We visited Troon shortly after New Year's. It was very quiet, one other group showed up as our group of 9 was leaving, otherwise no one else was around. Beautiful setting, buildings are well appointed, with decent landscaping. The chalkboard tables were a fun choice, along with lovely art and interiors. The lady pouring our tasting was very pleasant and did a good job introducing the wines. The wine itself was enjoyable, simple and straightforward, not particularly complex, but very nice open flavors. A few detractors for an otherwise very pleasant time: it would be nice to have some small food dishes availabe to go with the wine, also although it was a nice place for Southern Oregon, the wine presentation was a bit more pretentious than the wine itself deserved. A lovely place, and we'd happily return. And, the wine must have been better than I thought, seeing as we brought half a dozen bottles back across the country with us. (of course, that may speak more to the low quality of swill that is passed off as wine in Pennsylvania!) read more

This vineyard has become one of our favorites not just for their great wines, but for the wonderful service we received in the tasting room. Lovely place to spend the afternoon. I am not much of a wine fan but I enjoyed their Rose "Jeanie in a Bottle" and their white wine. Their staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating to a large group while still taking care of the smaller groups there at the same time. Their grounds are beautiful and have a lot of things to do- like bocce, jenga, bean bag toss. Bring a picnic or buy some of their yummy cheese torts and crackers there. Great wine! I love the scenery & ambience here. The tasting room is immaculate, and the outdoor space is equally as gorgeous. On, nice Southern Oregon days I love getting a glass (or bottle to share) to drink outside. Last time I was there, I was pleasantly surprised that they let my 5 month old puppy go with me inside and outside on the grounds. I am forever indebted to Troon for that experience, and Remy (my puppy) adored it even more! The wines are superb, and are definitely above the average in the southern oregon, and applegate area. I am a huge fan of winemaker Herb Quady's unique style, and my taste buds can definitely tell when he has had a strong influence on a wine! Overall, I love every wine that they do, from their whites, blends, reds and to their Ports! The Rafting Guide Red really stands out to me, that is a very fun and approachable wine, and I like the southern oregon reference of the river lifestyle as well. read more

Bad service. Was not told about any of the wines poured. We had three people in our group. Bought one bottle of wine and asked to buy cheese platter and was told none were made. They opened a small package of oyster crackers to split amongst 3. We bought a bottle of medium priced wine and was not offered any waiving of tasting fees if bought a 2nd bottle. From our 1st experience at Troon, we joined the wine club immediately. Recently moving from Sonoma County (wine country), and accustomed to great wines, we found their wines exceptional. Everything we tasted was wonderful. Even more important then the wines however, were the people. The staff is so friendly and very informative. Troon is one of my top Southern Oregon wineries hands down. Not only is their Grants Pass location beautiful, but the customer service has been one of the best; our names were remembered after our second time to the tasting room, who else does that? The wines at Troon Vineyard aren't good...they're AMAZING. My wife and I have two wine racks in our house; one rack is for wine we buy at wineries, and the other rack is for Troon wine. As for the negative reviewers on here reviewing Troon, I think they should try this winery again. Sit out back with a cheese plate, a bottle of Zin, and contemplate the really important stuff in life, like where to tasting next! That's what we do. read more

We were tasting in the Applegate Valley 10/30/2010. Most wineries post a tasting fee and also credit back to a bottle price. This winery did not post a fee or mention one. Charged us $5.00 per person even though one person had one sip and did not credit the fee to the bottle we purchased. When I asked about it the sales person was snippy and said that it was "customary". We had tasted that day at four other wineries and two did and two did not charge. When the charged it was posted or immediately stated. I will NOT return or recommend them in any way. read more

The oldest winery in the valley, and home to some of its best moderately-priced wines. The property is beautiful-- There's a shaded outdoor sitting area with bocce, jenga, and other outdoor games. Having been to all the local wineries around at one time or another for some odd reason I hadn't made it out to Troon until recently with some family in from out of town. It was our last stop after a fairly long day tasting and was a perfect place to sit and relax before heading home. I had tried their wines at taste of Ashland and was impressed (love the druids fluid) but I do believe they taste even better when sitting in the beautiful tasting room and looking out on the vines! read more

Went here on July 3rd. Beautiful winery that we used to go to all the time. New owners now. The inside is bland (they need a designer). But worse, this blonde girl took my credit card and put it in the Square device and did not give it back. Unfortunately I did not notice at the time. I called that afternoon and left a VM with no return call. The next day they were closed for the holiday. I left another VM on July 6th during business hours. Called again same day and spoke with a nice guy who said their Manager was off that day but she would call me back and he would also leave a note for the "blonde" girl. I received no callbacks. Still don't have my card. Businesses should treat their customers better. read more

I first visited Troon when winetasting with my sister over Thanksgiving. We made our way along the Applegate wine trail and Troon was by far our favorite, not only for the location/scenery, but for the awesome staff and (of course) the wine! As soon as we walked in, the owner Chris greeted us and personally poured for us. The wine is super yummy and definitely a mainstay in my wine cellar. I live in San Francisco/Napa so have high standards for what a winery and wine should be, and Troon exceeds expectations every time. A must see on your next visit to So Oregon! read more

One of the very best for ambience in SW Oregon. When the weather is nice, which is often around here, it's hard to beat the outdoor setting, a large shaded patio and lawn with plenty of seating and two bocce courts. It's also nice to have a reasonable selection of food since it's such a pleasant environment in which to enjoy a snack or small meal along with the wine. I'm not a wine expert, so I won't play critic, but I know I like pretty much everything they serve, it just suits my taste. The counter staff treated us extremely well, although I in my experience, this facet of local tasting rooms varies widely from place to place and even time to time. read more

Went to a Wine Dinner on 7/18/15. Food was terrible. It was not palatable. Even if it was, the portions would not be big enough to keep a bird alive. It was $85.00 per person, definitely not worth it. Do yourself a favor and go out to a great restaurant and order a good bottle of wine and keep the change. Wine selection was not that great either, there was only one that I was even lukewarm to. I did not purchase any of the selections, and few people did. Management was in denial, but I was not the only one who felt that way. Sorry I could not recommend this place to anyone. read more

I wish I could tell you about the wines at Troon. They are a very popular winery here in S. Oregon, but I have never tasted their wines and likely never will. We stopped by the winery/vineyard in Applegate on our way home from Grants Pass one day. It was a weekend and the tasting room was busy. Apparently it was so busy that the staff could not be bothered to acknowledge our existence or to bother their existing customers to make room at the counter for more tastings. Or to come out from behind the counter to offer to do a tasting elsewhere in the tasting room or on the outdoor patio. We waited around for a good 10+ minutes before we just left after being completely ignored. We will not be going back. We stopped at another local winery and shared our experience, which they stated didn't come as a suprise as they often have people share similar stories with them. Unfortunate, but I agree with another reviewer: CUSTOMERS are your livlihood and if you do not provide service you will lose customers. You lost me. read more

I LOVE Troon, the very best wine paired with delicious food. You can't find another vineyard in the valley that compares with the quality of the wine and the unique dishes that are served. I recommend the Zinfadel Reserve, you have to try at least one glass of this magnificent wine. The venue is awesome, almost like you were in Tuscany, simple elegance sums it up!. We go often and usually take guests, and since we are wine club members we all taste for free. First of all I've never had experienced such horrible customer service in a long time from a "highly known winery ". I called in advance because I have a friend who is coming to visit and specifically wanted to go to Troon and I have not been there yet myself so we wanted to both experience it. So I called to get some information on tours if available, prices and hours and such. So I pick up the phone and dial the number and on the other line all I receive "Hi this is Erica"..... and then there was a pause. I then asked is this Troon Vineyard? and She replied yes is all. Now since this is a well known establishment I figured I would have received "Hi this is Erica at Troon How may I help you?" However, nothing near that was said. To me that is highly unprofessional. Then I proceed to ask about if they offer tours and prices. She kept asking me that I need to be more specific. I'm thinking well that is the whole reason I'm calling right? To get more information. Then proceeded to ask me 3 times if I was over the age of 18. Like I was lying and calling for the fun of it. Not to mention I had asked if she could ask her manager if you could call me back with prices if I had a group of 8 people. That was over 3 weeks ago. Guess what? NO call back. I am extremely disappointed because I really wanted to go and visit but after this phone call experience I can't only imagine what the service is like in person. Needless to say I will never go there and make sure everyone know my experience. I hope that woman either gets fired or needs some serious training on customer service! That or she is clearly not in the right business. read more

Troon is a wonderful winery to visit, and their wine is amazing. Their Chardonnay is over the top delicious (a real treat for those of us who like it oaky and rich), and the Druid's Fluid red and white are both legendary--I have yet to serve either to a single person who did not immediately consider it a favorite. The Kubli Cab is equally delicious. The winery itself is in a gorgeous location, overlooking miles of the Applegate Valley, not far from the Rogue River. Scenery doesn't get much better than that. Troon's tasting room is housed in a building that's beautifully laid out with a lovely, expansive bar that only feels crowded when they do have a full house--and that happens. I'm truly dumbfounded by the reviews on this site that mention being ignored or not treated with the utmost courtesy. That has not been my experience at all. In nearly a dozen visits, I've always been welcomed the very second I stepped inside, and always served immediately. Prices are available on a printed sheet, and I routinely read them while I'm tasting. I know most of the prices by now, but Troon is always bringing out something new. This is a terrific spot to picnic. Join the staff for food prepared onsite (with some really good music), or bring your own picnic lunch and buy a bottle of wine to enjoy on the patio. The ONLY thing I'd change if I could is to widen the road en route. As they say, getting there is half the adventure. read more
