I love this place! They have my style of Mexican food, best paella in town, great combo of seafood, and there's a fair amount of seafood in it for the cost. The waitresses are also really, really nice. I am by no means fluent in Spanish, and I'm sure I sound hilarious trying to order. But they don't give me grief, know what I mean while I'm stumbling in my horrible american spanish, and will also try to teach me how to say it I've only managed to say paella correctly but that's about it. Overall the food was fine. Service was not great. Our waitress would disappear for long stretches. We ordered fajitas, and an order of fajitas came with 4 of the smallest tortillas I have ever seen in my life (I asked for flour). I asked for additional tortillas, and was told I would be charged for them. I literally could only put 3 peppers in one tortilla they were so small. She told me that if I would have ordered corn tortillas I would have gotten six. She did not tell me that when I placed my order. There was an infomercial on the tv, so the ambiance wasn't great. The salsa was a little bland and lots of broken chips as if they gave us the bottom of a bag. We ordered the Burrito california style. Cali burritos in actual California are normally a burrito with fries and guacamole but this was not the same, it was filled with peppers, so we were slightly disappointed, but I guess we should have asked to clarify before ordering. I went back to give it another try as promised, since the first visit was kinda a train wreck and like, did I even go to the same place? Obviously busy, it was a Taco tuesday kinda night, but much more manageable for their staff it seemed. 5/5 Food/Drinks - 3 tacos for $5, yes please they were sooo good, I had the typical mexican style, super tender and juicy while my fiance got the american style which he througoughly devoured every bite. The onion and jalapeño were a very nice touch to it, and frankly they were grilled amazingly well not too mushy but not undercooked, still a slight crunch to them. The queso (cheese dip) was great! Although I think I preferred last times chipotle one better than the plain but thats a preference thing. Margaritas were on point you couldn't even taste the alcohol it went down as smooth as a mango lassi. 5/5 Service - Nothing to fault service on this time, it was fast and efficient. We walked in and got to choose our own seats shortly after chips and salsa were brought out. Then the waitress came by for drink orders which came out guickly then we threw in our food order and it came out in a reasonable amount of time. She came by to check on just enough times that it wasn't lacking but it wasn't overly bothersome either. Overall super satisfied with a complete 180 from our last experience. Order was a decent and when I arrived for pickup the tight quarters and customers at the bar, picking up food and workers made me feel a little in uneasy. We've been driving by this place since we moved in and finally made it! I am so glad that we did! The atmosphere is fun with heavy, traditional decor that is probably handcrafted. The bar is amazingly well stocked and the variety of fun cocktails is mind boggling. We tried an amazing tequila - not cheap but worth every penny! The chips were homemade and delicious. I especially loved the habanero salsa. My BF and I shared a crazy meal for two that came out on a big metal serving box and contained shrimp, several kinds of chicken and beef, peppers and cactus. I don't know what it was called but it's impressive and delicious! The staff was friendly and helpful and even the other customers chatted with us. The best part about this place is the big margaritas and the combo platters. I was able to mix and match and get exactly what I wanted which is amazing. Normally refried beans are included, but I asked for black beans and was pleasantly surprised that they had them as most authentic Mexican restaurants don't carry black beans. Taco Tuesday three taco special for just $6 at Chilos Mexican Grill. My favorite authentic tacos. Asada and Al Pastor (my favorite here). Comes with a freshly grilled leek. I had a little difficulty finding the restaurant. It's located in an old Pizza Hut building. The interior of the restaurant is in very good shape. The booths, tables, etc.... It says to me that the ownership cares about the restaurant. I ate here for lunch. I was very pleased with the service. As you can see in my picture the chips and salsa are a cut above what you will normally find in an inexpensive Mexican restaurant. I had the king burrito with chorizo. A new Mexican restaurant in CL (used to be Pizza Hut building). Restrooms (baños) is in the basement so it's not handicapped accessible. Nice brand new interior with some awesome bar stools. Was served chips and salsa. Ordered 1 fish ceviche tostada. Was served a plate of ceviche with 3 crackers and no tostada. I had to ask the server to replace it. The ceviche was not fresh and flavor was very acidic. This was supposed to be for $3.95 according to their menu but as you can see from the pic they charged me $10.95. Ordered the taco dinner, 2 pastor and 1 tripa with onions and cilantro. Not recommended, there are other mexican restaurants around the area that's better. read more

The service was ok a lil slow to refill our drinks but no biggie. The pork taco had nice flavor. The steak one was good to. Everything was good and a little bit special, the rice had garlic in it, the enchilada & chili Relleno had a nice tomato sauce, and they give you a choice of authentic or americanized versions. I tried this place after hearing great things about it and I was a little disappointed. It was very clean, which I appreciated! Many of the Mexican food places I love are not as appealing on the inside as this restaurant was. It had nice booths, tables and decor. However I didn't love the food. The food came out and looked beautiful, but it lacked flavor. None of the salsas has any heat to them which was a little disappointing. My family and I agreed that we did not like the rice here at all (normally a family favorite). I ordered tacos. They had very little flavor and the steak was very dry. The music was also very loud pop music which made it difficult to carry on a conversation. The service was excellent but the prices are steep for bland food. Overall I would recommend trying a different restaurant for Mexican food. Unfortunately I will not be back. read more

Brand new location in Crystal Lake, in desperate need of training. When we first entered the building we were shocked at how hot and stuffy it was inside. We ended up in a table against the wall, turns out we were lucky we did because the people near the windows looked miserable. They don't have any blinds to block the bright sun, nor was the air conditioning working. It was really uncomfortable. It got to the point that one of our guests got up and looked at their thermostat to see if it was on. It read 93. The server came out and took our orders. Then came back later with some of, but not all, the food. We didn't have any silverware on the table so we let her know that for when the last meal was going to be brought out. The last of the meals came, but no silverware. We told her she forgot and she left to get it. She came back to take more drink orders but again we requested silverware instead. Finally we got 3 out of the 4 people's silverware rolls but she missed the last. At this point we are all sweating and laughing because we felt like it was a joke. My wife ended up walking to the manager to request one more silverware roll so we could eat. The manager was rude and told her to wait. He then made a few drinks as she stood there, and after he was finished he gave her a roll. When she came back to the table and gave the roll to the last guest he opened it up to find it only had a knife in it... Finally the dumbfounded waitress came back to check on us and we told her we needed a freaking fork so we could eat. I mean this was the most ridiculous thing that has ever involved a silverware roll for me. They didn't have them on tables, no one was bussing, manager was rude and unhelpful. Food was okay though. They only have one POS so you can't pay if someone is putting in an order at the same time. These guys need to get someone in here fast to get them on the right track. read more

The food here was amazing! Crystal Lake didn't necessarily need another great Mexican restaurant, but they got one! Lol. The seafood menu is huge. The place is packed with Latino people dining (always a good sign when eating foreign food). The decor is a little strange but keeps with the seafood theme - pirate chairs for dining, boat helm decorated booths... We had the al pastor chimichanga and it was the BEST al pastor EVER. We eat a ton of Mexican food all over the area - Crystal Lake, Woodstock, Barrington, further south in Lombard etc, and I've had al pastor everywhere but this was the most flavorful with bits of caramelized meat and exquisite flavor.
