, could use more seating, liked the live music but could be more exciting, water was pricey at $3/bottle and they don't let you bring water in read more

Truckeroo is a new event happening monthly, June through October, in Das Bullpen between Nationals Stadium and Navy Yard Metro Station. Inside the Bullpen, you'll find about two dozen of DC's more interesting food trucks (Eat Wonky, TaKorean, Porc, Sauca, El Floridano, Fojol Bros., Red Hook Lobster Pound, BBQ Bus, CapMac and more) all in one single location from 11AM - 9PM. It's a neat idea - here are all of the trucks I've wanted to try, parked together for lunch, dinner, and all the time in-between! A band was playing on-stage and it was a lovely day to wander around. In theory, good idea. In practice, a few issues: - Beverages. Nearly all of these food trucks serve something interesting to drink - homemade lemonade, specialty sodas, etc. But the deal at Truckeroo is that all beverages must be purchased from a centralized bar that sells overpriced, boring crap. Tiny $3 sodas, mediocre $6 beer. Lame. Now I see what Das Bullpen and the organizers are getting out of it - all of the beverage profits (and drinks almost always have a big profit margin). - Long lines. When we arrived around 4:30, things weren't too bad - a few trucks, like TaKorean, had long lines... but many had no line at all. As the dinner hour approached, things got much worse. And we heard that lunch was insane. These trucks aren't always the fastest, traffic flow can be an issue as food is ordered and picked up, and the crowds on a pleasant day apparently overwhelmed some vendors. - Closed trucks. At 4:30ish, many of the trucks were closed - they didn't stay open between lunch and dinner, and some had run out of food and had to close to replenish their supplies. When the advertised hours are 11AM - 9PM, and half the food is unavailable in the middle of the event, this is an issue. Not sure how this can be fixed, but I'll think carefully about what time I go in the future. Never did get anything from Fojol Bros. - Limited, sunny seating. You're basically in a parking lot closed in with plywood, and they've put a couple dozen picnic tables out for seating. Only half of these have umbrellas. Today was a nice day, but I'd dread the events in July - September. Small groups or singles hog the picnic tables, which could seat 4-6 people, which left most of the crowd without a seat. Not all food truck food is standing-friendly! Fries with cheese and gravy mostly ended up on the ground (and on us) until we talked someone into sharing a table with us. The kicker is that they have a giant canopy tent that would be a great place for shaded seating... and it's a crowd control/emergency exit/beer staging area with no place to sit. All in all, reasonably fun. But it could be better. read more

Only happens once a month, April through October... but when it is... It's the place to be in DC on a beautiful day! Easy to get to, whether driving or taking the metro (navy yard stop) - right next to the Nationals stadium. So many choices... and everything I've tried has been at least "good" if not "ahhhhhmazing"! I have yet to try all of the food trucks but my favorite, so far, is TaKorean - bulgogi bowl w/ napa slaw! They have a pretty good selection of alcoholic beverages to purchase as well, if you so choose. Just be prepared to pay 8-12$/per drink. My only pointer for this event is to go for lunch, and if possible, right around 11am when it opens. Otherwise lines are long, it's harder to grab a picnic table and as evening falls, food runs out. Obnoxious drunks are not unheard-of either. read more

+points for adding two more rows of bench seating and high tables! thank you truckeroo! Though, a little disappointed that several trucks that were listed to make an appearance were nowhere to be found like: Sang On Wheels HulaGirl That Cheesecake Truck Dangerously Delicious I was really looking forward to trying them. I got my hopes up. Sadface. I wasn't as pleased with the quality and taste of food this time around (Truckeroo IV), but maybe it's because I got spoiled with the best trucks last time (Truckeroo II). However, this visit I very much enjoyed the following trucks: El Floridano Fojol Bros. Sinplicity read more

It's the thought that counts. Right? I mean, I like the theme and would give that 5 stars. However, the lines are entirely too long. I'd be better off going to the carry out on South Capitol st and then coming back for the atmosphere. Nothing I had was worth the line. The "fannel" cake or so it was spelled was dry. The pizza was dry. The chicken taco was dry. I heard great reviews about the lobster truck though. They had beer and mixed drinks for sale but I wasn't sold on their vodka and red bull for $10. I most likely wouldn't go back but it was cool running into many high school friends, not as many transients there as I predicted. Cool date night though fellas, long lines make for great conversation. read more

I've been to truckeroo a few times. Normally with friends, but I've been there on a date as well. Each and every time was a blast. It's a nice setting for all. Who doesnt want to pick from 25+ food trucks, drink, and hear live music. Luckily I work in DC and get off between 3/4. That's a good time to go if your main objective is food. After about 6/7 it gets TOO crowded. The lines are long and the trucks start to run out of their popular items. Most people go there to socialize so they don't mind the late crowd. If you're going with your coworkers for a quick bite after work, friends, or on a date, it's better to go on the earlier end so you can enjoy the company and the trucks. After a while, the millennials take over and get drunk and wanna eat everything lol. Some people did have their dogs which was pretty cute. But after a while, it was too packed for almost anything. There are a lot of bathrooms. The beers are expensive, like most festivals, but make for a good time. A lot of the trucks accept credit cards, but I still try to bring cash. That's mainly to police myself from spending too much lol. I normally beeline for the daq shaq, to get a frozen daiquiri from their truck. DC Slices and Feelin' Crabby are also a few of my favorites. Cant forget Orange Cow for dessert! read more

Great event! I love the idea of bringing all these food trucks together. I don't work in DC (or anywhere else the trucks would congregate), so having so many of them here all in one day is perfect. I missed the April Truckeroo this year, but I'm trying to attend all of them this summer. I really enjoy being able to go from truck to truck and sample different foods. I usually go sometime between 2pm and 4pm (never in the evening). I never usually have trouble finding seating, and most trucks are open (though some close for a few hours between lunch and dinner). There's live (free) music all day and it's a good place to meet up with friends or colleagues. I would not recommend going anytime after 6pm as I hear it gets really crowded (limited seating, long lines, and apparently some trucks run out of dishes??) My favorite trucks are Curbside Cupcakes, Red Hook Lobster, DC Empanadas, Surfside, and Pho Wheels (though I have not tried them all). Overall, this is a great event to hang out with friends, get a drink and a bite to eat, and listen to some live music. I highly recommend you go early if you want to beat the crowds. read more

Great variety of food trucks here once a month during the warmer months (April through October). I finally came for the first time during their last one of the 2013 year and it was awesome! I was glancing over reviews and don't understand why people are complaining about the food in some reviews and decreasing their rating because of it. This Yelp site is for TRUCKEROO itself, not the separate vendor's food trucks and their food quality. If you want to complain about the food (and lower the stars on the Truckeroo page), find the truck's Yelp page! Lol. Anyway, I loved TaKorean the best. It was such a long line though! I also had DC Empanadas (not impressed and overpriced), Sinplicity Ice Cream (had the mango/lime/cinnamon sorbet -- SOOO good; didn't taste the cinnamon at all), and Cole's Palette (good if you like chicken and waffles; I am personally not that big of a fan). Overall, Truckeroo is a great concept! read more
