Twig & Vine Design - Front yard landscape design in Montclair, New Jersey

    Twig & Vine Design

Last June we moved from Montclair to Verona rather suddenly, to a home built in 1871. It is on one…read morehalf acre bordering a park. I asked Cynthia of Twig and Vine design if she would be interested in helping me sort out the overgrown garden and discuss its potential. I know that gardens require patience and observation, but I needed to get started on the back. Boy, did Cynthia deliver. Her drawing, which was measured and planted perfectly, gave me the perfect vision for the plan. Her choice of plants was spot on, and she "rearranged the furniture" by finding places for the existing plants that were healthy. I love her spontaneity and the way she works with the team at Red Maple. Those gentleman are friendly, hardworking and loyal to Cynthia because she is very clear about what she wants. They KNOW how to plant even mature trees, and how to move existing plant material so it survives in its new spot. I wish they were my weekly garden caretakers. My neighbors were so delighted by the transformation. They asked for Cynthia's card. This Spring we tackled the front of the house. With Cynthia's encouragement we trimmed and pruned and observed last summer, fall and winter...and the bones of the garden began to appear. With Cynthia's help this year we have the next step completed...adding privacy and some outstanding tree specimens, including a Serviceberry column, an Acer Griseum and a stewartia. I look forward to our final act together as we replace walkways and steps, knowing her skillful, trained eye will put the final touch on that. If you love to garden, you love nature, you have a profound respect for the green in your life, then Twig and Vine owner Cynthia is the woman for you. As for the reviewer who had trouble with her work style, Mother Nature is our guide...things aren't available, it pours for weeks, plants get rejected for quality and there aren't anymore, and flexibility is necessary.

Even after we had some of the trees pruned, grass was still out of the question. Ugh. Shortly before contacting Twig and Vine, we put in a herringbone, paver patio back there. We wanted to frame it with a jewel garden. Cynthia came over very promptly after a phone call, surveyed the area, understood our limited budget and got straight to work. It was a great appointment - she was easy to talk to, welcomed our ideas and explained which plants worked and where they didn't on our property. When she returned, she had a couple of ideas estimated out within budget. A couple weeks later, we had a young, beautiful jewel box garden with a gorgeous silver birch tree, leafy hostas, feathery astilbes, lime colored grasses and mini hot pink roses, to name a few, hugging our patio complete with privacy trellis that would soon have hydrangeas climbing all over it. We LOVE it. Everyone who ventures into the backyard is delightfully surprised and ooh and ahh over our secluded, 'secret garden'. The kids have the yard - we have this. With a fridge in the garage, string lights and the addition of a fire pit, its perfect. This lady knows what she is doing! P.S. She gave me a comprehensive plant listing with care instructions so I wasn't left in the lurch and is always available for questions which usually results in a house call!

I told Ken what I wanted and he said he could turn our property into the envy of the neighborhood. I was skeptical at first. I needed flowers and shrubs. The side and rear of the house were just ugly dirt and gravel. I wanted a side patio of pavers and rear walkway to cover up the dirt and gravel on the sides of the house. A walkway from the rear walkway to the rear deck. There was a shed with a cement walkway that had to be removed. This was no small task. They tore down the shed and cement walkway and cleared out and leveled out the rear yard. They had to remove over 20 yards of dirt and rocks. They had to move a small tree from the middle of the yard to the corner. They planted new flowers and shrubs with existing ones put down new sod . Then install all the hardscape. It was quite a task. When it finally was finished I couldn't believe it was the same property. Now when buyers come to see the house the first thing they look at is the beautiful new yard. Ken and his crew at Artistic Bamboo did an incredible job. I would highly recommend them for all your needs. Thanks Ken

    CLC Landscape Design

    CLC Landscape Design

Short Summary: We can confidently recommend CLC Landscape…read moredesign for your landscape project - big or small. They take pride and ownership of their work, and they continue to provide support well after the project is finished. Full Details: In our neighborhood, there's no shortage of landscape design companies with their trucks advertising in front of all the different houses. After seeing some of the amazing photos of CLC's work in magazines and social media and reading about their family owned and operated company, we reached out and met with CLC and instantly connected right away. They seemed much more attentive than other companies we contacted, listened to our ideas, gave great advice, and their vision aligned with ours. Our project included removing some trees, re-grading our yard, adding a small round blue stone patio/firepit, plantings and new sod. While our project may have been a smaller one, we were still treated the same and given the same attention and detail as a much larger project. The design phase of the project was invaluable as the created renderings really helped us envision what the end goal would look like. Next, when it was time to break ground, our initial project manager Alex went above and beyond, even taking time out on a Saturday to go stone shopping with us. When Alex had to attend to a family emergency, CLC quickly adjusted and sent us the dynamic duo of Gary and Pat who immediately stepped in, took ownership of the project, and made sure everything continued to run smoothly. Gary, in particular, was in constant communication with us, keeping us updated on project details and assuring us that everything would stay on track. He's a Zen master - when he says don't worry, we're going to fix this/do this instead/I have a better idea, you just feel confident about the end result. Our foreman, Enrique, also deserves an honorable mention as someone incredibly detail-oriented, who always wanted to do things the right way, no shortcuts. He treated our yard as if it was his own, constantly trying to make everything perfect. We appreciated even the little things he did - like staging plants/trees in the shade to protect them from the hot sun or even coming in on a weekend to water those plants. Everything he did demonstrated the attention, care, and pride in his work. Things would look good to us but not to Enrique's sharp eye, and he'd smile and go over it one more time just to be certain. Was our project 100% completely smooth? Of course not, no project is, but Pat/Gary/Enrique/Alex and the rest of the CLC team always adjusted, tackled issues, gave us advice, and figured out the best way to solve whatever problem was at hand, which left us feeling at ease. And, in the end, after the work was finished, everything was cleaned up, no debris left behind, Gary continued checking up on us, weeks later, to ensure our sod is growing properly. And now we can sit back and enjoy a beautiful backyard that we know was done the right way and will provide us with joy for many years to come.

I had a home inspection done on…read morea house I was purchasing and the home inspector recommended that I get a structural engineer to check for a POSSIBLE problem with the main beam in the crawl space, and in the attic for a POSSIBILITY that some trusses might have been removed. I contacted Roy Dedeic for him to come out and evaluate the structural integrity of the stated above areas. I had bad vibes from the start when I met him. When Roy came out to the house he brought his son that he introduced to me as head of the building division of the company. That alone didn't seem right because it was not certain that there was any problem with the structural integrity of the house. They were evaluating the structure for almost 3 hours. When they were done Roy promised that I would receive an emailed report in 2 days. Two days later I did not receive the report. The next day I called Roy and asked about the report and he rudely shouts at me that he had emergencies and did not have time to complete my report. He then promises that I will get the report by the next end of day. The next day he still hasn't sent the report. At this point I am having real bad vibes about him and his company. I decide at this point to contact the town building codes dept to see if I can get someone to come and inspect the attic, and crawl space main beam. I was lucky to have the head of the Township building codes and construction to come out and inspect the above areas. I was very happy and relieved to find out that the Township found NO structural problems with the attic or the main beam in the crawl. Finally a WEEK LATE Roy emails me his report . The report states: MSD REPAIR ESTIMATE * MSD #1 (Affected roof rafters and truss bottom chord members) repair $5,000. * MSD #2 (Affected/damaged crawl-space joists and beams) repair $10,000 * Engineering design and supervision $2,000 Total: $17,000. Thank God Roy the deceiver was late with his report and I was able to get the truth from the Township and was able to get the house I really wanted. By the way, Roy also made an insult about my beautiful dog.
