Came on a Sunday night. Pretty low key. Many people came in and out but nobody stayed for long. The food good. The owner / bartender / bouncer / cook hooked us up. Bonding over being Caribbean along with everyone else in the place. No dancing on this night as I thought but good vibes, strong drinks and excellent food. Being in California I don't get many chances to be with my people so it's always a blessing to be here. They say the roast fish betta than the fried. The fried was absolutely delicious and the shrimp was hot. They come in tiny portions so order more if you're hungry. read more

If you're looking to jam to some reggae, dancehall, or soca head to Tropix Lounge. Guaranteed to hear some good tunes and food. They even have karaoke during the week as well. For food, I ordered the steamed fish. It's priced by the pound, so I spent around 14 dollars. It's well worth the price though. It's a whole fish and will keep you filled! Only thing I didn't like was it had too many little bones which made it annoying to eat read more

Second time coming to tropix. I enjoy Caribbean cuisine I love we seasoned food and fresh. Today it was not the best but every one has a bad day. My pepper shrimp was over cooked very chewy and wasn't able to eat it. My fish was good right about of pepper and the dumplings are great to me. You can sit and eat but I took mine to go. Not very fancy it is also a lounge. It is more of and old school jamaican establishment. I went on a Frida and it was karaoke night. I thought that was very nice. They played music and people ask for what songs they want and sang. It also had some seating outside because it can get stuffy when it goes into club mode. The rum punch has a very big kick so if you order it dont be the one driving. I think they put the 100 proof white rum so be aware. All in all still a good place for som Jamaican fish. read more

Been going to this place for over 7years for what was once a good roast fish. Unfortunately these past few visits have been the worst, I have received fish that was dry or what seemed a day old. On this particular visit I'm guessing we forgot how displeased we were with the previous visit that we decided to drive out of our way in the rain on a late night for some roast fish. Sadly this is what we were served, dry, over cooked, hard steamed fish. We were so upset to get home to see this is what they are now serving their customers. I understand that some restaurants have "not so great nights" but this was unacceptable to pay nearly $40 for food like this. We couldn't eat it and no way in hell to be inconvenienced to drive again in the rain to take it back because they decided to serve trash to their customer. Simply in my opinion serving food like this is insulting. read more

If you want certain types of Jamaican food and to listen to some music I'd highly suggest this spot. They serve fish tea also which 1. Isn't really tea and is actually just a deliciously seasoned fish broth soup. It's shellfish allergy safe too but I ask each and every time just in case. The fish, fried or steamed is cooked Caribbean style. The head, the eyes and the tails are in and on. Bones are present and the place is dimly lit so if yuh cya eat fish in de dark I recommend you bring it home and eat it! The food I've ever had has been fresh. The music was ridiculously loud this night though and since I'm not getting old I'll say it was just super loud. The place is far from fancy and turns more into a club atmosphere after hours on the weekends. I'd highly suggest simplifying your drink orders and leave any fancy cocktail requests for another place. Try the rum punch though, see if you can taste the punch. Try it. live & Love! read more

My husband always brought home their fish after work and it is good. The roast fish has okra and corn, a steamed crix crackers when steamed has a thin dumpling like texture. The fried fish is also good it only comes with pepper pickled onions. Yesterday (a Thursday) was my first time going there, it is a bar, they had old school music from the 80s and 90s. We walked around trying to figure out where to order soon enough a lady came out from a room behind the bar and we walked over to her and asked for a menu she mentioned that they didn't have a menu and that they only serve fried fish, steam fish, pepper shrimp and fish soup. I've never had the pepper shrimp so I order that and rum punch. The pepper was also good and spicy, the rum punch is a tropical fruit punch with rum it had a good amount of alcohol. I returned today ( a Friday) with cousins of mine and it was karaoke night there was someone sing with words being projected on a large screen. I stood in front of the bar to order, tonight was a little more packed but there was still only one server she took orders and also was the bartender so it was a little frustrated trying to get her attention to order taken. read more

This has to the Most unprofessional establishment I've ever encountered. I will NEVER ever spend my money here. You go to the bar to ask for service and they totally ignore you or when they finally take your order they walk off in the middle of you giving them the order. WTH. What business does that to their Patrons. I went to complain to the manager and he was like she is the part-owner. As of that was an excuse for her horribly lack of customer service. I told him that wasn't an excuse for the part-owner to be dismissive towards customers. He tried to come up with an excuse. I told him that I didn't want to hear the excuses. If she's that busy hire more help or closes the business. I only gave them one star because it was needed to add the rating. Only then that they wouldn't have gotten that. I use to drive from Fort Lauderdale near the beach just to get the peppered shrimp at Tropix. I will never waste an ounce of gas. I'll eat dirt before I'll give them my money. I flew into Florida for the holidays, and my family highly recommended trying out Tropix Lounge. I decided to give it a try, and came out with my lovely aunt and mother. When we entered the lounge we were greeted with funky toons and a welcoming bartender. The lounge definitely caters to an older crowd, but I wasn't deterred. Because it was my first time at the establishment I wanted to check out their menu to select some good eats, oddly enough they didn't carry a menu. The bartender let us know the select food options they served, which did not include side items. They offered fried fish, steamed fish, king fish and pepper shrimp. I opted to order the fried fish, while my mother and aunt ordered the steamed fish. The fish also came with Jamaican bread. While we waited for the food we all ordered rum punch. The drinks were just okay, as they were very syrup-ey. However, the food was honestly amazing! The fish was filled with so much flavor, and the bread was so soft. I would highly recommend coming to eat some delicious West Indian mains and bread. You'll have to order sides elsewhere though lol! read more

I am a frequent flier at Tropix. I flew in on the 23rd and to my disappointment they were closed. Today I did a drive by with my cousin and daughter. The server was very pleasant. There was no menu as there was only three items to chose from. (Steamed fish, fried fish or pepper shrimp) we decided to order all three. While we waited we danced to smooth tunes and dipped on their famous Jamaican rum punch Andy I had knocked me off of my feet with two sips. YAAS !! They had his and her bathrooms which was very clean. The dance floor was clean and so were the bar areas. On the other side of the wall there seemed to be a banquet room that was closed. They had a DJ that played mostly music from the 90s. If you don't like loud music this isn't the place for you: it isn't large enough to go where the music isn't loud. There aren't really many tables most of the seating is along the wall barstool style where you face a mirrored wall. We waited about fifteen minutes for our fish since it's freshly cooked. It was pretty empty apart from a few people sitting up at the bar. most of which were waiting for food. They play good reggae music, and had horse racing on tv, which was boringggg. LOL. I've been going to Tropix for about 5 years off and on. They have the wickedest steamed fish I've ever had and for you shrimp lovers, I hear the pepper shrimp is just as wicked. I usually go on Saturday. However, if you love to sing, they have Karaoke on Friday nights, until about 12. After 12, the DJ starts to play and the crowd begins to pick up. It's $5 before 12 and $10 after. The one downside is that it gets HOT AS HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So dress casual and come out and enjoy! read more
