The combination of freshly baked bread, smoked turkey, pickled avocado, and crispy bacon creates an incredible flavor in every bite. The atmosphere is just as enjoyable as the food. With its laid-back vibe and cozy seating, it's the perfect spot to relax and enjoy a great meal. Today, I paired my sandwich with Jalapeño Ranch Sea Salt chips, and to top it all off, I grabbed a Jarritos Pineapple soda--the perfect drink to complement an already amazing lunch. If you're looking for a delicious sandwich and a welcoming place to unwind, Hardtimes Deli is definitely worth a visit.

The only downside is the price, as spending ~$20 on a sandwich is never fun, but it seems like that's just about everywhere these days. However, if you're not that hungry, these sandwiches can be stretched to 2 meals to keep the cost down. A few of my favorites are the Turkey Bacon Ranch and the SSS Chopped Cheese. THEY ALSO HAVE CANNED GATORADE. IYKYK Being able to pop over to Slowdown Dry Goods next door while you wait for your food is a big plus. They always have some cool stuff to check out while you wait.

The shrimp was seasoned with cajun flavors and chili pepper flakes then dipped in a tempura like batter and fried. The shrimp was paired with a soft but yet crunchy bread. The sandwich was topped with lettuce and tomatoes. It did not have a sauce but would have been even better with a spicy aioli. Very GREAT SANDWICH. My friend ordered The Madness that came with a variety of meats topped with lettuce and tomatoes with an onion marmalade. My other friend chose The Philly Cheese Steak. Looked really good. The restaurant/deli is located inside of the grocery store with the same name. The place is nice and organized with snacks, local sweets, drinks, wine etc. The deli has other wonderful options in the case as well. Service was great. The gal that took our sandwich order was so nice and friendly. This grocer is found in the Crosstown Concourse. We decided to eat outside of the grocery store at a table. I will return to try some other scrumptious sandwiches.

The meal was a solid 9/10 If you're in Memphis and you want some good BBQ made with heart and soul, then you should try Elwood's. You'd walk in and say something like "Turkey sub, no mayo," and without missing a beat they'd hit you with, "Turkey sub come with mayo." No discussion. No customer-service script. Just blunt honesty. Honestly, that was part of the charm back then. What's funny is seeing how much they've softened over the years. The owners seem older now, calmer maybe, and genuinely kinder and more accommodating than I remember. Still quick, still efficient, but way more patient with customers than the old days. Feels like a neighborhood spot that grew up a little without losing its identity. The food is still what brings people back though. The bread has that same soft, slightly sweet flavor that nobody else in Memphis really does right. I got the Super Sub this time and it was exactly what I wanted -- fresh toppings, good balance, and one of those sandwiches that disappears faster than you expect. The chicken sub is still probably my favorite overall. Place was clean, service moved fast, and yeah... still cash only, which somehow feels completely on-brand at this point. Some things probably shouldn't change. Not every single person will "get" this place, and that's fine. But for a lot of Memphis people, this spot is tied to memories as much as sandwiches. Glad to see they're still going strong.
