My experience was very bad here. Came here several times for trouble breathing, feeling like throat…read moreis closing up and irregular heartbeat. Was seemingly lied to and belittled by every ER doctor here. Was told by a Dr Kelly " oh you feel like you can't breathe, What do you expect me to do there's nothing, what what" As also told by a Dr Kelley that four broken and possibly infected teeth would not cause breathing problems because respiratory is not connected to mouth at all (lie?). Dr. Womack and Dr Grayson repeated this. Dr Grayson also snapped and said heck if your teeth are bothering you see a damn dentist. We don't care about that here. Was told by a Dr. Silacci " your trouble breathing and heart problems are not the concern of this hospital." Was told by Dr. Davis "why are you expecting us to help you, how dare you expect us to fix your engine when this place is for tune ups. (Doctor likened patients to worthless pieces of scrap metal.) A nurse one time even put the pulse oximeter on my middle finger, showed me my own middle finger, laughed and then exited the room. Very bad. Hospital says that they will help you regardless of who you are or your ability to pay. They will not. I've had trouble doing things all my life. No one is really going to care what is really going or why something happened. Just shut up or TS. Things never really do get better as they say. Don't come here expecting them to save your life because they probably will not. Only worse. Don't know a place that is good to go as the healthcare I experienced in the area has only been bad. If you can't go elsewhere or fight for yourself....thats all she wrote. Even though you try to do what they day, you never really do get what you need. So keep that in mind as well folks. Whispers of gay conversion therapy also reared its ugly head. Didn't know that was still a thing. Yikes!

Excellent hospital very helpful to my mom in the ICU and ER. They need to EXPAND and RWJ does not…read morehelp them do so as the main company. I do not know why .They are great, work well with other people and have plenty of kind people for our community which is growing. A patient tower and parking deck need to be added to the hospital, and then add a few more things. More needs to be done from the Corporate system not just for Cooperman Barnabas and RWJ in New Brunswick but for RAHWAY as well. Lets start a major addition and campaign

Emergency room lacks professionalism, skill and compassion. Male nurse on duty 11/18/25 (evening…read moreshift) violated infection control protocol by not washing or sanitizing his hands before putting on gloves to draw blood. Additionally, he left a used syringe and vials with blood on top of a med table. An empty vial was observed logged between the gurney pad and metal frame. Also, he stuck bloody tape to the gurney's mattress cover. His technique for drawing blood was sloppy as blood spewed all over arm and blanket when he removed the syringe. This nurse failed to introduce himself upon entering the room and appeared to be disturbed. It appeared that the blood samples collected were compromised due to his poor handling of the vials he collected............ This was evidenced by the Lab who notified me 2 days later that the blood samples had been contaminated and results were not possible. Needle caps and used cotton gauze were o served on the floor. A section of the room's wall had holes possibly due to the removal of equipment. The clock on the wall needed a new battery or repair as it displayed 7:00 for the entire 3 hours we were there. The letters of a sign posted on the wall to indicate the duration of certain standard emergency room procedures were faded beyond legibility. This is obviously an urban/inner-city hospital in need of a massive overall and an injection of millions of dollars and retraining of professional staff. Considering reporting deficiencies to NJ Dept. Of Health and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid.

I called for a patient information on 5/12/2026, at 2:30 pm…read more I pressed "0" for an operator. The operator was tired, harassed, or is a nasty person. Those who work at the hospital are all very helpful. But this operator was ready to criticize, blame, and not to listen. I have had nothing but good experience at Summit over the years I used it. This operator should be retrained if retrainable.

The staff is RUDE and dismissive. You go to the nurses station with multiple people just talking…read moreabout what is coming up this weekend etc... Or, they are on their phone completely ignoring patients. Do they think I am standing there for 10 minutes to what? Just eavesdrop? Well I do because I am completely ignored most of the time. Some of the MHA's are incredibly nasty and unhelpful. Not to mention that the website is misleading at best. They do have music/art therapy and sometimes chair yoga. Other than that there are 0 psych processing groups. Sometimes a social worker will come in maybe once a week to do a group. Other than that no AA/NA groups, therapy groups or anything as indicated. All day long you can sleep, play games or color. The food is ok at best. Some items a step up from being inedible. Fish or chicken is your food 90% of the time. It is a locked holding cell without treatment. Unless it is the only place your insurance covers dont bother. I will say it is clean and safe in my opinion. Again, the staff treats you as though they are doing YOU a favor and do not need to treat you with respect as a patient. Trust me, nursing in my unit was the McDonalds of nursing. Yet they were slow and completely bothered to do anything their job REQUIRED. Of course not all the nurses were bad. I am speaking overall.

Overall excellent experience. Went to the emergency room for pain in my lower right abdomen turned…read moreout to be appendices. I had to have an appendectomy. All went well I was out in one day. I recommend to all patients who go to ANY hospital, you must ask questions. It will make your visit more comprehensible to you and your family. Know what meds you're getting, ask why is it being given, and ask about whatever you're diagnosed with. All questions are valid and help you and your team of doctors get the best care that's right for you. You have the right to refuse meds if you don't want them. It's all in your patient's bill of rights you sign upon arrival. The one thing that could have been improved on, was the communication of staff within themselves. I am lucky I'm not afraid to ask questions or question things. You must! it's your body and you should know what's being administered and why. Overall, this hospital was great. Dr's bedside manners were friendly and knowledgeable. The nurses were informative. I have to say I had a good experience considering I had to have surgery. I would definitely recomend this hospital!

I would strongly advise anyone to avoid this hospital if at all possible. My son was brought here…read moreby ambulance, so unfortunately we didn't have a choice because of where we were at the time and that's the only reason we ended up here. The ER experience was one of the worst I've ever had. Registration didn't even happen until 3 hours after we arrived, well into the visit. My son provided a urine sample that sat on a table the entire time and was never tested. While one nurse was a tad bit decent, the rest of the staff showed a shocking lack of professionalism and basic respect. Staff members (including security) were standing in the hallway laughing, having personal conversations, and at one point I heard someone ask a coworker, "Are you ready for your next victim?"--completely inappropriate in a medical setting. The cleanliness was unacceptable. I noticed red spots on the floor and brought it to a staff member's attention, concerned it was blood. I was told, "That's not blood, that's pizza sauce," and they walked away without addressing it. The bathrooms were in terrible condition! We saw urine on the floor, backed-up toilets, and even spider webs in the corners. The place smelled like old urine! There were patients in the hallway in beds because I guess they ran out of rooms? No privacy whatsoever!! It also felt like care was delayed due to a shift change--we were left waiting until the next staff came in rather than being properly attended to. Overall, the level of care was extremely poor, and my son's issue was never fully addressed. The most alarming part came after we left: I realized in addition to my sons discharge papers, I had been given another patient's discharge paperwork, including highly sensitive information like EKG and chest X-ray results, bloodwork, address, phone number, date of birth, medications, reason for his visit and medical history. I contacted risk management three times and never received a response. This experience was unacceptable from start to finish. I would not return here under any circumstances. Please, if you have a choice, go somewhere else.
