I hadn't been to the dentist in over 5 years, out of pure fear. After several bad dental experiences in the past, I decided that my reoccurring nightmare of my teeth falling out was bound to come true as I decided I would never go to the dentist again. Then I met Dr. Hoppe (recommended to me by other friends) she's really amazing. I don't think there is a bigger wimp about going to the dentist than me, and she totally turned me around. Her theory on, "If it's painful, then people don't return" totally won me over. I'm actually looking forward to going back in 6 months for my routine check up. If there are any other dental-phobes out there. I highly recommend her. She said that all the scardy cats eventually wind up in her office. It's easy to see why. read more

No matter how long it's been since you've been to the dentist, they are glad you are there now so they can help. They are gentle, professional, and never shame you or give you a hard time. I've been going here for years, but I still clearly remember my first trip to their office. They checked in with me to find out not medical information, but about my dental experiences in the past. They really care about you as a person. For example, a few years ago my husband went in after my father died. When they found out, the entire office sent me a sympathy card. I was so touched by this sweet gesture. My husband, who was not a big fan of going to the dentist, is now more diligent about his appointments than I am. The front office staff, the dental hygienists, and the dentists are warm, wonderful people and want you to feel comfortable. They even have TVs and headphones you can use to help you relax during procedures and cleanings. Making appointments is easy and the office staff works really hard to find a time that works for you. Sage is great for everyone, including people with dental anxiety, and they really do care about you while providing exceptional dental services. I can't recommend them highly enough! read more

Dr. Kimes is awesome! She and the entire office staff are kind, compassionate and went above and beyond to make the procedure comfortable. A topical anesthetic was applied before the injected anesthetic, they repeatedly applied vaseline to minimize lip dryness,and they even massaged my jaw after the procedure! I have a crush on my dentist. It's hard to flirt with a dentist, though, because she's got her hands in your mouth, uncovering fetid pockets of decay, and your salivary glands are working overtime while her assistant is sticking all sorts of implements in there to mop up. It doesn't exactly play to my strengths... Years after a really bad experience in the chair, I've found Dr Hoppe, and she has cured me of any phobias I once had. Her staff is professional, warm, courteous, and wholly concerned with the patient's comfort. Dr Hoppe is very friendly, and while I was in her chair, she made sure I knew as much or as little about what was happening as I wanted. She even has flat-screen TVs with headphones so you can watch TV while she's working on your oral maladies. How sweet is it to not have to hear the whine of the drill? Dr Hoppe herself called me the next morning after my appointment to make sure I was not in any discomfort. See why I'm crushing? It's ironic that my first appointment with Dr. Hoppe went down on the day that Justin's ROTD broke. When we got to talking about it in her office, most of the staff had a peek at the posted review and got a big grin about it. Curiously, though they all had terrific things to say about Justin, they didn't mention his gigantic mutton chops clearly seen in the photo, or for that matter, from earth orbiting satellites. And I was really bummed that I forgot to bust out the Stephen Wright joke about Wright's cute dental hygenist, and how in order to spend time with her he preps by downing an entire box of Oreo cookies ahead of time. All that aside, I can see how easy it is to walk out super happy about the treatment you receive here. Dr. Hoppe and her staff (in my limited experience) are as sweet and enthusiastic as they are thorough, and specialize in those of us who may be a little nervous about taking a seat in the chair. It had been waaaay too long since my last trip to the dentist, and she went above and beyond to assure me that all was not lost. As of this sitting, she's formulating a treatment plan for me, and I'll know more about how my next several visits are going to shake out soon. But in the interim, it's such a relief to find a dentist who's equal parts competent and caring. In fact, it's something to smile about. read more

Well, I originally liked Dr. Hoppe's office and her staff, not including the office assistants. However, that love fest didn't last long. I began to find out that she has a very abrasive personality and we clashed hard. She was having trouble with another patient in the next room and I patiently waited for her to finish. She had to take "extra time" for herself to regain her composure before seeing me, so another long wait. Let's say she carried that poor attitude with her when she was with me, it wasn't professional at all. She fixed a crown and when I came back for the following visit, it wasn't sitting right so I asked her to adjust it when she said, "You know, I can't be your dentist any longer, I can't work with you" or something to that matter. All in all, I think it had to do with money in the end. I would never recommend this dentist, nor would I ever go back. Beware. read more

Shame on me, I thought I'd written a review of Dr. Hoppe and I hadn't. Bad Jaye J., bad. But Dr. Hoppe? Good! Very good! Kyle H. recommended Dr. Hoppe to me a couple of years ago and I have not been disappointed. I've never been a fan of the dentist because I usually feel nauseated for a while after I go. I have no idea why, but I do dammit, I do. But, for some reason, this doesn't happen with Dr. Hoppe. For one thing, she and her techs are really fast and thorough, so that means less time spent with my head back in the chair. In addition, I can watch TV or listen to my iPod while they work. Not that I've had to have much work, but if I ever did, it would be Dr. Hoppe who did it. read more

I despise going to the dentist. I have tiny little teeth and giant gums, like Ren from Ren & Stimpy. If there is a pokey dental tool in the same room with me, it will find my soft squishy flesh and jab it unmercifully. Also, I have a "wandering tongue," kinda like a lazy eye, but it's my tongue, and it tries to lick dental hygienist's fingers when they stick the pokey things in my mouth. All of this is magnified when I'm novocained and slobbery. Dr. Hoppe and her patient, chipper assistants have always put up with my shenanigans, and there is no way I would willingly see another dentist. Well, maybe Dr. Latiolais, but I draw the line there, unless I chip a tooth on week-old Cinnabon at the airport and I'm like "is there a dentist in the terminal?!" and somehow I find one, and he reattaches my tooth with icing and tinfoil. Like Dr. MacGyver, DDS. But that's the only way. This is the best dental office ever. I dare you to find a better one, and if you do, I'll yawn and be like "Pssh, please. Dr. Hoppe rocks hardest." read more

*** READ THIS IF YOU HATE THE DENTIST OFFICE! *** I had been avoiding the dentist chair for a good few years and then some dental issues came up where I couldn't wait any longer. So I was forced to find a dentist in Austin and was recommended to Dr. Hoppe by my new husband. From the day I stepped in she made me feel comfortable. My dental anxiety was a 15 on a scale of 1-10. So to help make the exams and upcoming crown appointments I had a little less stressful, she prescribed me with something to help calm me down. Her staff from the front desk, her office, the sweet lady Martha who cleans your teeth and of course Dr. Hoppe herself, made the experience bearable! Now don't get me wrong... I still hate going to the dentist, but Dr. Hoppe makes it ok. And I'm happy to say I can go in now and feel comfortable and safe without having to take anything for the anxiety. First of all, the chairs! I was getting my old silver fillings replaced with pretty white ones and was in the chair for a while. The chair was SO comfy -Tempurpedic! The 2 hours passed by so quickly. Dr Kimes was so gentle and her asst Heather was extremely informative about each step. They took their time and were careful not to let the old amalgam powder get released into the air I was breathing. My teeth look amazing and the old fillings are now updated~! Update old fillings? I never thought that I'd actually *like* going to the dentist. Nikki is, by far, the best dentist I've EVER been to. (And she's adorable.) She's refreshingly bright, and she listens to you, gives you kind practical advice, genuinely cares for you and your health, and you can tell- is just really good people. She was incredibly quick with me, too. So considerate when you're as busy as I am.. And she's just so smart, too- she obviously knows her stuff... I just don't know that I've been really *cared* for more by a dentist. I had to go in for an initial cleaning- which she handled better than any dentist I've had... and then later one of my old fillings was infected and I had to get an emergency root canal. I thought I was going to die from the pain of it- and she SOO quickly eased my mental and physical pain and got me taken care of with the speed of a gazelle and the grace of someone who'd been doing it for YEARS AND YEARS. When I tell my friends how quickly she handled me they're SHOCKED. I refer ALL of my friends to her- and they've all said the same wonderful things..... Dr. Hoppe and her staff are fabulous! I relocated to Austin and was in need of a dentist to finish my treatment from a bad car accident. Dr. Hoppe not only finished my dental work but did research to learn more about the implant the oral surgeon had used on me so she could make sure she was giving me the best level of care. I had a previous dentist refuse to treat me because of this very reason and to not damage her reputation so I can tell you from lots of personal experience with dentists, Dr. Hoppe does not only pride herself in excellent results but she is also very caring of her patients. BEWARE! If you call their office and ask if they work with your insurance they will tell you "yes, they work with all insurances." What they neglect to say is that they are not in-network with ANY insurances. After expressing my sadness to leave my former dentist because they dropped Delta Dental, I told the front desk I was looking for a new dentist that would work with Delta Dental. They had amazing service at the beginning, sitting me down and asking me if I had any worries, filling our a dental survey and finally asking if I had any questions. After service like that, I was absolutely shocked when at the end of the visit they asked for a $30 (I think) payment. Preventative treatment is covered 100% by my plan and after explaining that and letting them know there shouldn't be a fee, the front desk lady still dodged mentioning they weren't in-network. It finally took me getting frustrated and asking again if they work with Delta Dental and she said "yes, but we aren't an in-network provider - we wouldn't be able to offer the services we do if we were in-network." I had heard great things about Dr. Hoppe from friends, so when I returned from a trip to Colorado (where my husbands best friend -a dentist had given me new crowns) with a lot of pain, I called the office and they got me in right away. They didn't make me retake all x-rays but instead treated me quickly by adjusting my bite (a crown was too high) and even got me back in 2 days later for a follow up and didn't charge me! The women in the office are so friendly and it was so nice to be whisked right in since I was in pain. They treated me like a long time patient. By the way, I saw Dr. Latiolais because Hoppe was out of town, and I loved her! read more

I was referred to Dr. Hoppe for a crown on my front tooth. I have had the crown for awhile now and I started noticing a grayish line right by the gum. I was really worried that I would need a new crown and not wanting to go through that hassle and expense right now but knew it needed to be done. When I got to her office it was really nice, the staff was wonderful and if it is possible to make taking xrays of your teeth pleasant, that's what they did. I was even offered lip balm after the xrays were done! They were very gentle and I was already thinking this practice lived up to it's reviews and then I met Dr. Hoppe. She was so so nice and friendly and sat down next to me and asked what I thought about internal bleaching to correct the discoloration instead of redoing the whole crown. I had never heard of this process but it's much less time consuming and a whole lot cheaper. Why had none of the other dentist consultations I had gone to told me about this? I really appreciated that she thought about me and helpful options instead of saying "yep, you need a new crown and I'm happy to replace it". I was so impressed with her and her staff that of course I would have had it replaced but to find out I didn't need to and had a cheaper and less invasive option was great. She referred me to Dr. Shell at Westlake Endodontics and they performed the procedure which worked wonderfully. I'm a little sad that I didn't have any work done but as soon as I am due for a teeth cleaning I will be switching to her. I don't have dental insurance but I know that the extra cost will be worth it. She even sent me a thank you note in the mail after my appointment. I can't wait to go back! read more

I was in town for work when I tripped and landed on my face - severely chipping my two front teeth. This happened 24 hours before I had a presentation in front of all of my coworkers, boss, and the CEO. DISASTER! I called every dentist's office I could find in Austin, and none had availability. One of them referred me to Sage Dentistry, and they found room for me because of the "emergent" nature (I mean sure, I wasn't in pain, but it was certainly a cosmetic emergency). Thank goodness I ended up here. Dr. Kimes was not only kind and efficient, but she did a gorgeous job. My teeth actually look better now than they did before I chipped them. The crowns are perfectly straight, and there is no visible line where they are bonded. She was clearly a perfectionist, making sure they were aligned and that my bite was comfortable. I thank my lucky stars that this was the office I ended up in. In addition to Dr. Kimes being a true artist, the rest of the staff were so sweet and helpful. I live in the Dallas area, and I am considering making this my general dentistry even though it's in Austin - they are THAT good! read more

I've just returned from seeing Dr. Latiolais with my dad (73). What a fantastic experience! I have been a patient at their offices for about 6 months. I love their positive attitude, professionalism and eagerness to please. I've had very positive experiences with both dentists--they treat our whole family (3 sons). My dad moved in with us nearly a year ago and has been totally "dental resistant" since he moved from his hometown out of state. He has heart disease and is nearing the time for hospice care. Basically he thinks, "what's the point?" The point is clean, healthy teeth to enjoy for the rest of his days. He's taken meticulous care of them all his life...and I don't want him to stop now! I made and canceled 3 appointments before he FINALLY agreed to see Dr. Latiolais, who has extensive experience working with geriatric patients. They had been warned he may be difficult, cynical, and rushed. But I think the office staff charmed him into a hypnotic state (without meds!) before he even hit the chair. Dr. Latiolais got him chatting about his former life as a professor...they discussed books and students before she even looked at his chart. I could tell she had reviewed his xrays and medical records thoroughly as she spoke with him. They had a great rapport, and she worked fantastically with him. To my surprise, she cleaned his teeth herself using gum-sensitive products and tools. He was totally relaxed and compliant. I might say he really enjoyed himself! We were thrilled to hear his teeth are actually in great shape. She understood his practical approach and desires, and was so flexible. We had not planned on the cleaning/consult to be one visit--but I was thrilled they combined these appointments just for him. All in all, I could not be more pleased. It takes more than dentistry school to be a great dentist. I truly think both Hoppe and Latiolais possess the whole package: They have excellent skills, compassionate bedside manner, and the gift of kindness. read more
