Whenever I want to be transported to a makeshift European bakery, then I come to Breadsmith. Mind…read moreyou, I've never been to Europe but that's beside the point, haha. The breads at Breadsmith are fresh and made daily. I don't come here often but I should. I love walking inside to the delightful smell of fresh breads. I first tried one of their breads, the Rustic Italian bread in January 2019 when I bought it from Nature's Oasis in Lakewood, a little cafe and convenience store (see video and picture below). I finally visited Breadsmith in October 2021 and I've been back a few times in 2024. I've bought their white Country Buttertop Bread ($6.75) which can be bought sliced or un-sliced. I've also had their Honey Wheat (I believe that's the name). Both tasted so fresh and good. After 3 days, their breads will start to taste stale because they are made without preservatives. Next time, I'll ask if I can get a smaller loaf of bread instead of such a large loaf because I can't finish a whole loaf by the 3rd day. They also sell muffins, cinnamon rolls, honey, etc. I haven't bought any of those but I've had their pepperoni roll before which was just fine and slightly expensive. I wish they sold croissants. Come here for the bread and stay for the friendly customer service. I'll definitely be back. The cost of all their breads are reasonable. TIP -- They offer a customer loyalty punch card. After you've bought 12 loaves, you get the 13th for free. **** GOAL of 150 reviews in 2024 - 41/150 total reviews in 2024 - 691 total overall Yelp reviews - Reviewed on 2 June 2024

So so so so friendly! Did I mention how everyone was so friendly? Haha!…read more I drive by this bakery in my way to work but only just finally made the stop to check it out today. At around 11am, they were already out if most pastries and desserts but still had a lot of sliced breads available. Thanks to the helpful staff, I picked up a 1 lb loaf of the European Rye (the bread that started it all decades ago) and a cinnamon twist for a treat. Now this is what real bread tastes like! Most of their bread is sourdough based and tastes heavenly. I had a slice of the European Rye to test it out before bringing it home to my family. It was so good, I almost don't want any of my family to have it! The cinnamon twist was gone in a flash. A few seconds in a microwave and the heavenly aroma was all over the office. Both items cost me about $7 in all. I think those are great prices for great products! This place is a little off the beaten path (bakery is in the back... you'll see a cool 1965 vintage Chevy by the door) but it is very much worth the trip!

A big point in their favor - most places put the peanut butter on when the crepe is still hot, which creates a messy, liquidy mess. These folks do not. The peanut butter was thick, rich, and creamy all throughout. Big time props for that little attention to detail. My only regret is not being hungry enough to also get a savory treat. It's counter service, but they encourage you to grab a menu, look it over, and order. Great. Advice. It's a nice little spot with WiFi and underrated coffee. I needed to go get my own beverage from the cashier. Believe it or not, We bussed our own table of dirty dishes. No follow up was provided asking how our entrees were. The restaurant was not busy, so there's no excuse for the poor service. The soup had one tiny piece of chicken in its broth. The bowl was filled approximately one fourth of the way up. The crepe was bland. This lunchtime adventure was a total bust. Disappointing. Plus (The desserts in the case looked old & dried out).

I'm so sad about this, but this was not my favorite experience at Leavened. Customer service was great of course but my selections fell short. I got a mushroom and ricotta croissant, which was fine. I forgot the ricotta was supposed to be there because it mostly tasted liked mushroom, but it was good. I also got the cinnamon monkey bread. This was not good. It was seemingly cooked in the paper that it was served in so the top of the bread pieces were crunchy, the middle was softer and then everything else was completely stuck to the paper. I didn't get to eat about 1/3 of what I paid for and I had to work really hard for the other 1/3. Also, the bread had a very spicy taste. It must have been cinnamon and allspice, but it was entirely too much and very overpowering. It truly tasted like a spicy savory bread which is not what I was expecting or wanted. Monkey bread is usually gooey and sweet. This missed the mark, but that's okay. I'll certainly return for another treat soon. Also the bread was looking fire this day.

The bread was fresh and crusty, there were two small strips of tofu that had maybe been dribbled on by hoisin sauce at some point, some lettuce and jalapeño slices, and carrots. The sandwich was dry as a bone and a really sad empty version of a banh mi. The chocolate rye cookie I bought as a back up was thankfully still deliciously chocolatey and soft as usual. The guy at the register said the bread pudding still has a "cinnamon roll base, so it has orange in it" despite nothing in the sign denoting this awful addition to bread pudding and the fact that cinnamon rolls are not orange rolls. But I digress and I won't fight with a cashier over their poor decisions lol. Also got a cherry chocolate sourdough on impulse. Pray it is soft inside.
