The best dog grooming place in our area- Forest Hills! I'm a very picky dog mom but it's because my 2 year old cavapoo puppy is a drama queen who hates grooming. Moreover, we had a couple of horrible grooming experiences that left him traumatized. When I contacted K9 to book an appointment I was told there was a wait because everything was booked out. I didn't mind waiting since I realized its because they are good. Melinda was in touch with me and let me know the soonest availability. She asked for my dog's medical records and I submitted all of that right away. She was very understanding and patient. From the first time contacting her I realized that she had a big heart and I was not wrong!! When I picked up my dog after the grooming he was happy and playful -whaaat?! Usually I am ready for him being upset and devastated, but not after K9! Also Melinda was such a sweetheart to be updating me on their progress during the grooming. First off, I would like to know why there are next to no groomers out there for cats. I called around and pretty much all of them only deal with dogs. I finally was able to find one who does. My mother took in a new stray kitten. Winter was coming and the weather was getting too cold, so she took in the kitten to get it off the street. We got it to the vet to find that the little girl was healthy, but infested with fleas. After applying flea medication, she had to be quarantined away from the other cat in the house. After quarantine, I was suppose to comb out all the fleas and bathe her. She's six weeks old. Tiny little thing. It was so nerve racking for me. I didn't know if I was hurting her or if she was just scared. I couldn't do it. Had to get a professional. Luckily, I found Beverly. She listened to my situation. Although she was pretty much booked, she was very accommodating to me and squeezed me in. She was so kind and gentle with the kitten. It was Lir's first grooming experience. We were both very nervous. Melinda and Beverly greeted us like old friends. Melinda gave me my basic Forms to fill out as she scooped Lir up and started bonding with him immediatey. I was able to sit and wait or watch at my leisure which made me feel good to say the least. They giggled and played with him. Melinda was awesome she let him get used to the brushing the blowing. She was extremely patient when doing his nails as he is a total drama queen ! They have excellent food options and rawhides. I've never seen the long white chews. It usually only comes in bully stick form. It seems like they only carry high end products, whether it's good treats, toys, beds. Bonus! I couldn't believe they carry Fromm dog food either! The men who work in the store are quiet spoken, but helpful when you ask them questions. They also have a mellow cat who just hangs out by the register. I'd rather shop with a small business anyway. When I first adopted my cat, I bought a bag of Science Diet food and he wouldn't eat much of it. I switched to other brands of food recommended by my vet but he didn't seem to like any of it. I came to K9 Caterers with the intention of buying multiple small bags of food for my cat, hoping to find one brand that he would eat. I asked the staff about the return policy, hoping that he would like the first or second bag I bought and I'd be able to return the others. Instead, he gave us about 10 samples of food that they carry at the store, including some of the store cat's food so I wouldn't have to spend a lot of money just to try out food. I am incredibly grateful for that and by putting out all the samples, I was able to find a food that my cat will eat. i can not find one negative thing to say about this place. i would rather support small businesses than a conglomerate like petco any day. this place has a larger and much better selection of dog and cat food for a cheaper price. the same litter, better toys, and much nicer and available service. there is a food donation box, a local bulletin board and kittens that are looking for their forever homes! i can not stress how much the bulletin board means to me because we lost a cat, brought a flyer to petco who basically threw it away bc it doesnt fit their aesthetic, where K9 Caterers was willing to post it and help. this place is who should be supported 1000%. read more

Glad to support a local business especially when they deserve it. K9 Caterers has about every brand we've researched we would recommend for our 2 cats. The store is much bigger than their old location on Cooper Ave. close to the Shops at Atlas Mall. They have a large parking area which makes it easier to lug 40 lbs. bags of cat litter. And most importantly, we find their staff to be both friendly and knowledgeable. We've also found their prices to be on par or cheaper than your everyday e-Tailers such as Amazon and Walmart for the items we purchase. The only thing that's preventing me from giving them 5 stars is that they don't seem to have a very good loyalty program in place. They do have some deals when you purchase certain items in large quantities, but the scope is rather limited. While a better loyalty program won't make us shop there any more frequently than we do now (which is all the time), it may give new customers more incentive to do so. read more

Terrible customer service. I first called the number on the Google listing and a guy picked up and was very gruff. Quickly told me to call a different number that he gave me and hung up before I was even finished saying goodbye. I really liked the grooming pictures they have on Yelp so I decided to move forward and ignore the rudeness of that call. I used the number I was given and a woman picked up. She had a much brighter "hello!" so I felt hopeful. Unfortunately the conversation quickly soured. I asked when the next grooming appointment might be and she said the last week of March. She then asked if my dog had been there before and I said no, she's a puppy and the conversation immediately changed. Maybe they hate puppies at this place. She told me before she could make an appointment that she would need proof of vaccination. I said ok. I then said it looks like next week is actually the last week of March and she clarified saying she meant the week of the 29th. Cool. Then she brings up the vaccinations again saying I can email them. I said ok AGAIN. My puppy has her vaccinations. That's fine. Then I ask if they have that Saturday, April 3rd available. She apologized and said all of their Saturdays are booked up until the 10th. I said hm, ok. Then as I was looking at my schedule for the week of the 29th, she brings up the vaccinations AGAIN and says before she can make an appointment, I would need to send her proof of vaccination which she then goes on to explain that means rabies, bordatella ... I interrupted frustrated at this point and said yes, I understand this. My puppy has her vaccinations. I'm just trying to see when you're available to figure out if I'd even like to move forward. I started to ask about the week days for the week of the 29th but at this point I was beyond frustrated that she has brought up these vaccinations 3 times, is now talking to me like I'm an idiot and clearly doesn't care to make an appointment. I hung up. I wouldn't want to bring my dog here anyway. They seem like a headache. read more

Took my 4 month old Shihpoo to get groomed for the very first time. It was a great experience for both her and me from the moment we walked in the door. The staff were courteous, friendly and extremely knowledgable. Most importantly they were great with my puppy. They took their time with her and allowed her to adjust to her new environment. I love their cage free concept and how they don't use cage dryers. Best of all they encourage you to stay and watch the grooming process which you can see both outside the store and in. From the moment I first spoke to with Amanda I felt comfortable. I had called several different groomers and I was very particular because I knew how I wanted my dog to be groomed. Lola is only 6 months old and it would take a very special groomer to work with her. Lola has many fears and she requires a groomer who is patient and understanding. After all she still a puppy. I cant thank Amanda enough, the end results were amazing. Lola was so happy and well groomed. My only regret is that I did not take a before photo. Hmmm I am in shock that the lady below said she was treated rudely when she called for cat food. I've been coming here for 3 years now. They have EVERYTHING. All types of dog & cat food (yes even the harder to find dog food brands), different toys, bones etc. See you can go to Petco and get all of this stuff too but why I give them 5 stars is for the customer service! If they see you have something heavy like a huge bag of dog food one of the guys will help you to your car with it. I bring my pitbull in there and they love him up and ALWAYS give him treats while we are there. I have never been treated badly. By far the best experience I've ever had at a grooming salon. After sending over proof of vaccinations, they called me to set up an appointment. They were able to fit me in within the next couple days which was wonderful! I brought both my Golden Retriever and my Chihuahua mix in for a bath, trim and a de-shedding treatment. Anyone who has a Golden Retriever knows that the shedding is non stop! However, after his grooming he is not shedding and his coat looks better then it ever has! I am constantly getting complements when we are walking on the street. My chi mix also looks fantastic and felt very comfortable at the salon. What also sets them apart from others is that there are no cages, it is a wide open space, and they set your dog up for an actual appointment where they are receiving one on one attention. Usually they will tell you to pick your dog up within 1-2 hours depending on how much work your dog requires so they are not waiting there all day long! I highly recommend the groomers at K9 Caterers! They are professional, courteous and treat your dogs as if they are family! Ive gone to them for everything from hamster supplies to dog supplies. The staff is really helpful, knowledgeable and quite honest about the products they sell.
