Back when games were in person, you could find an NYC Trivia League game on any day of the week in multiple areas--the hosts are friendly and fun and the questions are challenging and diverse (from Shakespeare to Real Housewives)! They even have league standings and playoffs! How cool!!! What has been even more amazing is their tenacity through these really challenging COVID times. NYC Trivia League has kept me sane with quizzes 3-4 times per week that are absolutely FREE! What a wonderful organization for giving us something to do and a way to virtually gather our friends together. I recently hired them for a private virtual birthday trivia event and it was an AMAZING time! Friends joined from all over the country and were so impressed at how well run the game was and how incredibly fun! They even tailored so many questions to my favorite things--I CANNOT RECOMMEND THEM MORE! Please support this amazing organization virtually and when they are back in bars!

She was even familiar with the venue I was using and was able to provide specific A/V advice and guidance. She helped me add personalized bonus questions, and flawlessly incorporated my list of general interests into every round! The difficulty level was perfect and everyone participating had an amazing time. Everything took place seamlessly during the event - our host, Jude, was so professional, prepared, and helpful. She even paused for cake and took a group photo for us! The time flew and I am already plotting out what my next excuse for a trivia party will be :)

The Long Hall has a lot going on that does not readily meet the eye from its narrow shotgun profile appearance from the sidewalk and street. I walk in and the place was packed. I ordered a pint of well poured Guinness and thought someone would soon be leaving. Wrong, it was trivia night, things were just starting and people were filling every remaining saved seat and stool in The Long Hall. There is an app they use here at The Long Hall that allows people to enter their responses to the questions announced over the sound system of the pub. People are into this here and no one is leaving. Come on a Tuesday, get here early. Standing at the bar, I realized I had better order food to go: their burger (medium rare) with bacon and cheese and their fish and chips. They don't serve their burgers with onions, but they have the lettuce, tomato and sliced pickles. The burger was medium well, leaning medium, not medium rare, but came with plenty of bacon. Somehow at medium well, the quality of the burger meat remained detectable, just a bit overcooked for my tastes. The burger was good and the fries were very good. The Fish and Chips were a bit disappointing in that the cod fillets were of uniform shape and size, giving fish stick vibes. These were clearly more substantial than fish sticks and had the unmistakable flaky white cod inside a somewhat crispy exterior, but they were nothing spectacular. The tartar sauce was a good accompaniment and the fries were excellent. The burger and fish and chips were not on the level of other items on the menu, but the fries are consistently very good here. I saw people ordering the fries alone and cleaning out the basket in which they are served in short order. I might add the patrons here are as nice and respectful as the folks working at The Long Hall. 3.6 stars

I had been wondering about this bar for some time. I had kept passing it and it looks super cute…read moreand teeny weenie and brick interior just nestled on a side street of lower Chelsea. I'm going to quickly get to the downside because there are a lot of minuses with this bar. The beer is grossly over-priced. Ridiculously over-priced and most of everything on tap or in can is nothing special. Other Half IPAs aren't made of liquid gold. They honestly taste like plastic bags. There is no reason that they should be price marked at $12-14 a pop. But then on the other hand you have an interesting sounding cocktail menu with most drinks no more than $14-15. How are the cocktails the same price as the beer?! Where did I wake up today? They also charge you for charging your phone on a little dinky machine that was plopped next to me on the bar and they apparently charge $5 for playing trivia? None of these things make sense to me in my brain. I can do all of the above for free at any other place. Moving on to the pluses, I intended to only stay for 1 drink (I went the cocktail route obviously because I'm not about to pay double the price for a beer) but we surprisingly were caught up in a feel good moment and stayed for 3 rounds. The ambiance is nice. It feels homey. Like in the sense that I'm in an ultra expensive little nook in Brooklyn that perhaps used to be a little bookshop vibe but then you're paying Manhattan prices. We ordered for the most part Old Fashioneds and the last drink I switched things up and tried their RoseBud: Vodka and house-made rosewater lemonade. The mix was unique. It was sweet and salty and a little floral but not too overwhelming. Delightful cocktails. Happy hour I think is $2 off of drinks but it ends early at 6pm. I didn't explore the food menu but it seems medium priced of burgers, sandwiches, fries, etc. Worth a spot checking out but I wouldn't be a regular. Key word is laid back and cozy.
