Shelton re-potting my bonsai
Edgar M.

This is an unassuming nursery on the side of the road, but their plant selection, outstanding customer service, and reasonable prices make stopping at this nursery a must when looking to buy quality plants while getting expert advise. I was looking for a bonsai tree. I picked one out, and a new pot. They offered to re-potted into the new one I bought at no charge. Shelton is the guy they re-potted the bonsai. While he was doing that, Shelton did more than just change it from one pot to the other. He gave me an education on bonsai care, added some decorations to enhance the bonsái, and did a great job at answering all my questions. Next time I need plants for my backyard, this will definitely be my first (and perhaps only) stop.

Gift shop offerings

I have lived near this place for over a decade and visited today. What a treat! Their variety of plants, the knowledge of the folks working there plus their helpfulness is exceptional. Bonus for me, they have a couple of great gift shops, a tortoise walking around and some talkative parrots. My sister bought a few plants. I have no ability to nurture plants which is why I never stopped here. I will return though. Planning on some Christmas shopping. They have jewelry, wind chimes, knick knacks in the gift shops. Love this place and their prices are extremely reasonable

Venus fly trap

Love discovering new plant nurseries in South Florida. Came across Tropic Plants on Yelp and decided to come explore. There are a lot of landscaping plants available. Also some small outdoor plants like the jasmine and some fruit trees like mango. Picked up an air plant for my office and a small venus fly trap for my windowsill at home. Both seemed lively and fresh. The staff was friendly and helpful. They don't have a lot of house plants but if you're looking more for outdoor plants and flowers, they have a lot. There's also a couple birds in the back that are talkative and fun.

My haul vanilla bean orchid, lemongrass, orange bird of paradise, night blooming jasmine, sweet almond bush, q few perrenials.

I am lucky to have this place local to me. I have been here a few times and the selection and prices are out of this world. It takes a lot of work to prologare and maintain their large selection. It is incredible that they are able to keep prices so affordable. Staff is very knowledgeable and often make great suggestions if you get into a convo and they know what you're looking to do. This is def my first go to place for plants/fruit trees. I have previously purchased a jackfruit tree and elephant ear Calocasia.

This is by far my favorite nursery in soflo! Truly a hidden gem and people are always surprised when I bring them here. Decent sized selection of houseplants, succulents/cacti, perennials, herbs, fruit trees, etc. to pick from and really great prices. Staff is super friendly and knowledgeable, always offering their help. I'm really fond of their bonsai collection. Sorry, it seems I don't have any pics, but there are some beautiful finished pieces AND a selection of plants and pots to build your own.

I was looking for a banana plant for my backyard. I have been wanting to plant one for a while but I have never gotten around to it. I was at the Home Depot this past Sunday and saw they had a couple of them but they were huge, and I would need to rent a truck to bring it home. I called around and I found Tropical Plants and they carry smaller 3 gallon size ones. Once I got there I realized that I have seen this nursery many times. While driving on University Drive in Tamarac. I am giving them four stars because the person who helped us was very knowledgeable and gave us a lot of information as far as how to plant and how to treat our banana tree after we get it on the ground. But the actual nursery itself needs a lot of attention. I saw a lot of half dead plants. Some plants were very expensive while my banana tree for instance was only $25 I don't really get their pricing, but then again I don't know what plans are rare and what plans are more common. But I do feel that they need to pretty up the place a little more. I haven't had very good experience with plans I buy at nurseries versus plants I buy at Home Depot so time will tell if this banana plant will stand the test of time. I will do everything the shopkeeper told us to do and I will do some research of my own but we will see. So far we had a good experience here

Aloe and Bromeliad(I think)

Oh my gosh this nursery is every plant geeks dream. There are beautiful gifts (I was picking up gifts for a friend) that are in adorable pots and beautiful decorations. I was greeted by the owner and every other employee working asked if I needed help as I looked around. The owner let me know that I could have any plant moved to a terracotta or fancy pot and they had a large selection to choose from. They have tons of succulents, cacti, etc to choose from. Unfortunately, I was in a bit of a rush and didn't get to look around too much or see the aviary, but I was very impressed by what I saw, I got an aloe plant and a beautiful bromeliad (I think- I'm no plant expert, please fact check me on this. I also did not ask enough questions because I was in a rush). One of the staff members helped me pick out appropriate sized pots and repotted them for me. I will be back and take more pictures and ask more questions! Their staff gave me watering directions as well and boxed up the plants for me. A+ nursery and customer service!

There are a number of plant nurseries on this stretch of Flamingo road and this one is rooted in the Japanese and Chinese style of gardens also known as Zen gardens which are characterized by their minimalist style and rock-and-gravel plant beds. Zensation Gardens sells handmade concrete fountains and sculptures from Bali, an interesting selection of bonsai trees, and indoor and outdoor plants that include bamboo, palm trees, gardenias, orchids, and colorful bougainvillea. They also sell artificial grass and offer landscaping design and installations, and LED lighting for your garden. Follow them on Facebook for dates for their beginner bonsai class. We texted pics of the damage to our neighbor with a promise to lay sod as soon as the work was completed. Finally! The work is completed. Whoo hoo! I knew to buy sod from Nu-Turf because I've done so a couple of times through the years. They are really nice guys and their St. Augustine sod is hearty. You can see it's grown in rich soil - look at the pics of the underside of the sheets of sod! We didn't even have to go to their shop to get great service. They make it easy - we actually called them on Monday, enroute to go shopping, to arrange for half of a pallet to be delivered to our house on Saturday. We weren't sure if we needed a full pallet and the guy who we spoke with told us that half of a pallet has about 40 pieces. That'd do it! We ordered half of a pallet ($135). There's a $45 delivery fee and a $6 pallet deposit fee so we'll return the pallet this week. They delivered the sod with no problem. They even asked us where we wanted the pallet dropped - we chose the swale between two main areas needing sod so we didn't have to go far to lay the sod. The sod sheets are approximately a foot and a half by two feet. We had enough to fill in the trench from the wheelbarrow, the dead zone where pallets of pavers sat on our front lawn and other bald work areas around the property. The product is great. The price is right. The guys were easy to work with and consultative. Don't you love it when companies come through for you? Years ago the guys in the shop turned me on to a retractable rake and plant hormone - I still use both and think that if I didn't shop at Nu-Turf I would have lost out on having insight about what to use and how to use it. Small Business Saturday is right around the corner - what a great time to buy from them!

Walking into Home Depot is dangerous for people like me…read more I came in needing ONE thing for grill maintenance and somehow found myself 20 minutes later holding random supplies like I was preparing to renovate a lighthouse. Once you get inside the Coral Springs location on Atlantic, it's basically home improvement nirvana. Endless aisles. Tools everywhere. Grills lined up like shiny metal monuments to suburban dad happiness. You walk in needing grill cleaner and suddenly start thinking, "You know... maybe I SHOULD build an outdoor kitchen." That's how they get you. Now, slight disappointment: I was looking for some more specialty grill care items and got hit with the dreaded modern retail phrase: "Oh, that's online only." Nothing crushes the spirit quite like standing INSIDE a warehouse the size of an aircraft hangar being told the thing you want exists only on the internet. Still, I found enough to get the job done and officially prepare for grilling season like a responsible Florida citizen. The staff was friendly and genuinely tried to help, although like a lot of stores nowadays, there's a heavy dependence on the app. Every question eventually turns into someone scanning something while staring intensely at a phone like they're trying to launch a satellite. To be fair, the app DID help. But I miss the old Home Depot guys who could identify plumbing parts from 40 feet away while chewing beef jerky. Overall though, solid experience. Good inventory, helpful employees, clean store, and I left with what I needed plus three things I absolutely did not need. Which honestly feels like the authentic Home Depot experience. Four stars.
