They had more rides than meets the eye, but the space and food options were noticeably far less. But unlike MoCo's $20, parking is free. And they kept it PG and had a live go-go band... gotta love that! They are next to an equestrian center, so sometimes you can smell manure, but that's just nature haha. It was like $7 to get in as an adult, and the unlimited ride wristbands are better for individuals than tickets (if you like rides). It was only around for a weekend, so for anyone seeing this... well, you'll have to wait until next year haha. If you're around, definitely go. The free parking is a huge perk!

Grateful for the adventure with the hubs and at a discounted rate since we're both over 55!…read more (Sometimes, seniority has its privileges.) However, the line to get in was wayyy too long and moved wayyy too slow. All that police presence and metal detectors did not yield enough speed nor efficiency. Too many misguided youth repeatedly tried to punk us with the line hopping butttt, they met the right Auntie today. One "bruh" had the audacity to TRY to scream on us, "What are you mad for, we're all gonna get in." I said, "Yeah, but we've been waiting for over an hour and how dare you think you're gonna get in BEFORE us. You better go to the back of the line and wait, like we did." VERY LITTLE to brag about once we finally got in. Inflation has taken the fun outta everything. $5-$7 entrance fee, $10 for 3 darts, $10 per ride ... utterly ridiculous. The Sankofa Mobile Museum was amazing ... guaranteed not enough people experienced it. The live band was AMAZING (the singing not so much) but most def two thumbs up for the band. I only saw 2-3 vendors that were NOT peddling home repairs, gutters, windows, roofs. *Sigh* The wine and beer bar was a welcome addition (although the $9 kiddie cup of Sauvignon Blanc I had was disgusting.) The petting zoo was a joke. Besides the 2 ginormous rabbits and the adorable baby goats, there was only one baby camel, one baby kangaroo, and one pig. Besides the prices, I have no other complaints about the food. It was typical carnival food and we appreciated that. Not sure why they would have food trucks there ... funnel cakes, corn dogs, turkey legs, hot dogs, cotton candy, ice cream, fries, fries and more fries and HUGE lemonades are the BEST! Woke up to a flood of posts and reels about the chaos that ensued after we left. Not surprised. I knew we left at the right time. We came, we saw, we conquered and we declare, PGC Fair ain't gotta worry about us ever again.

Came to this location for the first time with a group of friends. We took up one lane, played one…read moregame, and rented shoes. Total came out to approximately $16 for each person. Some of us also ordered food and drinks. What's Hot - Service. Pretty good. Shortly after we sat down, one of their staffers brought us a couple pitchers of ice water with glasses and straws for our group. She also took our orders for food and drinks. Something to be aware of, you cannot order food and drinks on the booth tablet. - Food. For a bowling alley, their food was surprisingly good. Someone in our group ordered a cheeseburger with fries, and someone else ordered their mozzarella bites and fries. Their fries are slightly crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and seasoned just enough. All of us liked their fries. Their hot honey pizza had a good amount of cheese and pepperoni drizzled with hot honey. You could taste the sweetness and it was slightly spicy. Not a fan of the strawberry margarita, as I thought it was too tart. - Layout. The lanes are a decent size and has a u-shaped booth, which accommodates a fairly good number of people. Our group was 8 people and the booth accommodated all of us. There is room underneath the seats for you to put your shoes. Each side of the bench has a table. - Cost. To pay approximately $16 per person for one game, to include shoe rental is pretty good. Our group probably took about 2 hours to play one game. About a week before we came, I called ahead to ask about reservations. I've been informed that reservations are generally a good idea when there's a large group that wants to play several games, to include food and drinks. Their package specials tend to be geared towards that. That's why our group just walked in. I was told that earlier in the day tends not to be crowded. I recommend calling ahead to confirm depending on the day and time you plan on going. - Parking. There's a decent size parking lot at no cost, which is definitely helpful. What's Not - Cost. Drinks can be expensive. My husband ordered a hot honey pepperoni pizza (12 inches), which is approximately $17 and a pitcher of strawberry margarita for approximately $27. Pretty pricey for a pitcher of margarita. Pretty good value for the hot honey pizza and additional items that our group ordered. - Service. Orders for food and drinks were staggered during the time we were there. After a couple of us put in the first order, their staffer did not return to check in on us. As such, others had to be done at the food court. Something to be aware of- once you're set up, it's less likely than not for a staffer to return. - Acoustics. Bowling alleys are expected to be loud. Specifically, what our group did not like is that at one point, the music they played became extra loud, especially from the speakers that were right behind our booth. It's one thing to be loud. It's another thing to unnecessarily add to the noise. Final Answer Plan on coming back, but will be very mindful of the day and time.

It's 3/17 - might as well review LUCKY strike today!…read more I've been to this new location five times now! Yeah, I'm competitive so I've been going solo to ensure I can open a can of whoop when I need to. I wager on a few things and I'll always bet on me! (Smirk) With that said I was quite surprised in January to learn this was newly acquired and renovated. Same design but definitely upgraded. Monday-Thursday it's unlimited bowling so you'll find me here after happy hour somewhere! It's not bad $20 with those ugly shoes from 8 to close! I'm almost positive we've gone earlier and still got the unlimited deal. Food is great, for bar food! Drinks are always good. Definitely come! It's MUCH NICER! And MUSIC is great!

Red rocks: Will never make a return visit!!…read more Let me start by saying the establishment itself is great and aside from this particular incident about this particular individual that I'm writing this review for me and my friends did enjoy ourselves prior to. The Incident: So I'm on the third floor at the bar and we decide to go down to the second floor for a change of scenery as the place appeared to have 3 floors. This is my first time here and I needed to use the bathroom so on that floor I start walking around and then I come across a sign saying employee bathrooms on my left hand side so I assume the door to the right of that may be bathrooms for the general public like the ones available on the 3rd floor. I walk through the door and it leads outside to the rooftop so I realize that clearly isn't it and proceed back through the door I came. As I walk back to the bar and common area to head back upstairs (to the 3rd floor bathroom since I knew where that was) a heavy set bouncer with dreads approaches me and asks me where I'm coming from (really wish I knew the individual's name because I don't want to give the entire security team a bad rep as the others were extremely helpful during this incident). I initially politely explained that I was looking for a bathroom and didn't find it, ended up on the rooftop and came back in to head back upstairs. The guy says no that's $10 to go back upstairs. I then explain to the guy that I've been in here over 2 hours (got in around 10:50pm with a ticket so therefore it was free entry and the incident took place sometime around or after 12:30am) and that i was just trying to get to the bathroom. Again he says he needs $10 and that he hasn't seen me before inside the establishment (mind you this is a place with the lights low and hundreds of people going in and out) So again I explain my position that I've already been here and explain to him that I understand him doing his job and questioning people who seem suspicious due to the fact that I was coming from the direction of the employees bathroom earlier but that I could provide him several witnesses, my two other friends who were still on the upper floor that could vouch for me having already been in the bar hours before. And in using common sense it's unclear how I would have come Into the place from that door if i hadn't already been in there (maybe I scaled the building like Spider-Man?? Not sure of his logic here). Needless to say this particular guard or bouncer was unconvinced and my pleasant and calm demeanor then turned to being annoyed and frustrated as I started to feel like I was being profiled or at least not being treated with the same respect that the other attendees were receiving all because I was trying to use the bathroom and took a wrong turn. He began to raise his voice I did the same pleading the same point and that's when another helpful security member came and talked to me (someone who remembered me coming in as well) and says I'll talk to him and walks me back toward the direction where the other guard is. He vouches for me but this still wasn't enough and he proceeds to ask again for the $10. I'm still refusing to pay for a place that I've already been in and never left and at this point I'm so frustrated I want more witnesses to hear this situation so I began to explain my point loudly to other guests coming into the establishment so they can be aware of the mistreatment I had been receiving. The guard is frustrated so then I call my other two friends to come downstairs providing further witnesses to support my credibility with respect to already having been in the building however this still isn't enough to appease this particular bouncer. At this point I've already acknowledged this is just an ego issue and refusing to admit that you're wrong so by that point the bouncer who vouched for me led me downstairs to the first floor to cool off and then I decide to leave altogether because it wasn't even worth the treatment I was receiving. At that point I had already made my point and provided the people to support my claims one being a fellow staff member and that wasn't good enough. Needless to say I probably will never return to red rocks and that management may want to look into some sort of formal training or reprimand of this particular guard because I'm sure this isn't his first incident with mistreatment of guests or institute some sort of hand stamp or marker policy at the door to avoid any such incidents in the future if common sense won't be a factor in making such decisions about the whereabouts of guests in the establishment.

This is the best places to go to on H st. on a Saturday/Friday night. I was always a bit confused…read morewith the vibe of H st. when compared to other areas in DC. Ex: Dupont is for the preps, M st. for the clubbers, Adams Morgan for the young kids on the block or people who don't want to spend a lot of money, U st. is for the anything goes, have a good time crowd (My favorite in DC!). Yet, I still don't know where H st. fits in, and I guess that's perfectly fine because not every place needs an identity. Yet, RedRocks is definitely encouraging me to explore my own area - RedRocks is an extremely fun place where you can stuff your face, dance your booty off, and chill on the rooftop while sipping and chatting with friends. The crowd is diverse, the vibe is great, and venue is amazing! The RedRocks on H st. has three floors: the 1st floor has a restaurant with a bar, the 2nd floor is a dance floor with a DJ, and the third floor has also another dance floor with a different DJ (different music selections is a plus) plus a nice size rooftop patio to take in the H st. views. Everyone was having a good time and extremely friendly; however, the only negative is that bar is swamped! It takes about 15 minutes to get a drink - but that shows how much people go to RedRocks on Friday and Saturday night! Also, great music - when I went they had a Michael Jackson tribute going on. RedRocks is a hidden gem on H st.

The weather looked threatening with the potential to soak the 2013 Edition of Sound Bites…read more However, the rain held off and attendees were treated to one of the city's best charity food and music festivals that topped 2012's event. Like last year's Sound Bites, the event was held in and around the 9:30 Club with all proceeds going to a worthy cause, DC Central Kitchen. Also, like last year, there was plenty of live musical entertainment, but perhaps the threat of rain resulted in it all (except for the DJ and the always energetic Batala) being moved indoors to the 9:30's stage. This year's iteration, however, offered a bigger (and better) lineup of participating restaurants serving up a wider range of delicious bites. Thankfully, that also meant that there were many food offerings beyond "sliders". Food highlights... Chef Jeff Black/Black Jack's ceviche, Chef Victor Albisu/Del Campo's grilled salmon campechana, Bar Pilar's Peruvian ceviche, Jaleo's huge chicken and sausage paella, Rappahannock River Oysters' Olde Salts, and Astro Doughnuts' unique array of tasty doughnuts. Frankly, every food booth offered up tasty bites with no clunkers. I left satisfied. This year's cocktail competition was a battle for 14th St. bragging rights as crack bartending teams from Bar Pilar faced off against The Gibson while Black Jack battled Birch & Barley. The finals pitted The Gibson against Birch & Barley with the all-female team from Birch & Barley eeking out the win. Who knew Birch & Barley even served cocktails? Once again, though, samples of the competitors' cocktails weren't available to event attendees. If there's one thing that hinders Sound Bites from 5-star status is the cost and quality of drinks. $4 for a bottle of water?!?!?! $5 for Natty Boh?!?!?! $8 for a John Daly or this blue slushie?!?!? The 9:30 Club monopolized drink concessions. I can only hope that the proceeds from its beverage sales also went to DC Central Kitchen. Given the wealth of restaurants and bars serving amazing beers, wines, and cocktails in this city especially considering many were participating at this year's Sound Bites, it was a shame that they weren't able to also serve drinks. I would've gladly paid for them. Oh well. Sound Bites, in my mind, is DC's best-kept charity food event secret. It offers great food at a great price for a great cause. Sound Bites in 2014? It's a date!

Had a great time at the Summer Snow Globe!…read more The food was appropriate for the intended temperature: lobster bisque, chicken pot pie, butternut squash soup, and a number of passed hors d'oeuvres like crab cakes and shredded duck crostini. While the sun made it a bit toasty to justify eating soup in the beginning, I skittered over to the soup stations as soon as the sun went down and the chill set in. The drinks were great! They had a boozy snow cone station that kept my wife sipping away. I focused on the Mint Julep cocktail, which they wisely made with the crushed ice from the snow cones. They also planned very well, and I didn't have to hear them say they ran out of anything. A major issue that I would normally need to point out at events like this is that the bars are usually packed, making it unreasonable to wait so long for one drink. I can't say that here! I never had to wait for more than one person ahead of me to get their drink. It wasn't an overbooked event, and that's a big deal for someone who is used to attending packed events and feeling like a canned sardine. The music was what I'd describe as "snow globe chill". There weren't any recognizable songs, but it was sufficient for creating a cool ambiance, similar to a lounge vibe. The only feedback I'd give for their future events is that the live band was pretty loud (not sure they need to mic the drums in such an enclosed space), which resulted in guests stepping outside so they could hear each other. BUT, with picnic tables, a waterfront sunset, and two corn hole sets waiting for us outside, it actually worked to add some variety to the night. It was a great event, all around! It also convinced my wife and I to return for one of their upcoming snow globe events. What can I say? I've been frost-bitten!

The pre-opening party itself was good due to the tasty drinks and delicious bites being passed around, but I don't think I would pay for this exact experience on my own. Not because I'm cheap, but because it's only just o-k. A few pros and a few cons: Pros: - Unique idea - Bathroom trailer was surprisingly sufficient - Aesthetically pleasing decor, especially the chandeliers and trees - Outdoor seating and cornhole Cons: - EXTREMELY loud music -- if you want to talk to anyone, no. That's not happening. - Awkward sort-of lounge arrangement - Mystery snow -- as the foam snow fell into my drink, I thought, "I hope I'm not drinking something moderately to really toxic now..." - More snow would be nice - The dome was surprisingly hot and humid, definitely warmer the promised 64* - It's sitting in a rather unattractive asphalt parking lot. Maybe some AstroTurf would help. There's nice looking seating, but it's so loud that I'm not sure who's going to be able to make use of it; I'd prefer either a quieter space with more seating or no/less seating and more high tops for standing guests. This venue is a perfect example of "Man! This has SO MUCH potential! If only a few changes were made..." I'm crossing my fingers that some of those changes will be made and then this unique little National Harbor gem will really shine!
