Finally, a place that cares about their fish. Came in looking for a betta, instead of having them in cups they each had their own tank along with docile community fish. I know a lot about fish already, so unlike the one star reviews, I didn't have to ask any questions, but those helping me at the store were very kind with what I did need help with. Tanks are well maintained, koi fish are in outdoor ponds instead of tanks, I was genuinely very impressed, it's not very often you find a place like this. read more

I was in Tropical Treasures a few weeks ago and purchased some amazing live plants and 2 African Dwarf frogs. walking in was amazing to see all the well cared for fish and the quality of plants were excellent. My frogs and plants are thriving. The staff was great and knowledgable and I could tell they cared about the fish. will definitely go back and recommend to friends. read more

This is our go to aquatic store! The owner, Michelle, is SO knowledgeable & such a huge help! We had gone to another well known pet/aquatic shop in Shelby Twp who sold us too many starter goldfish & caused a 3+ month battle against a nasty algae bloom. We decided to give Tropical Treasures a try & are so thankful we did! With Michelle's advice & guidance we were FINALLY able to get a clear, healthy tank! They have a great selection of fish & I love that they have the aisles labeled according to how aggressive or communal the species are. There is an older woman (I do not remember her name) who works there & is super friendly & helpful as well! Both her & Michelle were able to make wonderful recommendations of which fish species cohabitate well based on the types of fish we liked. My all time favorites of all our fish are my Lace catfish & our albino bristlenose pleco. Our catfish is so beautiful & it's been so cool to watch him grow. read more

Just stopped here for koi, and OH MY did they have a huge selection. Must be over 100+ koi in 4 different ponds to choose from. I've been here once before to look for tropical fish, and they have quite a selection. This place doesn't look very appealing though, more like a small factory or warehouse converted to a petshop. Aesthetics aside, they really do have a nice selection of fish, plants, and equipment. Most pond stuff is outside, while the tanks and stuff are on the inside. If you're looking for a good variety, look no further. I also like this place because the layout is more open, not cramped like in Oceans & Seas down the road. The employees here are very nice, and usually there's 2 people working. One to help, and one to greet customers/ work the register should other customers come up or come in. I'd come back for sure. Our first time at tropical treasures. We needed fish for our 2 ponds. We found all the fish we wanted coming to about 250 dollars. While my boyfriend was out with the nicest older lady I was inside with the owner. Rudest woman I have ever met. My niece had a free magazine she made it a point to come out and look at what she had. Rude and racist. I went told my boyfriend what happened and he did not pick any other fish. The only reason we kept the fish that was all ready bagged was because the older lady helping us. She was the sweetest lady ever. The owner the worst. We will never return and I will tell everyone I know never to shop there. Loved the fish major dislike for the owner. read more

We have been going here for years. The owner is loyal to returning customers and they always have a good selection. We had a Tiger Shovel Nose and an Emperor Pleco die just days after purchasing and were given a full refund after the water test. Good place for aquarium owners to spend their extra money. read more

They have a big and nice section of pod and fresh water fish but their salt water fish selection is very disappointing. Their salt water tanks are dirty and and fish we have gotten from there never lives more than a few days. I think their prices are comparable to other stores in the area but your taking a risk buying their salt water fish. read more

I've had nothing but pleasant experiences here. I'm a repeat customer and I don't know if the person before caught the employee on a bad day or what but to me the staff is awesome. If you want a place where the staff is knowledgable and sincerely likes what they do then this is the place to go. Also they possibly have the largest cichlid and tetra selection in the area. They're still building up their saltwater selection but it regularly keeps growing! If you want a store that knows what they're doing and has an extremely personable staff then this is the place to go. They're out to help you have a successful HEALTHY fish tank(they will not sell a sick fish.) Love this store!!!!! read more

Great place, they really know their fish. Had a lot of trouble setting up my freshwater tank at first and getting all the levels just right and they helped at lot! Many fish to choose from as well. I like that the fish are separated by either community, agrressive, semi aggressive, or salt water. It makes it really easy to pick the right kind of fish for your tank. read more

Recently went here to purchase some cleaner crew for my salt water tank and while I agree the older woman is very nice she knows nothing about saltwater fish. Unfortunately the younger gentleman that works there was not working that day so I'm assuming the person I dealt with was the owner? Anyway I was asking her questions about what would be the best invertebrates to add to a recently cycled tank. She only responded by firing back with questions that made me feel like she was questioning my knowledge and intelligence and as I was answering her questions she had this smirk on her face as if she was laughing at me on the inside. She made me so uncomfortable. She made me feel like she was only questioning me about things bc she knew she knows more than I do and she wanted to make herself feel superior by making me out to be someone who had no idea what I was doing. I got very angry because that was the whole reason I was asking her about certain snails/crabs to begin with. I know a decent amount about keeping a simple saltwater tank but you own a fish store so when I ask you a question about a certain animal you sell I expect you to know something about it. Instead of educating me on the animal I would potentially be putting in my tank she belittled me and gave me no answers. They also charge $2-$5 for 3 hermit shells depending on the size when oceans and seas sells 10 for $1. Never going back again. read more
