I am sorry to say I had a very bad experience at the mountainside medical center ER: I hate to give bad reviews but I have bitten my lip for much to long now. It has been a year since I was carried into the Mountainside ER by the EMT and 4 Firemen, who I want to thank again! I was involved in a snow blower accident where by the commercial snow blower kicked back and then landed on my right knee. The pain was incredible, I could not move my leg at all and if it was moved even the slightest, the pain was enough to put me in shock. Well, once I was carried in ER. The doctor on duty scheduled a x-ray. MRI's are not available at this ER. Crazy! Also there was not orthopedic doc available. The tech came into my room and asked me to come with him. Ok, really. I told him I could not move at all. So he said oh, I wasn't told. He then left and came back with a portable x-ray device. The angles he tried to move my leg, when I say I would of rather had my teeth pulled out with no novocaine then this pain. After that was complete a 1/2 hr later the doctor came to see me to tell me he saw nothing on the x-ray. I was shocked. He told me to follow-up with a orthopedic doctor. The nurse came in with a full leg brace. She asked me to lift my leg so she could put the brace on. WHAT WEREN'T THEY UNDERSTANDING! I could NOT move my leg. Finally she tried lifting my leg and straightening my leg to fit in this brace thing. Screaming like I have never before. The PAIN I would not invite on anyone! Once my leg was in the brace, she asked me to get up. I still didn't get what was going on. I COULD NOT MOVE! The Nurse and my wife then help me off the stretcher. I wanted to shoot myself in the head at this point. No matter how I describe the pain I felt to you all. It is not even close to the real pain I felt. Well fighting through it, with the nurse and my wifes help I was standing up straight. Now what I said. The nurse wanted my to lower myself into the wheelchair. Now again, any slight move the pain was overbearing. So frustrated at this point I dropped into the wheel chair. SCREAMING ! The pain beyond what any human could take. I said get me up! GET ME UP NOW ! Well sitting was not happening. To now make this long story a bit shorter. I took baby steps to my car that my wife went to get. We have a SUV so she was able to help me get in and lay flat. Once home it was a Sh$# show. Getting out of the car. Up the steps. Well of course the pain got the best of me and I fell from the pain and then laid on the ground for over a hour saying don't move me. Friends came later and got me into bed. I schedule a appointment with a orthopedic surgeon. I had to get there which was not easy. Here is where the story gets interesting. HE LOOKS AT THE XRAY AND SAYS HERE IS THE ISSUE. YOUR KNEE CAP (PATELLA) IS UP IN YOUR THIGH AND YOUR PATELLA TENDON IS COMPLETELY RUPTURED IN HALF. YOU NEED SURGERY ASAP. THANK YOU MOUNTAINSIIDE HOSPITAL FOR making me endure the worst pain imaginable and THE worst experiense of my life. I will never walk right again because of you. : (

Terrible hospital never coming here again might as well stick to my neck of the woods Hackensack !

Worst hospital to come to got here yesterday at 7 pm it's 6:21 am and my fucking results haven't came out yet then some stupid ass nurse called Mercedes comes out of no where as I talking to my nurse to give me lip or attitude i wanted to get up and slap her ass for disrespecting me but she lucky I was sick I'm going. To put a complaint against this piece of shut hospital and they'll be Lu it if I don't sue they asses for over testing me and not writing the correct info into there system they made a big deal about me peeing in. A fucking cup after I told them 20 times I removed my tubes last year and was also on my period today ! I can't have fucking kids u stupid idiots ! Get it together shitty ass not organized right and y'all all fucking suck! If I can give them no stars I would

So I went to this hospital since my boyfriend recommended it to me but I was hesitant to go due to all the bad reviews on yelp. He recommended it to me because I was in severe abdominal pain yesterday. Upon arrival all of the staff members from the security guard to the secretary, nurses, technician and doctor were all extremely friendly and professional. The person that made the biggest impact on me while I was there was a nurse named Tracy. She accommodated me so I could feel more comfortable. She made me laugh because I was crying due to the severe pain I had. And also she insured me over and over that everything was going to be all right because she saw how nervous I was. Another person that I remember quite well was Gaston, even though all he did was escort me from the ultrasound room to the regular patient room the whole experience on the way there he made me feel comfortable because once again he saw how nervous, afraid and how much I was just overall in pain. The only complaint I have is that I feel as if the staff from nurse one to nurse to to the head nurse to the technician to the registration person ... should have just overall better communication with one another because I had to keep on repeating over and over to different people (5) The exact same story over (of why I am there & what hurts) and over and over again. And when you're in pain it gets kind of annoying doing that but like I stated in the beginning, I really enjoyed this hospital and I'm really sad that a lot of people have given bad reviews because I don't think this place deserves that. Now I'm a healthy woman I exercise on the regular, which means I highly doubt I will be back anytime soon but if I do happen to have an emergency then this will definitely be my first pick. Thank you once again to the awesome staff there I love that you guys love what you do and keep making patients feel comfortable. Tip: due to Covid they are not allowing patients to have a guest with them.

It was not busy on a Sunday morning. Got seen in an hr. Staff was super nice. They had free wifi in the waiting area and a station to charge your phones. They did not allow any visitors due to Covid either inside or even in the waiting area which many people were very upset about. Its normal to wait even in the ER to be seen so no complaints from me since I was just stabbed in the finger.

I cannot thank enough, Dr Brian Koch, Michelle Rombough, Traci and every person present at the ER on Wed Jan. 22nd for saving my life. I cut an artery in my left hand with a broken glass when I was washing the dishes. They quickly stopped the blood gushing out of my hand. If it weren't for their well training and professionalism, I wouldn't be here anymore. The care I received from all of them was outstanding. I appreciated they non stop explained me what they were doing and why. Everyone was kind and compassionate. Im very grateful to all of them.

My Urine sample that I heard the Dr ask to be processed twice, left unprocessed over two hours.
Holly P.

I was neglected for hours and when I asked after a simple urinalysis the charge nurse came in the room and was incredibly aggressive and confrontational asking me if I " had a problem " after my urine had not been processed for 2 hours. I saw the same nurse berate a college and ignore me when I asked where I could exit. She encouraged a patient who made nasty comments to me while expressing myself and was incredibly confrontational over a urinalysis that her staff failed to complete. I waisted 5 hours of my life. I left without care. Do yourself a favor and consider any hospital before this one.

Wouldn't be treated there for anything but a bad cold. It's a for-profit hospital and it shows I pity the poor employees.

So I needed to get to an ER bc I knew that Urgent Care wouldn't be able to provide the services I…read moreneeded so I of course did a little research before deciding where I'd go and although the reviews for Clara Maass weren't the greatest, the reviews for Mountainside were just as bad if not worse, so, since Clara was closer I gambled on going there. The check in process was the absolute WORST! Their computers were down, however, that wasn't the issue, the issue was how the front desk reception team handled it and that was absolutely terrible! Rude, impatient and condescending. Then when they finally came around to getting a bit of order back, they handed me the wrong ID back and said someone would call me back shortly ... SIGH! I was there for a severely sprained ankle and instead of saying someone would wheel me back in a wheelchair, they saw me limping, asked if I needed one, and let me decide on what needed to happen. Once I was in the back I must say that it was a complete 180. The Physician Assistant, Nurses, Radiologist, Support Staff ... everyone was AMAZING! And I felt well taken care of and left confident in my "diagnosis" and follow-up care orders. This is an absolutely torn review because of the first impression ... because let's be real, that's the lasting impression. So, given this, 3 stars is all I can give overall .... If the front does better they'll quickly get to 4-5 stars overall.

No one came to talk to us no dr or nurse etc about how surgery went nothing. I'm very upset about that. Had to beg for pain medicine. Also the staff or people in area of the room is noisy. Each time she fell asleep she was awoken with noise that was preventable. When you're in pain you're trying to sleep through it hard to do. I'm disappointed overall as a mom you want the best care for your child and not hearing from a doctor is frustrating. Plus the rooms are weird. The setup is not even one part of the room is bigger than the other. One side of the room is extremely small I could barely fit with a chair I was uncomfortable as well. The whole experience was not good in my opinion. Compared to my own recent hospital stay it was night and day.

I'm surprised by the low rating for this hospital but then again, I can only speak for the ICU. Every doctor and nurse (ok, almost every nurse) were amazing in their attentiveness in caring for my father. No request we had was too great. No questions were a bother. Everyone was extremely helpful and took the time to explain and go over everything that was happening, about to happen or might happen. I just want to shout-out the angels (aka: nurses) of the ICU, especially Jon, Olivia, Barbara and Sean. The ICU waiting room was definitely a second home for the three weeks of nearly daily visits that I made here. Patient Services is located inside the waiting room and they definitely put up with dozens of family members sitting around for hours with Dunkin' Donuts Box of Joe's and loud Polish voices talking and laughing at all hours. Patient Services hooked us up with playing cards, stress balls, blankets and allowed us to use a reclining chair in the room so we could take turns napping. Best of all, they put my family on a list for parking so that we wouldn't have to pay the daily fees. That made visiting a bit less stressful to maintain for three weeks of constant visitations. I wish I wasn't there at all and that I didn't meet all the amazing people that work here, but I did. And for that I can't give them anything short of 5 stars. (Kind of morbid to be reviewing the ICU on yelp, I realize that. No one ever ends up here by choice.)

I originally wrote this review before the 2024 Memorial Day holiday weekend. I rated the facility a…read more"2" then, but more recent experience on May 28, 2024 requires I lower the rating to "1"! You should read the review, but what caused today's revision was learning the MRI report I was informed had been sent the ordering physician on Friday 5/24/24 was not the whole story. A fax was sent Friday, but it was not the actual report. The incompetent party who sent Friday's fax sent a questionnaire connected to my MRI report, but not the actual report. So, it took multiple phone calls on 5/28/24 and tons of frustrating wasted time on 5/28/24 to finally get it done. So? I had used both the hospital and their ambulatory care center a few times previously. Both are in Livingston, NJ. This review regards an MRI that was performed on May 20, 2024. The procedure itself was unremarkable. I did not wait long for an 8AM appointment, which is one of the pluses. The staff were also pleasant and professional. So, why only a 2 out of 5? Everything that followed has been nightmarish and totally unacceptable. It seems since Robert Woods Johnson took over, this place has gone to hell. The followup post-MRI has demonstrated a dysfunctional, disorganized, and non-empathetic group of medical practitioners. What I think of them is unprintable. It's now Friday May 24, 2024 and for three days both I and the ordering physician's office have been calling to get the MRI results sent to the ordering physician. We keep being told the results are not ready and can take 5-7 business days. Huh? I've had MRIs before and results should be available within 24-48 hours. This 5-7 business days is an inexcusable travesty. There's worse though! Worse is there's no one to talk to about why the MRI results should be expedited. This lack of a report is delaying another procedure. And I'm suffering physically due to this facility's lack of efficiency and lack of caring. Every call I seek a patient advocate, but there's no such person. I am told to speak with Ed Figueroa, the radiology department head. That would be great, if he'd answer his phone or return his calls, if the alternate phone number on his voice mail was an actual existing phone number. Unbelievable? It sure is. Uncaring and unsympathetic. No patient advocates? Unheard of. I also tried the ambulatory care center's concierge desk. Donna, a pleasant sounding woman tried to help me. That ultimately went nowhere though. I called her again 2 hours later. Again she's pleasant, but ultimately of no help. Call backs thereafter and she will not pick up the call. Now she's dodging my calls. This is an abomination. This place is to be avoided. If I had real convenient alternative choices, I'd make them. For now, I'm stuck with these folks.

My sister needed three images - an MRI, a Catscan, and x-rays. The Catscan report came within a few…read moredays. Her doctors needed to read all the reports. I contacted Mr Figueroa. Even though we had our designated OB Doctors assigned for delivery, resident doctors are equally helpful and skilled (especially Dr Gabriela Portilla-Maldonado). My wife was admitted and discharged in 67 hours. It was planned induced labor, and we were asked to get admitted around 830 PM EST, but even they made us wait for 90 minutes (the room was getting cleaned) Labor was induced around 1 AM by Dr Gabriela Portilla-Maldonado, and it was a painful but, I guess, memorable experience for both of us We were helped by many nurses through delivery, then Postpartum room, and except a couple of them ( I guess they are still learning), everyone was so good, especially Jean during delivery. Post delivery, it was Shruti, and Ava, Rebecca, and Jeany during Postpartum. I have nominated them through their Daisy program. postpartum time: Room was big, facility was top notch, some lady also came to take our feedback regarding cleaners, and food. Food: Their inhouse cafeteria is good too. though husband was not covered and they need to pay seperatley, but wife had no issue in their food. You can order through their Menu, The only issue was that they close by 730 PM. Some not so good experience was also there- some newbies nurses were not skilled enough to channel the injection for IV fluids and if they cant get success in first attempt, they should have been called their experienced one to take the charge. so there we had bad experience. but overall, facilities, doctors, security, process- everything was top notch. Also, it was expensive. My wife was admitted here once in emergency (pregnancy phase), it was just for 3-4 hours, and we got a bill for $7316, and even after insurance, we had to pay $2263. Parking: It's $7/day. Once paid, it's good for the whole day

REVIEW OF ER ONLY:…read more Going to the Emergency Room is scary. Earlier this month, I had to go to the ER for sudden and increasing pain. Fortunately, I received quality acute care and was taken care of well during my visit. It had been almost ten years since I've walked foot in this hospital, formerly Saint Barnabas, now branded Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center. I got to see the new wing/facilities when I was wheeled around to get an ultrasound. It's all new and impressive looking. I was joking with my transport professional about how I remembered that there used to be a McDonalds at the hospital. The intake process was smooth. It's a stressful situation, but they were great at the intake counter and security was friendly also. Every time a medical professional interacted with me, they gave their name and were clear with what was about to happen. I felt safe and heard as a patient.
