The Trio Grille was a pleasant surprise for a quick lunch. Attached to a bowling alley, this bar and restaurant exceeded expectations with its ambiance and food quality. I had the blackened chicken sandwich paired with parmesan and garlic potato wedges, both bursting with flavor and absolutely delicious. My wife chose the fish tacos, which were also flavorful, though the tilapia had a slightly fishy taste that wasn't to our liking. We ended our meal with the panna cotta dessert, which looked fancy and tasted delightful. Kudos to the friendly and helpful staff, especially CJ, our server, who gave excellent recommendations and provided personable, attentive service. So I went in on a Friday when driving through town to get a quick beverage around 5pm. The place is in or connected to a Glo Bowl. The atmosphere of the restaurant is pretty open bright and nice. After some chat and hearing that the fish fry is popular, I thought ok, I'll give it a try. I haven't had a fish fry in years. I had the three piece cod, battered and fried, with side choice of fries. It also came with a roll and coleslaw. You can also get Walleye, or all-you-can-eat for a few more bucks. Coleslaw is not my favorite thing but I thought I'd try it. It was kind of tart and vinegary. Still not a fan so I left that alone. The fish was the star of the show of course and was pretty great, I have to say. Cooked so the fish was tender and flaky inside a crispy crust. The fries were fries, and I took most of those and the role home. The pretzel roll would be for a little sandwich later. All in all for the price a surprisingly decent meal. Just tried this place last night. Wasn't sure what to expect as it is adjacent to a bowling alley. But it was top notch with great atmosphere. A lovely dining area with fireplace and comfortable seating. A full bar. We could not hear anything going on in the bowling alley. I had the BEST STEAK WRAP I ever had. Hard to choose from lots of variety on the menu. Lots of choices to pick from for your side dish. Our waitress was friendly and efficient. Perfect! We will be back! We just had a really bad lunch. Which we drove 30 mins for. We ordered Italian wedding soup, chicken wings with a dry rub and a burger with chips to share. The soup came out first. It was very under seasoned. With some S&P it was better. The wings were boneless and swimming in a sauce. They looked unappetizing. The burger came out with fries instead of housemade chips. Our server brought out chips, and took away the boneless wings. The new wings came out well after we finished the burger. The burger was extremely well done and very dry. The wings were great. We were in a large group of about 7 or 8 people and used up 4 tables. Still plenty of room to eat and have our paper work out too. Our waitress was quick to get our orders and gave us the 3 minute heads up so we can put our work away before the food came. That was cool, we weren't rushed at all. First time there on Friday evening and so glad we went. From the Crystal Lake - Huntley area and it was a little cold and snowy but very pleased we drove out to Marengo and extremely happy with our meals! The parm encrusted walleye was delicious and my husband and mom had the fish fry which was fabulous, not at all greasy and the fish used was fluffy and fresh. The mussels appetizer was very good, we like a fresh tasting appetizer and it did the trick. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! Not what you would expect for a restaurant in a bowling alley! Class ALL the way! I wandered in on Friday night with my daughter and a friend, and was immediately greeted by the friendly staff, clean and tasteful decor, and the incredible aroma of saganaki. As I heard "OPA!" I felt the positive atmosphere and saw smiling patrons while walking to our table. Our waitress was enthusiastic and energetic and had a great smile for us. She took our drink orders right away and gave us time to decide what to order. That was not easy an easy decision, as I've been there many times before and never had a bad experience. Everything on the menu is delightful. I decided on the fish fry. My choice was beer battered, but there were other choices like fried etc. My potato pancakes were crisp and seasoned, the fish was piping hot, light and flaky, and even the tartar sauce was pure perfection. My daughter ordered her favorite meal there: the veggie panini and the sweet potato fries, and my friend ordered the roasted salmon. Trio did not disappoint. The quinoa that accompanied the salmon was a side I had never had before, so I asked for a taste. That will be my go-to meal the next time I get to treat myself to a night out! The portions are always large enough for a to-go bag, so we were too full to order dessert. I will keep that in mind for my next visit and try to remember to order dessert first! The menu is quite diverse and everything sounded good. Wish we'd had more friends along so we could taste more. The Boom Boom Shrimp were terrific (similar to Bang Bang Shrimp at Bonefish) and a huge portion. I had the Balsamic Marinated Steak with Creamed Spinach and Cherry Tomatoes. This was terrific and then they had some amazing mashed potatoes on the side. My wife had the Chicken Entree, but unfortunately, they just had some plain mashed potatoes with them which were boring compared to the ones I had and should be removed from the menu and replace with the better recipe. I went to Trio Grille for the first time and was blown away by the family friendly atmosphere and great menu. Definitely not what you expect when you think of a restaurant in a bowling alley. The staff went above and beyond to be accommodating to everyone's orders, especially with our large party. The Baked French Onion soup was amazing, and the meal just kept getting better. The Boom Boom Shrimp hit the spot! It was crispy and the sauce was sweet and spicy. I ate the whole plate and was extremely satisfied, can't wait to order more. I tried a few of the drinks on their cocktail menu, but by far my favorite was their adult root beer float. I had to order a second one since my girlfriend kept sneaking sips of mine. We will be back there very soon to enjoy our favorites again, and to try some new items on their constantly changing menu! read more

Trilo Grille in Marengo is connected to a bowling alley and someplace I never would have found, but is certainly worth looking for. An innovative menu, a modern look, and a Friday fish diner that was outstanding. The staff was attentive, pricing very reasonable and portions were perfect. If you're in the mood for all you can eat and enjoy a grease coma, this may not be the best choice. If you're in the mood for a good meal in a well designed space that's affordable, this is the place. With a name like Trio Grille, you hardly expect it to be located in a bowling alley, but it is...We went here on Saturday night after my friend kept bragging about how good it was for lunch the other day. We got there about 8ish. It wasn't very busy, we were greeted and seated quickly. Our server was nice but the service was slow. Like I said, it wasn't that busy but it took forever to get a bud light bottle from the bar. My friend ordered a mai tai that she ended up sending back because it was overloaded with alcohol. I ordered the bruchetta for my meal -- which was fantastic. However, my friend ordered a steak sandwich medium rare. When it came out and she cut into it, it was as we like to call it "still mooing". Again, our server was nice about it but the damage had been done. The one huge plus is that you can't hear the bowling going on right out the door. Its got potential. I just hope it was and "off" night for them. If you want to grab an appetizer or a beer while waiting for someone to finish bowling -- this maybe the place. Next version had deep black lines seared into most of it, and still tasted burnt. Manager was rude and condescending when explaining, "we char our meat." I know COVID has hurt many restaurants, but ever since they have changed the chef the food has been effected deeply. The food is flavorless and without texture not to mention the very little to no seasoning just makes it all that much worse. My husband and I frequent Trio Grille at least once a week, sometimes more. We love the staff there and the food is excellent! Because we re there so frequently we have tried many items on the menu. They have a staple menu that is always available and then a small and large plate menu that changes. The staple menu: good food as expected from a good spots bar. One of our favorites is the Monterrey Chicken wrap. It has lettuce, red onion, cheese, chopped fried chicken, and ranch dressing in a tortilla. It is very tasty and easily one of my favorites off of the staple menu. We have had several other things off of the staple menu and have enjoyed it all. I tend to order things and have them alter it a little (I get the wrap unwrapped in a bowl instead of in the wrap) and it is never a problem. The fish fry I would also highly recommend. The small and large plate menus are my favorite. They really allow the chef to shine and gives us some additional variety as we are there a lot. My favorite so far...the Tilapia Florentine, it is amazing!!! I am not even a big fish person but I ordered it every time we were there when it was on the small plate menu. It is now on the large plate menu and I highly recommend it! My new favorite small plate is the toasted ravioli in sriracha marinara! It is yummy and is a great small meal or you could get it to share as an appetizer. Overall we really enjoy the staff, the service is good, and the food never disappoints. Margherita pizza was great. Crust was crisp, it was nice and hot, service was good, but a little slow, and the drinks were cold. Trio is attached to a fun-center and bowling alley, but it's separated with double doors and it's not noisy in there. The Trio shares its space with a bar, which I'd consider upscale, and they had the Cubs game on, which was nice. Couple folks in there were cheering, but it wasn't bad in any way. read more
