TRM Transmissions is an old-school, full-service automotive repair shop that has been performing scheduled maintenance and major repairs for vehicles in Morristown since 1983. If you expect an espresso or cappuccino and freshly-baked pastries in the waiting room when you bring your car in for service, let's agree that TRM Transmissions probably isn't for you. On the other hand, if you expect your car repaired by friendly, knowledgeable, and pragmatic folks in a no-frills environment without spending a small fortune, then TRM Transmissions in Morristown is the place for you. Unlike most dealerships' service departments, with service advisors pushing expensive periodic maintenance and throwing costly parts at issues rather than considering the root cause of the problem, Gino and his team are old-school mechanics who may seem to be a little rough around the edges to some, but are very passionate about their work and provide high-quality service at a reasonable price. Now that the extended warranty on my car has expired, I don't have to take it back to the dealership for routine maintenance and major repairs and I have the opportunity to try some other repair shops in the area. When my SUV and my sportscar required some unanticipated repairs this summer, both dealerships threw me a long list of items they said were required to be replaced to repair the issues and quoted me an obscene amount .. along with a caveat that it could wind up being even more expensive once they started to do the work. Gino quoted me much lower estimates for a more concise list of parts and labor to address all of the issues.. and then overdelivered on his promises by getting the work done ahead of schedule and at a lower cost than he'd originally estimated. I'm really glad to have an auto repair shop with friendly, knowledgeable, and pragmatic folks in town and I'll definitely use TRM for any minor maintenance or major repairs in the future. read more

Lousy service. Gino, the owner, acts like a nice person but he's not. He's very dishonest. He did transmission work on my 2011 Mercedes C300 (replaced the planetary gears of the transfer case) in the transmission. Two days after I got my car back, the transmission was leaking fluid. I returned the car back to him. He said a $2.00 copper washer for the drain plug was defective. That's a part he was supposed to change routinely as part of his "claimed" repair. I picked up my car and headed home. A few days later, my transmission was making the same noise that it was making when I brought to him initially. He kept the car for a few weeks. I picked up the car and headed home. I drove the car for a while and it seems to be working fine. I don't think he did a proper repair as he claimed initially. He didn't replace any parts. He was hoping that opening up the transmission and probably replacing the fluid would "solve" the problem but it didn't. After returning for the third time, that's when he rebuilt the transfer case. A few months later, I move to Georgia. I drove the car from NY to GA. One day, I pulled up to my insurance agent's parking lot. The parking spot was on an incline. When I was getting ready to leave, I couldn't shift the transmission into reverse or any other gear! The shifter would move freely without engaging. I had the car towed to my house. I jacked up the car to see if I could find out what the problem was. It turned out, a small clip that held the shifter lever to the transmission gear linkage together had not been installed after the final repair. How negligent !!! I had been driving the car for over a year by then without that clip in place. I just happened to park on that incline and the linkage slipped off. It's a good thing that didn't happen while I was in transit. The transmission seems to be working fine. My car has been making a clicking noise since the second time I got it back. I have to live with it. I told Gino about it but he just ignored me. PS: I brought my Jeep to him for repairs and it's been making a funny noise like the muffler is knocking on something. I brought it back to him and he couldn't fix that either. Part of the repair included replacing the transmission fluid. At first he overfilled the fluid. I brought it back to him. He supposedly took some fluid off. A couple days later, I checked the fluid level, it was too low!! I didn't bother going back to him. That place is a mess. I wouldn't recommend that place to anyone!! Very negligent service. read more

On site rebuild of your transmission. Dealers only want to put in a replacement transmission which cost twice as much. They also do more than transmissions. Geno gave my car a once over and only informed me of stuff that needed to be done. He didn't push like the Dealers. Second time I took my car there for service other than transmission today. Work completed on time and below the original quote. I skated Gino the owner why he was still working. His answer,"Because I love working on cars". That's what I like to hear. And, a family business. When I took my Mercedes 4matic to the dealership for a noise in the front end, I was charged $400. for a transmission fluid service with a diagnosis for a new transmission, torque converter and transfer case for approximately $9,000. This was more than half the value of the vehicle. I had used TRM about 14 years prior and had remembered the owner Gino's honesty, expertise and communication skills. Luckily for me, he was still in business. I had the vehicle delivered from the New Jersey dealer to his shop and a day later he called me to tell me the problem was minor. A new valve body and harness cost me just slightly more than what the dealer charged for a diagnosis and oil change. The car runs great with the noise gone and shifts now as smooth and assured as the day the car was new . This level of customer service and satisfaction is very rare these days. It is a relief to know that this family run business is there when you need them. I was impressed to see that Gino has taken his son into the business and has been sharing his vast knowledge and experience with him. This will hopefully enable this family owned company to benefit their clients for another generation. read more

I had a hesitation during the gear shift from the 2nd to 3rd gear (automatic shift). But, if I use manual shift at different speed, it did not. Dealer looked at my car and gave me an estimate of $6700 for transmission replacement. Based on the review I found on the web, I tried this shop. The owner Gino looked at this matter and reset/reprogramming of the transmission and took care of it at the fraction of the cost about hundred dollars. Absolute worst experience I've ever had. It was the cheapest place I could find to get my wiper motor fixed, and the service sure as hell reflected it. We showed up to pick up my car and the man Steve came from the garage ready to take our money- mind you, he was not wearing a mask. My mother and I have severe asthma and calmly asked him to wear a mask. He told us he refused to wear a mask, and all of a sudden he was unable to check us out. He told us that we had to wait for his boss now and overheard him complaining to his friend about us and simply saying that he refused to wear a mask and that being the reason he would not help us. The owner Geno was apologetic and the work was done well, but it wasn't a dramatic request, it was for the health and well-being of myself, my mother, and those around us. They left my car for three days before finally telling me that they didn't have time to really fix it (I could have used that time to find another shop and not still be without a working car). I later discovered that the little bit of work they did looking at what was wrong resulted in them hooking up two parts of the engine wrong so my radio would not turn off when the car turned off and the gas line got screwed up so my car died on my way home. I had to pay another mechanic to fix their mistakes. I would never recommend them to anyone and will not use them again. The one plus was that they did not charge me for the work they didn't do, so I don't have to ask for my money back. read more
