Truckeroo? In June, the first monthly gathering of D.C.'s finest food trucks was more like a giant Clusterf*c*eroo. The lines were long, the tables were sparse, and the trucks were the predictable favorites. Not that I don't love Curbside Cupcakes, but there were not even the promised on the website amount of trucks. And July's second offering was a Pressyourluckeroo. It was the exact same trucks as the first time. In fact, I almost didn't go the third time since I had then eaten at every truck that I had wanted to. That would have been my loss since the third one finally lived up its "aroo" name (after the giant celebration of music and fun in Tennessee, Bonnaroo). The biggest improvement was they invited the Arlington trucks instead of just the D.C. ones. Therefore, there were trucks there I had never even heard of let alone tried. And the music was better as well. The first two times it was the same cover band playing to an empty "dance floor" (which probably could have been used for more tables). The third time it was a swinging rockabilly cover band. But the question remains of what reason is there to go to Truckeroo over just waiting for the food trucks separately? Even though someone can try more of the trucks at once, all of them serve their usual portions. Meaning they're complete lunches. Large groups willing to share will benefit, but what about the rest of us? One lunch and one dessert fill me up. The trucks should really consider Taste of Truckeroo portions. The point is to get people addicted, right? Every drug dealer knows a taste of a product is enough! But the biggest problem is not the trucks' fault. The venue won't let the trucks sell beverages (or let customers bring in water) so they can make money. Frankly, I'd rather pay a .25 cent surcharge on each food item that went to Das Bullpen and not have to throw out my water bottle upon entry. Until this draconian rule is lifted, I am withholding the fourth star. Maybe they'll "improve" this condition by the fourth installment. The past has shown they'll try. read more

I can see how this event could be hit or miss, so I would definitely put all the dates on the calendar and go whenever these 2 conditions are met: 1. the weather is good 2. you're available to go for lunch/early afternoon We lucked out since it was unseasonably cold for April, and we got there right at 11am when it started, so there were no lines, ample seating, and room to breathe. We got to enjoy our food hot and probably fresher than if we had gone for dinner on a warmer day. FYI beverages will be ballpark prices since they're sold through the Bullpen and not the trucks themselves. I would not go out of my way for the food if I was gonna be braving rush hour to trek to SE and then wait in long lines to awkwardly eat food standing shoulder to shoulder. However, for lunch/happy hour it was a lot of fun! read more

YASSSSSSSSSSS!!!!! Since Taste of DC wasn't about that life, my friend and I decided to trek out here instead. It's near Nationals Park, and I didn't get to put my paws on Bryce Harper. Quel dommage. Although it was considered to be a "smaller" Truckeroo, it did not disappoint! We waited for the poutine spot to open for a while and we were getting hangry. We were saved by DC Tapas Truck right next to it. It was pretty orgasmic. The vodka lemonade a few stalls down really hit the spot. We were glad we stuck around for Urban Poutine to open. Neither one of us had had poutine before, so we can say we popped our poutine cherry here. Fries, cheese curds, and gravy. Awesome sauce. read more

TWO Lao food sources? This is a sure sign that DC is truly an international foodie town! Truckeroo is a food truck gathering and "street fair" event in a "soon to be developed" block across the street from Navy Yard metro. Great for the food trucks, great for the SE area, but what happens when the building is finished? Do the food trucks get "brick and mortar" in the building? As the moon rose, the sun sank, the music played, and the foodie fest continued in the "yard" -- the combination of bright lights, fence and TV crews on the roof made me feel that we were in a prison yard... with only beer, port-a-potties and food trucks to entertain us. I went for the shortest lines. I went to King LSU's (don't know the real name) truck of New Orleans food. Had the shrimp etouffee and "Cochon... po'boy." The cold shrimp in gravy on rice was bad so I tossed my $8 away. The shreds of dried pork in subway roll was okay but not worth $8 for a few nibbles of chewy pork. So, I wandered around hungry and came across a yellow truck with small writing on the side with the words, "Sang on Wheels: Lao Cuisine: www.sangonwheels.com" and enormous meatballs on huge steaming containers of food... being deadweight lifted past my nose... I got it. It was Drunken Noodles with beef balls on stick... the combo for $8. I couldn't finish the two pounds of food. I stood nearby so that I could trigger the buying passions of passersby. Get there early because the lines get tremendously long at the best trucks. AND, another reason to get there early is to get the food you want because lots of the trucks run out of certain things (i.e. Hula Girl quickly runs out of Spam Musubi)... but honestly, how much did you think they could fit in the truck? Of course there's a limited amount of food! In any case, it's a fun time... drinks can be pricey ($6 for a can of beer) and $3 for a bottle of water (yikes). But the atmosphere is fun. The evening I went there was a band performing. They played covers of popular songs right now, which was fun. Lots of little kids dancing around the stage. Notes: 1. Pet friendly! 2. Minimal seating 3. Lots of good food! 4. Bring cash because although some trucks do take credit cards, not all of them do, and drinks are cash only. 5. Free admission read more

Definitely a big fan! My friend and I took the day off and planned for this amazing event held at the Fairgrounds once a month in the summer. We got there right as it opened (no BS taken...food is serious business man). 11 am...the trucks were ready, lined up and you can just smell EVERYTHING....I'm not going to review the food trucks because this is a review for the event itself, but i will mention my favorites in the end. The facility was well kept, clean tables and there was a good rotation of people coming in and out, so it was crowded but not overwhelmingly sardine situation. Like i mentioned earlier, i got there at 11am, because i've heard the trucks would run out of food if you come later in the day - FALSE. I recommend getting there around 2:00-2:30 pm, after the lunch rush, pick a nice day and have a friend stake down seating for you (and a friend). The food trucks have been doing this for a few years now that i think they know the amount of crowd they expect. i definitely am going back to try the other tucks i didn't get to try. a few favorites (not in any particular order) -Badabing -TaKorea -Tapas (corn fritters FTW!) -Surfside For the quality and freshness of the food i tasted being cooked and prepped in those colorful trucks...it's pretty darn DELICIOUS! Can't wait to go back :) read more

If it's good enough for local chef Carla Hall of Top Chef fame, it's good enough for me (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/I7Wob4u9QiFW9744I2xpmQ?select=ENC1Ind7hhZj8L6LLaFPdg)! She said she'd never eaten from a D.C. food truck before and was eager to give some a try. Her first stop was the Fojol Brothers! Aside from needing more seating and more shade (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/I7Wob4u9QiFW9744I2xpmQ?select=QX-K4h-y2_izOtRw6Xj3EQ), Truckeroo's a great time and a festive way to indulge in 20-some kinds of food in a single day. Awesome for groups, 'cause there's something for everyone! Plus, cornhole! (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/I7Wob4u9QiFW9744I2xpmQ?select=vvWVP3nOe34Tm1FiIf2AOQ) Come around 2:30-4:30 for the shortest lines. And don't be fooled by extra long lines--they don't necessarily indicate deliciousness! We saw Takorean hold onto the longest line in the place for a couple hours and figured hey, clearly all these people know something we don't. Over a half hour later, we handed over $9 for 3 mini tacos (pork, beef, and tofu: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/I7Wob4u9QiFW9744I2xpmQ?select=0Bsc4rWwMUW3if-61KG25w), all mediocre and tasting remarkably similar except for the flavor of hoisin that the tofu'd been marinated in. I asked a few other line-waiters why they were waiting, and they all said because they figured with such a long line, the tacos must be worth it! They didn't know something we didn't--none of us knew anything! Beware of such a trap. The winners for me were Pleasant Pops and their refreshing popsicles made from fresh local fruit (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/I7Wob4u9QiFW9744I2xpmQ?select=4amYvEXgCyGNuQAQekvtxw), and Cap Mac's Cheez-It-crumble-sprinkled classic mac 'n' cheese, which was surprisingly rich in sharp cheesy flavor and took on a pleasant crunch with the Cheez-It crumbles (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/I7Wob4u9QiFW9744I2xpmQ?select=JSxRWs97ari-WDjHZM27Ig). I'm not a big cupcake fan, but the Cookies & Cream milkshake from Curbside Cupcakes (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/I7Wob4u9QiFW9744I2xpmQ?select=AD32xJgOBtdfdNdSNJY0iQ) absolutely hit the spot. The newest truck there, the Cajunator, was having it's debut at Truckeroo, and their Shrimp Po' Boy was just okay, much better when I ate just the filling without the un-exciting and too-crusty french baguette (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/I7Wob4u9QiFW9744I2xpmQ?select=7fL8wlCM-3ZbBECJVXtXuw). The owner (I believe) painting mini-murals on his truck all day, however, was awesome (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/I7Wob4u9QiFW9744I2xpmQ?select=-Q2BODyVQBmgR1PPA7PulQ). He posed for several photos and wanted to see all of them on my camera, which was pretty endearing. Kind of like the Fojol Bros, whose fake mustaches allow them to get fresh with you even when your husband is taking the picture (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/I7Wob4u9QiFW9744I2xpmQ?select=TigJSYlLEPQHWfrSjki3Eg). ****Truckeroo is held once a month during the summer (June-October) at Das Bullpen by Nationals Stadium. It's right across from the Navy Yard metro exit, where the Biergarten is after Nats games. ****Bring your own drinks! There's no free water. Plenty of alcohol for purchase, however, if you're 21+. Truckeroo is a great event. Depending on who cuts your paycheck, chances are you are no where near DC's great food trucks come lunch time. That is certainly the case with me. A friend told me about this place last minute on a Friday and I rearranged my evening to make it there. I wasn't disappointed. It's a great mix of interns, staffers, and contractors in the 22-35 age range. Beer can be a little expensive at $8 but at least they're 16 oz tall boys, to include imports. I am not going to get into the merits of each truck. Think about what you like to eat and try it. Maybe go with a friend or two, so you can try different things. I will recommend checking some of the write ups by the food blogs on Truckeroo. I ate at the BBQ bus and had a pound of pulled pork. I intended to get a 3 meat combo plate, but they ran out of everything but the pulled pork. The bbq was pretty good and I tried all 4 sauces, #5 was the best. Later on in the evening I tried the El Floridano's and their pork sandwich. It was so good. Capped off the evening with a ginger-mango popsicle from Pleasant Pops, really good. I was surprised by how much i liked it. It was a really nice night, everyone was friendly and looking to enjoy themselves. I think they probably could've found a better band, but all in all, it was a great event. I would love to see a "Taste of Truckeroo" I would like to be able to try smaller portions of everything. Sell a bunch of tickets and limit the patrons. Someone get on that! read more

I really like truckaroo! It happens about once a month around spring and ends right before fall and typically goes on from 11am to 11pm. Theres about a boat load of food trucks from burgers to halal to koren bbq to lobster and other notable eats. If you are a vegan tho better eat something light before you arrive because theres not too many options for vegans. The average price for food is about $8-12 bucks. For mixed alcoholic drinks they had vodka, dark and light rum which were $9 and up plus $3 for an extra shot. They also had beer and nonalcoholic drinks as well but not sure the cost. The drinks were not strong at all. But you can hit buffalo wild wings for some strong drinks across the street if you really, really, really need to get a buzz. There are a number of seating areas but if you can find an empty spot for a group grab it. But you will find almost everyone walking around and eating. There are some seats that are right near the entrance in front of the live band which play a variety of music. The entrance is right across the street from the navy yard metro. (Next to buffalo wild wings) which makes is really easy to get to by metro. Driving is fine if you can find parking. I find its best to go around 7pm if you dont mind crowds. read more

20 trucks in one location serving a variety of the capitol area's trendiest food? Count me in! After jealously looking through Facebook food truck photos from friends who are lucky enough to work in DC and frequent these trucks for lunch, this was my opportunity to visit them all at once. The weather was perfect outside, with the cool night air and a clear sky above. I went after work on Friday, July 15 around 7PM with 2 other eating buddies and was able to sample food from 4 trucks (Red Hook Lobster Pound, Sauca, DC Empanadas, and TaKorean). Going to these events require a whole new strategy and approach to eating! 1. Go with 3-4 people in order to best distribute waiting time in lines. 2. Figure out which food trucks must be sampled. 3. Battle the crowd and wait in line at the food truck you've been assigned by group decision. 4. Some lines will move faster than others, so your friends will likely be able to come back to you with some provisions while waiting in your insanely long line (ahem, Red Hook, TaKorean, and Sauca). 5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until your legs get sore from standing idly, the food trucks run out of food, or closing time ~10 to 11PM. *Note:This strategy is most useful if you go later in the day and you don't have much time to linger around before closing, or if you're insanely hungry. On to the food! Red Hook Lobster Pound: $15/lobster roll. Bought 2 rolls, one Maine-style with mayo served cold and one Connecticut-style with butter served warm. Both were delicious, but preference goes to the Maine-style as it was more refreshing to the palate. Expensive, but delicious. Wait time approximately 30-40 mins. Sauca: I can't recall exactly what we ordered here but they were out of chicken and pork by the time we got in line. We got some type of shredded meat served between two corn cakes and yucca fries for a total of $10. Meat was moist and nicely flavored. Yucca fries were drizzled with a mayo based sauce. Wait time approximately 30-40 mins. DC Empanadas: Again, cannot recall what was ordered, not very memorable, but it was tasty. Wait time approximately 20 minutes. TaKorean: 3 tacos for $9. We tried one of each: Bulgogi Steak, Tangy Chicken, and Carmelized Tofu. Overall, the tacos were too sweet and did not provide any authentic flavors. The Spicy Kimchi Style Slaw was a big miss as they used fresh cabbage instead of the real, fermented kimchi. Wait time was an insanely long 1 hr+. The atmosphere is very festive and the crowd was mostly young professionals! Overall, it was a great experience and I may be back to try some of the other trucks I missed (with hopefully shorter lines). read more

Crowded but cool. Live music, lots of food choices, not much seating a few picnic tables. People had children which I thought it wasn't much space or much for them to do but it was okay. I had fun just being out, eating and drinking in the city. Food trucks: 1.lobster truck 2. Boa - duck and other Asian dishes 3. Cheese steak 4. Crepe 5. Pizza 6. Seafood 7. Ice cream 8. Frozen daiquiri 9. Tobacco truck 10. Bulgogi truck They also had a bar area... that had very basic drinks should have expanded on this read more

This is still a fun time but the food truck selection is starting to go downhill and the lack of seating can get annoying. Get there early to get a place to sit and check the website to see if you're interested in the trucks before you head out there. read more

I'm on my third trip to truckeroo in three months, and it gets better every time. The only way it could be better is if i knew what trucks would be there, and honestly i don't know that there isn't. Thats something i need to research. Each truck brings its own unique flavor to the event, and a truck with nice sized crowds around it is are usually a good sign depending on what you're in the mood for. I can't wait to go back next month. Its a great experience for families, and foodies alike. If you're interested i have reviewed a few of the trucks i have eaten from. Feel free to check em out. read more

I love the creativity of small businesses! Where else can you get a korean taco, a canadian poutine and the best lasagna, without a trip to the airport. If calories weren't a factor I'd eat and stay longer. I'm grateful to Truckeroo for saving me the hassle of chasing down these meals-on-wheels in the city. Who has the time? Though, i must admit I have added a few to my twitter feed. =) Foodies Unite!! In search of good eats, people were eager to share tips on their latest and tastiest finds. I'm sad that Truckeroo is over for the year but next year I won't make the mistake of waiting til the last day! read more

It was my first time at Truckeroo, and I was geeked! I mean, this is supposed to be like a foodie's wet dream, right? The crowd size was average; and, although they had a live band, I wasn't really feeling the music. I guess the earlier hours don't really call for much excitement on the main stage. I wanted to compliment the young ladies at the Hurricane stand. They never had a line, so I wasn't sure what to make of that. They made decent drinks, but you really have to pay the $3 for that extra shot to get a buzz. I mean, I know we're not supposed to be falling out during the middle of the day; but, to just get 'nice', you'd need about 3 drinks. Anyway, on to the food. Truck #1. That's the Caribbean Cafe. I know better... I really do. When you order jerk wings, and you don't smell a t'ing, that should serve as a warning. The rice & peas were okay. The plantains were great. The jerk was cooked in such a way that it was oven-baked, with jerk seasoning slathered across in the marinade as an afterthought.... maybe? I mean, it was tasty. That's not jerk, though. Truck #2. That's Red Hook. They have the hook and bait. I got caught. It was good. My wallet was lighter..... and my stomach was not heavier. I think that lobster roll fits neatly in the palm of my hand. I like butter. I do. I understand the economics of it all. I may just buy a ticket to Maine, and indulge in the future. Well, at least I fulfilled my heart's desire. Truck #3. I'm just about ready to run out to the corner & pray for a funnel cake or soul food truck to pull up on the block, when I spot a cute little paper tray filled with the most heavenly scent. Tapas. Tapas? Am I about to go for broke, trying to get full? I ordered the garlic fries with shrimp. I asked for the white & red sauce. Yessss!!! I don't know if I'd have the same reaction on any other day, in a regular dining environment... but yesssss! I knew I would be satisfied. Perfectly seasoned, and crispy. I mean, fried shrimp, french fries, garlic, cilantro, white sauce..... it had to be good! I don't eat like that often, so, it's a treat for me, at least. Overall, the festival was pretty good. I'd go back. I never had an issue finding seating *early in the day*. I'd like to have a few more activities to occupy the awkward moments in between phases of digestion. Please review the bands of choice next time. read more

It's BACK B@&$ES!!!! Yes that excited and have no shame about it. When you work in the area with its vast amount of food options...hope u picked up the sarcasm coming your way! You can only "eat fresh" at Subway so many times, so when Truckeroo returns the level of hype you experience is unparalleled. Mass emails circulated the office, phone calls, I may have yelled across cubicle nation to rally the troops to converge onto this wonder of food truck glory! Opening day did not disappoint...several favorites had returned, few new truck faces, music, and grand prize of them all...increased seating!!!! Thank you heavens above because while I have perfected the art of stand eating I prefer to park it to really chow down! All in all glad to have you back Truckeroo...visit more often & stay a lil longer! read more

What is not to love at Truckeroo?! A great spread of food trucks all at one location. The lines can be pretty long, but that comes with it. And really, they don't take that long. It is about the experience. Talking with your friends while you wait. Meeting new people while you wait. Nats Stadium lcoation is good too. Truckeroo - Festivals Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

Truckeroo is pretty straightforward. Location: the Bullpen, right by Nationals Park. Cost: Free to get in, you pay for what you want. So whilst enjoying a beverage and playing corn hole, be prepared to peruse the food trucks that are lined all around the Bullpen. If you're not into crowds, the smell of fried food, and just open space to wander, mingle, and eat, then Truckeroo is not for you. If you can handle all of that, please keep reading :) Truckeroo has a variety of food trucks that participate. Now I realize that food trucks are not that uncommon now, especially if you work in DC. But if you don't work in DC and/or just visiting, Truckeroo is a fantastic opportunity to sample some of the flavors of DC. The food trucks change depending on the event. FYI: Truckeroo is once a month during the spring and summer months so make sure you stop and try something new. You can try Korean BBQ, then a lobster roll, then Cheesecake on a stick (not necessarily in that order)?!?! What's not to love? read more

We arrived when it opened, so there wasn't a long wait for anything and we had our pick of tables. However, I am giving it only three stars because a large number of the trucks weren't open when Truckaroo started. Also, it get three stars since a number of trucks that usually accept credit cards decided not to during the event and it was hard to identify which ones did or didn't before you got right up to the window to order. Totally could use a little more organization. read more

DOG FRIENDLY (Well socialied dogs that can handle big crowds and loud noises- and doesnt eat everything off the floor; bring water and waterbowl, unless you like paying for bottle water for your dog) Haha - really, thats all i needed the other reviews to say when i first looked this up. But what fun! Yummy exciting new food, great social gathering spot. Drink, play cornhole, listen to music. It was a great time!! Only thing i can say is bring a group; divide and conquer ... get a little bit of everything, because they serve their regular sized portions so if you mean to try them all, utilize sharing. Be prepared, you may have to get into some long lines. I went late evening and though some trucks were wiping things off the menu, i was still feasting on the other trays, boxes, and handheld nom noms. read more

Truckeroo is a great way to sample various food trucks. The only issue is the lines. Unfortunately most of the best trucks have lines that are an hour or more. People can also easily cut the line because it's hard to tell where the line even begins, ends, and everything in between. I did sample quite a few items- everything from grilled cheese to empanadas to cupcakes to a lobster roll- and really enjoyed everything. I would come early to avoid some of the lines. If you don't mind waiting, you can grab a beer at one of the many bars and sip while you wait in line drooling for some Korean tacos. read more

Last night was my second outing to Truckeroo. Having learned my lesson about bringing my precious children last year, I opted instead to venture out with my girlfriend for a pre-Mother's Day, "We're gonna eat like hobo's" girl's nite out. Parking, for us, was easy and free. We just hightailed ourselves to the Navy Yard and used our military id's (hey! Yesterday was also military spouse appreciation day!). We walked the few blocks to the Nats bullpen and endured the painfully slow process of being tagged like cattle by one of the "doormen". It wasn't slow because of a line, mind you. It was slow because homeboy was the direct descendant of a sloth. This guy had no sense of urgency. In we go to make the once over of our choices. We passed up the insanely long lines at the Korean trucks and landed at the fish taco truck. We both split the chicken and steak tacos and managed to find a hidden spot behind the cheesesteak truck to eat in peace. Then we were found out and people crashed our spot. We grabbed ourselves a piña colada and daiquiri (both watered down) and tried our luck at something else. After facing he reality that a minimum of half an hour in ANY line was inevitable, we opted to leave to salvage what was left of our mom's nite out. We couldn't bear the thought of wasting our one night out without kids and hubby's waiting in lines. Overall, Truckeroo is best experienced very early in the day or by those too wasted to care about the lines. read more

Truckeroo = Mob Mentality at it's worse. "Hey look! Tons of people standing in line! I need to be in that line too!" Don't get me wrong, food trucks are great. But this event is not. Recap - Wait in Line to get in. Have jack ass tell us we can't bring water in with us. Of course not. If you want a drink you have to buy it from the vendors. Oh wait, the food trucks don't serve drinks. Want a drink? Stand in another ridiculously long line and pay at least 3 bucks. Onto the food. The hits of the event are the Tacorean truck, The Lobster Roll truck, and some other Taco truck. Some people were walking around with some great looking soft shell crab tacos, but I never got to taste them. I waited half an hour in that line and it didn't move 1 inch. The truck was in chaos and I didn't see any food leaving it for at least 20 minutes, yet people stayed in the line. Sabora Street was the name of it. My girlfriend waited over an hour in the Tacorean truck. She got us both a set of 3 tacos. Not terrible, but for the wait, it's one of the least impressed I've ever been with food. Not one hint of authentic Korean flavor. I don't eat lobster but the meal worm sized "rolls" I saw people running around with hardly looked like they were worth waiting over an hour for. Some of the trucks without an hour + wait had some decent food to offer. If I had it to do over again I would have grabbed a $4 slice from DC Slice and a Wonky Dog and called it a day. Oh, and don't forget about the obnoxious yuppies everywhere! Drunken, line jumping yuppies. "Look, someone we know! That means we can get in line with them! **** everyone behind us who has been waiting an hour for some food." Don't fall for the hype. If you like food trucks, seek them out on an individual basis. Don't waste your time in this money trap. Do yourself a favor and avoid the bros in their plaid shorts and foot gloves and popped collars. And ignore the "I'm giving it 5 stars cuz it's trendy" reviews. In reality, Truckeroo is hell on earth. read more

Truckeroo used to be my spot, but it's gone down hill over the last few years as word has gotten out. The selection of trucks is good, but there are a few issues. The first of which is that the trucks are serving full sized portions, which is fine if you only want to eat off of one truck, but after one full sized portion, you are done for the day, or maybe you'll'll hit one more truck. Also, the lines after the 5' O'clock whistle blow get ridiculous. Imagine waiting in line for an hour, only to find out that the truck is out of your selection. After five O'clock, the minimum wait is thirty minutes. Seating options are extremely limited. Try juggling your $4 lemonade (the trucks aren't allowed to sell drinks), or $8 dollar vodka lemonade (overpriced), and eating your meal standing, not a good look. Oh yeah, the I.D dudes at the front can be rude. Dude, I'm 40, I think I'll be okay lol. On the positive side, the food is good, and it's a cheap day or night out in DC. Parking on the street is usually not a problem. If your going, bring enough friends so that you can double team the lines, and split the food to try as Many trucks as possible without gorging yourself. I would also recommend coming earlier in the day to avoid the crowds and soul crushing lines. read more

Truckeroo is fantastic! I work at the Navy Yard, and food trucks do park in the area regularly, but to get your pick of 15+ different food trucks all in one place is great! They have corn hole boards set up, a beer stand, and live music. And of course, food trucks!! The variety is awesome, and the DC lottery truck even made it's debut today. The two most popular trucks seem to be Red Hook Lobster and Takorean, so if you want to try either of those, make sure to get there early and be prepared to wait. Otherwise, the lines at the other trucks seem to move pretty fast. It is frustrating that some of the trucks are not ready to go right at 11. The lines build up as the lunch crowd rolls in, and some of the trucks aren't even serving yet. This happened to me today. I got there right at 11 and got in line to try Takorean, and they didn't even start serving until about 11:20. Of course, by then, their line was huge. Overall, this is a great summertime party. Grab your friends and swing over for happy hour if you don't work in the area...you'll thank me! read more

It wasn't hard to find this event at all because it was right at the center of M street. They did a pretty good job at organizing the event and the food vendors. The line wasn't long to get in at all but they had a lot of security outside which is a good thing. One thing I didn't like much is that the food trucks are all over the places, It was hard to find which is which over all those crowded people. I wish they organized like certain specific food is in one location and others are somewhere else. They do have many other cool events like taking photo shoots for free, corn holes, live musics and drinks. The line for each food truck was kind of hard to figure out since everyone was all over the places, but I guess there's nothing else they can do to fix that. I will definitely come back for the next event. P.S: the event usually runs from 11am to 11pm on a friday. read more

Every 3rd Friday of the month it's time to come out and play! I work right across the street from the Truckeroo location and it's a BIG refresher from the not-so-many choices by the Navy Yard/Stadium. Music, food, drink....and CORNHOLE. Standard food truck prices. It's almost like the town fair! read more

I thought this was such a good idea and it was such a great time! Got there right at 5:30 and grabbed a beer and played some cornhole, while listening to the live band of course) - cant beat a beer, cornhole, and live music on a nice day :} Got one of the most delicious cupcakes ever at the Sweetbites truck while waiting for the last member of our crew to arrive and then stood in line at the lobster truck - I wanted Takorean, but the line was too long to stand in alone and my friends wanted lobster. After we got our food and another beverage, we sat down at one of the many crowded picnic tables and enjoyed our food. Then we got another cupcake, yes - the same one we got before, thats how good it was. It was a great way to spend a Friday night! My only suggestion for improvement would be more picnic tables! read more

I recently attended my 1st Truckeroo event and I had a good time, so here goes: Pros: -Beer and margaritas are available for purchase - The stands are located throughout the Bullpen and everytime I went for a drink I didn't have to wait very long. -Several of the food trucks accept card - AWESOME! -Live bands -Porter potties (Not exactly something to rave about, but when you gotta go, you gotta go.. Haha) -20+ food trucks, so if you go with a group of friends that all want something different then this is the perfect place! Cons: -HUGE lines for every food truck - So be ready to wait -Not exactly the best quality food because personally I think the food trucks in NYC are much better -Be ready to drop a few bills - In NYC the food trucks definitely give you more All in all I had a good time, I arrived at about 8ish and I thought it would be less crowded, but I was definitely wrong. I literally waited and an hour and 30 minutes for 1 truck (yes, I timed it!), but I was in good company so no biggie. Happy Grubbing! read more

So....Truckeroo...the first time I was supposed to go was last summer when I got stood up by the person who was supposed to meet me - BURN. So understandably, I was gunshy about attending again. Sorry, Truckeroo, it's me not you. Anyways I finally made my way there this summer, meeting a tried and true dining friend. It's located in a place that's called "The Bullpen" during Nats games. Big, outdoor, caged in area, essentially. The decoration here consists of cargo containers, which I continually find puzzling. Is that supposed to mean something? Who really considers cargo containers an adequate decoration? Besides that, it's a good location for Truckeroo, though it can get crowded in busy hours. I got there around 6 PM and the lines weren't that long, but by 7:00 PM there were lines to the end of the block to even get in, and by 8:30 PM the lines for the food trucks were basically unmanageable. At some of the trucks that have slower service traditionally, it probably would have taken over an hour to get your food. Sooo...what I'm saying is that you should time your visit well! Although I know some people go in the mid-afternoon between lunch and dinner, a number of trucks close then, so best to doublecheck before you head out. Foodwise, before the last Truckeroo, they posted the truck lineup on facebook a day before the event, so if you "like" Truckeroo on FB you can stay on top of which trucks will be there. The list they posted differed a bit from the final lineup, but it's a good place to start if you want to scope out potential trucks on Yelp before you go. Also, for whatever reason, many of the food trucks there weren't allowed to sell drinks. So you're stuck with the drink options of the permanent stands at the Bullpen. Seating is an issue, espcially at busy times. We ended up standing on the top deck and people watching, but if you want to sit, you'll probably have to share with others. Also, they have live music, which tends to be pretty good, though loud. Kids and dogs are welcome, and were there in abundance. Finally, the food! My friend and I tried Basil Thyme (review upcoming on their Yelp page) and Curbside Cupcakes. Ultimately, a trip to Truckeroo is about the experience. Very yummy. So scope it out, plan your visit, and you'll walk away happy. read more

I really enjoyed my time at Truckeroo. I love the idea of getting to choose what you want and having dozens of options. There are all types of foods. Cupcakes, Vegetarian, Indian, Ethiopian, Cajun, Korean. I mean, it was great! Go with a very empty stomach and a game plan for seating. You may also want to get there earlier. The lines are shorter and the people aren't morphing into gremlins. Definitely try the curbside cupcakes. Their snickerdoodle cupcake has made me a stalker fo life! read more

The one i went to was the Truckerboo halloween edition. It was alright. I thought it was free, but when we got there we were FORCED to pay $1 EACH. WTF. It was a cold cold day and hardly anyone was there around 2pm. Tons of food trucks were there but I could only try 2: Basil Thyme and Takorean. Basil Thyme def was the winner. I have a separate review for them. Takorean was aight...it was bursting with flavor and it wasn't as bad as people made it sound but maybe cuz it was doused in sauces. So messy to eat. Those tacos are impossible to eat without getting messy. Yeah i dont think they should have Truckeroo so late in the year when its freezing. They should just move it to indoor place or at least have some heating lamps. Great concept but poorly executed. read more

Lucky for us enjoying some jazz at Yards park, we were able to catch Truckeroo in the "pregame area at Nats Park." Great place to sample food fare from DC food trucks. Lots to try and you're not the only one, this place gets crowded and attracts the masses and obviously the more popular food trucks will have lines from here to guam. (ie TaKorean- just hit them up in Union Market if the line is too much for you). Lots of vendors, lots of food and drink options, lots of people watching FREE for the cost of whatever your stomach fancies. read more

Great opportunity to try food trucks. For those of us who work outside the major food truck districts, this is a godsend. It's better to go for lunch of course - shorter lines, fresher food - but I love that they're open late enough to go for dinner. One major problem is they won't let you bring in your own water. It's hot out there, and lines can be VERY long - I heard TaKorean gets to be over an hour. If you're by yourself, you have to beg someone to save your spot in line so you can go spend ridiculous amounts of money on water. They don't allow vendors to sell any beverages, so you have to wait in a separate line for a drink. Not good - I assume it's Bullpen rules, but this is an unusual event. In general, I really love Truckeroo and I'll make time to get over there every month! read more

This was epic, a great option to have food truck food for something other than lunch, and a great location. Really enjoyed being able to go from truck to truck and sample all the different options. Can't wait to go again next month. Only criticism: the lines are LONG (at least they were from 8pm-10pm). Recommend going late or early, or somehow make it so the food trucks can prepare the food faster. read more

What an awesome idea! Legions of tasty food trucks in the container box yards outside Nats stadium, live rock/country band playing, and a massive variety of food trucks to choose from! THE GOOD: Get a Pleasant Pop for dessert! Omg I had a Vegan coconut mexican chocolate bar and it was pure awesomeness. THE BAD: Lines can be long! Budget a fair amount of time to do business at Truckeroo. This is not an hour-long lunch affair... YE BE WARNED: strangely, not really a whole lot of seating! Don't be afraid to claim open table space on an already occupied table. People are pretty friendly! read more

At this point most people have heard of Truckeroo, possibly even gone yourself. Somehow I was never in town for one until the very last one this summer. I'm definitely a fan of the food truck generation were in, so. Was excited to try a few quick bites from a few places. When I walked in I immediately recognized the space from attending a few ball games. It's a large space with tons of food trucks lined up and down the min row. Thre were also an abundance of bars that served wine, beer and a few other premixed drinks. They were all great prices (I think my beer was $6) and the line was never long. The food trucks were a whole different story. The lines of most of the trucks were massively long. Like you-might-starve-before-you-make-it-to-the-truck long. I know that's no fault of the food trucks; who doesn't want a line for their food?! I came around 7, so I just suggest getting their early. All of the food I tried was delicious. It was awesome to experience so many different flavors just a few feet from each other. Seating was limited; which wouldn't be as annoying if there were bars or tables to put something down. It's hard to hold your food and drink at the same time. And who wants one without he other?! I'll definitely be back if Truckeroo returns next summer. I'll just be sure to go earlier, maybe lunch time. read more

Had a ball. Bring your sunscreen and an empty stomach. Awesome food & treats. Water is $3 read more

Truckeroo - Chorizo- tapas truck - Festivals Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

See all

This place is in SE DC which isn't the greatest area, right near the Nats Stadium. There are tons of food trucks all with long lines. We were IDed at the entrance. Trucks include a lot of fusion food, in addition to crepes, bbq, cupcakes, etc. However, the trucks and drinks are overpriced and the location is way too crowded and loud. Live music. Nowhere to sit. Probably fun if you're a college student or young professional with a group. Best thing to do is get a group of friends, split up and buy different things, and try each others' selections. read more

Truckeroo - Festivals Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

So.... extremely long lines for food trucks that are regulars on the food truck routes in DC, no seating, and packed crowds. How is this fun? All the food trucks that show up are seen regularly during the week and without the massively long lines that you see here. I suppose going during off hours would help. Maybe people like it because you can drink? If you are able to go to Farrugut West, Metro Center, L'Enfant, or Union Station during the weekday lunch rush you'll be saving yourself a lot of trouble and time for the exact same food. read more
