Took my mom to Tropical Isle and had her order a Shark Attack without telling her what to expect. She calmly ordered it, totally unaware of what was coming next -- which made it even better. The bar staff were absolutely hilarious and made the whole experience so much fun, really getting her into it and making sure she enjoyed every second. The drink itself was perfectly made and lived up to the hype. The ambiance was lively, upbeat, and full of classic New Orleans energy, which really added to the experience. Great drinks, great energy, and unforgettable staff -- definitely a must-stop when you're in the area! read more

I think there's about two or three drinks that you could order that will give you some type of huge container for you to carry out as a souvenir. The horny gator is my favorite flavor that it's tolerable.. There's a tropical punch type of flavor. That is also good. But I think the one that everyone wants to go home with to carry around is the grenade which Taste disgusting . However, it's a good time the bar staff treats you really nice. Ironically, we stopped twice in one day, one on our own and another one for a bar crawl tour. read more

This place is a guilty pleasure. If you are going to go for a sugary frozen drink, you may as well go for the original. The place wasn't crowded on a Saturday afternoon, and the band that played was actually pretty good! We just stopped for - brief drink. In the end, I think I prefer purple drank from Jean Lafitte's blacksmith shop, it's more discreet, but still will fall for a grenade from time to time. read more

We stopped in to get a hand grenade to go, and the experience did not disappoint. I asked the bartender if I should do the original or a flavor, and he said, "They all get you drunk." I couldn't tell if he was having an off day or if he leans into the snarky side of service, but it was kind of charming. The drink was incredibly sweet and very full of booze. read more

Is it really a trip to Bourbon Street if you didn't have at least one Hand Grenade? I think NOT...which is why we made multiple, questionable albeit, trips to Tropical Isle during our trip to NOLA and Bourbon Street! As with most bars on Bourbon, they are a little trashy, dirty and always crowded...but even with that, they are always fun! We popped in this Tropical Isle for a few hand grenades before wandering back out onto Bourbon. The drinks are dangerous, so pace yourselves...as they sneak up on you really quick! The famed Hand Grenade is basically a well drink with a bunch of mix-ins with the sole purpose of a good time on Bourbon, and it hits the mark every time. Service here is to the point. They are beyond busy at most times, so get in where you can fit in, order and keep it moving. Overall, Tropical Isle is a staple on any trip to New Orleans! read more

I came to Tropical Isle Original with one goal in mind and it was accomplished! The infamous hand grenade was one of the many items on my bucket list to try in NOLA and it was such a good frozen daquiri. For $13 I was impressed with the taste and the vibes at the bar, as I spotted the wall art and jammed to Rihanna for a few minutes. The bartender was friendly too. My first time in NO this place came highly recommended for their hand grenade drinks. The Tropical Isle bars are a NO go to. We had amazing service and were grenaded right away! This location has live music, unfortunately, we weren't there to enjoy it. The drink wasn't very sweet, but tasty . I definitely would go back and have it again. What a cool bar, good vibe, nice bar tenders, good drinks. The hand grenade is soo good I like the frozen better. Drink is definitely worth the money and keep your cup and bring it back for cheaper refill. As my first time doing bourbon st everyone said get a hand grenade! You have to! And I will say they are very sweet and most people like that for their drinks but it was a bit much for me. I'll stick to some of the other options on bourbon st lol! However the atmosphere and the service was great!!! Everyone was super helpful and kind and laughing and making jokes with all the customers and I can imagine it gets old dealing with customers who may or may not had too much to drink but they made it fun and awesome! We stopped in after an amazing time at one of their other locations the night before. We sampled some of their "house" beverages the previous night and I can't get enough of their fucking bushwhacker. They didn't check vaccination cards upon entry unlike the other location which was a disappointment. We sat down at the bar and I ordered the bushwhacker which, and I may need medical attention for this, I'm so obsessed with I was dreaming about getting again essentially the entire day. After ordering, the bartender asked, "you know that's like a milkshake, right?" Ok judge-fucking-judy yes I absolutely know and that's why I can't get enough of that shit! GF ordered their shark attack, which you must order because it's an experience everyone should have in their life. I stuffed that shark in my pocket and completely forgot about it until we got back home from our trip and it was such a nice surprise! I still get a chuckle when I catch a glance of it on our bookcase. There was actually a point in the night when the drinks were hitting and two separate parties of girls on either side of us at the bar who apparently had an identical taste in music because they were aggressively singing and dancing along with the tracks that were playing and it culminated in them jumping up and down in a circle, screaming the lyrics, and subsequently separating and sitting back down in their respective seats. No shit. GF and I were staring at each other like wtffffffff. I have never seen anything like it in my life. Anyways, this place is quite the experience. read more

Lol I had TWO drinks y'all.. first up was the original hand grenade which is priced at $11 and you get that cute neon green souvenir cup to keep with it (but let's be real, they all end up on top of the trash cans) and THE SECOND drink of choice was the SHARK ATTACK! As with most bars along Bourbon St, the drink prices were high. Some bars have signature drinks, and here it was the hand grenade and the shark attack (which had quite a presentation as a bell is rung, and red grenadine is added from a shark-shaped dispenser when served). I came here by myself and was entertained when it wasn't that busy. The bartender was nice, ran the bar efficiently by himself (forgot to get his name. July 2, 2021 mid day before the shift change). I was pleasantly surprised the blended Hand Grenade is actually really good and strong. Too much sugar, they need to calm down on that. I had a headache after I got back to my hotel and all I had was the Hand Grenade and a NOLA beer. I rarely do sugar so I know there was too much sugar in the Hand Grenade, but it was still good. I was really entertained when he made the Shark Attack drink and wanted order it for my wife to see the next day when she landed into NOLA, but didn't have the time to come back when it was open. I must have been having a tolerance imbalance my first night here... One hand grenade had me literally forgetting some of the most important things in my life!! (Seriously).... A pretty busy bar with a live band and pretty entertaining bartenders.. The band was playing late 80s to mid 90s soft rock classics and was taking requests... The bartenders were busy serving hand grenades and shark attacks. It's a whole scene with the shark attacks, complete with music and a mini shark in the drink.. Forget about asking them how to make.or what's in the hand grenades... They'll give you their credit card number before giving up the drink recipe. We also got some great restaurant recommendations from Brian...or was it other Brian...LOL! Definitely worth stopping by either before or at the end of your night. Or spend the whole night!

I feel like New Orleans was a little late to the game with these types of places, but now we have a decent array (typically at hotels like this one). And like most of the other rooftop bars at hotels, you don't have to be a hotel guest to take advantage! This past Saturday evening was surprisingly quiet up there, possibly due to White Linen happening on the other side of the CBD. I wasn't complaining, believe me! It was perfect out there for me and just when I thought things couldn't possibly get better, I saw the cocktail menu. Frosé, baby! Passionfruit frosé, yes please. Also, prices are not as high as you'd expect. My guy got a $3 Modelo. Frosé was $8. Pretty views of the surrounding buildings, fairy lights against the dark summer sky and a slight breeze... living my best life with a glass of frozé in mah hand. Thanks, Catahoula!

Inside, there was a pianist leading a room full of people singing Christmas songs together ,it felt spontaneous, lively, and genuinely joyful. What was supposed to be a quick stop turned into us staying much longer than planned. The atmosphere was infectious, and we couldn't resist soaking it all in instead of just grabbing drinks to go.We had an amazing time and it truly lifted our spirits and ended up being a memorable part of the evening.

I also noticed they do a proper absinth service here and they offered one of the largest Absinth menus I've ever seen, so I had to try something interesting and different and went with the Texas made Opal Absinthe. Before selecting it, I asked the young lady who was handling the bar and she gave me her description, which I have to say was spot-on to what I ended up drinking. Another drink we got was great as well, and made with fresh juices. The vibe and venue is great here... Rye whiskey, Peychaud's Bitters, and sugar are stirred in a small pitcher with ice. The serving glass is chilled, then emptied, and finished with an absinthe rinse along the rim. The cocktail is strained into the glass and topped with a lemon peel. The atmosphere makes the experience even better. The murals, the history, and the energy of the room give it a sense of occasion that you do not get at most bars. We had such a great time sitting at the bar that my wife and I each finished two and a half Sazeracs, which tells you everything you need to know.
