    Simple Tasso turkey
    K B.

I was waiting in the area a stumbled across tropical island. The staff was great I walked into smiling faces. I ordered the Tasso turkey simp and Grenadian juice. Everything came out quickly a fresh. The ambiance was clean and clear. Food was amazing crispy and delicious 10/10 I'll recommend and come again.

This is 1/2 of the large Griot plate!

The food was good and plentiful. We had the Haitian staple of Griot and it did not disappoint. They provided the right amount of side dishes, plenty of sides. The people were friendly and customer focused! I recommend it.

I love Tropical Island Restaurant, this is the second time I've been here and I plan to come every time I'm in Florida, which is a couple times a year. For now, I will just review my recent visit. They open early and serve breakfast, I was told they start serving lunch around 1130. I ordered the goat curry over the phone and the lady was so sweet. She kind of had a heavy Caribbean accent, I felt bad for making her repeat her sentence more than once. She was trying to ask me what kind of rice. lol In the end I said surprise me. The goat curry is exactly what I expected, fall off the bone delish, it was a bit spicy but I loved it. The red onions and peppers on top paired well with it. I got the fried rice and all of it was sooo good. The crispiness of the plantains just brings the entire dish together. (Dip the plantain in the sauce, you'll thank me later) I will be back, thank you!

The new Tropical Island Restaurant in Boynton Beach. So after I heard that Tropical Island had been rebuilt from the ground up, I had to go see it for myself. Owner Jean spent $3M on a modern fast-casual that is still takeout-oriented but now has a HUGE kitchen where they can cook many more kinds of dishes, not just Haitian cuisine. He intends to offer food from all over the Caribbean once he gets the place up to speed, and also he's applied for a full alcohol license. The dining room is simple but clean; it's very much an order at the counter and pick up your food kind of place. He has indoor and covered outdoor patio seating. The beverage cooler has soft drinks from all over the Caribbean, including a beer called Prestige, made in Holland by Heineken but using a Haitian formulation, which is very good; it reminds me of Red Stripe (it's 1 percent ABV stronger, 5.6%) and goes well with the spicy island food. I had every intention of ordering like a normal human being, but as soon as Jean saw Rachel and me, the gig was up; he immediately recognized us and decided we would have the menu grand tour. You're in for a serious treat if you have never had Haitian food. We had two kinds of chicken, the curry chicken and the jerk chicken, entirely different from the Jamaican type. Both are roasted/grilled and then flash-fried, but they are seasoned differently. It should be noted that everything served at this place is aggressively seasoned; they don't serve bland anything, so be prepared for that, and it doesn't taste anything like Cuban or Puerto Rican, or even Jamaican food. The curry chicken (a dry, roasted style similar to the jerk, it's not a stew) is served with a curry sauce on the side, and the jerk comes with a jerk sauce -- both are spicy, but not ridiculously so. If you want hotter stuff on the side, ask, and you will get it. In addition to the sauces accompanying the dishes, we also had a "hot sauce," a brown concoction with jerk-style spices that was very good and hot but not ridiculous. We also had "Tasso," deep-fried chunks of marinated seasoned stew beef that fall apart in your mouth. It's a similar dish to the "griot" fried pork chunks (my Haitian usual) but beef. It's delicious. Veg: We had "Lalo," a (very) seasoned spinach and jute leaf stew that had pork chunks in it -- it's similar to the Jamaican callaloo but has a much stronger flavor to it, and it is flavored with "Epis" which a green herb seasoning base similar to a sofrito. This can also be prepared with chicken on request; blue crab is a popular way of having it, and he's working on sourcing it. We also had "Legume," a mixed vegetable stew with eggplant, and other things, including tomato paste which gives it a red color, like a Caribbean ratatouille. It's excellent. Also, we had two different types of Pickliz, the all-important finely chopped cabbage and carrots that are fermented in habanero pepper vinegar. The one he called "commercial" pickliz was damn hot, the cabbage is swimming in a pool of bright orange-colored vinegar, and you smell the habanero/scotch bonnet the second it is within inches of your nose; it utterly reeks of it; it's like a punch in the face. It looks like coleslaw, but you should not eat it like coleslaw; you want to use it sparingly on bites of meat to give it extra zing. The Tasso also came with an onion pickliz that was very spicy. We were also treated to the "real" pickliz, which Brian would probably classify as a 4 on his heat scale, made with ghost peppers, and after I tasted it, I thought I would die. I took a picture of it next to the "commercial" one, and you can clearly see the color difference. You need to ask for that one special. In terms of starches, you are going to get fried plantain (tostones) and also several kinds of rice. There's white rice, seasoned peas and rice, and also "diri djon djon", black mushroom rice, and my favorite of the three. And you get a lot of it, so expect to take food home. If you are up in the Boynton area and you want to try something quite different from your normal stuff up in that area definitely hit Tropical Island up, especially if you like spicy stuff.

    Excellent. Have to try it!

Oh my Lord! This has got to get the award for most delicious food find of 2021! I cannot get over how much I just enjoyed my lunch. Another bar has been set! First of all, it's small and doesn't even look like a restaurant! It's in the middle of a very inconspicuous area. The definition of a hidden gem. I walked in and all I heard was Haitian Creole and a few folks waiting for their order. While I waited I saw person after person come in, this place is clearly a neighborhood hotspot. I ordered (the menu is in creole so it was a bit of a challenge but made me certain that it was authentic) I was able to read jerk chicken and I selected the smaller portion. It comes with rice and beans (beans are puréed sorta so no actual beans, yummy!) and a bit of a salad. From the first bite ... my eyes opened wide, and my probably turned into a heart shape! I was in love. This sauce beats out nearly every jerk sauce I've tasted. Blasting with flavor and spices. Chicken was perfectly cooked. I could go on but honestly this place is just amazing and deserves 6 stars. Also; cannot forget to say that service was first-class. The busy ladies at the front still were able to be super friendly and smile when they gave me my order. I felt really good here. I will be telling EVERYONE and this is also where I'll be bringing friends.

Went to try out this place and was pleasantly surprised. So we are always on the lookout for caribbean, jamaican / haitian types of places And found their location to be a nice brand new clean and an amazing restaurant. What's nice about this type of place is the amazing staff and the locals. The people are always a little spicy people watching can be pretty entertaining The food was really good the griot was moist and the rice tasty and can't wait to try the jerk chicken.

They used to be the best haitian spot but in the last week twice already got subpar orders, fried turkey nothing but big bones no meat, mediocre food at best. Do yourself a favor and go and try Nessa's kitchen , truly amazing haitian food

I've been here twice and the food is so good!!!

Chicken stew, mac n cheese and black rice is so delicious , I'll always eat hear! Every time it's so fresh.

2nd time to this location, I had to get my Griot fix. It's right off BB Blvd, if you're not paying attention you'll definitely miss it. There's probably 3 parking spots outside so it's not parking friendly. The ladies at the counter were super friendly. Ordering was quick and only took about 10 minutes to receive my food to go. Fresh, plentiful, delicious and piping hot. The pork was cooked just right, I hate dry/overcooked griot and the rice and beans were tasty. I love pikliz but not a fan of it here but the meat sauce was . Definitely have to try the turkey next time, notice a lot of people order it.

I usually have low expectations when I order takeout from any place, especially one I've never tried before, but Tropical Island was a pleasant surprise. We ordered the fried chicken meal and the griot with rice and beans and both were delicious! The chicken and pork were both well marinated, tender, and moist. I've had griot that can be pretty dry and need a lot of hot sauce to bring it back to life, but hot sauce was really unnecessary except as an added bonus in this case. The pikliz was all spicy and vinegary goodness, but my blood pressure probably went up a few points after the meal. You get a good sized portion for the price you pay, which is very reasonable. This is gonna be my go-to when I have a Haitian food fix.

A flavorful Haitian spot in that specific area. I usually go for the turkey meal with the sauce and Haitian fried goat . Sometimes it's a bit of a wait but i always like to order over the phone in advance so i can just grab and go . Never really had any issues with my food since I've been visiting here . It's hard to find good Haitian or Caribbean spots . I noticed Miami has more variety. But this spot is not bad at all. They elevated from their previous spot they've been at for yearss and have done a great job in presenting this one . Congrats ! Proud of them :)

My wife had the shrimp in a red mild gravy. She described the taste as a Cacciatore style sauce and it was delicious. I had the Fried Pork Belly and it was incredible. All the dishes came with a spicy coleslaw, pasta salad, plantains and rice. The portions were gigantic and we highly recommend trying the food here! The only half five tables and it fills up quick with customers.

Kinanm is a small shop in a small strip mall, with small chairs and small tables. In fact, everything is small here except the prices! Fried pork (Griot) cost $18 and my lunch companion's fried goat came in at $28. Add $2 for a can of soda and you can afford a real dinner somewhere... There was a bit of a language barrier, but we ordered okay, and our host / cashier was very nice. No real ambiance but I didn't get the feeling people come here for long drawn out dining. Our meal came served in styrofoam, and there was plenty of food. My pork was accompanied by pasta salad, rice (I chose black rice), fried smashed green plantains, and pickliz. Everything was delicious!
