We had a hard time finding a groomer for our wire haired dachshund, as he doesn't get along with other dogs and the other groomers we've tried around Forest Hills either required us to leave him there for hours on end or just didn't do a good job. Trim Up the Pup is perfect for us. The van comes when his appointment is scheduled and 45 minutes later he's all set. He's had a bath and a trim with Amanda both times, and he always looks adorable and happy when he's finished. The only reason I'm not giving Trim Up the Pup 4 stars is the difficulty in making an appointment. As other reviewers have noted you have to leave a voicemail and then play phone tag until you get someone on the phone to book an appointment. Like most services they book up quickly for Saturdays and evenings, so you have to begin this process a few weeks in advance of when you actually want your appointment. I'ts a bit of a hassle but well worth it for us to have a happy, handsome pup. read more

We tried Trim Up the Pup last night. First of all, this is a very convenient service which comes to the door and has the added convenience of accepting a check as payment. We also found a great ease in obtaining an appointment. The cost of the grooming for a bichon frise was $65. Flavio was the groomer and he did an excellent job. My dog came back calm and happy, very clean and nicely groomed. He took special care to make sure that his warty growths were not damaged. Tucker smelled very good and I think he listened to what I wanted him to do. Good job! read more

I was seriously looking forward to using Trim Up The Pup for my dog's grooming ever since moving away from my favorite in Bergen County. I don't get the whole "call back and leave a message, and someone will call you back." idea. Why not just get over it in one call? So I call and leave a message, hoping to get a call back from them that day/night. Nope, they call the next day and I miss the call. I call them back and the guy (James, I believe) says he'll call me back later. He doesn't call me back that night, but calls me this morning and I miss the call again! (I was underground.) The whole phone tagging thing is so stupid and unprofessional. Just call me back with the prices. How hard is it to give me a price on a 12lb dog getting shaved?! Made an appointment with them a week in advance, had an emergency medical situation, Called to reschedule and was told "YOU CANT DO THAT!" in a rude tone by whomever answered the phone. Definitely a big NO. What horrible customer service. I was recommended this groomer by a fellow dog owner in the neighborhood. It seemed convenient, but how misleading a mobile pet groomer can be. I saw other reviews on how terrible it was getting a hold of anyone at this business, and how it's all voicemail and phone tag. Well, these reviews are dead on correct. I called on Monday and of course, left message, asking about availability for that night or Tuesday evening. No call back until the Tuesday while I was at work, so I missed the call. Called back that evening...and again, voicemail so I again left a message. He called back again, and I couldn't grab phone fast enough so just missed it, called immediately back to again get voicemail (like he purposely will not answer phone). I decided to give up. Today (Wednesday), he calls in a bit of rushed tone that he has a cancellation, and that if I'm home now, he can work on my dog. Ummm,...no, it's Wednesday morning, I'm at work. So he says, "Okay, I'll have to call you back." I said, "Sorry, but why did you call me? The last message I left was to see about Wednesday night or Thursday." He said, "I was calling you now because I had a cancellation. I have nothing for tonight or tomorrow, so I'll have to look at my schedule and call you back." I said, "sure"....not expecting to hear back. Guess what...I was right.....5 hours later and no call back. This business is so unprofessional. Not worth the aggravation. read more

although everyone seems to have had either a bad or semi bad experience i thought i would give them a try anyway. When I called i was sent to voice mail but that's understandable because they are an on the go company, i received a call back 20 min later (btw most of you complaining about the phone tag problem should really stop its your fault you missed the call back) I made an appointment for 9/18/2014 at 10 am which was perfect for me. They arrived on time, the young man was extremely friendly and my daisy loved him. He took about an hour with her and i must say the job was amazing!!!! my little Pomeranian has never looked better :) the price was reasonable too $65.00 for a wash,cut, nail trim and ear cleaning :) plus they parked right in front of my door so i was able to keep an eye on the van. I saw their mobile grooming van outside when I was walking my dog one time, and I saw a perfect opportunity to get his nails groomed. No one was in the van, so I called them, and left them a voice mail! 2 hrs later, I got a call back! They said they would call me when they could to book an appointment when they were back in my area to groom my dog! I did not hear from them, so I called to follow up about 2 weeks later, and got their voice mail (again!), and said I would like to make an appointment and asked when they would be in the area. I was a new client. My dog is alpha, so this would be perfect for them to come up to me or for him to be alone in the van. I have yet to get a call back wondering when his nails could get groomed. Ive been dealing with Trim up the Pup for a few years now and i Love it. Listen is the calling back and forth put offish - sometimes but in the end I trust Only James with my baby. He has such a peaceful demeanor and Paris is always in good hands. She comes back in amazing shape, happy and well groomed. We have had great experiences with Trim Up the Pup. They arrive on time and take good care of my little Yorkie who can be very shy. My dog seems extremely comfortable when we leave him. The van is very clean and you can't beat the convenience of someone coming straight to your home. They trimmed up my Yorkie in about an hour which is much better than leaving him at a groomer all day. We are always able to get an appointment quickly. Feel bad to write a negative review but want to share my experience so other customers will be more careful. I set up an appt for friday 8-12-16 @10a.m. At nite my dog had diareha so i called tutp at nite but their mailbox was full cudnt leave a msg. so i texted that i need to cancel as my doggie not well. In the morning i tried again n was able to leave the msg that i have to cancel appt. but around 8:30 i got a call from tutp cfming appt. at 10 n told him that my dog is not well. He said the groomers are on their way he is not in ny n cant do much. He made excuses if he is not in nyc he shud call the groomer to say that a certain appt. is cancelled. we dont live in the old times where u have to be physically in the city. he sounds he is the busiest guy on planet n has no time. It is ur business thats where ur bread and butter comes in from the customers. So where this attitude coming from. so i said its fine let them come in n see how it is. Amanda the groomer came in 10 minutes early n called when i answer the phone sounded like she is talking to someone else n telling them 45 minutes or something. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL she will say hello to me n then i guess talk to the other party. i just stayed waited for her to talk to me she told me to come downstairs. I have a 11 1/2 years old cavalier king charles spaniel. So went downstairs she was pleasant to talk to. I explained her that i am not fussy just need a basic trim, bath nails trimmed. she looked at him n said he needs to cut very close so i said u dont have to remove everything n this breed has a undercoat also n she disagrees that n said he has only one coat and its standard for them to do the closest cut on the cocker spaniels. I explained that this breed shud not be cut too short as this coat helps them protect against the sun and insulates in winter not to feel too cold. Another thing is their tiny van is not air conditioned if it is they dont turn on to save energy. As friday 8-12-16 was 100 degrees in nyc i stood by van it looked so small n hot inside. there was no cool breeze coming from inside. My dog had to suffer for one hour in that cramped van in this high temps. I keep the temp in my apt. 60 degrees. My baby loves it. As when i went to get him a hour later the van door was wide open n amanda was sitting out if there is a a/c u keep it shud. it felt so hot those few minutes i stood there. I have seen other vans they are very large and luxurious. NOT this one. Still i left him with her hoping for a good outcome. She called me exactly an hour later to pick him. She completely shaved him bald not 1/2 inch hair left. he looked naked and very ugly(to me he is beautiful) his silkly hair all gone. i asked her how much it is. she said $75 and i paid her $80($5 tip). My dog is not himself after the cut he refuses to go for walk. he feels naked. i tried to put coat on him this morning to cover him as i am so ashamed if anyone sees him like this. i ordered this morning three t-shirts as he will have to wear everyday. ordered sunscreen as well so my baby doesnt get any sunburn. Amanda should go to grooming school n take classes!! Maybe she didnt want to work hard as trimming takes much longer n then bathe the dog n dry. So the fastest is to shave off quick. You can see in the before and after pics. Obviously i will never use these mobile groomers ever again. This is the price i paid for being lazy n not go to the groomers n use mobile grooming. Do not use this company! The first time I used them in 2009, they shaved my puppy (poodle mix). Her hair never grew back the same way. I foolishly called them again in 2010 because I was desperate to find a groomer. The groomer that arrived was one of the rudest people I have ever encountered. He parked two blocks away from my house and when I asked him if he could move closer to the house, he became argumentative. When I told him that my dog gets nervous while being groomed, he told me he didn't feel he wanted to have me as a customer and drove off. read more

seems to be the only mobile groomer in the area. i dont get the whole leave a message and well call you back thing, is he avoiding someone? i left a message and he called me back 2 minutes later after listening to my voicemail. Had three poodle mixes groomed, they came back looking like someone blazed through the process, I guess they dont use different sized blades, just attachments, so all the dogs had track marks on their bodies. The ears were all left completely untouched and the tops of their heads were shaved off. James even charged m $10 more for one of them and claimed he was "peeing and pooping everywhere", which I find pretty ridiculous since I had just taken all of them for a walk beforehand to prepare for the groom. The three of them were all done within an hour, they need to work on the quality of their work! Wont be using them again and definitely DONT recommend them! read more

My wife made an appointment two weeks in advance for our two dogs. This is not the first time we have used them. The day of my noon appointment came and no groomers arrived. At 12:30 I gave them a call to see what was going on and left a message. 1:30 came around and no phones call, so I called and left another message. 2:30 came and I left another message with no response. At 3:30 we called and left one more message. I couldn't believe someone with a business would be so rude as to not call and try to explain what was going on. We were just left hanging. At 5:00 my wife was so frustrated and left a long message telling the owner James just how she felt. Telling him he didn't know how to run a business and how not calling us was completely unacceptable. The next day, Sunday, we get a call at 10:00am from James blasting us for leaving the message saying he should learn how to run a business. He told us we weren't in his appointment book, which wasn't the first time that has happened. When I questioned him why we didn't get a call yesterday he told me he had a family emergency and never received our calls. I can understand having a family emergency but what I don't understand is why no one else in the company called us back. They did not cancel the day and this is not a one man operation. When I told him this he became very rude and started to scream at my wife and me. The month before he had the groomer come two hours early. He then told me we should be happy that he came early. What if I wasn't home? Would I have lost that appointment too? The bottom line is I will never use trim up the pup ever again. I don't need to spend my hard earned money with them and take all the nonsense. I will go elsewhere. James didn't care he was losing a paying customer. All he had to do was say he was sorry and reschedule the appointment instead screaming at us insisting he could not call us. He really did us a favor. So I just finished up with this service and I feel that I need to write a review. I called them up this morning at around 830-ish to make an appointment for today or next SaturdayI left a voicemail and they return my call within the hour the guy seemed okay enough over the phone and offered me an appointment for late this evening 6 o'clock which was fine with me. I was staying home all day anyways he ended up calling me back at around 230pm and told me that he was running early and that he would be able to come within 20 minutes. Which he did so instead of him seeing my dog at 6 o'clock he saw him at 3pm. He called me up when he got here he parked down the block from my house I walked over and it was a young Dominican guy I think probably in his mid to late 20s. He seemed ok but couldn't really get a good feel of him. So I made a quick decision and I left my dog in his care. I asked him how long would it take and he said 20 minutes. So I went back home and 15 to 20 minutes later he gave me a call and my dog was ready. Now this is the second time I've gone to a groomer and I don't know but I think 20 minutes was a bit to quick so that kind of struck me a bit odd or I may be wrong. So I got to the van picked up my dog and he seemed happy. Now the thing that bothered me was when I got a price form him in the morning they told me $55 and that covers the bath nails and cleaning of the ears. His nails were already cut and I don't think they did that much of cleaning his ears since they were already clean. And since the guy called me back less than 20 minutes I don't think he did $55 worth of work. But that's what he charged me I think he should've lowered the price down to $45 since he didn't have to clean his ears really and cut his nails. But other than that I think they did a pretty good job I see a couple other reviews here that look pretty bad but I didn't get any of that off of these guys. So I will probably call them again. So i literally made a yelp account just to write this review! I found that a lot of people on here had said bad things about this groomer and everything but I never listen to that stuff. I went ahead and literally just got my dogged groomed with Trim up the Pup and got him back not long ago and I am beyondddd happy! The guy was so nice, my Yorkie, Brownie, liked him (and usually Brownie doesn't want to go anywhere near groomers). His haircut is perfect and just how I asked it to be and the customer service was great! One thing I like alot too is that it's quick! I've left my dog at groomers before for hours upon hours only for him to come back looking like crap! This was like an hour and he came back looking just how I wanted and it was all right outside my door! I can't remember the guys name but whoever you are, THANK YOU!!!
